Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: More POG games (disc-only used games sold for $9.99) sighted at stores week of Nov 9th
Many CAGs have reported finding new shipments of POG games (prepacked previously owned games) showing up on Nov 10th-12th. This is YMMV as many stores will not get them. But if they do, they are usually in clear cases, disc-only, and are priced at $9.99. Some notables include Call of Duty World at War, CoD Modern Warfare, Halo 3, Halo Wars, etc. It appears to be all 360 games this time. These are disc-only refurbs but are usually in excellent shape. Note that these all have the same barcode that rings up $9.99 - if you find the same games with regular cover art and specific bar codes for that used game, then they are not part of this POG stock and will be regular prices (generally way over $9.99 for the newer titles).

ALERT: B1G1 NOW OVER (but possibly returning in late November)
The latest Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale on games $14.99 has ended. The following list of $14.99 and under used games will be maintained for the next sale though. It seems highly likely from various reports that a B1G1 sale will be returning some time in late November. Some are even a decent buy without the B1G1 sale:

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Where is a good place to get a cheap xbox live internet adpater? Headset? Harddrive? and XBOX Live Year Subscription? if you just bought the core system
Not blockbuster video.
How does BlockBuster return/exchange policy work on videogames? I got a USED copy of GTA4 and I don't really want it anymore. Is there a way I can return it or perhaps exchange it for something? or perhaps am I just stuck with it. BTW, it hasn't been 30 days since I bought it.
On used stuff they will probably only take a return if it is defective and they don't have any more of that game to replace it with. Sorry to say you are probably stuck wiht it, but you might be able to eBay it for at least as much as you paid for it if you're into that sort of thing.

Edit: D'oh, that's what I get for not hitting refresh - someone else answers first.
If it's defective you can return it for the same thing (or if lucky, something else or if really lucky, your money back; I've experienced all of these outcomes with defective GTA IV's). You may want to scout a store to make sure they don't have any extras.
So I don't have to bring it back to the store I bought it from then, right? If so, I am going to go to my BlockBuster that is right next to my house. Last time I check, they didn't have any USED GTA4 left. Only had rental copies.

My stores have been pretty nice about that, but you may experience otherwise. If it's a franchise store, the odds of you being able to pull it off are less (in my mind).

Back with more silly/lazy questions.
If you have a store "next door".
Take the game back to them with the receipt and see what they say. You'll have your answer in less than 5 minutes.
and/or use the search function for the thread and type in return.

Unfortunately for me, my very first flipping attempt was hindered by the recent TIV slaying at BBV. Wish I would've found out about CAG sooner, then maybe I would have truly appreciated Blockbuster. ;D
Not only the bad TIVs, but also no Edge (or similar program) and they don't run weekly specials and promos like GS.

So even if BBV does give you a dollar or 2 more on most games, it's really worth more at GS with promos usually. Add that to having better options to spend your credit on, there's not much of a reason to trade into BBV at all.
When I was comparing the 2 I meant trade in wise. Anything else like discount wise BB will never be good at. That was always the problem with BB they never had good deals back to back.

Quick heads up for any CAG's in the Edwardsville(PA) area:

I was down there yesterday and they had 3-4 of the clearance games left in stock, which included at least:

1 copy of Lost Odyssey for $27.99 or so(this was resealed with a heat gun or something, since it didn't have the typical factory seal on it)

1 copy of UT3 for $10

FWIW, like Blue Dragon before it, I've never seen a LO that has been sealed normally. There's something about multiple disc games that make them use shrinkwrap (LO has 4 discs!).

As for BBV, who knows when I'll even get back there to see what they have left...

FYI - Its possible Blockbuster will file Chapter 11 on May 11th...so your gift cards may be worth $0 very soon. I'd advise buying something, even if you can return it later, so you don't lose your monies!

That said, the value of the gift cards may not be immediately impacted by the filing of the bankruptcy petition.

This article is dated 4.7.09 so maybe that is what the poster was talking about?

Oh noes!!?!?!?! I'd better spend my remaining .07 in BBV credit before it's gone forever.

I should just hand the people at the counter my value card with the piddily amount left on it and be done with it.

EDIT: Actually, I just remembered they didn't wanna give me a cash refund on the copy of Turning Point I bought for PS3 and they dumped the $21 something on my account and I have a whole $2 left of that after buying Condemned 2. That's BIG monies right there, I best get to spending.

Yeah...just a precaution.

I think for gift cards you can cash out anything less than $10. Maybe you can do this with value cards, or can you simply buy a gift card with the value card? I doubt it, but thought I'd offer the idea.

