(Part I) The Target clearance thread

This thread is for clearance-- not for sale items. Price reductions for clearance seem to happen on Monday, although not every Monday, but could also occur any day of the week depending on your store's price change team. Target often donates its older clearance titles to Goodwill stores, so keep that in mind when you're trying to find items. BigDirty: "Further reduction is possible when a game's price ends with 8 cents. However, when it ends in 4 cents it will NOT drop anymore. If it ends in 9 cents, it's just on sale or on a non-clearance reduction."

When posting deals, please include game, system, price, city and state. For example:
Debbie Does Skywalker, Xbox 360, $4.98
Mesa, AZ Power Road at Superstition Springs

Here is a fairly easy way to check your local Target's pricing-- often price tags will not be correct. Thanks to BigDirty for this:
1) Go to Half.com or a similar site. Search for the game to locate its UPC code number. It's in the gray box underneath the box art graphic.
2) Go to UPC Data ,Milk.com , or UPC Database and enter the code so you can print out the UPC. Go to Target and use the price scanners to scan your printouts.

Thanks to Mephitical for this tool for locating clearance titles, which is located here. Go to Amazon or Target to find the item's ASIN. When you find it, replace "B000O3IS48" in the URL with your item's ASIN. This will take you to a page asking you for your zip code. Type in your zip code and click enter-- this will display a list of local stores and whether or not they have your item in stock. YMMV on it working properly.

The lowest known price will be posted. The item could be higher or lower at your store.
Target is weird with those "AS-IS" stickers. About a month ago I found (4) $30 giftcards to Shutterfly marked down to $7.48. How the hell could a giftcard be damaged? This past week I saw about 20 cans of Memorex Air Duster on the clearance rack with "AS-IS" stickers on them for about $2 each. Nothing wrong with those either.
I recall someone saying it's because the item's bar code is no longer in the system, so they put "as-is" stickers on with their own bar code and typically a funky price. Not sure if that's really the case, but I often see brand new stuff such as movies and CDs with "as-is" tags.

They did this with the Transformers PC game. Was 20, they dropped a few copies of it to 6.xx as is a MONTH after the game came out. :whee:
But if you went to the PC gaming area, you would find other copies for full price. Bought two, opened it up and the case was still sealed.

i think the "as-is" stickers go over merch that was incorrectly shipped to them. i've noticed it happens with fullscreen DVDs and the 2/$1 generic brand truck stop hanging candy bags that clearly target doesn't carry

Ugh, me wants Civilization The Complete Collection and Guild Wars but i gots no Target! Bah.

Speaking of Guild Wars...would i want the Platinum Edition or GotY Edition if i wanted all of them?

Platinum comes w/ the GOTY edition, and one of the other ones (either Factions or Eye of the North Expansion). Although mine was weird, had all 3 in them. Glitch? Idk. All i know is that it sucks hard. Get WoW instead. Guild Wars may be free monthly, but your really getting what you pay for.

Don't get me wrong I'm glad they do it but it seems odd sometimes. I think you're right. When I bought those gift cards they didn't activate. When my wife went back to the store and spoke with the manager they told her their store didn't carry those cards so there was no sku in the system so they had to put "AS-IS" stickers on them. They figured a customer had bought them from another Target and somehow returned them to that store (although if this was the case how did the computer refund something that it doesn't have a sku for?).

My store has a stack of MX vs ATV: Untamed for the PS3 for $14.98. That's the final drop on that one, right? If so, is it worth it? (I know there's a Pricegrabber rebate too)

They also had a single copy of NBA Ballers: Chosen One for the same price, but I just picked up NBA Street Homecourt in the GS sale and really have no interest in a second basketball game.

Been playing since a year before Prophecies release (open betas).

To each their own. SynGamer, you may like GW more than WoW, or vice-versa. I definitely wouldn't base my opinion on one person who says 'it sucks hard'. I suggest getting a $2 GW 10 hour/14 day demo disc at Gamestop if you're at all serious. Not sure what they've got on the WoW side, is there a way to demo it?

Anyway, hope I didn't stray too far off-topic. Carry-on.

Forgot to mention, I also got Heavenly Sword at $14.98 even though it was still stickered at $41.98. It's worth price checking the game even if it isn't stickered at the price you want.

