(Part I) The Target clearance thread

This thread is for clearance-- not for sale items. Price reductions for clearance seem to happen on Monday, although not every Monday, but could also occur any day of the week depending on your store's price change team. Target often donates its older clearance titles to Goodwill stores, so keep that in mind when you're trying to find items. BigDirty: "Further reduction is possible when a game's price ends with 8 cents. However, when it ends in 4 cents it will NOT drop anymore. If it ends in 9 cents, it's just on sale or on a non-clearance reduction."

When posting deals, please include game, system, price, city and state. For example:
Debbie Does Skywalker, Xbox 360, $4.98
Mesa, AZ Power Road at Superstition Springs

Here is a fairly easy way to check your local Target's pricing-- often price tags will not be correct. Thanks to BigDirty for this:
1) Go to Half.com or a similar site. Search for the game to locate its UPC code number. It's in the gray box underneath the box art graphic.
2) Go to UPC Data ,Milk.com , or UPC Database and enter the code so you can print out the UPC. Go to Target and use the price scanners to scan your printouts.

Thanks to Mephitical for this tool for locating clearance titles, which is located here. Go to Amazon or Target to find the item's ASIN. When you find it, replace "B000O3IS48" in the URL with your item's ASIN. This will take you to a page asking you for your zip code. Type in your zip code and click enter-- this will display a list of local stores and whether or not they have your item in stock. YMMV on it working properly.

The lowest known price will be posted. The item could be higher or lower at your store.

This is a first for my store actually. I've never seen it this big. I'd pick up a copy if it would hit low enough.

Maybe Target reduces those big box items ...like Madden Collector's Edition...something to keep an eye on.

Found Bully Wii priced at $14.98. I thought the MSRP for the Wii version was $49.99? The sticker had the original price at $29.99. I thought that maybe it was a mistake and that they had priced it as the 360 version but when scanned it was $14.98. Hoping to get it at 75% off ($7.48). Also, saw New Int Track & Field DS priced at $20.98 and DBZ: Budokai 3 PS2 at $7.48.

I got my Bully wii at $14.98 too and wondered the same thing. I couldn't wait for another drop, and I'm glad I didn't - it is a really good game.

Quick question, how much are the Kane and Lynch 360 copies? And where is this Target located?

Beijing Olympics PS3, Bourne PS3, Scene it 360 and a few others still at 41.98
Simpsons, Battle of the Bands, K&L still at 20.98
ImagineZ Babies NDS for 12.98 (I had to lol at this game).

DDR Supernova 2 bundle: 14.98 for the ps2 (I plan on picking one of these up).

I did pick up the only copy of Deal or No Deal for the NDS for 1.48.

Read the review of Deal or No Deal on IGN before you decide if you want it even for $1.48. The million dollar case is the same case every time you turn the game on.

Haha that is awesome. I can be the best at a game designed around luck.

It is listed on gamestop.com for 19.99 used... so if it is too bad.. then it will just end up as trade fodder. Now I just gotta find my DS to test it out ^_^

Went to try and score a copy of Bully 360 for $7.50; it was still $14.99. However, don't think I've seen this posted before: Condemned 2 was $19.99. I'd already played and sold it, but that's a good price for it (I didn't like it as much as Condemned 1).

The 50+ copies of Madden 08 for PS2 finally hit $4.98 (with a scattered few $12.48 Wii versions) at my local Target. Shame they don't have any 360 copies. Sadly, not much else.

Will the DDR Supernova 2 mat work with PS3?

Stopped at Target and to my surprise sitting right on the endcap was Zelda Twilight Princess (gcn) for $12.xx. Yoink! Kane and Lynch (ps3) finally dropped to 9.xx but i let it go for now. This is at the Bay Shore, NY store.

excellent usage of yoink... kudos sir

I wish Target had a product tracker with these games. It seems you can check store availability on some games but not these clearance games. I hate calling stores buecause I'm almost sure most of the time the clerk doesn't even look.
I'd really love to snag Dark Sector (PS3) and Metroid 3 (Wii). I did luck out and get Bully (360) last week for $14.98.

Hmmm, funny. The update shows Kane and Lynch as 24.98 and The Club as 19.98. I could have sworn I saw these reversed at my local Target from work (Vernon Hills, IL). They had a few of each if anyone is interested and some Scene It's left too.

Is Kane and Lynch $20 material for a backlog or should I wait until I can find it really cheap?

Not every time. There are a few cases which have the million dollars in the first game you play when you turn on the game, usually 8 or 21. It sure as heck isn't random for that first game.

Anybody see GTA 4 going for $45 like Madden, my store has it at $62. They used to start everything off at 50% but lately my store has been starting at both 50% and 30%.

Grabbed it for $9.98 [PS3] seems to be a good price for it .
All of the above varies from store to store. When I spoke with the guy in electronics today he told me that "they" (I assume management?) comes through on Monday or Tuesday and does the markdowns by department.
So I have to ask this again. Does this happen weekly or does it depend on the item?

Bully :wii: had a universal price drop to $29.99 last month or maybe earlier. Target didn't bother to reprice since it began to clearance them around the same time. My Target had copies on clearance for $24.98 that were snatched up within a week because buyers thought it was 50% off of the old price of $49.99 - a great deal.

