(Part I) The Target clearance thread

This thread is for clearance-- not for sale items. Price reductions for clearance seem to happen on Monday, although not every Monday, but could also occur any day of the week depending on your store's price change team. Target often donates its older clearance titles to Goodwill stores, so keep that in mind when you're trying to find items. BigDirty: "Further reduction is possible when a game's price ends with 8 cents. However, when it ends in 4 cents it will NOT drop anymore. If it ends in 9 cents, it's just on sale or on a non-clearance reduction."

When posting deals, please include game, system, price, city and state. For example:
Debbie Does Skywalker, Xbox 360, $4.98
Mesa, AZ Power Road at Superstition Springs

Here is a fairly easy way to check your local Target's pricing-- often price tags will not be correct. Thanks to BigDirty for this:
1) Go to Half.com or a similar site. Search for the game to locate its UPC code number. It's in the gray box underneath the box art graphic.
2) Go to UPC Data ,Milk.com , or UPC Database and enter the code so you can print out the UPC. Go to Target and use the price scanners to scan your printouts.

Thanks to Mephitical for this tool for locating clearance titles, which is located here. Go to Amazon or Target to find the item's ASIN. When you find it, replace "B000O3IS48" in the URL with your item's ASIN. This will take you to a page asking you for your zip code. Type in your zip code and click enter-- this will display a list of local stores and whether or not they have your item in stock. YMMV on it working properly.

The lowest known price will be posted. The item could be higher or lower at your store.

this tool for locating clearance titles, which is located here.

It works - I used it again today to track down another Boogie for Wii. It was still stuck at $19.98, but it worked.

As far as the calling goes, if you don't want to waste gas or time (yes, your time is worth something!), just call. The DO NOT EVER CALL paranoia is generally wishful thinking from these deals forums. Seriously, the clerk at Customer Service or Even electronics does not want your crappy clearance game. The electronics clerks have to stock and straighten that area all the time - they get anything they want before you ever thought to call.
I agree with wii skiier. Remember, while the ASIN codes on the internet are pretty consistent, it's the location codes (DPCI's) that are usually different on the website vs. what they are in the store. It's as if Target treats the web item and the B&M item as completely different animals, and it kills using the site for finding in-stock items. Anecdotally it seems to affect the PS3 games the most. I have confirmed myself many times games the website indicated were out of stock, only to see them on the shelf in the store.

Just call. Gas prices kill any good deal if you have to drive across the city.
Sweet pick ups at my Target.

Anyone know if FFTA2 has follow suit with dropping in price with the other DS games?
I got it at my Target a week ago for 19.98. It was the last copy.
Not entirely true. If you hid the final copy, it would just be listed as out of system instead of continuing to drop in price.
Thats not entirely true either. I had the final copy of the 360 3 pack hidden and it did drop on its own one time before it went out of system. Unless one of the clerks had one hidden in the back cause there was not one on the shelf.

As far as I know, it's not true at all - to a point. Hiding the last copy will keep the item in the system, so when the drop happens the price will auto-apply. Employees don't need to scan or sticker the game for the price to drop. I have confirmed this on at least three games I have hidden and retreived later by scanning a printed UPC occassionaly for price. The scan results also show how many copies of the item are left in the store.

The only risk is hiding something too long - then it will go out of system and assumed to be loss. This can be good or bad, depending on the clerk you ultimately try to purchase the out-of-system game from.

Picked up Ninja Gaiden Sword ($8.74) DS -- Kane & Lynch and Dark Sector ( both $9.98 and both PS3) and Madden 08 ($4.98) PSP

The Price Change Team Leader can approve price drops without scanning the item but there is a process to do this. It is not always in the best interest to just "approve" those changes because it can negatively affect the Team's performance numbers.
You're taking a risk hiding items. You're particular Target just doesn't seem to care. Depending on your point of view, you're either extremely lucky or a prick for hiding stuff. Personally I don't care. I choose not to hide stuff because I disagree with it but not everyone is going to be as lucky as you've been.

I've had employees only grab 1 copy of a game multiple times, when I specifically asked for 2 copies. Some clerks do want games, others don't. Your Target's employees may not care, others might. Calling can upset the apple cart but will it always do that? Of course not. YMMV as with any deal posted just about anywhere (for any number of reasons).

