Rock Band series - Rock Band 4 out now
They've confirmed that it's one-handed only. This makes pro-keytaring possible, but I suspect the real reason is that there would be no way to fit a two-handed key chart on the screen in multiplayer. Gotta figure it would be a pain to chart normal mode, pro mode, and single player-exclusive two handed super-pro mode for each track. Unfortunate, but understandable.

Anyway I think keys could end up being more challenging than they look, for me at least. I could see myself stupidly treating the keys as frets, and pressing them early. Might take me a while to shake that habit. Or who knows, maybe my old piano lessons from fourth grade will kick in and it will be a breeze!
The keyboard is only one-handed? From the looks of things you don't even need to hit the right key -- just the key that's in the right area that's lighted up. Might as well just get another guitar instead of the RB3 keyboard.

Now that I think about it, there's enough metal in 3.

Anthrax?
Avenged Sevenfold?
Slipnot?

It's not Slayer, but it's good enough for me.

Metal is too hard to play anyway.

I was really hoping for this for the keyboards

We have enough rainbows with Dio.

There's like 4 metal songs this time around, and two of them have already been in Guitar Hero.

Harmonix needs to man up and release Metal Band; I'm here to break necks and melt faces.

Anyways, does anyone know if when Rock Band 3 hits, RBN charters will be able to chart songs for Pro mode (and put keyboard sections?). I have a feeling that would be what would keep me coming back if that's the case.
seems like they don't have many songs that integrate keys with all other instruments very well. Most of the keyboard songs are heavy on keys and light on everything else.

I wonder if they'll have synth parts you'll have to play on the keyboard? Also, it would be nice to see them patch the synthpop and darkwave stuff on RBN to include keys. Du Hast is a good song because it has everything.
It looks like they will be charting a lot of abstract parts to keys. For example, James Brown's "I Got You (I Feel Good)" has a relatively high rating on keys - I can only assume this means you play the horns with the keyboard. I think their intention is to keep the keyboardist as busy as possible.
Does this mean RBN bands will have to have pro modes and keys? That's a lot of extra work and development time.
Saw this addressed here: http://rockbandaide.com/7608/rock-band-network-2-0-announced/ Basically RBN will be getting all the big RB3 features except pro-guitar, although they might look into adding that later.

These are the keys you use for "standard" mode. The larger colored sections span the entire keyboard and are the general guide you use for placing your hand in pro-mode.

Yeah i wanted some of the band Rainbow, not Dio or Dio when he was in Rainbow.

I agree with you enough metal, go play WoR if that is your thing. This setlist still has more I am interested in than GH:WoR. The worst part of these games is having to be forced to play songs you a) haven't ever heard of b) just hate. There are still a lot of songs here is can't stand,(Rammstein – Du Hast.. I am already sticking a fork in my eyes thinking about having to play this again) but less than GH.

There are more than 4 metal bands (Anthrax, A7X, Deep Purple, Dio, HIM, Manson, Ozzy, Rammestein, Slipknot... then there is also the Hair Metal bands). Yes, alot of these have already been done in Guitar Hero but still there is plenty of variety. It's not like you don't currently have plenty of options; same with the future. The majority of RBN tracks are all metal. Let alone you could always grab the new GH as they have plenty of metal tracks on their track list.

Personally, I would have thought we would see more songs that utilize the keyboard and full band concept i.e. November Rain, What I've Done, etc but instead they include 3 foriegn tracks + rehashed GH songs + keyboard only + band only tracks. Queen's song is one of the very few that truly use the concept.

Am I the only one happy to finally get some of the previously GH only songs in RB? I mean, I absolutley love playing Freebird, but hate having to put in GH. Repeat songs or not, the less I need to use my GH discs to play songs with friends, the better.

You gotta walk a fine line with the "already in Guitar Hero" complaint. On the one hand, I think it would be better from a marketing standpoint if RB3 had more unique songs. On the other hand, I sure as hell am glad they didn't pass on "Bohemian Rhapsody" because that other game was getting it.

Getting vastly superior versions of songs from really old games (No One Knows, Free Bird, etc.) doesn't bother me either... I don't know, maybe they could have relegated the "repeat" tracks to DLC? But I'd definitely buy the majority of those anyway, so again, their on-disc inclusion is fine IMO. It's kinda convenient from a branding perspective, since there are a lot of songs that have never been in a Rock Band game, even though some have technically already been in a Harmonix game.

You also have to remember that all those GH games up until World Tour were mostly cover songs had guitar only tracks. This time around you get master tracks and full band support.

I don't have any problem with old cover-version GH songs getting stuck in RB now. Between the time lapse, series/instrument change, and cover-to-original transition, it doesn't feel like a double-dip at all to me.

I'm downloading today's Disturbed DLC as soon as I get home from work. With all the RB3 news this week, the DLC is getting overlooked.

But color me disapointed that we don't have November Rain or a good Springsteen song on that RB3 list. Hoping for eventual DLC there.

QFT. Getting the original versions into the RB database (with the RB interface and additional instruments) makes all the difference to me.

Just curious, what's everyone's plans for purchasing RB3? Disc-only or are you picking up the keyboard bundle? Buying any of the new instruments? Day 1 purchase or are you waiting for it to go on sale? Personally, I'd love to buy it day one with the keyboard bundle, but I can't justify the $130 price tag. If the bundle drops to $100 before the end of the year, I'll be all over it. Otherwise, I'll probably wait for the game to go on sale and maybe get the keyboard if it ever drops in price.

