I agree that Pulaski was a lot like Bones, but I just found her character to be really boring, even more so then Beverly, who is one of my least favorite crew members (right up there with Troi).
Only one part of my body disagrees with that statement ;)

Diana Muldaur was looked pretty good in TOS skirt uniforms back in the day.

One thing I've been thinking about a lot while watching Voyager is, "would I boink Janeway?"

I guess I would, but probably just because she's a captain.

(semi-spoiler since you haven't seen all of Voyager yet 2fast)

If Q wants to hit it (and remember he can CREATE women if he wants), it has to be good.

:D

Good enough for Q, good enough for me.

Neither one of them is really anything great. Both of them are primarily defined by their status as doctor, and there's not much else.

Beverly Crusher is a cipher. Outside of her job, she's entirely defined by the men in her life -- her son, her non-relationship with Picard, and her dead husband. That's something, I guess, but what about her? Who is Beverly Crusher? I really don't know.

She's dedicated and hard working -- but who isn't? She takes the doctor stuff very seriously. And she likes Tai Chi. But that's it.

Her best episode, "Remember Me", could have starred any character. Her worst ("Sub Rosa") was so boring and unwatchable it was almost enough to make you glad that her character was underdeveloped. The rest of the time, she helps move the plot along, but her character never grows or develops.

I don't know whose idea it was to have two unrequited romances that went nowhere (Troi/Riker, and Picard/Crusher) but there's supposed to be romantic tension or a will-they-wont-they dynamic, but they never even got to teasing with either of these. For there to be an unrequited romance, you have to remember they have the hots for one another more than once a season. When Picard and Crusher confess their lack of feelings in the seventh season, everybody yawned and wondered why they waited seven years for that.

Pulaski is, in many ways, worse because outside of her job, there's only the recycled Bones stuff and the conflict with Data. I'm all for more conflict between characters, but this was the stupidest place to put it. The moment she started hating on Data (which was, what, in the first five minutes we saw her?) was the moment that Gates McFadden got her job back.
Was Sub Rosa the ghost one? That's got to be one of the worst Trek episodes of all time.
Seriously.
It's hard to believe that First Contact's 10th anniversary is next month.
Oh wow, yeah that is hard to believe. The movie still holds up very well. I remember going to the theater and watching it with my dad, my friend, and my friend's dad when I was 10.

Sadly, I have never seen a Trek film in the theater. I always watched the VHS/DVD. It's a shame because it would probably be a great experience to see a great Trek film in the presence of other fans.

The only Trek film I've seen in the theaters is Nemesis. I remember when First Contact came out my dad wanted to take me because I was becoming a Trek fan, but I had only seen TOS and didn't want to see a TNG movie.

First Contact is the only Trek movie I've seen in theaters that I remember (I may have seen Generations or The Undiscovered Country). I would always watch TNG and TOS with my dad, but never really got into it (but I was really young). I remember really wanting to see Insurrection but I think my dad wasn't too keen on the idea for whatever reason. Sadly, my dad isn't really into Star Trek anymore, and never watched DS9, Voyager, or Enterprise.

My dad and I watched Enterprise together until the day it was cancelled. I've been trying to get him to watch the new Battlestar Galactica since he loved the old one, but he never has enough time.
I've seen quite a few sci-fi movies in the theaters, including but not limited to Star Wars episodes 4-6 special editions, Star Wars episodes 1-3, Serenity, War of the Worlds (2005), Men in Black 2, and several Godzilla and Gamera films.

Kaijufan, are you getting Star Trek: Legacy on day one for the 360? I put some credit towards it a couple of weeks ago, so I will. Here's to hoping it's decent. Too bad they're releasing it at the wrong time, hardly anyone's going to buy it even if it gets great reviews.

Right now I am planning on getting Legacy for the 360 when it comes out (hopefully Outpost will have a deal on it). We'll have to play a few games together 2Fast.

Definitely. I'm itching with excitement in regards to what the online play is going to be like, what races will be available, etc.

I know I'll play as the Federation most of the time since I always play as the Federation in Trek games. I'm not sure why, I guess I just like being the humans.

I'm in-between using the Borg and the Federation, but then if I play as the Federation, what ship(s) will I use? There's supposed to be an insane amount of starship classes.

Hopefully online all the classes are pretty balanced so we don't have people only using one or two of all the different ship classes.
My favorite classes are the Akira and the Nebula, so I may be using one of those, but I'm not 100% sure yet.

I was worried about balancing and I wonder how cloaking and Borg cubes will be dealt with. I like the NX-01 Enterprise, Defiant class, Sovereign class, and any variation of the Miranda class; I really hope they have some non-canon ships as well.

After reading up on Legacy some more it seems that only the Federation, Romulans, Klingon, and Borg will be playable. I was really hoping for the inclusion of the Cardassians, Dominion, Breen, and maybe even the Gorn for shits and giggles. Also seems like it's more of an RTS than I originally thought.
Does Voyager ever become better? I'm in the middle of season two and it's becoming a real chore.
In some ways yes, and in some ways no.

