Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Gen. Discussion & Info

"By farting? Are you kidding me?!!!"

"Sadly, no. I am not kidding."

That's gold. This is one of my favorite updates so far.

Edit: I can't believe it: Snake really did snap Mario's neck. That's awesome!

Re: Shadow Moses update.

I'm starting to get the impression that brawl will be a LOT more... invasive, In the sense that the action will get interupted by so many stage mechanics more than they were in Melee.

The ! from the searchlights, the warioware stage.. I dunno.

Hopefully its only some niche stages, and not the norm.
Yeah. Gamestops should have tons of GC extension cords for cheap.

If you can't find any, let me know and I'll go look around.
eBay. I got four of them for $5.99, S&H included. They work just fine.
Everyone continues to forget that Mother 3 = GBA.

Which really throws a big wrench into the hopes that it'll hit the VC.
I for one didn't.. and I agree with you. M3 won't hit the VC until they start adding GB/GBA games and i doubt M3 will be the first.. call me when you see Super Mario Land on the VC (preferrably as an optional download to the DS)

I'm wondering if Nintendo will use the Wii Shop channel as a template for the DS2, and offer the same basic thing. Include some amount of memory on their next handheld, and let people download old GB/GBC/GBA games into it.

It's possible, but I don't know if it would ever happen. That's a lot of security issues for them to consider.
I'm starting to get the impression that brawl will be a LOT more... invasive, In the sense that the action will get interupted by so many stage mechanics more than they were in Melee.
As far as I can see there are two types of interference. Passive and Active.

Passive is what the game is all about that's the Pokémon Statium changing to different modes or Zebes where you can break the stage in half. I don't think anyone minds that if not for that we'd all be playing on Final Destination and if I've learned anything it's that tourney level players don't move off FD anyway so it doesn't matter what the other levels are like.

In terms of active interference Melee has a few of those as well which most people didn't like. Poké Floats, Big Blue, Icicle Mountain all kill you if you don't move which I found annoying but MKII, Venom and Coneria all had direct active interference as well and they were fun (well Coneria at least). I'm not to worried about the "!" until they show what exactly it does?. Probably no worse than the Pokemon stage in SSB.
I hope they start producing some wavebirds when this game comes out.
Remember back then when this was the projected gamecube controller shell? I still think it'd be awesome if they made these, though I'd believe they would be heavy as fuck.
REV%20Controller%20shell.png

But I do second more wavebirds (preferably white and maybe a rumble feature, but that's probably asking a lot).

I don't think producing white wavebirds labeled "Wii Compatibile" (for those who don't know it, LOL) would really be so out of the question. Just make it white, have the orange power light be blue..and that's it.

Shit, even put out a wired white GCN controller. Why not?

At the end of the Snake vid, the searchlight hits Snake, but he doesn't freeze at all. The "!" just appears where he was. Yoshi's probably just taunting in the picture. It looks completely harmless.

Maybe Genome soldiers will fly around ala Shy Guys and shoot at you if you stay in the spotlight for too long. If the spotlight stuns you, I'm sure many people will be plenty pissed off.

Snake is awesome, so I love the update. All the codec videos were great; I immaturely snickered whenever the colonel and Snake said "fart". I kinda feel like playing MGS1 again. And it's always cool to see more gameplay footage.

This whole "picksels r impurtnt" thing kinda sheds some light on that dumb rumor about Mr. Game & Watch not being in Brawl for not fitting in well enough.

Every time I load Smash Bros Dojo at 3am, I think "they can't possibly cram any more fan service into this game, they just can't!"

It sucks being wrong at 3am, five days a week.

I've been hoping for a long time that they'd do this. They should put it in the Wii packaging though and just put Gamecube Compatible on it. Or revamp the whole thing with the Z1 and Z2 (I think thats what they are?) from the Classic Controller)

As for the Weds update, I appreciate the 8 bit pixel stuff but part of me wants them to be updated 3D versions.

I thought the same thing at first, but would an updated Excitebike sprite really work? It would just be a motorcycle. It loses its charm updated. It did make me think that this could possibly open the door for sprite versions of some main characters. Alternate versions of Mario, Link and Samus in 2D sprite form?

I don't think that design was ever made by Nintendo. I'm pretty sure IGN or someone drew that up after Nintendo said there would be a classic controller attachment.

I'm starting to worry that Brawl will be more about avoiding as much nostalgia as possible rather than skillfully attacking your enemies

If not King Hippo, then Doc riding his bike across the screen just like the excitebike guys.

This game should be called : Super Smash Brothers: The History of Nintendo
Oh man.

After this, King Hippo better be in this game.
since everyone gushes love for it i feel the need to express that I for one am not the biggest fan of assist trophies.. the poor-man's pokéball. Excitebike even as an assist trophy doesn't intrigue me.
I don't think that design was ever made by Nintendo.
That was never implied. We all know it was some fan design.

As has already been alluded to, there are so many angles they could go with these pixel art assist trophies.

This game is just too much, in a good way...and we've got two months worth of updates left!
Oh man.

Bald Bull too..! Don't forget Bald Bull -- Or Gabby Jay... ... ... Yay!!
Um. Turn items off?
what kind of suggestion is that? items are part of the manic fun of the game. I'm not feeling the good vibes about assist trophies but bet your bottom dollar I'll be keeping them on. Smash w/o items is just boring.

Personally unless i'm teaching someone new I only turn off items that cause huge shifts like Hammer, Warp Star, etc.

Also. Smash without items isn't boring, but it is less fun.
It's more a workout.

Turning items (except for the star and hammer) off ruins the fun.

Hmm ... this is looking pretty good. But I can't imagine it'll be as good as the 64 version. Not after the travesty that was Melee.

Good thing one of my friends is getting a Wii in the next month. I won't mind playing it if I don't have to pay, even if it is disappointing.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather have items off. It just seems less chaotic which seems more fun for me. Meh, must've be all those hours I played with items back on SSB64 or even Powerstone. Shit got damn annoying. It's already reflex for me to punch the person who screams "Pokeballs only, on very high!"

Luckily if any person wants to play pokemon master this time around, all they have to do is choose the Pokemon Trainer. Hopefully there are less games where everyone is getting simultaneously raped by Snorlax, Articuno and mother fucking Beedrils.
Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather have items off. It just seems less chaotic which seems more fun for me.
That's kind of the point.

Very high FTW. Pokeballs only would be great, but I only play the original and there's way too much slowdown when you do that.

Is there a way to overclock the 64? It'd be interesting to play at double speed or so. :whistle2:k

Pokeballs only is for rookies. It's all about only using motion sensors.

Nice update, I think they're scraping the bottom of the barrel now.
