Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info
It only takes 5 or so to unlock Ness.
By the way, they have all the unlock methods on the Dojo too.
Well according to the "official" rules, the game is being played in tournament mode, which doesn't unlock characters. Of course, it seems that some stores aren't following the official rules.

Yeah the rules suck, but I figure why not have some fun while I'm waiting. No harm in trying.
Well 1 stock/1 minute isn't anything exciting.
I haven't played Brawl (as most people haven't, lol) and I'm not really looking forward to using the Wiimote/Nunchuk combo. On my time at home I'll try it out (as I will all the control types), but the lack of option is kinda.. feh.

Again 1 stock/1 minute with controls that you def need to get used to will result in a lot of cheap wins. It would be like starting off the match and just walking straight off the edge.
I'm not really excited about the rules and control type either, but I figure what the hell. It's a free tournament, a brief taste of the game before midnight, and it will make time go by a little quicker. You've got nothing to lose.

The GameStop up here apparently ran out of copies of Brawl for pre-orders this morning. :bomb:

Looks like I'll be giving Meijers a shot at midnight, then. I blame my ride for not being in the city until tonight. :whistle2:k

Best Buy isn't reserving copies right?
I'm going midnight to buy it since CC couldn't take my pre-order for the gift card.

Any other store in your area like a Best Buy or Wal-Mart?
Any other store in your area like a Best Buy or Wal-Mart?
None that are going to be open at midnight...which is ridiculous, because I live in a college town that's got a population of 30,000+ students. :whistle2:?

The only Best Buy in the state that's doing the midnight launch is an hour away, which might be why our three GameStops aren't taking preorders anymore. I'm assuming that's because they burned through their initial shipment already because they're apparently the only option we've got here, but all I know is I don't have a place to get a copy of the game yet.

Meijers is open 24 hours, so the only question there is if they'll actually have the game on the shelves at midnight or not. I have no idea there, unfortunately, so I'll have to try calling the day of.

Got in on the very last, 32nd slot at a local GameStop.

Also, another GS in my area has decided to not allow tourney regs until Saturday. I'm not surprised by the lack of consistency from store to store... typically sloppy of them.

But if they're willing to give away gift cards for whoever is the luckiest player, I'm willing to hang out there a couple hours. Gonna be there for my copy of the game anyways.

Final match of the Nintendo tourney is pretty scary. Take away wavedashing, shffl, DLC... and Sheik is still a combo beast. It's interesting that players can be that nasty less than a month after the JP release... although a lot of Melee technique does carry over.

It's also pretty interesting that a merely competent Lucas player got that far... It seems like Lucas is pretty well-rounded, with all those projectiles and his decent smashes.

Lucas is very scary when he's being controlled by a competent tournament player. I think I might have to rethink my current mindset about Shiek. She seems like she's a lot better than I've been giving her credit for.

Sheik was a bitch in Melee too. Of course the winner of the MA tournament would be playing as her. Whatever.

So I have a regular Gamecube controller but I don't think the cord will reach my new couch.

Obviously Wavebirds are impossible to find and I hate the tiny controllers GS sells. Wal Mart has a Pelican wireless controller

Anyone have experience with this? Worth it for $20 for Brawl?
Is that seriously how Pikachu looks in Brawl ?! That's just stupid.
no, he's been haxored

I seriously cannot believe that that hack works at all. Amazing.

Spend $5 and buy an extension cable from eBay. Those Pelican controllers SUCK.

Or...look around and buy a used Wavebird. I can get a used Gamecube, a Wavebird, and a game or two for a song now on Craigslist.

Already tried everywhere I could think of for a Wavebird but no luck . This was the only wireless controller I could find that wasn't the tiny ones GS sells.

I bought one a while back instead of a Wavebird (big mistake) due to its inclusion of rumble. While the rumble is nice, after a few months the directional stick started acting up, not always recognizing the direction of the stick. So I ended up eventually giving it away to a friend, and buying myself a Wavebird.

My GameStop usually has several used Wavebirds for around $18. I wouldn't mind picking you one up for that + shipping if you're interested.

I would love that, PM'd!

I see a lot of people trashing the Pelican but I have a Pelican G3 wireless GC controller and I can honestly say I like it better than the Wavebird. It has rumble, which is nice, and is solidly built.

