As much as I love the first Pirates film, I am gonna pass. Regular Blu-ray cover with tacky red border? No thanks.

It wouldn't even be that difficult. Background is a zoom in of rotten wood to look like an old treasure chest. In the middle is a medallion with the Pirates logo on it. Maybe a border resembling the iron framework. Bam, excellent Steelbook.

There's cartwheel target coupons for some  steelbook movie's

Let's be specific next time:

20% off Lawless (exp 01/31/15)

20% off Killing Them Softly (exp 01/31/15)
There's also

10% off Steve Austin 4 disc (exp 1/31/15)

20% off Lords of Salem (1/31/15)

20% off Django Unchained (1/31/15)

For whatever reason they're under Entertainment but not the Movies submenu.

The cartweel coupons are worth less because the steelbook movies are all showing up online only

20% off Django Unchained (1/31/15)

Thanks for finding those extra ones. The first two were released at the same time as Lawless and KTS.

In at Target tonight & it looks like their planogram is setup for only 1 row of Lucy Steelbooks, with 2 rows set for the regular Blu-Ray & 2 rows for the DVD.

Plenty of copies of the Lucy steelbook at my Target this morning. At least 24. There was one row in the media section and two rows in the front by the registers.

I found two locations of the steelbooks, though planogram'd as you described, one row of steelbooks to 2 rows of non-steelbook. One was at the front registers and one was in the main movie section.

For you specifically, MSUHitman, this was the South County store. Probably 4-5 in each location after I took my copy.

Yeah my bad, forgot there would be a section at the front register also. Usually only get the DC ones & have to scour electronics for one so forgot they generally put two rows at the front also.

There's new metalpak movies at least 10 but I only bought 2 of them super8 and Tom cruise war of the worlds they look sweet

I get all of them at Target and with the exception of the DC ones they get only a few of, there's been one set at the registers and one set in the movie section. At least at the South County store.

Only exception to that is the S4 steelbook for Walking Dead which just wasn't out yet when I was at the store.

Ditto. Went close to 7 PM and they had like 20 left.

I think Target greatly estimated the popularity of Lucy.

Oddly, I didn't see any Lucy steelbooks at Target last night. Have to go back tonight so maybe I just missed their display area?
They have the same cover art, so it's hard to tell at a distance. The steelbook does have a red Target sticker on it saying that it's in exclusive packaging, on the lower left corner of the front of the case.

Check the front by the registers, as there's normally one floor display for new releases. Also check back in the main movie section, also on a floorstand for new releases.

Cause it was.

You either ask something that no one would possibly know (what is God eating right now?), or something that would come up first in a Google search (what is today?).

I agree with that, but this time I didn't think it was a bad question actually.  He was wondering if Target pays more for a steelbook than they do the regular version, ie product wise. I have no idea, but I would guess no. The case is more of an incentive to buy the product from the movie company, not Target. I don't know what goes into getting the rights to an exclusive, though.

If you think there's not at least some added cost of getting a licensed Steelbook versus a regular Amaray, I don't know what to say. And exclusivity has to be paid for as well.

So yes, Target probably pays more for the Steelbook versions, but like I said, it's a question no one knows.

Do we not have target works or mangers on CAG so maybe they would know the answer

Yeah but isn't the reg and steelbook ver the same prices and also if they did pay more why do the steelbook ver be on sale

Anyone pickup any of the new Metalpak movies from Target Yet

My guess comes from knowing sports merchandise, so I wouldn't really know. It's probably different. The exclusives or whatever were the exact same everything as the regular, just more of an incentive to rush to the store. If people were there to buy the exclusive and it's gone, more often than not people would settle for the regular since they're already there. They basically rushed to buy a regular version, which may have been put off without the incentive.

I can see Target paying more, but I can also see it as a marketing approach.

This is hypothetical, but say Target gets $5 per Steelbook Lucy sold, and $8 for every normal Lucy sold on release day. They'd still rather get the $5 from the Steelbook than lose the $8 to Best Buy / Walmart / Amazon.

Add that to "I need some Advil, and since I'm here, I'm not going to make a second trip to Walmart."

I live in the US but have no (easy) access to Target. I buy everything from Best Buy (and Amazon). But I love Steelbooks. I made sure I got Lucy from Target.

Even if the profit is $1-$x less on every Lucy Steelbook at Target, they still got a sale from me that would have went to Best Buy, and in some cases I buy releases I never plan to because a Steelbook version comes out.

My day-1 purchases these days are only steelbooks.  I won't pick up a non-steelbook release on day 1 any longer, since far more times than not, it's cheaper than release week.  Only a few exceptions to that rule.

Outside of steelbooks, I think I only pick up Disney/Ghibli movies on release.
That is usually my exception, though sometimes, Disney movies can drop in price after release if they're "2nd tier" Disney movies that aren't the big ones like Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Little Mermaid, etc.

Ghibli movies, with only one real exception I can think of, they're never cheaper than when at release.