You guys don't have to hide anything, just buy it. When I see something on clearance at 50% off and I know I want it I buy two copies. I keep checking the price the next few weeks to wait for it to drop to 75%. Then I return the extra copy early in the morning and come back in a few hours and rebuy it once they put it back on the shelf. Then use that copy and return with the first copy's receipt. Worse case, somebody else grabs it before I do and I keep the other at 50% off but this never happens as I remove the clearance tag and they are always to lazy to retag before they restock it. Best case, I can get two copies at 75% off if I rebuy the second return. I've even bought things at one store that were at 30% or 50% and returned, rebought at another store that is at 75%. I guess this is only problematic if your local store is far away...mine is on the way to work. I've even figured out which CSR girls will let me return and rebuy by just bringing in a receipt whichs makes this even easier. And printing out a sheet with all the UPC codes of the stuff you want to check makes checking prices faster rather than typing in a list of DCPI #'s.

well I'm not entirely sure I follow the flow but i saw Manhunt 2:wii: at Target once that was hidden in some CDs. it was supposed to be on clearance for $10 but the guy wouldn't sell it to me. So becareful when you hide.

That is waaay too much effort to just save a few bucks. :D
Hahah, I was thinking the same...
It's not really that much effort if you're going to go to the Target on a regular basis to check on prices. You're already there. What's adding a return going do?
I bought a copy of Grid at $41 because I think it's a fair price and I want a copy. I'm keeping it sealed though until the Target's I visit are out of Grid or the price drops. At that time I'll just return my first copy during a routine clearance check and rebuy a new copy.

Just picked up a copy of Kane and Lynch PS3 for $9.98. They also had a copy of Kingdom Under Fire Circle of Doom for $19.98. I thought I remember reading that people were snagging this for $10 or less quite some time ago? Makes me wonder if the game was uncovered from some hiding spot and tossed back on the shelf without an updated price? I probably should've had it scanned.

I too just picked up a copy of Kane and Lynch for PS3 for $9.98.

They also had NBA Live 08 for $9.98, MLB 2K8 for $19.98, and Smackdown Vs. Raw 2008 for $19.98. All for PS3.

Yeah this is what I do, I buy it at a price i think is reasonable and play the game or use whatever the heck i just bought and just keep the receipt. if later on i see it cheaper, i buy it again and just return that copy later with the old receipt.

Does that still work? Last time i checked, Targets return policy had gotten kind of shady.

went to another Target mostly sports junkies left they had about 5 wiis in stock 2 ladies came in and bought 4 a few mins later.

hmmmm come to think of it, it has been close to 6 months since i last did this, so it might no longer work.

Blast works is STILL 27.98 at my target, I confirmed it by scanning the item today at one of the scanners so it wasn't just a incorrectly stickered item. I really don't know whats up with that as normal retail price for this game is 19.99.

Thanks man! Although it doesn't look like any stores around me at all have either of the games I want. Boo. But I'm not sure how accurate it is either. I went into a Target today that had several copies of Nights for Wii and I just checked that link and it's showing 'Not Available' at that particular store.

And not to sound like a complete noob again, but what does YMMV mean?
what does YMMV mean?
Your Mileage May Vary = the deal may not be the same everywhere.

In this case, not all Target's do their markdowns on the same day.

My Target lags so far behind on markdowns, if anything even lasts that long. I wish I could get Nights for 7.49. It's still $24.99 or so here and they only have one left. It's hard to justify that when it's $29.99 regular price every where else.

Did you know it is on clearance for $10 at K-mart? If you haven't looked there then check it out.

Found Blast Works for the Wii at the San Bruno, CA Target for $13.98, ended up getting a copy and there was one more left. Now that I think about it, I should have picked up the other one for a CAG that wanted one.

I didn't know that. I'll try and swing by there and see if they have it. Thanks for the tip.
Is UT3 for ps3 worth getting for 20?
I think so. I bought it when it first came out for $60, LOL. I haven't had much chance to play it because I have so many games but I've heard there have been quite a few mods created for it which gives the game near unlimited playability.

It's a very fast paced shooter.

