Rock Band series - Rock Band 4 out now

FYI, I watched some of the videos for "Are You Experienced" and it looks like the live tracks aren't the only ones that aren't the original studio recordings from the album. The version of "Stone Free" is actually off of "Valleys of Neptune". Not sure about any of the others.
I feel the same way. For me the setlist has its highs and its lows. It's almost like they spent so much for some songs (i.e. Imagine) that they were left with pennies for others. Also, I can't stand that they picked foriegn language tracks for disc content; leave that shit for DLC.
+1

for every awesome song I see on the setlist there are 2-3 songs I've never heard of or wouldn't ever play

Rumor is that these were taken off PartnerNet:

The Doors Free Launch Pack:
Light My Fire
Riders On The Storm
Touch Me

Greatest Hits pack:
Hello, I Love You
L.A. Woman
Love Her Madly
Love Me Two Times
Peace Frog
People Are Strange
Roadhouse Blues
Soul Kitchen
The Crystal Ship

That free launch pack is surprisingly generous of Harmonix. I mean, even a three pack selection of lame in-house Harmonix bands would be enough but they go out of their way to license and chart three of the most popular Doors songs only to give them away? Weird. Maybe it'll be a timed offer like the free GH Metallica export to coax people into jumping over to RB3?

Given RB's track record with free offerings, this is a HUGE, no fuckING HUGE step up from lame pop, or in-house HMX bands.

That is [quite possibly] the single area where Neversoft has completely trounced RB, quality free offerings, dating all the way back to GHIII.

There is a pack of these exact songs floating around the torrent sites for use in Rock Band, so I'd say it is a definite.

I'd rather get 20 HMX band songs than 3 songs from the Doors.

I bet it'll (free Doors songs) be EA's way of rewarding new purchasers of the game like they do with everything and like they did with RB2.

Anybody notice most of the DL content lately has been of bands that are already on 3? I'd rather see bands we haven't seen before or won't see on the disc as DLC.

Yeah, I wish that instead of revisiting artists that are already in the game like Creedence, The Smiths, Bob Marley, R.E.M., T. Rex and Hendrix that they'd bring new artists into the game like when they gave us tracks from Hannah Montana, Nickelback, Snoop Dogg and Reba McEntire.
You are alone in this.
Nope, I agree with him. I like vagiant, bang camaro and alot of the other hmx bands. Also, the 20 free dlc songs that came with rb2 from the manual I liked and enjoyed playing over some of the other dlc content I have. So yeah, i'd take 20 hmx/or other dlc songs over a 3 song pack by the doors.

I don't think it's Harmonix being generous. I'm willing to bet this is some sort of 360 exclusive.

Definitely not alone. Not a Harmonix band, but BtBaM's Prequel to the Sequel made the 20 pack worth the space by itself.

I'd take one more BtBaM track over the entire Doors discography

Okay, I guess I'm alone in this.

Personally, I'd take one Doors track over 50 of these no-name bands. I love indie music as much as the next guy, but I use Rock Band as a party game, and nobody ever plays the songs from the Harmonix bands or the RB2 20-pack.

 You're not alone, that's why I mentioned it.

For me Ghost Hounds made the 20 worth it, but yeah, there are 19 others eating up hard drive space I'd love to lose. Don't forget the other stellar freebies we've gotten like Miranda Cosgrove, Steven Colbert & Spongebob(?). Also like you said, out of the 25 or so freebies, ZERO get played at parties.

I'm not a huge Doors fan but they have some quality stuff and there's a reason why they are still listened to 35 years after they ended. I'm looking forward to the pack.

Hell no you're not alone. I'll take 3 songs from The Doors songs over fucking fifty "Harmonix" bands, and I don't even LIKE the Doors. I can't hear Riders on the Storm without singing "Over-rated band..."

Anyway - "The Touch" is up on RBN now. Not sure if it's the original version or not.

Also worth mentioning is that the 3-pack is free from October 26th to November 1st, and only purchasable through the in-game store. After that the songs will be available as regular paid DLC, and the full set of Doors tracks will a be available as a 12-pack.

So this is obviously a ploy to drum up first-week sales/pre-orders. And it's a damn good one! :D

They really should extend that a bit longer. It's very possible that some of us with online preorders may not receive the game in time.
I'm in the same camp as 3 doors songs are better than 20 random no name bands.

Looking forward to it.
Same. And now it's making me want RB3 as before I was kinda indifferent to getting another Rock Band game.

Great news on the free Doors DLC! Love the Doors and these songs should be a blast to play! Definitely in the Doors > 20 free songs camp. RB3 was already a day 1 pickup for me, but this along with the $80 keyboard bundle that I will hopefully receive make it that much better. Less than 2 weeks!!!

