SOCOM: Confrontation *General Discussion Thread*

I just got this game on Monday and I tried to install it from the disc yesterday and nothing was happening. How long does it take before the install actually starts. I sat there for about 5--7 minutes and it did not do anything. It just said installing please wait . . . but the install progress bar never came up.

Thanks

Please take me out of the CAG clan on this game. I'm selling this game back to Gamestop tomorrow.

If I get this game back via Goozex next year, I'll post in here again. There's just too many unresolved issues and too much stuff to play on the 360 side right now for me. Also my podcast records on Sundays so I wouldn't get to play with any of you that much.

Have fun everyone.

Thanks
It takes FOREVER. I don't have the actual time, but mine was stuck on that point, too. Keep in mind after installing the game, you'll have to update it as well, which is gonna take another 30-45 minutes. Total time from the point I first put the disc in to started playing for me was about 2 hours. Why Sony game updates aren't nearly as seamless and well integrated as 360 updates, I don't know. They're absolutely ridiculous.

That said, once you get into the game, it's pretty damn fun.

Thanks Steve. I was trying to do it real quick before I went to bed last night so I was very impatient. I will try to do when I have more time.
The scopes work now
Wait, what exactly do you mean? Are you saying they fixed the scope/cross-hairs perspective annoying issue?

Yes, the offset scope issue is now fixed if thats what you mean. Like if you were laying prone and scoped in, your scope would rise like you are kneeling down. That doesnt happen any more

Sweet - Perhaps a CAG clan thread should be made, for one trying to get some more support, and two keeping the clan discussion out of this thread so others don't get mad.

I was going to make it last night.. but I really don't know what to say in it.. and figured you would be better off / maintain it better than I could.

Ok, before the new patch I was not having any disconnection problems.
I "Upgraded" to the new patch this morning and now I cant play one complete game without being disconnected :whistle2:?

Im almost there with you Hitman

Don't go Khondor...at least not yet! You won't get much for trade-in for the game anyway. BTW, I need to download the patch and fire up the game again.

Well I got $19.75 before bonuses for my SOCOM copy at Gamestop in Fenton, MO on Thursday. Traded it in with NCAA Football 09 (360) and got $62.26 credit total.

Damn, I forgot about SOCOM night last night and was playing Fallout3 before I had to return it to Hollywood Video today. Sorry guys but then again most people are offline by the time I get on to play. ;)

I was playing Far Cry 2. With both Gears of War 2 and Resistance 2 breaking this week, I had to make further head way before it is put aside (temporarily!). I am also waiting on Fallout 3 and Fable 2 to be delivered. Good times!

Now that we are 3 weeks into the launch of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation it is about time for a more comprehensive update straight from the developers. All of us at Slant Six would like to thank those active community members who continually exhibit their passion for SOCOM- you are a tough audience but we would not want it any other way. The launch was pretty rough on all of us but we want to let you know that we are committed to continual improvement of the game

Patch 1.20 went live last Tuesday and it has met its goals: stability is much better and the server load issues seen in the first week have been mostly addressed. With this now out of the way, the team has turned our attention to the 1.30 update which will fix several features (including trophies and SOCOM: Confrontation Awards), fix a bunch of bugs and respond to some of the requests of the community.

Here are some of the items planned for the update. Please note that some items listed may be delayed to a following update if additional development is required beyond what our schedule for the 1.30 update allows. This should not be considered a guarantee that these items will be in the 1.30 update, but we did want to give everyone a heads up as to what is on our plate currently.

We are also hard at work on an additional patch which will include the remaining community support features. The design and art teams are also making great progress on new content- based on some of the posts in the forums, many of you will be very happy with what is coming down the pipe.

Thanks again for your continuing support,

-Confrontation Development Team

I dont really know how I feel about them restricting explosive weapons in ranked rooms, but other than that looks good

Outstanding! They are really committed to making this the penultimate shooter for the PS3. Im not sure how I feel about the no explosives in ranked rooms though. The /gl is needed when it is 1vs3 or 4

Hello CAGs,

I am new ps3 owner and have never played any of the Socom games. I purchased the new Socom game the other day and went online to try it out. I totally got wasted and had difficulties figuring out the controls/strategies without getting wasted ever couple of minutes. I don't know anyone else that owns a ps3 so I don't have anyone on my friends list so I was wondering if there is a group that I could join to play with so I can eventually survive for more than 30 seconds. With no single player game to practice with it's rather frustrating.

