Official Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver thread of 10 year nostalgia rush
Woot, my copy just shipped out. Does anyone know about long how the cheapest shipping option takes? Also, I heard there is a semi-English patch for the game, is that true?
Yeah, my copy shipped out at 4:18 AM on September 11th. From my experience last year when I bought Pokemon Platinum from Play-Asia & chose the cheapest shipping option, it took about 4-5 days.

And yes, there may be a semi-english patch for the game, but the only way to use it would be to play the game through means which we cannot discuss here on CAG.

Bleh, really? People really can't wait can they?

When I saw this I went outside and jacked off while shooting my guns in the air. Very nice. I just wish they were on GBA instead of DS, I like the 2D graphics better.

Can't wait to get it, play the absolute shit out of it for about 30 hrs (but never beat it) then never pick it up again. THEN I can't wait to get whatever they call the Silver remake and do the same thing, but probably play even less of it.

I've done this with every Pokemon title except Red, of which I put in probably 200+ hrs.

That Game Boy Player sounds like a nice feature. Too bad I don't remember what the old music sounds like.

Superior Silver for me.

Wow, I had no idea so many of the old legendary Pokemon will be in the game, as well as the legendaries from Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. :hot:

I'll probably go with HeartGold for my version of choice. Can't wait to get Platinum in the next week or so and get back into the Pokemon craze. :D

Actually, I totally forgot Lugia is exclusive to SoulSilver. That being the case, I'd definitely take Lugia over Ho-oh, so I'm gonna have to look into the other exclusives for each version.
Heh heh, I just want Ho-oh. I'm assuming he's in this?
Both Ho-Oh and Lugia are obtainable in HG/SS. The main difference is that depending on which version you choose, you'll get to catch that one first, at Level 40 (which means you get their exclusive move). The other one will be at 70, I believe, which means they're too high a level for their exclusive move, but a Move Tutor should be able to remedy that.
I so want one of those too.
Growlithe is exclusive to HeartGold, so you'd be set, assuming you catch it. ;)

And thanks for the reminder on Ho-oh and Lugia being in both. Guess that puts me back to HeartGold for now, as I too want Growlithe and don't want to rely on a trade for one. ;)

It's always been that way in Silver and Gold for GBC. Aeroblast and Sacred ash are the moves Beef was talking about.

Serebii has both of those moves learned at level 85 for each of the Pokemon, so you should be able to learn them no matter what version, unless I am missing something.

As for the pokemon's level, Serebii lists them at 45 or 70, depending on which version you have.

Actually, they changed it up for HG/SS. They Learn Sacred Fire/Aeroblast at 43. I'm not sure if they still learn it at level 85 or not (like in D/P/Plat), but "hooray" if they do.

Can't wait for Silver. This generation was definitely the best, IMO. You had 2 regions to explore, a lot of legendaries (all of which were good), introduced the new types, and you had Red to fight so there was a real challenge once you finished everything else.

I dunno. The only legendaries I liked in Gold/Silver were Lugia and Suicune, to a lesser extent.

You are going to be able to get most of the other legendaries from the other games though. The Red/Blue birds, Kyogre/Groudon/maybe Rayquaza (need to look it up), and of course, the Wi-Fi events for Mew and Celebi.

The Celebi event includes backstory for Giovanni, including why he doesn't show up to answer New Team Rocket's call.
It involves you traveling back in time to fight him. Awesome!

You can get Kyogre/Groudon/Rayquaza in HG/SS. I looked it up on Serebii. As for the moves, you are correct. I didn't look down to the HG/SS moveset list on Serebii, as it does show them as being level 43 learned.

Also, boo to that spoiler showing full text in quotes heh.

I liked the beasts in GSC (even though I never caught them in Silver :() and you could get one of them at level 40 which was really good since you could control what it learned.

You get Groudon in Silver, Kyogre in Gold, and Rayquaza appears when you have both on one cart.

I believe you can also get Dialga, Palkia, or Giratina at level 1 somehow.

Ok, so it's been a month since I last posted, so I suppose I'll give an update.