This game is really going to mess with my wallet. I desperately need a new guitar - my RB2 Strat is at the point now where it misses enough notes that it makes it a pain to play the game, and I don't possess the SKILLZ to fix it. My GH3 Les Paul's tilt sensor has been wonky since like 6 months after I purchased it, so it's not a perfect alternative. The good old GH2 Xplorer is still holding up, but I'm sort of used to being wireless at this point, plus I need two guitars so a friend can use one.

It just blows because part of me wants to wait and get the "real" Fender when it comes out, but that doesn't work for any of my GH games, or in non-pro mode, for that matter. Guess I'll get an RB3 Strat (Amazon has the release date as this Friday) and go for the real Fender down the line. Between that and the keyboard & game, this month is gonna hurt.

You're goddamn right it is!
I'd rather have Freezepop than The Doors.
Me too, but The Doors are still a tremendously popular classic band. And it's not like RB2 had a free Freezepop song either, unless you count the one that came on the Xbox Magazine disc.

Buy it in-store day one, and return the copy you get in the mail.

what disc number is that on?

Lego RB is on sale at Best Buy for 15 bucks according to the email ad I just got. That seems like a decent price considering you get the export code with it, no? Thinking about getting it even though I received it via Goozex a while back just so I can get a giant song pack for 15 bucks.

Looks like I'll be the guinea pig for the non-pro RB Strats coming out, going to place the order today. Should have it Monday or Tuesday. I'll post any noteworthy changes over the RB2 model when I get it.

I wish they'd get the final details on the fucking RB2 export out there and give us the option to do it now.

Speaking of which, as sad as it seems I still need the "keep overdrive going for 90 seconds" achievement before I dump RB2...anyone that still needs it (or is willing to pop on to do it) want to get online and do that? I'm available pretty much every day after 6pm EST.

Technically its 25, you still pay 10 dollars even with the export code. Well worth it though, get the rest of the songs without sitting through that shitty Sum41 song.

fuck, I forgot about that. Thanks for the heads up. Still not a terrible offer but I'll pass, I don't want a bunch of those but the price at 15 bucks was too good to pass up.

If the pricks at Microsoft allowed export fees to be counted in their spend 30/get 10 back promotion I'd probably do it, but...here we are.

Ugh I just ordered a keyboard stand and pro cymbals from Newegg, a copy of Green Day: RB, a bunch of fresh batteries, and a friggin' Beatles LE bundle. I am both excited and mortified by this turn of events. :bomb:

It's money efficiently spent though! I've been wanting a second RB guitar to replace my aging GH3 model. A new RB3 guitar would have been $60 and that Beatles bundle was $80ish (check the deal forum). So it's kinda like I just bought a new guitar, then got upgraded drums and a mic stand for $20. :D

I am psyched about The Doors. That's a great song list, and I'm very pleasantly surprised to see "The Crystal Ship" on there.

The band's been one of my favorites for many years (I even have this, amongst other Doors stuff, on my wall:
doors001.jpg
) and, since I have a pretty deep voice, Jim Morrison's vocals are within the range I'm comfortable with.
Just canceled my Kinect pre-order and ordered the keyboard bundle.

I think I made the right decision.

Now $124.99 on Amazon.
I just preordered also, along with the RB3 regular Strat.

As far as the game...I was going to Gamestop or Best Buy it, but I only want one of the three preorder incentive songs from Gamestop, and even with my 20 dollar gift card for Best Buy, after tax it wouldn't be much less than the $125 price.

Sucks that they took the $10 off a future purchase thing on Amazon, but if it's $10 off future purchase vs. $5 off the price, I'll take the $5.

Also, Amazon has matched the 15 dollar price on Lego Rock Band for 360.

The $10 coupon was never on the Keyboard Bundle; only for the Game Only version. Even with the price drop I think it I will stick it out with my Gamestop order (really want My Own Summer and am not sure when it will release separately on Live).

Next week's DLC: http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4090491#post4090491
Stone Temple Pilots – “Big Empty”
Stone Temple Pilots – “Crackerman”
Stone Temple Pilots – “Creep”
Stone Temple Pilots – “Dead & Bloated”
Stone Temple Pilots – “Huckleberry Crumble”
Stone Temple Pilots – “Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart”
Jimmy Eat World – “Bleed American”
Jimmy Eat World – “My Best Theory” +
Jimmy Eat World – “Pain”
It's worth noting that that IGN poll (asking about the 2,000th song) has revealed four consecutive weeks of DLC now:

10.05.10 - R.E.M. (8-pack)
10.12.10 - Jimi Hendrix (Are You Experienced)
10.19.10 - Stone Temple Pilots (6-pack)
10.26.10 - The Doors (3+9 pack)

The two remaining artists on that poll probably mean we'll be getting:

11.??.10 - Rush
11.??.10 - Billy Joel

Not bad on the STP stuff. I'll get a few. Is that the final week of RB2/1 compatible content, or are they still doing some after this, just not every week?

Edit - looks like this is it for RB 1 & 2 content. This is actually a pretty significant event but I can see why HMX isn't really mentioning it.
