FAQ's:

What if the price isn't accurate in store? Ask them to scan the title anyway and/or check the master game sales list online as my prices ARE accurate.

What if the in store game has no for sale sticker? Sorry. Chances are it isn't for sale because we usually leave a few for rent, but it doesn't hurt to ask an employee just in case.

Why doesn't the online price reflect your price? Although Family Video and FamilyVideo.com are the same thing and prices *usually* should match, there are times when they do not or might be sold out. Sorry.

Do games come with manuals/boxes? All games should come with the original artwork/case, but sometimes rental customers don't return manuals, so it's about 50/50.

What if I buy a game that doesn't work? All games are guaranteed to be in working condition. We clean all games before selling them. You can even replace games in the store that were purchased online! People have told me that the e-commerce site is also very helpful with returns/replacements.

What if my store is not offering the specials listed, is this YMMV? No, this is not YMMV. Unless the store is down to its last few copies of a game, it should be available for sale. If they refuse to sell it to you for the price listed and/or you have recurring problems with a store, please check out this link to help both you and our company to improve.
https://www.familyvideo.com/contact.php#q17

What do the numbers next to the titles mean? The numbers represent how many copies of an item a B&M store will protect for rental only. For example, if you see 4 copies on the shelf for rent and my listing has a (3) beside it, 1 should be available for sale. Listings with a (5) means that there will be at least 5 kept for rent, but if the title is renting well the remaining copies may or may not be for sale. At this point, please ask a staff member for assistance.

The manager at Family Video refuses to sell games that aren't stickered for sale. I understand why he won't sell it but man does it suck! They have so many good hard to find games. And I swear, the Skyward Sword game has been rented out for over a month!

This just brought back a memory I haven't thought of in many years.

Calling Blockbuster every 30 minutes to see if someone returned Wave Race 64 and running down to try and rent it.

I had something similar YEARS ago as well. One Family Video had the original print of Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout. I wanted it really badly, but they wouldn't sell it, and it was always rented out. Eventually, it just wasn't on the shelf anymore. Not sure if someone threw money at it or just refused to return the game or what, but I never got to play that game, though I once rented the wretched Ultimate Battle 22.

A local rental store back when I was younger had the U.S. version of Final Bout and I had rented it a few times, but eventually (I also tried to buy it from them) someone rented it and never returned it and the case vanished from the shelf. I eventually bought an import copy of the game.

I stopped by my local Family Video the other day though and took a picture of a download code for the Final Fantasy XV demo and gave it to my friend. He was able to redeem the code and download the demo, I bought Type-0, but figured I would let you guys know in case you want the demo for free. Family Video typically leaves the inserts in and eventually those codes expire, so might as well use them so they don't go to waste. Been hoping for more next-gen games to go on sale there too, but I only saw Thief and Transformers for XBone and PS4 yesterday and never have seen any Wii U games go on sale at the Family Videos around me.

If people weren't clever enough to figure this out on their own, then they didn't need someone spouting it off online for everyone to see. Not only does it create the potential for someone to be an asshole and take every code for every game out or every box, but it also draws FV's attention to the matter.

Some of the stores I've visited do not leave inserts in the case specifically for this reason, and one manager has an eBay account where he sells the codes. I tried something similar, but it's too much effort for relatively little profit-- but that doesn't mean it's not nice to find a DLC code for a used game or pre-order pack-in when you need it from time to time. I just hope it doesn't dry up completely.

Sorry for the late update, guys! The drops just aren't happening quite as often anymore :(

Sorry I didn't think it was a huge deal, are you a regional or district manager for Family Video or something?

All joking aside, your comment is ridiculous. If the code is in the box and not being used me giving my friend a code to download a demo of a game isn't a big deal. Some of these codes expire as well, it's not like I went to Family Video with the sole purpose to obtain a download code for Final Fantasy XV, I actually bought Type-0 myself. I also highly doubt anyone who works for Family Video really honestly cares, they aren't renting codes and otherwise would probably throw them away or an employee would keep it. Selling the codes online for the manager and whatever you were doing that was "similar" is a douchebag thing to do, it's free give it back to the gaming community, don't be a douche re-seller, that's almost as bad as the Amiibo scalpers. I like to let others know of any deals or freebies obtained, maybe someone else was able to check out the excellent FFXV demo who maybe can't afford to buy Type-0 to obtain it.