I've been to 3 Targets and not one of them had any clearance electronics at all. I looked all over the store and couldnt find anything.

Here we go they had one copy of Overlord with a tag as is.

Marked down to $30 from $50, I'll go there tomorrow again if you want me to get it I need a pm before 8am PST tomorrow.

Honestly, Guild Wars felt like a bad Diablo 2. Just buy Diablo 2, its the same game just more content, infact I think you can group with more people in Diablo 2. Thing is, you may not pay a monthly on GW, but they rape you in the ASS with how many addons/expansions/bonus crap they release. I'm just saying I'd heavily advise trying a real game, and by a real game I don't mean WoW, try LOTRO, AOC, something that is NOT NCSoft and NOT WoW. Avoid any filth NCSoft pumps out, its all the same game just reskinned, and WoW is easily the worst MMO out there thanks to its playerbase. Imagine combining the lowest dwellers of the OTT area here and the lowest of low pondscum from 4chan. (note, im not saying ALL of 4chan is that bad, im saying find the WORST part of it.) There is your WoW playerbase.

On-topic, my target fails. Hard. Nothings been on clearance since Heavenly Sword was bought out at 42 bucks a copy. No idea who bought that many as all of em vanished at once, and I don't think my store sends em off/goodwills/etc. em.

Target nearest me had a $14.98 MX Vs ATV for PS3 which I'd not seen the other day.

They also had a load of signs up about not taking the $5 off a Toy or $5 off a $25 purchase web coupons due to "Fraud and Tampering". The signs were up everywhere, I was a bit surprised the $10 off a 360 game one wasn't there as well, maybe we didn't make much of a dent with that one ;)

Don't know if I've said this already in here, but I'm fuckin' annoyed with my closest Target(as usual). I should've never listened to the idiot in electronics there, since they said this district wasn't going to clearance out Heavenly Sword. I went there yesterday to find a big glaring red CLEARANCE placard over the barcode for......you guessed it....Heavenly Sword.

They sold out both remaining copies for $30 each, which I still would've picked it up at, but since I never score @ Target anyway, I figured 'why check?'. Figures.

Especially since I'm out the monthly fee if I decide not to play for a month...I hate to be forced to play X hours per month to make me feel like I got my money's worth. And honestly, no one is going to talk me out of GW. I've been playing for 4+ years. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Can't say one way or the other regarding WoW...haven't ever played it.

I suggest any more GW vs. WoW vs. Other discussion move to the PC forum.

I feel the same way, eugaet. I'd love to play to WoW but can't stomach the monthly fee thing.

Back on topic, has anyone had any luck with the Reverant Wings DS being around still? I'm guessing that would have flown off the shelves.

Here's the thing though, when you play an MMO like WoW, you don't buy / have time for other games. When I played WoW, I didn't buy any other games for about a year. Thats worth 15 dollars a month.

If it's going to monopolize so much of my time that I won't play anything else, that sort of defeats the purpose. A game with no end gets boring after a while, especially one that takes up all of your time in exclusion to everything else.

I checked out one of the local targets and they had a bin of clearance games but they were cleared out. And also, they had a TON of those signs saying they wont accept the 5$ off coupons due to FRAUD, as someone said in a post earlier.

Wow, the clearance racks at both of the Targets near me were almost totally bare. I hope that means they're gearing up for a massive clearance next week.

I saw on of the $5 coupon signs at the pharmacy counter of all places when I stopped to fill a script following a Dr appt today.

For those who can't find Heavenly Sword at Target on clearance, Gamestop has it listed in their weekly specials from the 11th to the 17th. It's $29.99 there. I may end up buying it from there(as long as that's the price for it NEW), since my local Target was cleaned out of the 2 copies they had of it @ $30 each.

EDIT: It's $29.99 on a USED copy of HS, but still if you can find a good/mint used copy, $29.99 is as good as some of us are going to find for a WHILE on this game.

As for the MMO thing, I don't think I could EVER find myself into one of those, since from what I've seen and heard of them, you're pretty constrained on what you can and can't do in them. So, if I decided I wanted to just slay my entire party in WOW, I couldn't do that without alot of hassle. Plus, the monthly fee thing would irk me to no end, since I like ONE set fee for everything.