I'm getting it day 1 in the keyboard bundle. I'm too much of a RB fan to pass it up when it comes out and I'm dying to ditch the guitar and start maining the keyboard.

Keyboard bundle here too. Was gonna get a converter for my midi keyboard, but I don't have room for a whole keyboard when playing RB with friends. Plan on picking up the pro "real" guitar at some point (not the 100+ button one) but will probably wait for a sale on that, depending on price.

This. Although I don't know if I'll main the keyboard or not. I'd like to stick with drums, although I probably won't do that until our basement is finished.

I'll be getting keyboard bundle the first week (first day if Amazon decides to offer free release day shipping like the game only, might have to sign up for Prime trial). I imagine it will be cheaper within a few months but I don't want to wait, especially if new DLC won't be compatible with RB2.

My girlfriend is interested in trying the keyboard and I can't even get her to play guitar on easy, she just sings. I kind of doubt she will enjoy it enough to stay with it or go to higher difficulties. I'm sure the keys will be used enough to justify buying the bundle.

I'm like the go-to Rock Band guy in my group of friends, so even if I wasn't a frothing-at-the-mouth fanboy I'd feel like it was my solemn duty to have it at launch. :bouncy: I thought about going for the MIDI adapter and using my brother's keyboard, but I'd rather have the RB-branded model for maximum user-friendliness. I happen to have a bunch of GameStop gift cards burning a hole in my pocket, so I'll use their pre-order deal.

Has it been mentioned whether or not the Rock Band Stage Kit will work with Rock Band 3? That and the RB2 song export details are the only things holding me back from getting RB3.

It's a bummer but I've picked up a few of these to make up for it!

I doubt I'll ever play it in "All Instruments Mode" so that works for me.:cool::cool:

Those lights are pretty Shaq-Fuing awesome looking! Am I mistaken or can you use it with your stereo, as well?

I'm still using a RB1 drumkit with a tear in the red pad. Will be upgrading to the new drums with cymbals once RB3 comes.

Keyboard bundle for me. I have yet to preorder it, but I got 2 months. Hopefully, I can get a u.talk.back gift card by then to help alleviate that. Honestly, I should look into Amazon for my preorders. A $20 gaming credit can go a long way.

I am interested in the cymbals and the Pro-Mode guitar, I just need to get rid of my old drumkits.

I'm looking at getting the game and a midi adapter for a keyboard I've had for years and never used. Will need to pick up a third cymbal. Lastly, I'm looking forward to the Squier Strat. Hopefully it won't cost a shitton when they finally announce the price!

Day 1 on Keyboard bundle. Most likely grabbing 3 cymbal pack along with a new drumkit as well Day 1. I plan to get the Pro Guitar at some point; hopefully on sale.

I'm going disk only. Since the # of songs I would want to play using the keyboard is low at this point I figure wait it out for a price drop and for more post RB3 DLC that includes keyboard charts to show up.

If existing RB tracks and DLC had keyboard support added to them then I would pick up the kb bundle but that looks less likely as we closer to release date.

Is that what Amazon is offering? I'm gonna wait till the last minute and see what Best Buy and Target will be offering. Although I do want those DL tracks Gamestop have.

Is there any news on a bundle with everything?

Amazon is not offering anything on the keyboard bundle yet. A lot of the time they offer credit to match Walmart.com but walmart.com doesn't even have the keyboard bundle listed.

On rockband.com they are saying that if you preorder at Best Buy you get an in game guitar and 500 Reward Points ($10).

What I meant was if I had been doing preorders at Amazon, I would have had gaming credits to help pay it down instead of hoping to get a free GameStop giftcard. Sorry about that, I could have worded it better.
Need VoiVoid, preferably something from Nothingface.
I would also like some Nothingface (the band,) preferably something from the album Violence.

Anyone have experience with both the Rock Band 2 and Beatles drums? They are the same model but I see conflicting posts that say RB2 is louder/quieter or Beatles is louder/quieter, one pedal is better than the other, and so forth. But personally I can't tell any difference.

I was just wondering how many of you can, or have at least attempted to, play an instrument AND sing at the same time
I was just wondering how many of you can, or have at least attempted to, play an instrument AND sing at the same time
I think I tried doing that with one of the Nirvana songs. Don't remember much more than struggling to finish the song and that I have no business singing.:lol::lol:
I was just wondering how many of you can, or have at least attempted to, play an instrument AND sing at the same time
Only songs I'm fully confident with on vocals have I tried doing it and guitar'ing at the same time.

I "sing" and play guitar all the time if I'm drinking while playing, or sing the chorus with friends, but unless someone holds the mic up to me while I'm drunkenly playing guitar too, no.

I enjoy doing vocals + guitar, but usually it just proves that I know the lyrics much less than I think I do! Then my attention gets divided between the top and bottom of the screen and it's a big mess. In cases where I REALLY know a song inside and out though, it's a lot of fun!

This will be a lot easier with harmonies and backup vocals though. Have a main vocalist do the heavy lifting, while you just lean into a mic stand and chime in occasionally. Loved doing that in The Beatles and I'll love doing it in RB3!

I do both regularly. It doesn't always work out perfectly score-wise but it's really easy to do physically since I have a mic stand.

Here's the DLC coming your way next week, the very first 04 pack, featuring 9 country tracks. There's something for the ladies, something for the fellas, some picking for the guitar players, some country rhythm for the drummers and a hoot and a holler of a time to be had by all. Enjoy!
