Has there been a penny guide drop at Game Crazy recently? I haven't heard anything in months (at least 3) but it looked like they reorganized the guide rack at a local GC so I'm thinking there is a slight chance there was a penny guide drop just recently.

I found a new super mario bros. at EB Games and when i went to buy it with some other game guides the employee took it and said "THIS IS PENNIED!, its mine!"... I was fucking pissed.

Sounds like it's time to make the magazine rack your bitch.

Ok wait... I've been around here for a little more than 2 years now, and I keep hearing that mentioned with glitter... I know something happened a while back, but I couldn't find it. Could someone explain or like to the original topic?

LOL I'd have checked if there were another copy of it around and tried to grab the other one, as I've left guides for employees before when they said they wanted it. I mean, I scratch their back, they'll scratch mine, right?
Still waiting for new super mario bros. and animal crossing wild world to drop at bb is today the day?
I was just in BB today and I am pretty sure they aren't lowered. Would they be on the website if they are pennied?

But I did manage top pick up tons of FFV GBA guides and Yoshi Island DS pocket guide. I got 4 of each, beginning with 1 of each on Sunday and then went back today for more. I think I left 1 Yoshi guide, not sure why lol. This was in the Chico, CA BB. Clerk was pretty cool about it. Only thing is the Yoshi guides seem sorta warped, but it's probably 'cause they are so small.

I was at another Gamestop today and I noticed that when I ask for a older guide they go to the back to check. This happend twice at 2 different locations. Seems like they have pulled the pennied guides to the stockroom. I dunno how to get em to bring out the guides. At least 1 store I asked if they had a Disgea 2 guide seemed like they had it but still says no to me (after coming from the back).

Usually if you ask for a guide they'll check the system and if it says its $0.01 they'll do you "no we don't have it." Lies. They will also tell you they have to send the guides back to where ever it is they go, that is another lie. They will either just keep piling up in the back, taken by employees, or get trashed.

Yeah, unless they're on the floor, it's unlikely you'll ever get anything. Even then, it'll depend on luck (or the mood of the employee) on whether they'll let you have the guide.

Been there, done that. My local EB did that, and it's a real PITA.

I picked up a Yoshi guide without an regard to which I was buying the first time I stopped at BB for penny guides, and I was pissed to find it was warped. I went back last week and looked through the three they had left, and all of 'em were warped. sort of annoying.

If they still have Yoshi and PokemonRanger guides when I go this weekend I'm buying the rest.

(I didn't have a guide list with me, I just checked each guide to the kiosk to see if it showed up, which I thought was working, but I don't think it does).

I'm gonna check the guide list again and see if I can member anything there that is pennied.

there are 2 ranger guide. Only the nintendo power version is pennied.

Yeah, there's 2 versions of Ranger.

Also, when going over your list, note that there's a PSP and a PSP+PS2 version of GTA:VCS. Only the PSP only one is pennied. I didn't know this the first time I went.

Oh, oh! I'm interested in a YI DS guide, and a FF V one if you can spare one!

Thanks for the info on the Ranger guides - wish I had it before I went out there :p None of the other guides there are pennied. Last YI is still there and I think next time I go, I'll just grab it for the hell of it.

cartman414 - I am not quite sure what I'm doing with these right now. I have never done a trade (only bought), and am not sure what a fair asking price would be for these guides. I will most likely set up a trade thread eventually, but in the meantime I will keep you in mind. I'll try not to wait too long, and I'll get back to you via PM once I investigate more on how guide stuff works around here (first penny guides I've gotten). You'll be the first to get my guides when I decide what I should do with them. Thanks for the interest. :D

I do not know. At the moment those are the two guides I want the most the lone Pokemon Pokedox guide I saw at BB was gone when I went on Monday I looked everywhere for it I could not find it.

Hmmm... I went to Allen's Auction last night in Lumberton NJ - someone had put out 2 biiig stacks of game guides. Don't know how much they went for, but looks like a fellow CAG is in eBay's #1 town.

Note: This auction doesn't get stuff from stores, but they do get it from people who dumpster dive and buy stuff on clearance.
BEST BUY ALERT!

The following guides were removed from the Best Buy site as of this morning:

Crackdown
Def Jam Icon
Sonic & The Secret Rings
Tom Clancy's Spilnter Cell: Double Agent

That is all.
When guides are removed from the site, it sometimes means that they sold out online and are NOT pennied. Out of all those, I would guess one of the best candidates for a drop would be SC: DA though, since it's been out longest, but BB has fooled me before.

Checked during lunch, all full price except SC: DA at 1/2 price. One you missed was Codes and Cheats: Winter 2007 Edition...not exactly exciting, but it's gone from the website as well.

