Official Gears of War 2 Discussion Thread
Yeah it looks like its just a code when you buy the retail. But i assume its like the CE card where you have different codes for each map packs, a code for the campaign, a code for the theme. I dont think its an all-in-one code to download everything.
I hope the codes are separate, as I already have the other map packs and it would be nice to be able to sell the codes I don't need. :)
are these for sure codes, or could this be a disk
Come on Amazon, give us a 3 month & this for $20 just like the Lost & the Damned!

Wow, hard to believe they aren't going to charge more for this. I'll buy it whenever it comes out even though I haven't played Gears too much. So this will include 7 brand new maps from Dark Corners, the 3 from Combustible (that I already have for free thanks to shipwreck's method of downloading and my friend picking up the cost), the 4 from Snowblind, and the 5 from the flashback map pack (which I do already have). This does include the new campaign chapter also, right? Good deal, and all of the extras are just a nice bonus.

oh shit this is a great deal, especially for those that haven't bought either of the map packs. I got snowblind a few weeks ago but will still get this. really hope there's separate codes
I'm pretty sure the Gold Weapons aren't in this package.
He's selling it to pay for the new DLC.

I bought the Combustible pack but only played 2 matches, both on the same map. I guess I'll not be buying the Snowblind pack. I'll just wait for this.

Not really, by the time this releases, you will have had all the maps for a few months. Yeah, it sucks you will ultimately pay more than those who haven't bought any map packs, but the plus side is, you've been playing them longer. You can still buy the new content of course. But, that's the way buisness goes sometimes.
Look at Apple. People paid what, 400 for a new touch, only to have it be better and cheaper months down the road? Shit happens. :/

Yeah, seems strange that Epic would fuck over early adopters but I'm all for it since I've barely touched gears in a while (I mean, it was a glitchy pos at launch) so hopefully this will get me back in. Too many online shooters.
This is a total slap in the face to people who have already laid down the cash for the map packs.
It was also a slap in the face to reduce the price of Small Arms, reduce the price and make free 2 of the Halo map packs etc.

The fact is things often go on sale, get cheaper or become free. You're paying for the extra time you own it.

Though I do agree that the new map pack ought to have been 15 or 10 dollars on the XBLM for previous owners.

The difference here is that Gears 2 came out six months ago, and theres already three map packs.

It's not that big of a deal, but still. The time span between the main game releasing and then a map collection (i.e. Halo 2) is getting smaller, so you're paying more for less. This is an expensive generation of consoles.
He's selling it to pay for the new DLC.
I read it as him thinking the gold weapons were in the new pack. Whatever, your reason is much better.

The maps went free in Gears 1 and no one complained. Early adoptors always get the shaft.

Just think of it as Epic offering the maps free along with the new content. You can also hope that there's more rotation than the five or six maps that used to get regular play. Maybe, we'll get to play Mansion for more than just Horde.

I wonder if this is worth it if I don't play GOW2 too much. I have the flashback map pack from buying the game new when it came out. Though I haven't played it much since then either.

Well, I'll be all over this. I did buy the Snowblind map pack, so like most of the other people here I hope for separate codes, but if it doesn't happen, oh well since I'm not going to pay for this anyway. ;)

Lovely. My friend just informed me that they've finally added the rest of the map packs to Wingman so I'm trying it out right now. HEART.
This is a piss-poor press release. Nobody knows what the hell is going on.
What?
The maps went free in Gears 1 and no one complained. Early adoptors always get the shaft.
This is different though, MS/Epic didn't say from the start that this was going to happen like they did with the Gears 1 map pack.
What is Dark Corners? IS that another name for all the mappacks?
Dark Corners is the name of the new Map Pack, which has 7 maps.
This is different though, MS/Epic didn't say from the start that this was going to happen like they did with the Gears 1 map pack.
But you still got to play the map packs this whole time. Now, people that buy this addition will get them for free as a bonus. Either way, early adoptors are out of their points.
What?

Wait a minute. So Dark Corners is $20. The All Fronts Collection, which includes Dark Corners, is also $20. #-o:?:
.

Correct.

Dark Corners is the 7 new maps and the campaign mission, available on the marketplace to download.

All fronts includes Dark Corners, as well as all previous DLC, along with a poster and a theme.

Why both cost $20 I don't know.

I experienced a weird bug that i haven't ever heard of or seen before today during an submission match. The score was tied 1 to 1 and everyone was fighting to get to chaps (aka franklin in some matches) and I see one of my teammates run into him and he flys up into the sky and stayed there for the whole match. Everyone ended up quitting because he wouldn't come down. WTF?

Yeah, you can get that glitch or the one where Chaps just won't go down no matter how many bullets you put into him.

Well, for a long time Gears 2 was really, really buggy. And the perception is that it's still buggy and a lot of people have moved on because of it.

Shame. I play this more than any other in my library now and wouldn't mind a few relaxing CAGs to balance out my loudmouth friends.

I missed buying this for $10 off Microsoft Expert Zone and I don't wanna pay full retail. I guess I'll have to wait till' it goes back up. Can't wait to play the multiplayer if it's anything like the original.

It's like the first one but way more gimmicky. Damn smoke grenades are the worst idea ever.
Double XP weekend starts Friday at 5pm EDT.
That's the stupidest idea I've ever heard. The purpose of the rank system in Gears is to balance teams. If you throw out XP willy nilly it ruins that :bomb:

Yep. Well... the new system currently doesn't because they're still using the old TrueSkill ranking system for matchmaking. Somewhat ridiculous and rarely ever did it job right to begin with but eh... whatever.

Ive been playing MP online a lot lately. Sometimes its annoying, im not the best, but i love gears. So i deal with it. What rank do you have to get to have the star with wings?

I'm not that great either, but I love the game. I keep getting better. One guy I was playing with had the star/wings. I think he used that glitch he wasn't as good as me. I'm only at 9. I play it off, and on I don't play it straight. Last night was the first time I've played it within a month or so.

What level are you at now, and how many hours do you plan on putting in?

I plan on putting in around 4-6 hours, so hopefully I'll get to around level 35.
Rank doesn't balance teams. They got rid of that shit.

Now you have levels, 1-100.
Glad to hear it, I've been out of the Gears loop for a while. I hope they fixed how awful the old system was based on team wins instead of personal things like K/Dr's and such

Yes. The new level system is based on XP, so you can't go down in rank. Just based on how many points you score in a round. You do lost 1,500 XP for quitting matches early though.

Im at level 26. I just started playing it recently. Like maybe a week or a little more, but not more than 2 weeks. I started from 1 too.

Im not sure what game type you can earn the most XP in, but i seem to get the most playing Annex. I can get 2000-3000 points if im lucky. Otherwise if i play Submission or Guardian i usually get around 600-1200 maybe.

I still have yet to get the horde achievements. I think i need levels 8, 9, 10 on subway to get one achievement. My highest on horde is 36. But i only have played with random online players.

I hate to leave matches early but I do it often...when the lag starts affecting my game, I just have to call it quits...it's too frustrating to stay on and watch the crazyness while being helpless.