Thanks for clearing that up.:D

I don't know how all this stuff works here with this community but if someone could find Dark Sector (PS3) and Metroid 3 (Wii) I would obviously pay more than fair shipping if you could send them to me.

Exton, PA

Picked up the last The Darkness - 360 for $9.99 and the last Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword - DS for $8.74 for fellow CAGS. They were behind the glass, and not on the endcap as they usually are.

I do the same thing. If I try to wait out the 75% I enevitably lose the deal to someone else sniping it. This is especially painful if it's something I really want to play.
hmmmm come to think of it, it has been close to 6 months since i last did this, so it might no longer work.
Not to double post, but I did this with Bully for 360 just this week. No problemo.
Is UT3 for ps3 worth getting for 20?
I picked it up last week, and think it is. If you're looking for a fast paced fps, it'll certainly fit the bill. There's also a CAG night too, usually on Monday's at 9pm but we're also playing tonight.

I don't see how rebuying and returning with an old receipt would be a problem as long as both of the items had the same UPC and the receipt was not expired yet. You would just have to remove the sticker from the item and if they questioned why it was gone you could just say it was a gift they didn't want.

I know this is not a "game" but my local target has TONS of 2 pack Duracell Batteries for a quarter. That is 8 batteries for a buck! The batteries were AA.

Finally Kane & Lynch dropped at my store for $9.98. Yesterday it was still $19.98 they had about 10 copies. Today they had only one left.

My store had 1 copy at $19 and I passed. It's long gone. Sad. :whistle2:(

it sucks that my target(s) does not make it to $7.xx for most games these days. people are buying them at $14.98 at all the stores. i still have about 1 store with ninja gaiden ds that still haven't clearanced them out.

Most of the games at my Target never make it under $20 before disappearing. Someone locally is either insane or stupid--- or both. There are very few games that make it into the sweet deal range anymore, but TONS that get clearanced.

Are they the ones that are actually stupid? Because it looks like they are the ones getting the games. $20 for a $60 is pretty damn sweet.

Sometimes I think some of you guys just wait too long.

My only problem is that when I see games get really cheap, in the $15 or $10 range, I refuse to pay more than that even if I can't find the game. Just knowing that it's cheaper somewhere, in some far away Target, kills me.

Months ago, The Bee Movie Game moved from the shelves at $35 at my store. The Simpsons Game clearanced at $25 when it was $20 everywhere else--- sold too. NBA2K8 for $35 has dwindled, which is awesome since in a month the game is worthless.

Kane & Lynch (which is old and is about to be $19 MSRP) for $20 is not a "deal." I picked up Bully for $15, but I have a large backlog as it is and justifying over $25 on some sports game or old game that I may not get to before it drops EVERYWHERE doesn't work. I'd like Kane & Lynch but it's not the end of the world waiting to get it at a nicer price point than $20.

Also -- What $60 game are you getting for $20? Kane & Lynch is by no stretch of the imagination a "$60 game" (the one I talked about). Getting last years sports game right before the new one comes out --- also not a deal. Lost Odyssey dropped to $41.XX on clearance and that's not a deal either, especially when you can walk into any other store and get it new for $39.99.

The Target clearance deals are a fun hunt, but it's not the end of the world if I don't get the game at the price. $15 for MOST non-sports games is my price point at Target. If I miss out, oh well.

And hey--- there's Kane & Lynch for $10 at Target and it's also showed up at other locations in that range. Looks like I made the right call.

Thanks for calling me and others "stupid", btw.

Same to you, bud. Same to you. Just because your value system puts a game at certain level doesn't me everyone else has to do the same.

I love you too.

And hey, I didn't quote anyone or call anyone *HERE* stupid for their practices. My comment was directed at the fact that my Target store seldom has good deals as the games are sold before they're even real deals--- so way to quote out of context. The poster who responded to me VERY DIRECTLY called myself and others "stupid" since the person who bought the game ended up getting the game and we didn't.

Also, as a CAG--- if you're dropping $35 on The Bee Movie Game--- you're probably on the wrong site.

Found a copy of Ninja Gaiden DS for $8.98. Traded it in to GS for $21.00 w/Cellfire deal.
If I were to find another copy I'd probably keep it, as I recall the demo being pretty fun.
