Rock Band series - Rock Band 4 out now

Ha! Official response to the RB3 setlist "leak":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHjBTOfcEok

Video confirms two new songs, "China Grove" by Doobie Brothers and "Centerfold" by J. Geils Band. Also confirms the heavily rumored tracks "Caught In A Mosh" (included in GameFAQs leak but not seen until now), "Beast And The Harlot" (educated guess since Avenged Sevenfold was confirmed to be in the game), and "25 or 6 to 4" (visible in some foreign GameStop trailer).

I'm not familiar with this song "Centerfold" by J Geils Band. They never made another album after 1978. Nope, none.

I'm a little surprised to see complaints about RB3's track list. But I guess I can see how this doesn't exactly pander to metalheads and guitar virtuosos. I mainly use RB for parties, so this list that's heavy on popular singles was meant exactly for people like me.

Can't say I'm all that impressed with it. Seems not to favor metalheads and favors 2000s songs more than anything.

Disappointed not to see Shiny Toy Guns on there.
I also am not really a fan of the songs selected. Granted there are a few here and there that I am excited for. I think I am more excited by the keyboard, which is why it is day one for me.

As for Visions, I ask you... why do people pick it then?
Probably because your friends like to pick shitty songs.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still excited for Rock Band 3, but I don't play nearly as much as I used to, and it doesn't look like Rock Band 3 is going to change that. At least now I have a reason to wait for the Squier pro guitar to go on sale.

This set list is great if you view Rock Band as a party game. 6-10 of your best friends drunk as fuck screaming 'MOTORIN! WHAT'S YOUR PRICE FOR FLIGHT?' makes it worth it. Aww, it has less metal. Boo fucking hoo.

Distubed is getting close to that "AGAIN??" Weezer/Offspring range.
This set list is great if you view Rock Band as a party game.
No, it's great if you like the songs on the list. This RB3 list is weak compared to the RB2 on-disc lineups...at least arguably RB1 as well.

Overall the setlist could be a lot better. There are some incredible choices on there, but there's also some really really shitty ones. Smashmouth? Fly Like An Eagle? Make me vomit please. Rock Band 2 had a better on disc list but I will still buy this and I will still skip the next guitar hero. I do wish there were more metal and less "party" tracks though.

I'm surprise there is no MGMT in RB3. They have keyboard and harmonies in their songs so it would have been a good pick for what they are introducing.

I agree about Smashmouth, but c'mon, it's not like it's Seal's Fly Like an Eagle.

I love me some Steve Miller Band. Hopefully Jungle Love makes it to the game eventually.

I'm curious how you guys play this game. I'd never put sister christian on my ipod, but i suspect it's hella fun to get a bunch of friend together, drink a bunch of beers, and belt it out. On the other hand, you can add as much testament to the game as you want, it's never going to go over well as party music.

Dude, Fly Like and Eagle is automatic win, just by association with Space Jam.

It seems like there are two distinct groups of RB players. There are those who came over from the GH series, and wish that Harmonix would stick with the metal/hard rock theme and frenetic fretwork. Then there are those who probably came on board with RB's inception, and use it simply as a pick-up-and-play party activity. There are those who play for the scores, and there are those who play for fun. I'm in the latter camp myself, and this is probably the one and only time I'd ever label myself a casual gamer.

You know what? You could probably boil it down to this question: do you ever use the mic?

I Enjoy the hell out of the setlist, don't get me wrong, but it's just a small nitpick when comparing it to Rock Band 2. Plus outside of metal, you know what else is missing? BILL JOEL! I Love Dream Theater and Children of Bodom as much as the next guy, but with a keyboard, harmonies and awhole band set up, Billy Joel would've been AMAZING.

I Think all I'm saying is that the setlist is good, but it isn't on par with Rock Band 2 in my opinion. That and I REALLY wanted Bang Camaro with all the harmonies.

I'm not too thrilled with the setlist for RB3, but I figure I'll mostly just be playing it for the new graphics engine and my old DLC. I've grown tired of the RB2 character models a long time ago.

I'm more excited about potential DLC for RB3 with the keyboards. How can they not have more Journey? This game screams for "Separate Ways"!

We have to realize now that while we are super interested in the songs the mass appeal isn't something they need to be as concerned with. They have a huge library of DLC to quell your desires. The new disc is all the features and supporting their new peripheral.

I think a similar song that I would like see in RB is The Distance by Cake. It would be so fun to "She's all alone" then your friends all yell - "ALL ALONE!" and singing the backup in general would be a great time.