Seven of Nine is interesting. Holodoc is almost always fun. Tuvok is reliably watchable.

But, on the whole, what you've got now is what you'll get until the end of the series. Lots of anomaly stories. Virtually no meaningful character growth or change. Lots of incredibly stupid stuff, inconsistencies, lazy writing, and the occasional good episode in a sea of mediocrity and averageness.

What I would suggest is to find a reviewer whose tastes are similar to yours, see how the episode fared, and decide to either watch it or read the entire review and a plot summary instead.

Voyager really didn't care too much about its own continuity or consistency, so you won't miss anything much.

I can think of three review sites:

Get Critical Reviews - Don't always agree with her, but she's insightful and its entertaining (though sad) to see how cynical she gets by season 7.

Jammer's Reviews - Well written. I think he's too nice a lot of the time.

The Cynics Corner - probably the most fun of the three, but doesn't start until season 4

I really want to own these on DVD, but Paramount can suck it if they think they are getting even $30 a season for Voyager. TNG and DS9 absolutely. VOY and ENT no way. I need to find a torrent...

I'd pay for a Voyager collection of the best episodes. If they put all of Voyager's good episodes together into one DVD set -- about the size of a current season set -- and priced it reasonably, I wouldn't mind that.

Otherwise, no way.

Anyone ever play StarFleet Command for PC? One of my bosses always raves about how much fun he had with it way back when, so I was thinking about hunting it down.

I have Starfleet Command 3, and another one (I think it's 2 but I'm not 100% sure). I've only played 3 and it's ok. The single player isn't anything special, but I do enjoy the battles.

Hmm, if you're not adverse to it I'd like to buy Starfleet Command 2 (if that's what you have) off of you, instead of 3 since it's rare. If you have no interest in selling it I'll understand.

I'm tempted to pirate the first one :whistle2:$

Still debating about getting Star Trek: Tactical Assault for the DS, need to see some reviews. I just wish that it wasn't confined to TOS.

I might be willing to do that. I'll think about it.

I can only watch Trek on Friday's now if I am lucky enough to get out of work at 1pm with my new job. Every other day during the week the store closes at 5pm. The upside is that I finally will have some good pay coming my way and I can buy the DVDs. :)

Guile, what do I have to do to get you to take home a nice Xbox 360 today? :D

Some Star Trek: Legacy action would be epic.

Gimmie some money? j/k

That is the one thing I will splurge on in the next few months, and maybe a DS. After that, I am going to be saving cash like crazy. I want to pay off either my truck or credit card by summer of next year. The credit card should be easy to do. The truck will probably take until the end of next year at the earliest if I start doubling my payments.

Either way, Star Trek Legacy is HIGH on my radar and I hope it kicks ass.

I would be playing it next week if they hadn't delayed it until the 21st. Oh well, hopefully it's for the better.

What 360 and DS games do you have your eyes on Guile?

360

Star Trek Legacy
Perfect Dark Zero
DOA4
DOA Xtreme 2
NBA 2K7

DS

Castlevania (both)
Mario Kart
Trauma Center
Phoenix Wright
New Super Mario Bros.

Those are the ones I remember off the top of my head.

Voyager is going to start airing on Spike December 18th. TOS also will start airing on Spike in December. What about Enterprise you ask? Not until 2013.

Cool, at least now I can see Voayger without paying for the DVDs for a bit. I am suprised Enterprise is that far off though.

Anyone else think it is a little strange that Sci-Fi didn't bid their asses off to get the Trek shows on their channel? I believe they had TOS for a bit, but that's it.

I've always thought that was weird as well. I'm not sure who, but someone has the rights to Generations through Nemesis, it could be them. I know Spike has I - VI.

IIRC, I do remember when The Nashville Network became the New TNN they bought rights to TNG for 10 years and that carried over to Spike.

It's a shame about Enterprise, I wonder why they have to wait so long to put in on..? So far I'm literally halfway through Enterprise and I have to say that I love the show. I wish people gave it a chance.

EDIT: After some digging I found out that Spike has the rights to Generations, First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis, but they'll be on with Enterprise in 2013.

I just think it was such a huge departure from the Trek people were familiar with that it was hard for people to get used to it. I know that is one of the reasons I didn't watch it. I'm willing to try it again someday though.

Yeah, the one major thing is at first it doesn't seem much like Star Trek, but It starts to feel more familar after a while. I've found the characters to be very endearing and I think the show is well written. I'd like to buy the DVDs, but my lord they are expensive. They want more for four seasons of Enterprise than they do for seven seasons of all the Next Gen era series.
I wonder if I should pick up Star Trek Encounters? I see where it only got a 4.9 on IGN though.
One of the guys I work with bought it and said it's not bad. It's $14.99 at Best Buy IIRC.

I'm waiting to see reviews for Tactical Assault for DS before I decide to buy it now or wait.
