Official Gears of War 2 Discussion Thread

I remember why I probably got banned. I called them out on their hypocrisy and running their mouths.
While not verbatim, they keep saying the game is easy to fix and tweak..so I asked what were they waiting for?
This morning I was banned. :D

So I just managed to pick this up about 30 minutes ago after completing 6-2

Yeah...actually died a few times on 6-3 because my damn partner left without saying anything, leaving me without rockets. Anyway...for those doing Flashback Horde with me tomorrow, either add me on your Friends' List or put me on a Gears 2 list if there is one so I can quickly invite you tomorrow at 8pm eastern.

Insane the entire game I'm afraid. You can check your Campaign status throughout each Chapter which is a blessing. Another blessing is that if you play online with another person and they're on a lower difficulty level, it'll still count towards it.

Just a reminder that I'm hosting Flashback Horde tonight. So if you're not on my Friends List and want to play, send me a FR. I'll be starting at 8 eastern. The plan is waves 1-10 on each of the 5 Flashback maps.

Sent FR if you need someone.
That would explain why I'm now getting much better scores than I use to. I almost never finish anyone off because I hate the coin-toss close range firefights. But I do down people a ton.
That sounds nice. That was always part of my problem in the first game , I could down opponents without too much trouble , but I could never finish them off because either their teamates rescued them or killed me.

I just got 0 points in a submission game. Has this ever happened to anyone?
If the servers detect severe lagging on the part one player - that player is punished with a zero score under the assumption that they are using a lag switch. This is not to say you were cheating - everyone lags on occasion.

I purchased the Snowblind Map pack and would actually like to play them in Horde. How about other people in the same situation post their Gamertag and we can add each other. Hopefully if we get enough names there will always be 3 or 4 people on to invite into a Snowblind Horde run.

XBL: Zyzomys

I've still got both Flashback & Snowblind Horde achievements to bang out so I'll add you Zyzo. It seems I missed last nights run. ;(

Happened to me the other day. My connection was really lagging, and for some reason it gave me host. I had a great connection but everyone else's sucked. I had like 50 kills and over 4000 points.

Stupid ass netcode.

We didn't get through all the maps, though. We got through Tyro Station, Subway and Canals. So we still need to do Mansion and the other one (the name escapes me at the moment). I tried to do Mansion by myself and got up to Wave 8, before 2 locust magically spawned right next to me upstairs :(

Lag switch? I always wondered if there were users out there who forced lag somehow...there are times that we are kicking ass, and all of a sudden the game lags like crazy and the opposing team starts winning.

I'd be down for Snowblind horde...though I'm in PST and I only play after 10:30/11pm :/

* The player’s gamerscore will be reset to zero.
* The player will be unable to earn or recover gamerscore from any previous games—all games, not just Gears 2.
* The account involved will be branded on Xbox LIVE as belonging to a cheater. This information will be reflected in the gamer profile, both on Xbox.com and in the Xbox Dashboard on the console.

Sweet.

I was thinking of getting the Combustible or Snowblind map pack. But here is my situation. I really only play horde online. I was told that id need both packs in order for me to use them online in horde, is this true? Which one is better, and do any of these new maps make single player horde any easier?

You'll definitely have to buy the packs in order to play Horde on them, but as for which of the two are more suited for it I haven't the slightest idea. IMHO the Combustible pack was more or less a total waste of money for me. Gold Rush is the only map I found myself enjoying and even then barely on a mediocre level. SB maps on the other hand have paid for themselves at least twice over during the few weeks I've owned them.

Well if i have to buy both to play online horde then forget it. I dont want to pay 20 bucks for 7 maps. Even though the horde maps im playing on now are getting repetitive.

Microsoft and Epic Games deliver seven new multiplayer maps to Gears of Wars 2 in July's retail release of the Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection, finally answering the question "what is Dark Corners?"

Back in March, rumors flew about a new batch of downloadable content for Gears of Wars 2 called Dark Corners, but Epic denied that such DLC existed. Turns out that they were absolutely correct. Dark Corners is not DLC. It's a new map pack being included in the Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection, available exclusively at retail worldwide on July 28th. The collection includes all of the Gears 2 DLC to date, along with Dark Fronts, a collection of seven new multiplayer maps which you can find detailed below.

In order to make the pack worthwhile to those who've already downloaded the majority of the Gears 2 DLC, the package also contains an introduction from Cliff Bleszinski for "Road to Ruin", a collectible poster, a strategy guide, and a custom Xbox Live theme.

And the price? $19.99, £14.99, or €19.99, depending on who you're paying for the privilege of taking the package home. A great value for those who've yet to download map one for the game, though things get a bit sketchy the more you've already purchased. Extras aside, is $20 too much for seven new maps? Perhaps the map descriptions will help you decide.

