Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info

How amazing would it be if in the pre-match screen or afterwards you could see how many people bet on you, or it kept a running count of how many people had bet on you, how many matches you had given people winning bets on, etc.

Why does Nintendo hate the idea of a ranking system? Bah.

Videogame ranking system = Penis contest.

Nintendo = Japanese.

Japanese = Small penis.

Therefore, Nintendo doesn't want to do game rankings because it would show they have a small penis.

American's have big penis.

i'm excited about this, but how many people can view a certain game?

this would be so hot for big tournaments, watch pc chris or m2k on your own tv at home while they play haha

did nobody notice the costume changes?

blue tunic link, purple shoulder samus

daisy-themed peach.....

not exactly amazing, but it looks like I was the first to notice. plus blue link rocks

You know, I'd be a lot more interested in the "watch option" if we could choose to view a HIGH RANKED player. As is, you have no clue what you're getting, however I do appreciate the blind gambling portion. This will be my first Smash Bros. game, have the coins been used in the past to buy extras?

It doesn't have to become a contest it can be a lovely, learning experience for all if only they'd just do it the right way.
this would be so hot for big tournaments, watch pc chris or m2k on your own tv at home while they play haha
again Nintendo's 'paranoia' will ruin it. Because I can almost promise you now there will be no way to select which game you spectate.
This will be my first Smash Bros. game, have the coins been used in the past to buy extras?
pretty much exactly. and only.
The last game let you use coins to buy nostalgia-laden trophies, one of the single greatest time wasters ever.
that's a bloody LIE!!. Clearly you've forgotten about the credits. Only game I've ever played where I've watched the credits over and over again. The credits were a MUCH bigger time waster than trophies. To be honest from what I've heard they're a better representation of what Starfox should be than the last few games.

I'm sorry, but this is typically true. Regardless of the fact that I'm a 6'5" American goon, I've tried to use "regular size" Japanese condoms and it's like putting a tube sock on a watermelon.

PAINFUL and wrong.

Back on topic, there will PROBABLY be a ranked online mode. It just won't be FORCED. So only the people who WANT TO be judged can do so, while other players
AKA: WIMPS
who just want to play for fun can do so also.

Oh wait, it did.

It's possible all matches in brawl will be ranked, and the ranking system will be invisible to users, and just used to by the game to match you will players of similar skill levels when you play with strangers.
Oh, man. You just made me think of SSBM's credits with the Wii's remote. houihaer. ehasorih. asdfoihjasdoifhasdiougfasdoigjasdoigjadegf. !@!(*^@!*&^@*&^!@*&!^*&!^*&!^@*!&^#&%&^$**+++++++++++++?
Quick! someone call a doctor! The Crotch had a near fatal joygasm.
Now they just have to let random watchers "interfere" with the match by using the Wii mote to drop items on the play field.
That would be cool if you were playing with friends, to a certain extent.

That would absolutely suck if people could pop into your online game and do that. I DO NOT want people dropping bombs onto my face constantly while I'm in the middle of a game. I've seen people join a game of Defcon and spam repeatedly just to be a huge jerk. And it worked. You couldn't see any real messages on the chat box. So people had to leave the game.

And then you throw the match so people lose their hard earned coins!

Ice Climbers final smash.

I'm throwing around the idea of importing a Japanese Wii and having the game something like 2 weeks early after express shipping.

That would make for quite the shindig \\:D/

I will come kick your ass.

Do you hear me?

You had better.

'Sides, if you actually want to do this, I could have my friend bring one. He's coming here in December.

Yes. From Japan.

I have no idea how this smash works. But it looks like it will answer my question about how the smash is affected by solo IC.
To quote the good Doctor, "What?"
for some reason in my head i hear the DDR Mario Mix voice over guy when you lose saying "Wha wha wha What!"

I kinda found the training mode to be pretty useless in Melee. StrifeX was telling me to learn canceling I should practice in training mode but w/o someone else to control the opponent it's just really hard to use. On second though the problem isn't the training mode it's the lack of a second person.

Now Soul Calibur II had a GREAT training mode. That's how I became an Ivy beast (on a sub-competive scale)

You know you can set the opponents to do stuff, right? You can have them walk, jump, attack, or be a human player . . .

Yeah, the Smash series' training mode is garbage. Meanwhile games like Soul Caliber and Virtua Fighter have amazing training modes. I guess it's just 'cause SSB is a casual series. Still... Disappointing.
You know you can set the opponents to do stuff, right? You can have them walk, jump, attack, or be a human player . . .
yeah I know and they're all useless except human player. I haven't tried training in years so I forget what ideas I had to make it better. I think what I would like is programable training. Obviously we don't have 'movelists' in Smash like Soul Calibur but if i could program the computer to attack, attack, forward smash. That would be actually useful.

Training mode is not garbage for one pure reason:

you can set the speed to half or slower.

Not only can you see the vast amount of pure animation built into the characters, but it is a total mindfuck when you finally put it back to regular speed.
Yeah, but you could do that for VS matches too.

Yeah, it's crazy going from slow to normal.
Very odd!
It's hard to focus on animations when someone is kicking your ass.

Like, you know, I would be doing to you.

Peach's down smash got nerfed, you betta find a new strategy.

This is the first game in internet history that can finally come close to providing more quality gameplay hours than it does pre-release internet discussion hours. Well done Sakurai and Nintendo.