This controller could be different than the old model though. I tried to find a new G3 a long time ago and I could never find one again. If I knew for a fact it was the same controller I have, I would say go for it. But if it is a newer model, I can't vouch for it.

EDIT: I looked at the pic of the controller more closely and I can tell that it is a different model. Going from the opinions of the other CAGs you should probably avoid it.
My gamestop isn't doing a midnight launch :/ but they ARE opening the mall an hour early.
The power of Brawl.

Can you save Wii game save data to SD cards?

c'mon ChibiJosh dont kick a fellow while hes down! Just cause we cant play some games at someone's speeds doesn't mean we are n00bs. CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG (and unite against the ISP for fast internet for all muahahahahahaha!)

I think you can. I could have sword I saw pictures with "SD" in the memory area. Not 100% sure though.

Also, I'm not completely upset by the lack of midnight launch. My brother is having a huge birthday party on saturday, so now I don't have to worry about leaving early.

With most games you can. There have been instances of some games where you cannot save the Wii data to an SD card though. You have to do it through the Wii memory management menu though.

Also, the SD stuff within Brawl itself is for saving created stages, screenshots, and stuff like that if I remember correctly.

The thing is, I'm borrowing a Wii to play the game while mine is being fixed by Nintendo.

So I want to make sure I can copy the memory in the Wii menu to the SD card, then transfer it to my original Wii.

It'll let me do that right?

I'm assuming it will work. There is a Brawl save posted on the wiisave website so it looks like it will at least save to an SD card.

It wouldnt let me copy it. It gives me what I assume is the same message for when I try to copy the Internet Channel or the Elebits save on my English Wii.

Its tied to the system. There might be a way to force it, but its not something conventional.

That is what I was afraid of. I think a lot of the WFC-enabled games won't let you save the file to an SD card. Strange that there is a Brawl save on the Wiisave website though - although it might be a stage or something like that.

EDIT: Sorry Dallow, you're going to be out of luck. You can't save to a SD card.
Dallow did you find out about Best Buy and if the games are for sale OR pre-orders?
The BB here had a stack of flyers in the Wii game shelves like it was a game, but they were all pre-order slips.

But I don't know if you're asking dallow about a specific store. In which case ignore me

I havent read the article but what happens if u fill up your 512 on board if u can't save ur game to SD?
Actually, let me try this real fast. I had heard at least once before that it wasnt possible conventionally.
Thanks for confiriming guys.
Argh! I'll just play purely VS matches with my friends until my Wii comes home.
I havent read the article but what happens if u fill up your 512 on board if u can't save ur game to SD?
Then you can't save until you delete something else.

You need to delete some other data if that is the case. It's not like you can save directly to SD in any Wii game in the first place. It just sucks that you can't copy it there to transfer it to another Wii or just have a backup of your save.

Wow that sucks like what if i have alot of wii game saves i gotta delete a save that too me so long to get all the items etc just to play something new?

Well I guess its not that much of a problem only game I own is Wii Sports and I barrowed Mario Galaxy which ill probally buy soon and Smash is this Sat.

Back on topic
As being a n00b to smash I hope I can get tilt down I don't think I can though :whistle2:( What would be the best char to use in the tourney? I hear everyone saying use Ike

I doubt anyone will ever fill up their memory with Wii saves. Those are tiny.

It's the VC games and channels that are the killers.

I like the photo channel but then again i have never used it and I have a xbox 360 I rather just plug in my usb drive to the front of the box can u plug in a usb key to the wii and use it as mem space or at least to pull pictures from? WTH is the SD slot for then really?

Doodz. A friend of mine, might be getting Brawl around 8 PM this Saturday. Yeah it is only 4 hours early, but we get to play it four hours earlier! I can't wait. Enjoy the lines with all the shitty kids! :p

Yes!!!! ROB!! Sakurai revealed him on the DOJO!!! :applause:

SO happy I love Robotic Operating Buddy and Game and Watch!!

What sucks is that frackin Brawl takes up 128 blocks of memory on the wii!!!

Part of it is because of the stage builder stages that are uploaded every day! Grrr.. Nintendo Grr.. with not being able to run stuff off an sd card!!