Thanks

The problem with SOCOM is that the community takes this game very seriously, and the core players are very, very good. It is not very forgiving of new players, especially if you do not commit to playing it several nights a week. This is not to say that players are unfriendly - because they are fun to play with and welcoming. You will simply be constantly owned as most active players are so much better and they play every night. I like the game but I suck at it. Add in playing Far Cry 2, Gears of War 2, Resistance 2, some Fallout 3, and Fable 2 (plus Left 4 Dead!!!!)- and it is obvious I will never be good at SOCOM.
If you want to get better at this game you have to be willing to put the hours in. Learn the maps, and jump into non spawning games. When you die switch your view to watching the best player on your team, and learn from what they do. Over a period of time you will have watched some amazing players and learned some tricks - and that team work wins. Good luck.

Yeah the CAG support for this is dead. I still play a ton with personal friends so If anyone ever wants to play holla at me. I am still pretty confident that this will be the best online shooter when the community features finally get implemented. Hopefully more people pick it up when the patches hit. I just wish more of yall liked it as much as I do

I love the game, and the series itself for that matter, but not only the fact that theres a ton of other stuff out right now, I don't want to play the game for weeks and find the trophies and stuff aren't retroactive.

Plus, when I buy the game along with it, I could bring others into the mix. ;)

This game isn't dead, because many thought CAG Support for Burnout Paradise and CoD4 were dead, but once we got it better organized and a heavily devoted administrator involved, they did very well.

Thanks for the advice. Is there a way while I'm playing in game to tell who on the team is doing the best?

im always around game night but noones else has lets see what happens this weekend

I've been busy with school stuff, and the last few times I've played it I did not have much fun with it. So I am going to keep for a while longer and see what patches/fixes come down the pipeline. I will see if those make the game more enjoyable to organize and play.
Thanks for the advice. Is there a way while I'm playing in game to tell who on the team is doing the best?
Is it select you hit to bring up the leaderboard? Just bring up the leaderboard and see who's getting all the kills and set your camera to watch them.

Or use the headset that came with the game and listen and/or talk with the other players. The amount of people that don't use a headset online with the PS3 (even in games that include them) always facinates me.

Like I said next year if they patch everything to get it working with full support I may come back, but with Gears 2, CoD 5, QoS, and Left 4 Dead (once I get a used copy because of my personal EA ban) for the 360 in terms of shooters, I don't have time to mess with a game that is currently nearly unplayable with errors I shouldn't have to deal with in a retail game.

You know how hard it is to get a 4.5 review on IGN? You almost have to try to get it that low a score. I'm so saddened by this; if you listen to earlier episodes of my podcast, this was one of my top 5 most anticipated games of the year.

The headset is excellent though, it should be included with every PS3.
The headset is excellent though, it should be included with every PS3.
This is gospel. But then again more and more idiots would have voices then...
The headset is excellent though, it should be included with every PS3.
It should, but the problem is Sony has already lost $3 billion on the PS3, and including a headset with every console for free would lose them more money (I'm going to estimate the headset costs around $30 to make, and if you multiply that by 15 million (estimating how many PS3 consoles there are), that would be $450 million in loses (and people already complain PS3 is too expensive already, and Sony is still losing some money with every PS3 they sell, thanks to the very high costs of the PS3 main motherboard (mostly the Cell CPU)). That is why a headset will never be included with every PS3 console and out of the question. Sony just can't afford it (especially with Howard Stringer badly wanting PS3 to break even and profit at the moment, which is why Sony will not drop the PS3 price regardless).

Anyway, I'm going to get the SOCOM bundle sooner or later, for the game and headset. I can't find it now, but IGN gave the headset an excellent review, saying it works wonderful.
im always around game night but noones else has lets see what happens this weekend
Yeah my bad you are always around. We didnt play together last Sunday but I saw you were on all night. Ill probably get on in a couple hours if anyone wants to get down

I played this tonight, first time since last update. I had some great rounds with just a little stutter lag then after about 6 rounds I locked up and had to reset my ps3. No other game on any console I own right now locks up and and makes me reset. I might just wait until next update again.

That 4.5 review is really unfair and not indicative of how the game plays right now. While I do think the community aspects need to improve, the game has no other problems. Everything works. This is game is good - but it does require dedication as kills do not come cheap.

Yeah pretty much. Its like if I dont play for 2 days I will get on and get owned until I remember the maps/hotspots.

LBP online makes me reset my PS3 more than Socom does now.

Has there been any news whether or not they're considering ditching the channel setup in favor of a more up-to-date matchmaking system?
PlayStation Universe re-reviewed the game also:
http://www.psu.com/[UPDATE]-SOCOM--Confrontation-Review-Review--a0005241-p0.php

It went from a 7.5 -> 8.5. 1Up was the same way. Like the re-reviews say, most server issues are now fixed, just a matter of getting features added. I don't know if SOCOM will ever have a party system, since SCEA and the devs might want to make it a Home feature (like they did for Warhawk).
Well they already had pictures of the Socom home space so I assume that is in closed testing. As for the optimatch/party system, it ABSOLUTELY is coming. They have said it over and over. It will most likely be in 1.4

1.3 should be here next weekend barring no problems