The seven new multiplayer maps in the "Gears of War 2: Dark Corners" Game Add-on are:

* Allfathers Garden: Honor the sacred grounds of the Coalition founders in this explosive map, where powerful weapons catalyze fast and furious action at this COG landmark.
* Memorial: Set near the Eternal Flame, which pays tribute to the fallen soldiers on the battlefield, a hard-fought battle ensues at the Tomb of Unknowns. Putting their flank formation and evasive skills to the test, players will fight to control the Boomshot.
* Sanctuary: Once a peaceful ground for reflection and remembrance, all that remains of the Sanctuary is the chill of death. Feast your eyes on the arsenal of weapons available as you make your way through the tight paths and blind corners of the Locust-damaged temple corridors.
* War Machine: In the abandoned train station that once served as a hub for travel, players will need to master the Longshot, Mulcher and Boomshot weapons to advance the fight while evading fire from the platforms above.
* Highway: Take the fight deep into the Locust Hollow in the complex passages of this underground highway system brimming with enemy vermin. Stick together, separate the enemy and have an exit strategy ready or it'll be a one-way trip.
* Way Station: Sitting in limbo between death and "processing" are Locust way stations filled with fallen COG soldiers. Tread lightly and practice patience as it's better to sacrifice firepower for stealth while navigating this minefield of hidden grenades.
* Nowhere: Set in the middle of what was once a destination for weary desert travellers, the land is now barren and devoid of life. Pick off your enemies with the Longshot sniper rifle and make your way to the stairwell with a well-fortified team during this intense firefight.

Yeah....me too.

It sucks, but I'm still going to have to get it.

Maybe it will come with codes for the other two that I can sell. Hopefully it's not one huge package.

So this is where the Locust costumes come into play.

Included in the “Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection” is the “Gears of War 2: Dark Corners” Game Add-on, which features seven new multiplayer maps and a deleted campaign chapter titled “Road to Ruin.” In “Road to Ruin,” Marcus and Dom return to the Locust Hollow in a scene that can be played two ways, guns blazing or in all-new stealth mode.

So...$30 (or $35 if they include the Flashback Maps) worth of maps for $20? I don't think that's a good idea.

EDIT: Of course, this is assuming they charge $10 for this map pack on the marketplace.

They're charging $19.99 for Dark Corners on XBLM. So, it's $45 (it does include the flashback) for $20.

* Memorial: Set near the Eternal Flame, which pays tribute to the fallen soldiers on the battlefield, a hard-fought battle ensues at the Tomb of Unknowns. Putting their flank formation and evasive skills to the test, players will fight to control the Boomshot.
Ugh... It's River all over again. Don't they know how much ridiculously retarded bullshit happens when you DON'T recycle Boom on ANY map? ...Christ. What's worse is that I could have waited a couple more months to buy everything for $20 and I surely would have in a heart beat.

As much as I love Gears both those maps and the chapter had better be amazing before I even consider buying this crap. You know what I'd almost pay $20 bucks for? A remake of the damn courtyard of the Fenix Mansion map from Gears 1 and the costumes of the Royal Locust guards in the castle. Throw a gold Lancer code in and I'm yours.

Dead ass though... instead of milking us for more dough how about they finally address shotgun accuracy, saw vacuum and lag. How about separate playlists for at least ONE of the map packs? I mean really... there's only so many Annex matches I can drag my lifeless carcass through before I start to wonder why I can't play Wingman on ANY of them at my leisure. Only then would Dark Corners become a day one purchase for me... jackasses.

...

Oh who am I kidding?

If even 3 - 5 of my closest Gearhounds on my FL buy this I'll follow suit soon enough. Damn you Clive. ;'(

EDIT - If and when I do decide to buy DC if it comes with codes for each map pack I would gladly trade/give them away in a heart beat. I certainly hope we're allowed to do that come release day.

Hmm...:whistle2:k

Might be worth it
Holy Shit.... just when i was thinking of buying 1 of the map packs, this is introduced. Very nice i am going to get this for sure. 14 maps, free premium theme, extra story mission. Holy crap! Im excited.
How do you know that's the theme? I think that's one of the ones that can currently be found on XBLM.
good thing i havent bought any maps
Me either so I'm glad too! I will be buying this for $20. Not a penny more!

I just want the extra story mission. I doubt they would ever release it aside from this. Although all the stuff you get for 20 is a good deal. I feel bad for the people that bought those map packs already.

I’m so glad I held out on buying the Snowblind map pack. I still have my $15.00 gift card from Toys R Us from when I initially bought Gears of War 2. $5.00 sounds like a great deal to me.

I have a personal vendetta against DLC but this I find worth it. 10$ for 3 was kind of whacky but 20$ for 14, a theme and some shwag? I'll probably buy it.

Wait a minute. So Dark Corners is $20. The All Fronts Collection, which includes Dark Corners, is also $20. #-o:?:

I also wonder what the length of the campaign level is. That's what I'm most interested in.

Yeah it looks like its just a code when you buy the retail. But i assume its like the CE card where you have different codes for each map packs, a code for the campaign, a code for the theme. I dont think its an all-in-one code to download everything.

Yeah, I had the same reaction.