Singstar 90's game only 20.98 (PS2)
Smackdown/Raw 2008 & MLB 2K8 both dropped to 19.98 (PS3)
Guitar Hero Dual Pack 29.98 (PS2)

um, you've been around these forums for 2 plus years and you haven't picked up one of the cardinal rules of finding deals? DO NOT CALL. DO NOT CALL. DO NOT CALL.

for those of you who are uninformed here is the reason you don't EVER call a store about deals. imagine if ravens52bears54 calls his/her local target and asks "hey, is Metroid 3 in stock?" a dutiful target employee goes and searches through their store really quick {or looks on the in house computer, etc.} and sees the price listed as 9.98 {or some other really low number}. the employee eyes the last two copies, realizes they'll make great gifts, has a wii themselves, etc. etc., gets back on the phone, and tells you they're "all sold out, sorry." then on their next break or when they're off shift THEY buy the game for the low low price.

calling a store to ask about a deal is considered breaking a cardinal rule on almost every single deal talking forum/site on the net. i repeat again, DO NOT CALL.

With the price of gas, I'm having a hard time agreeing with you, willow_twf. I made a call yesterday to see if there was a copy of FFCC:RoF in stock for the reported $9.98. Turns out there was one left and they held it for me until I could get there.

I can't afford to not call.

thank you for being the ONE exception to this rule. for every one person who calls and gets something held for them there are 99 cases where a person calls and ruins the deals for everyone else {due to alerting the employees to a deal and/or price mistake}. - and just because they told you there was one copy left doesn't mean there weren't 3 and they bought two of them.

if you can't afford to drive to target i would suggest not buying any more games at all and instead using that money to buy gas or pay for your long distance phone plan.

Me too. I check the Target inventory when possible and if it is Available and not Limited or OOS then I call and get someone to type in the DCPI. If it's five minutes away then I check but if it's 30 then I'm calling. I will also skip calling if it is a super good deal, like a penny guide.

From the OP...
this tool for locating clearance titles, which is located here.

It works - I used it again today to track down another Boogie for Wii. It was still stuck at $19.98, but it worked.

As far as the calling goes, if you don't want to waste gas or time (yes, your time is worth something!), just call. The DO NOT EVER CALL paranoia is generally wishful thinking from these deals forums. Seriously, the clerk at Customer Service or Even electronics does not want your crappy clearance game. The electronics clerks have to stock and straighten that area all the time - they get anything they want before you ever thought to call.

Sweet pick ups at my Target.

:ds:Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates - $9.98
:ps2:Buzz - $9.98
:ps2:Buzz Junior - $9.98
:ps3:Unreal Tournament III - $19.98
:360:The Club - $24.98
:ps3:Madden 09 CE - $44.98

Anyone know if FFTA2 has follow suit with dropping in price with the other DS games?

I've called before, as well. I called the Decatur Target (about 30+ min drive) back when I was trying to find Heavenly Sword (still am, actually; need the 20 deal). I could tell the lady was older, and adjusted my tone accordingly. She checked the glass, and didn't see it. Then she went and checked the endcap, and told me it was on clearance for $30, and asked if I'd like her to hold it for me. I told her I wasn't sure if I was going to drive that far and still pay $30. Then she told me what all PS3 games (and I mean each one they had) they had on clearance, as well as their prices (mind you, I didn't ask her to do this). I wasn't looking for any of the other titles, and money wasn't flowing enough to warrant spending $30+tax+lotta gas.

In general, it's still a good idea *not* to call, but if your people skills are sharp, and you know you get someone that's not shady, it can go well.

Call, ask for electronics, and if anybody other than a sweet old lady who probably knows nothing about videogames answers the phone, hang up :p

Are you kidding me?! I can afford gas and I call! Who gives a crap?! I can't believe you're telling this person to stop buying games and buy gas instead. Maybe the majority of the time the employee does snap up the games but telling a person not to call is ridiculous. Just tell them if they call that YMMV and in general it's not a good idea. It seems to me that anyone who works at target AND likes video games would constantly be checking out the clearance rack. I'm wondering how many calls actually alert employees. Seems to me they would already know.

I usually just take the chance and make a trip, but if the store is further out I will call. On a few occasions I purchased $5 games at Kmart, and the clerk's eyes lit up in shock when he/she scanned the item. There were still copies of the game left in the glass case, and those same games were still in the case the following week when I returned to buy them. I see your concern, but at the same time believe you're overreacting. If the clerk is a gamer/deal buying gift giver as you worry, then I guarantee you they already know what they have on clearance and what the prices are. You would never have a shot at snagging a game beause they'd be on top of it the moment the moment the price dropped. Think about it.
Anyone still see Resident Evil Umbrealla Chronicles out their? and if so how much
It was still 24.98 last week when I checked my hidden copy. I went to look for it again yesterday and it was gone. I had it behind some Curious George Dvds in the kids movies section because they have a white case like the Wii games. I went back yesterday and the copy I had been hiding for about 3 weeks was gone. Damn! Eventually it would have dropped to $14.98.

Not entirely true. If you hid the final copy, it would just be listed as out of system instead of continuing to drop in price.

At Target, probably. At places like Toys 'R' Us or Circuit City, where they never bother stocking or straightening anything, I doubt it. :D
