If anyone can score me an extra Metal Gear Solid: PO, I've got a pretty hefty tradelist of guides I want to get rid of :D
Linky?

I grabbed an extra just for this reason.

they are actually tagged as 1 cent at local EB. I gave the cashier a copy of the Socom guide and everyone is happy.

Thx,

picked up a couple copies of MGS:pO, DAH 2, THP 8, NBA Street HC, and Justice League all for a penny each.

Also I found some cheap Chromehound, Phantasy Star Universe, Ninety Nine Nights guides at a local CompUSA.

Most are listed on my TL, w/ the exception of DAH 2.

FYI- I walked in on one store in the process of making the pull. They wouldn't let me have any, but I didn't see Disgaea 2 in their pile, so it may also be pennied out.

I was going to buy the game and guide (along with Tales of the Abyss) tomorrow. If it's pennied, they'll either be cool and give it to me since I'm buying $200 worth of stuff, or it'll have been destroyed.

Do you know if Tales of the Abyss was pulled?

Like Botticus, I was going to pick that one up tomorrow when I got the game with the 20% off... if it got pennied, I doubt I'll ever be able to get it.
I checked Tales of the Abyss today and two diff EBs and it rang up full price both times.
Awesome, thanks a ton!

This is probably the only PS2 RPG guide I'm missing at the moment, this and Rogue Galaxy, and RG will be easy to get at Best Buy when it's pennied.

Tales of the Abyss, not so much, so I'll grab it when I grab the game for that extra 20% off :D

If it's not been pennied out, the Disgaea 2 guide is $9.99. I picked up one a few months back when it dropped down, since I expected it to be MIA when it pennied out.

That guide is fantastic, too.
It's also a penny now.
fuck. Guess I'll go and try to give it to me with the game. If they have it anymore.
It's also a penny now.
I feel sorry for anyone who really wanted it (like Botticus), because getting anything from EB / GS requires some awesome contacts or an amazing amount of luck.

It's sad to see more people won't get to experience this awesome guide :(

These days, for me, when guides penny out at EB / GS it's more like "Shit, now I will NEVER be able to get this (usually an RPG) guide" instead of "awesome a penny, I can't wait to grab it!" I guess it results in me paying the cover price for the guides, which is ok, because I use them and they usually keep their value very well (especially if paired with the game).

i just drove a lil extra to the 'cool' store and picked out 3 games (Shadow Hearts, Fatal Frame and FF 7 Dirge) and then asked if they had any penny guides. He threw up a stack and i pooped myself when i saw Disgaea on top.

All the other ones were already covered here. The games were more filler than anything - ill sell SH and FF since I already have them and keep FF for probably about free. :)

We don't have any cool stores here, at all... most of those employees who were cool quit, and the guides that are left are gone way before the news even trickles down to CAG.

I just need to make sure I definitely pick up the Abyss guide tomorrow.

I like it more when guides drop to $5 and $10, like Devil Summoner for $4.99... that was awesome. But Disgaea 2 was $9.99 for a long time, it just sucks for late adopters to Disgaea 2 because the guide is a masterpiece. I guess I just don't like the idea of guides getting destroyed for good and being impossible to find after awhile.

The guide for Abyss is already selling for $15 or so on Ebay... I imagine it'll only go up once you can't find it in any store anymore. Like I said, they hold their value well for the most part :D

The dude there knows about CAG, told him the first time i went there when he asked how i knew about the drops.
This place still has drops from 5 drops ago just sitting in the back. They've let me sort thru those and grab ones ive missed. I've gotten a few nice ones, like FFXI Online and Atlas there were still around.
I also picked up Devil Summoner there for $5.

Add NBA Street Homecourt
Here's the list from my GS of penny guides from yesterday.

Destroy All Humans 2
Guitar Hero 2
Justice League Heroes
Metal Gear Solid: PO
Secret Codes 2006 volume 2 (omg hott!)
SOCOM US Navy Seals Combined Assault
Superman Returns
Tony Hawk's Project 8
Medieval II: Total War
Neverwinter Nights 2 World Builder Guide
Just an FYI, but it helps to go looking for penny guide stuff when you're buying $200 (PS2, Tales of the Abyss, Rogue Galaxy, and Disgaea 2) worth of merchandise when the store has done approximately $50 in sales over the last two days. God bless horrible road construction that prevents left turns.

The dude got the Disgaea 2 guide out of his truck which was parked out front to give to me for free, after I told him I'd gladly pay the $10 it used to be. Damn glad Roufuss convinced me to run over there tonight. No Tales of the Abyss guides of course, so even if that does penny, I'm screwed. Just like with Symphonia.

Congrats Botticus... I wish I could snag me one of those Disgaea 2 guides. It might partially make up for the fact that I bought the game for $50 and haven't played it yet (only to watch it go cheap on me). I'll make a vain attempt at checking out a few stores, but as Roufuss says, when EB/GS pennies guides that usually just means an end to their availability.

Got 2 copies of Disgaea 2 guide on my way home. Normally this one girl that works there wouldnt sell me any pennied guides. I was ready to leave the store, but she went into the back room. I grabbed 2 copies and paid for them before she noticed.
Add NBA Street Homecourt
That one went a week or two ago.