Yes, I got my copy of Soul Silver, about two weeks ago. I'm sitting at about 32 hours in (this is purely free time that I've had that hasn't been studying for my 8 exams in the last 5 weeks I've had, work, or spending time with the GF) and all I've done is complete the main story.

I've acquired all 16 badges and have a pretty decent team, but unfortunately, I need to grind quite a bit since after you beat Garry Oak at Giovanni's old gym, the Elite 4 all raise their levels, with the lowest being 58 from the first guy. The game has completely taken me back to when I first played silver in Fall of 1999; easily still the best Pokemon generation out there.

The only legendary I've caught so far is Lugia. I plan on tackling some of the other this week (namely Mewtwo & the Legendary Dogs). The Pokewalker (Pedometer that's included with the game) is an interesting concept and I've been messing around with it quite a bit. As you walk, it counts your steps & then also gives you Watts. These Watts can be used to pick up items & to encounter Pokemon on the Pedometer. The special Wi-Fi PokeWalker course that is available in Japan right now is Yellow Forrest, which only contains Pikachu. The catch is, that some of the Pikachu in the forrest know fly or surf, but these are incredibly hard to come by, I've caught almost a box full of Pikachu and haven't encountered one.

You can store up to 6 Pokemon on the Pedometer, and they get 1 experience point for every step you take. The only catch is that they can only level up once per day. The step counter resets at 12 Midnight every night, and the Watts stay on the Pedometer until you sync it with your game, to which the Watts get transported to the cartridge and added up. When you hit certain milestones with the amount of Watts you've saved, it unlocks new PokeWalker courses for you to travel to.

That's been about it so far, I'm just now getting to the metagame since I've completed all the gyms and whatnot. If anyone has any questions about the game/post game stuff, post in this thread and I'll try to answer to the best of my ability.

You need a special movie promo Arceus, and you can have it "create" one of them.

I will be getting maybe Soul Silver as im more of a Ninetales fan.
As long as they have Houndoom im cool.
i loved gold/silver bc it brought me my favorite pokemon Espeon

Isn't the joke of Yellow Forest is that there's a Pikachu that knows Fly, Surf, and Volt Tackle at the same time?

Oh, and Giovanni is Silver's father. Biggest plot point ever and Game Freak fails to flesh it out. OH SHIT YOU GET TO FIGHT HIM oh his team is just in the low 40s.

Giovanni is supposed to make this epic encounter and it's as if he never trained a single day since he was defeated. Fucking Game Freak.

I was playing an imported Heart Gold and it turns out that there is a button with a picture of your running shoes on the touch screen that allows you run without holding the B button. GENIUS! It is so helpful until you get the bike. I just wish this feature was implemented in the earlier games.

Here's hoping Kanto will have way more activity this time around. I always felt that although it was pretty awesome you could visit it, there was really nothing to do aside from defeating all the gym leaders. Everything was essentially closed off and the whole region felt kinda dead.

Ya i kinda felt like every one moved to Johto and Kanto was like dead.

It would be smart to have the pedometer cause they would sell more.
Just think if the game came with some way to get kids to excerise more it would make a mother wanna buy it for her kid. Makes lots of sense plus it would make it a whole lot more gameplay after youve beat them all and caught them all.

Question will it have the GBA slot Pal Park so you can import pkmn like diamond and pearl.
I sure hope so.
What are the chances of a preorder bonus this time around?
I'd gather pretty high. There has been pre-order bonuses for the previous 3 DS games released in the US. I hope we get the cool figures from the Japan pre-order bonuses.

I've got a copy of HeartGold on the way, picking up SS on US launch. Did you use any guides to help with the translations? Any tips on using the Pokewalker i.e. menu translation or just trial and error?

Thanks!

Always liked the Pokémon series. However I haven't played the most recent of games simply because they seem repeative and a little boring.

I did however miss the Silver/Gold episodes, maybe this will be my chance to start again.

Definitely get one of these remakes. Silver and Gold are the best of the franchise.