Puh-lease...

Back in the early 80s, I used to pay $4 per hour to play online games on Compu$erve. Today, games like WoW, AoC, PotBS, etc. charge ~ $15 per month, which equates to ~ 2 cents per hour. In my book, that's a steal.

Not if you're not into the game(s) and from what I've seen of WOW and the like, I wouldn't be interested in them. Same deal with console games really, since the only way I'd be into playing online is if it were free(like on the PS3 for now). Even then though, I'm not a very social person with total strangers over the net, but give me a multi-player game for 2 people to play on the SAME system and I'm there.

My Target had the clearance rack filled to the top. Of course the games were :ps2: Spryo (the latest one) and :ps2: Crash Bandicoot (the latest one I guess) but seriously there was like 200 copies of each..

To me, that's a $15 loss for each month w/o play. I bleed enough money as is w/o having to worry about making sure I play X number of hours in WoW a month to make me feel like I got my money's worth. Monthly fee = forced play = not fun. I would resent WoW more and more every time that monthly fee hit.

Now, have I spent a ton of money on GW? Yeah, I have. But I wasn't required to do so to play the game, it was my choice.

Actually, I can't recall how the CompuServe billing structure worked...we didn't have it and I was to young to purchase such services on my own. :) Was CompuServe a monthly fee or a per hour used fee?

I had to look at the title of the thread to remind me what the actual topic used to be, we've gone so far OT. :D

Do it the easy way, pay for a month then cancel it immediately, it'll last til end of month since its paid but you don't have to worry about forgetting to cancel then. =P

I'm the same way.

Also my Targets selections are very tiny.
Hope for some good news come Monday.

Also some more, my Target never had FFXII:RW.

Found 10+ copies of Heavenly Sword for $15. Dunno if I should go hoard them all up and sell them for profit. I've never done such a thing and don't even own a PS3, but the prospect of making some quick money is too tempting.

Which location? City? State?

Picked up Heavenly Sword for $14.98 this week. Other than that, the clearance shelves were pretty much barren at the two Targets I went to. I have a feeling we may be in for an extended game clearance drought, at least through the end of the summer. I hope I'm wrong...

I don't know how hard these are to find or if anyone is looking for one but the Target near Metro North Mall had a Metal Gear Solid PS3 bundle in stock as of early this afternoon.

I know I haven't seen very many of them since they were released.

Why don't you buy them up and sell/trade to other CAGs? I'm sure people would appreciate it (me being one of them, since I can not find it in my area).

I think he did say that he picked them all up...

Heavenly Sword will drop down $29.99 around August or September with Folklore, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance: Fall of Men, Warhawk, and uncharted.

Henrietta, NY Target is pretty crappy these days. All I could find on clearance were some Tony Hawk's Proving Grounds' for $19.87, down $30 from $47.99 a few weeks ago and a bunch of DS, PS2, and Gamecube games. Bah.

You can always pick a few extra copies for those of us who couldn't find it in their areas ;)

I searched a few stores in my area and none had it

I picked up Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol for $24.98 at TRU yesterday. They still had another copy, but my policy is always to take one and leave the rest.

There was also a copy of Heavenly Sword last weekend, but it was no where to be found this weekend. My guess is that it finally dropped to $15 and was promptly snatched up. I don't mind too much since I already picked it up for $30 last month.

As for the Greatest Hits line, will those prices affect the old SKUs as well?

Probably, Motorstorm will likely be restocked at $29.99. At least that is what has happened with clearance games becoming Greatest Hits in the past. I don't understand why Target does that. I wouldn't bother restocking Motorstorm as a Greatest Hit if I previously sold the non Greatest Hits version and it didn't sell that well for $15.

I mentioned this before, but I think it was deleted due to being off topic or whatever, but here goes. Gamestop has Heavenly Sword for $29.99 this week as their USED special of the week.

So, if you can't find it at Target for $15-30, you can always grab it from GS for $30(or LESS if you get them to use the current 25% off ANY used PS3 game coupon AND the EDGE 10% discount). Besides which, even if some had copies of HS @ their Targets and picked them up for CAGs, after shipping and maybe a bit for time/trouble, you're close to the used special price @ GS anyway.