BUT, today, we had some more drops.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (Nintendo Power Guide)
Pokemon Ranger (NP Guide)
Yoshi's Island DS (NP Guide)
Xbox 360 How To Guide (not sure the EXACT name)
Perfect Dark Zero Graphic Novel

I think there was one more, but I can't remember.

Final Fantasy V is also pennied at EB (didn't see that mentioned). Also picked up the penny arcade books 1-2. They had them behind the counter all the way in back of a book 3 display. Mmmm penny penny-arcade books....

Like I thought, none of the EB's I went to today had anything.

I think I'll go ahead and snag some new guides I want off Ebay and Half... I can stomach $9.99 + $3 shipping, it beats $15.99 + tax or never getting the guide at all.

After reading that, I went back to the store I went to yesterday as I remember seeing the Perfect Dark Zero Graphic Novel. Walk out with the Graphic Novel plus another Disagea 2 guide

Was at the mall, figured id check out the two EB's there - they don't even have guides anymore, unless you count a couple spiderman 3's and SPM's at the counter.

They're all in the back.

And two more guide drops today.

You and Wii
Yoshi's Island DS (the other one, the half sized one)

DAMMIT! I was just at GS today returning some games and I know they had copies of Mystery Dungeon, Ranger, and Yoshi's Island. Guess I'll be going back tomorrow...

Picked up the following (all available for trade):
Metal Gear PO (minor wear)
Perfect Dark graphic novel (minor wear)
SMT Devil Summoner ($5.00+tax)
NBA Street Homecourt
Lego Star Wars 2 (from BB, shelfwear) -pending
NFS Carbor (from BB, wear, and minor tear on back cover)

Looking for Destroy all Humans 2. Check my list if you have one.

My one local EB still has a copy of Chromehounds on the shelf, as well as a couple of those other ones, but none of the 'good guides'. I mean, I'm happy because I snagged a Disgaea 2(the one clerk brought it from the back with a .01 sticker on it and all)and at the one other store, the one clerk was about to toss a bunch of guides and 'oops'd' a copy of Medieval II Total War on the ground just outside the store for me from the trash box.

He had some Superman Returns guides also in the box, but they were trashed.

BTW, can anyone DEFINITELY confirm Scarface DID penny at GS, since I've seen MULTIPLE stores with them where I've snagged other pennied guides, but been told that Scarface is still full price.

And actually, the one store I hit yesterday had some of those 'codes and cheats' books from 2005 on the shelf still, marked at FULL PRICE and ringing up as such.

I got the half-size Yoshi Island DS, Pokemon Ranger, and Scarface guides at BB. They had a few Yoshi and Pokemon, so I might go back next weekend.

They had Sims 2 Pets and Vice City Stories, but I didn't know those were pennied. Damn!
Does anyone know if BB will be doing a drop tomorrow? I've been hoping for that Rogue Galaxy guide to drop.
It WOULD seem to be the right Monday...but I guess we'll have to wait until vahn shows up to let us know.
Does anyone know if BB will be doing a drop tomorrow? I've been hoping for that Rogue Galaxy guide to drop.
They will probably pennied some of their older stuff before RG.

i finally found guides for the first time that were pennied. was at some gs i've never been to yesterday and noticed they had a copy of grandia 3, tales of legendia, and atelier iris 2. had the guy scanned grandia and then another guy next to him looks like deleted it and i gave him 2 more and said just to give me the guides. i was very happy. i might go back there since they had a few more stuff i could have picked up, but there was a line behind me so i didnt bother grabbing everything.

Honestly phear, I've noticed that when I kind of 'alert them' that they have items on the shelf that SHOULDN'T be there already, any other ones that were pennied are LONG GONE by the time I decide to come back for them.

Of course, the exact opposite could always happen and you go to grab multiples of each and they say NO to all of them, which has happened to me in the recent past.

Either way, good find and hopefully your local stores DM won't crack down like the one here did.

I had one guy check the prices on the guides at BB (because I couldn't remember if it was Pokemon Mystery Dungeon or Ranger that was pennied) and neither he nor the cashier commented on the penny guides aside from the cashier saying "oh, cool."

Is the pennied out Disgaea 2 guide a smaller, paperback-ish looking book? I saw that today and didn't think anything of it, I thought it was a graphic novel or something.

I was surprised when I saw it cause it weas thick but tiny (and that's what she said ;)

In case anyone needs the photo (although it pretty much looks like the game).

the guide has a similar size of a PS2 game...
it's thick but - from your description - that would be the pennied out guide.
Many Double Jump guide have that 'smaller graphic novel' look.

It may have never been on their site, but there is no FFVI Advance guide on BB.com. I don't know if that means it could be pennied, or just that it was never on the site to begin with.

With the price of gas, I'm not gonna waiste a trip until confirmation (I assume it isn't since Vahn hasn't said anything)

There was never a guide for FF VI Advance, they didn't make one period.

Sad, but true.

FFVI Advance's guide isn't on their site because it never existed.

A few days ago, there were 46 guides on BB.com. Yesterday, there were 46. This morning?

46.

Doesn't look like there will be drops today.

Was at a BB for something else and checked Crackdown and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. All the same price. Didn't check any other because all the BB people at the particular BB I went to are tools about checking prices (guides or otherwise).