I did some digging a few months ago and apparently Harmonix did approach Cake, who told them to pick a song. HMX of course wanted The Distance, and Cake's lead singer/band leader pulled the rock star douche move of "we're over that song" bullshit and said no. I think their manager is still trying to talk some sense into them, but they are at a stalemate and have no interest in Rock Band anymore. I lost a bit of respect for them after reading up on it.

Personally they are in my top 5 wants, but don't hold your breath. However, they do have a new album in the can and due by the end of the year, so maybe by then something will have changed.

I have absolutely no issues with the set list for this game, I'm very excited. I just wish that there would have been a bundle that included the Pro Mode Guitar and the Keyboard.

Looking at the achievements... I think the Track Packs that were released will get an update so the new features of RB3 can be utilized with the. The Perfect Drug was on Track Pack Vol. 2, Boston on the Classic Rock Track Pack, and [insert three songs here] on the Metal Track Pack. This has probably already been stated, if so my apologies.

I would buy a Billy Joel DLC pack the day it came out. Harmonix is probably saving big hits/bands for DLC knowing people will buy RB3 either for keys/Pro or just because they love RB.

They've had a few hits, but yeah, he seems to need an ego check for sure. From what I read their manager knows how important Rock Band is and how it boosts sales and gets their name out there again(it's been 5+ years since their last album), so hopefully he can get through to them.

Tokio Hotel over Yes and Jimi Hendrix? You cannot be trusted.

Thanks for the link, but honestly keyboard doesn't look all that challenging. I wonder if that was pro mode expert. At least from what they showed there, it's just glorified sweeps and runs that most of us are used to with expert guitar anyway. I really hope you are encouraged (or better, forced) to use two hands to play, like with an actual keyboard. (ie, held chords with the left hand while the right plays the more complex parts, etc)

This makes pro-keytaring possible, but I suspect the real reason is that there would be no way to fit a two-handed key chart on the screen in multiplayer. Gotta figure it would be a pain to chart normal mode, pro mode, and single player-exclusive two handed super-pro mode for each track. Unfortunate, but understandable.

Anyway I think keys could end up being more challenging than they look, for me at least. I could see myself stupidly treating the keys as frets, and pressing them early. Might take me a while to shake that habit. Or who knows, maybe my old piano lessons from fourth grade will kick in and it will be a breeze!

That's what I was wanting. A $20 "core game / no songs" Digital version of the game, that way it's always on the hard drive.

Anyone know what the new pro cymbals are supposed to be like? Early articles said there would be a drum bundle with these pro cymbals, but there hasn't been any word on whether these drums are going to be upgraded or not.

Also, is there any official difference between the Rock Band 2 drums and the Beatles drums? I've found forums where people can't seem to agree on anything, so that's not very helpful.

The drums are going to basically be the same as The Beatles/Rock Band 2 ones according to the recent issue of Game Informer. Plus the cymbals won't be as flimsy as the ones released a few years back from Mad Catz and titled 10 degrees down so things aren't as crammed.

I'm just gonna use my RB2 drums; although I only have 2 cymbals. Do they sell them as singles? It might be hard to find them. They are a pain in the ass to set up.

At least we've got a couple of industrial tracks on the disc this time.
Although would Marilyn Manson be considered Industrial?

nope, they sell em in packs of two. Not so sure if they're still sold in stores.

Rock Band classified MM as "Glam". Take that for what's it worth

The problem with the cymbals is that you essentially have to buy the three pack. A two pack and a one pack won't do it.

This is because one of the connectors that comes with the 3 pack is a double. See below; it's the pole connector at the very left right below the wires. Now I sold my Rb2 kit with the cymbals, but am 99% sure it did not have that with it.

Oh snaps! Hmm.. wasn't aware of that.

I'll probaby never play pro drums anyway. Don't pro drums also have an extra pedal?

Edit: After listening to clips of every song, I have to say there's also a lack of punk on 3. It also seems like they don't have many songs that integrate keys with all other instruments very well. Most of the keyboard songs are heavy on keys and light on everything else.

I wonder if they'll have synth parts you'll have to play on the keyboard? Also, it would be nice to see them patch the synthpop and darkwave stuff on RBN to include keys. Du Hast is a good song because it has everything.

Does this mean RBN bands will have to have pro modes and keys? That's a lot of extra work and development time.

I also wonder if bands that don't have keys will be less and less included in the game. If that's the case, and they have you play keys on synth parts, we'll see lots more Industrial, New Wave, Darkwave, Futurepop, and Synthpop on RB and RBN.