While I was there, I picked up GW Factions, Scarface, NFS Carbon, and 2x Metroid Prime Hunters. Surprised to find any of those there. They must've found their way back onto the floor, they weren't there earlier.

Figured as much.

Seriously though, does anyone actually give a crap about those guides?
Figured as much. Seriously though, does anyone actually give a crap about those guides?
Probably not, but what else am I going to do with these pennies? They'll just end up sitting in the penny jar at home...neglected...lonely...

Actually, I'm planning on getting the Sonic guide if they drop. Never know when a deal for the game will come along. I've got some games now that I wish I had the guides for, but at the time they dropped, I didn't own the game and didn't care. So now I know better and will buy penny guides for any game I might conceivably purchase at any point in the future.

I found a SMT: Devil Summoner guide for $4.99 today at an EB, though I'm not sure if that's a recent drop or if it has been that price for a while.

At the same store I also found the guide for Blade Dancer, which was surprising since it's been .01 since 1/31 according to the Wiki.

Been that way for a bit.
Anyone know if there are going to be any drops tomorrow?
Nothing from Vahn yet, so I'd say it's not looking good.

It seems like older guides are starting to pile up in stores. With the wallet-busting fall game season at hand, and the all the guides that come with it, it would make sense that they'd drop nearly everything from last year's fall/winter season soon (Zelda, Gears, FFXII, etc.). So, on the positive side, we might be in for a monster drop when it does eventually come down.

Prime candidates:

Animal Crossing WW
Crackdown (off the website)
Def Jam: Icon (off the website, but probably way too early)
Final Fantasy III
Final Fantasy XII
Gears of War
Lost Planet
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
New Super Mario Bros.
Nintendogs: Pups (although it's been at BB forever, so it might be the new Morrowind Guide :) )
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (Prima & Nintendo Power)
Pokemon Pocket Pokedex
Pokemon Anniversary Hardback Pokedex (which dropped to 9.99, then sold out online)
Pokemon Ranger (Prima)
Rainbow Six: Vegas (9.99, off the website)
Rogue Galaxy (probably too early at this point)
Sonic & the Secret Rings (off the website)
Splinter Cell: Double Agent (fell to 9.99, then dropped off the website)
Virtua Fighter 5 (early, but might we see a new VF5 guide replacing it when the 360 version comes out?)
WoW Atlas
You & Wii
Zelda: Twilight Princess (NP & Prima)

how long the guide has been out usually doesnt matter. I mean we had guides that were out for about 3 months get pennied while something like Kingdom Hearts 2 took almost year.

Actually, there was Mage Knight Apocalypse, which took LESS than 3 months if I remember correctly. And, I'm still baffled that NSMB has remained at BB, while being pennied already at GS.

I think maybe BB is wising up and keeping the guides for popular games around for a longer time.

I doubt the WOW Atlas would get another drop, since it was just revised(I believe anyway) when they dropped the bookmark pack one.

Morrowind has actually had the same occur I believe, as I've seen different covers touting 'new info' here and there for it.

Basically, any game that has new versions coming out for newer systems that has only an older version guide out(like Godfather, which has had at LEAST 3 versions I can think of) will be first to drop imo.

So, any games from that list which are scheduled to be released on the Wii or PS3 soon that are out on other systems already which HAVE guides out for them SHOULD receive a reprint with the new info.

That's my 2 cents on that anyway

Did they ever made a Wii version of the Godfather guide? I never see that anywhere. I am guessing there wont be a reprint for a PS3 version for most guide. The Oblivion PS3 guide only had a sticker on the cover over the X360/Pc version.

Actually, that's what I was saying, as I feel the Xbox 360(or whatever was the last version of the Godfather guide) version of the Godfather guide won't be the last. I mean, they re-released it when it came onto the 360, so I see them doing it again for the Wii and PS3.

I've been checking, but it really sucks how they havn't had a drop in forever. At the Best Buy I work at there is 3 shelves almost entirely filled with guides. I'm hoping we have a huge drop all at once, like the ones we saw in the beginnging of the year.

Well the PS3 and Wii version has been out for a while, so they probably wont make another version.

BEST BUY ALERT:

The following guides have been pennied:

Def Jam Icon
Rainbow Six Vegas
Splinter Cell Double Agent

I have verified these three at my local store. Had .1 stickers on them and all (suprising since they've been pulling penny guides lately).

Didn't check on Crackdown, Sonic, or the Pokedex.

So much for the "no drops" scenario for this week.
does anyone know if the guide price ever go back up one it hits 1cent?
Usually no but sometimes there might be a reprint.
