NO MORE HEROES Discussion - FS/FT Pure White Giant Glastonbury LE Pink Cartridge
I still wonder why they decided to totally cut out the splitting of the bodies with the blood that was in the previous demos of the game. Instead they go for a particle dust effect with coins. Not that it matters buch, but a lot has changed since they announced it was going to be "more violent than Manhunt".

I could care less but it's a bit of a changeup.
From what I can recall, the particle/pixel dust stuff is only for the Japanese version. The US version retains the blood and gore that Suda originally promised.

Games like Killer 7 and GTA got a Cero Z rating in Japan which is the equivilent to an AO here. I think a lot of stores won't even display Z rated games in Japan so obviously it causes a problem with sales.

Really. Japan.
The place where they hold sex gameshows and have scat w/ vomit porn. Yet they have a problem selling violent games? That's strange.

Speaking of sex, why is this thread saying "in game porno confirmed" now.

It is strange, but it is true. Apparently Resident Evil 4 had all of the decapitation scenes removed and other things censored in the Japanese version.

The in game porno refers to Playsylvia, Suda's take off on Playboy. Check out the link above to see it.

Ahh ok. I was looking a that.
I dunno if I would call that "porn" though.

Violence is taken a lot more seriously in other countries. Here we're all desensitized and would much rather protect the kids from nipples instead of war. Honestly for a sex craving country we should be more open to things.
I dunno... Half the time I'm hyped as hell for the game, the other half I'm worried it's gonna be all style and no gameplay, like Killer 7.
kinda weird to say since the gameplay actually shows how the game is played with icons and everything...

watch the demo videos and hopefully you'll see what I mean:

No More Heroes info
- Nintendo Power has already played through the game, and found it very enjoyable
- Menu systems have a very old school flair (Atari-like)
- Words of encouragement before a boss battle (spoken by Travis) “You are the man! Eye of the tiger! Enter the red zone! Now, off to the garden of madness”
- Travis’s battle cry: “Strawberry on the Shortcake!”
- Game flow: Do jobs and assassinations to gain money. Use money to enter ranked matches (boss fights). Deposit money and Sylvia will call concerning bosses. Repeat
- Defeat bosses for health boost and more story
- Upgrade katana, watch wrestling to learn new moves, buy clothes, and more
- not much action outside
- “Dark Mode” is related to the tiger we’ve seen on screen
- Travis has a cat at his apartment which you can play with, but it doesn’t seem to do anything for you
- Wiimote speaker used for when Travis gets a phone call
I'm going to have to buy this game just for the sections I bolded. Strawberry on the Shortcake!
NP: “Crazy question time: how would No More Heroes’ Travis Touchdown react if he went into a restaurant for a burger, but they were all out?!”

Suda: “That’s a funny question. Travis would say:
“Ha! For Real? fuck! Wait a minute. What’s going on? Get a manager, Ben! I need to talk to the fucker. He is a loser and just a fucker. I can’t believe that burgers are all out in an American diner. I haven’t heard about that. What the fuck! Where is Ben? Ha…. Ben is not here for a week because he is training at headquarters? fuck! fuck! fuck! What the fuck! What? You’re asking me for my order? I’m here to get a burger. You are a fucking dork! You’re asking me for my order? Well…can I have a cherry pie?”
Suda is almost as cool as Sakurai.

Also, I don't get the "Strawberry on the Shortcake" thing. Googling showed me some Japanese movie. Ok.

I played it back at Games Festa Japan in Osaka earlier this month.

It was quite fun, and apparently I was good at it b/c the guy manning the booth kept saying "Whaow! Yoo verry good prayer!" when I would clear a room before he could explain the controls to me.

IIRC, sword attacks are performed by pressing the A button and then slashing the Wiimote in a specified direction to finish off enemies.

Also, the phone calls via the Wiimote sounded pretty good, unlike the scratchy sound effects in older Wii games.

Right before launch, we should all write Joe Lieberman and Hillary Clinton and explain to them how violent and sexual and horrible and evil this game is.

EPIC SALES
Famitsu scores : 9 8 8 9
This is a better score than Zack & Wiki. It'll probably be a 8.5 or so game.

some nice wholesome advertising
No it isn't. It looks photoshopped.
you are absolutely right, you know why? because they made the entire ad in photoshop for publishing.

Just watched IGN's new videos... Looks like tons of fun, but I'm praying they let us choose Japanese voice-acting, 'cause that's some really, REALLY bad acting/writing. Seriously, does the voice director actually listen to this stuff? How do they not realize how crappy it sounds? I can understand the Japanese devs not realizing it since voices in different languages are usually less annoying and they can't tell how bad the writing is, but jeez.

I wonder what I'd have to do to get hired as a voice director. If the quality of game and anime dubs is any indication, it seems like a really easy job.

Apparently Killer 7 also had horrendous voice acting, hence the garbled voices. I don't think they could really do that here as it wouldn't fit the context of the game.

Bad dubbing doesn't bother me too much, it makes it funnier.

I like the voices. Like Killer 7 it fits the style. Castlevania: SoTN wouldn't be the same without "What is a man?..."

If the videos you were watching had no blood, that was the Japanese version. But blood is the only difference between the versions, generally speaking.
Well, you're wrong, but arguing won't get us anywhere, so we can agree to disagree.

But you're so, so wrong.
Heh, that's fine with me. Though I'd take the PS1 SotN voices over the PSP retranslation any day of the week.

Does this game even have Japanese voices? Eveything I've seen so far including the Japanese trailer is in English.

EDIT: Thanks botticus