Back on topic, Family Video is really lacking on the video game deals lately. I really wish they would start putting 3DS games on sale, my stores have a ton of great games that rarely get rented out. I've tried to purchase several of the games, but no luck.

Both of y'all, chill. You are both correct. Giving back to the gaming community is a great thing to do. Since I'm pretty much the caretaker for the video game rental department at my store, I've seen some shady things happen. For example, some people came in and literally took the sleeves of certain Wii U titles for the Club Nintendo points. That is some shady business and thus, my store no longer keeps codes in the case. Do what you gotta do, but please keep them to yourself. Thanks :)

I wouldn't condone stealing in this thread if I were you.

I've heard of some people saying that they've asked whoever is working at FV if they could take the inserts from games (specifically for CN coins) which is way more upstanding then snapping a picture of a code or outright just pocketing the insert.

Or, look at it this way.  What if an FV employee catches you pocketing the insert or snapping a picture of the code?  If they are in a good mood, nothing may happen.  If they aren't in a good mood, or care in the slightest, can they kick/ban you or call the cops?  You bet.

Boom, as soon as I said that they were lacking, Family Video comes through!

I've noticed in the past month or so that FV has been getting fewer Bluray copies of movies in than before.  Is there a reason for this?

I didn't realize there were CAGs close to Lower Burrell, PA :) It's my area...

I have beein the FV store there once or twice, and never have luck.

Thanks to all for the recent posts of markdowns seen.  Promising drops there.  Any official updates to share?  It's been a few weeks since the last.

I had been eyeballing a copy of Metroid Prime Trilogy for months.  After asking repeatedly and being turned down, I would just go in to see if it was tagged.  This week it was gone.  :wall:   No other games had been marked down either.

I've gone through the same but with skyward sword. Some guy on Craigslist sold me twilight princess and the 25th anniversary edition of skyward sword for $20!

I went to one out of town and they had a bunch of ds games on sale, picked these up along with a 360 game.

Pokémon White - $10
Pokémon Black - $10
Dragonball Z Attack of the Saiyans - $10
Kingdom Hearts Re:coded - $10
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days - $10
WWE All Stars (360) - $10

Dragonball Z still had the manual but the rest still had nice cases

In my most recent visit I saw a few Xbox One titles with prices on them.

Evolve: $30

Battlefield Hardline: $30

Watchdogs: $13

Amazing Spiderman 2: $13

Thief: $13

Transformers Rise of the Dark Spark: $13

This is all I can remember. I'm regretting not grabbing Spiderman 2. I went back for it a few days later and it was gone.

Just to be a petulant whiner, this is a reminder from an entitled CAG who wants his deals.

But really, if you're able to get prices, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Went to another Family Video out of town and found these for $5.99 each

Rock Band 3 (360)

Tiger Woods PGA 12 Masters (Wii)

Nascar Inside Line (PS3)

Nascar Unleashed (PS3)

Nothing too amazing :(

Is MLB 2K13 on the 360 R1G1? It's got a $17.00 base TIV at GameStop, since it's the last game in the series.

Also, those new prices are pretty lame. Oh, well, might still see if there's anything worth picking up for the One sometime this week. I'd hoped for some $20 Forza Horizon 2 or Xenoverse or Sunset Overdrive. And sorry for the questions, still waiting to get my car fixed, so I can't willy nilly drive out and check myself right now.

I'm pretty sure MLB 2K13 and NCAA Football 14 are not R1G1 yet :/

And I know right haha? As long as they rent, those games probably won't go down anytime soon, but patience is a virtue!

To anyone considering trading in MLB 2K13 on 360, be aware it trades in for $24 at Amazon and sells for $55+. Not really worth the ease of taking it to GS.