Many employee's have heard this date as 'something happening'. Currently stores are dumping almost all New game inventory, almost all new Blu-ray inventory, their candy order did not come in (which is typically the same day each week for the past several years), studios are cutting back sending them rentals since they owe them so much...and the list grows and grows.

That is part of it yes. They (BB) was planning on introducing a new pricing scheme (like Redbox, late fees return) but it was canceled at the last minute - literally. New uniforms were planned and they have been delayed over and over. I'd say if they don't fill C11 they will cut back on 1/5 of their stores right away.

I say Blockbuster call it a wrap. Maybe close their BM locations and only try to do something like Redbox or Netflix. They still have a strong brand name.

I wonder, given their money problems, if we'll see a B1G1 very soon... maybe with the 14.99 or under restriction lifted. Now that'd be nice.

Not sure where you are but the blockbuster stores around here in Kansas City introduced a new pricing schem about 1 or 2 months ago. 1 dollar for the favorites in the middle. 2.50 for the new releases for 1 night. You can pay more for a week rental also. 2.50 for games also for 1 night. 1 after. I think it is $5 per week for a game also.

Is that the scheme you are talking about?

Wow Jesus hell how do you let that much damn debt pile up and not expect the bottom to eventually fall out on you? The damn Banks/Creditors obviously screw over companies as much as they do homeowners seeing they kept giving credit knowing the company has no way in hell to ever pay that back....

Well I guess the mortage crisis has seemed to bottom out somewhat so are we now front and center to watch the Business crisis erupt?

This is just nuts and frustrating as hell seeing a company knows that they are digging a hole that deep yet they expand everywhere and before you know it you have hundreds or even thousands of people working for the corporation that may be now out of work very soon....

Wow I guess the business leaders of today are setting the bar way low for tomorrows next big tycoons... milk it till its dry, it was fun while it lasted... :bomb:

Yep. Except it was going to be every stores, not just select test markets.

Wow I guess the business leaders of today are setting the bar way low for tomorrows next big tycoons... milk it till its dry, it was fun while it lasted... :bomb:
You ever wonder Blockbusters "picked" Blu-ray? Every wonder why they have a Sony LCD, Sony PS3 and favored Sony Video game products even when the 360/wii/DS was outselling them? "Sure, we'll waive some of the debt you owe us and send you rental copies but you gotta scratch our backs". Dating back to 2003, Universal was not sending BB enough copies of new releases because they owed so much back money to them. Studios are pretty pissed off right now.

I don't know if it was noted earlier in the thread, but the Gamerush website is gone, it redirects to Blockbuster site (even worse news?)
Yep. Except it was going to be every stores, not just select test markets.

Must be in your area because in my areas the new game and rental section for PS3 is sad and the LCD Tv's for the most part are Generics and the Stand alone DVD or BR players are usually Phillips DVD or Sharp BR players...

Blockbuster will be missed. I wonder what level of store clearance it will take for people to buy all the Eye of Judgments with no cameras. :)

I can't wait til Blockbuster closes. One of my local ones closed here (they were a franchise store that didn't sell new games) and I got some good deals on DVDs. If I can get some of the GC/PS2 games that a lot of the stores have around here on the cheap, I'd be damn happy. Close down!! :D

This thread has become really sad. My local Blockbuster is like a ghost town. Usually only one guy in there and I haven't seen anything worthwhile in a long time at that store.

I have been hearing of Blockbuster going out of business for years now though so maybe they will just go into chapter 11 and come out a smaller/stronger business?
There is just less and less places to buy a damn game now a days.

Holy guacamole !!!!!

Maybe we should start an official BB Bankruptcy Countdown.

And happyorangeman, what the hell am I looking at??????

Edit: By the way, it seems that Rock Revolution for the 360 just dropped to $8.99 at Gamestop. Maybe some of us should take the $2.30 hit and fill BB's shelves with more merchandise they'll never get rid of just for spite!

I read this same kind of stuff during the CC liquidation, and I can't help but think some people salivate over being able to eat the goose when there's been golden eggs all along. I miss the CC clearance thread, and when/if BBV shuts down, I'll miss this thread even more.

That's pretty much the sig of my nightmares. LOL.

QFT! I want B1G1 sales all the time that no one goes to. Not lame 'liquidation' sales that everyone jumps on when the prices are only like 20% off.

That's Wundershowzen.

In case anyone actually liked that Ren & Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon they put on Spike a few years ago, Blockbuster has it in one collection for $3.99 used.

They also have a 2/$10 sale on all DVD's $9.99 and under.

Just a heads up in case anyone wants some DVD's before the liquidators mark them up to ridiculous prices.

Was hoping for another B1G1 storm this summer before the doors get shut. Once they announce their closing there will be too many people looking for deals there to have a chance to score too much anyway.
I may get an army of Hannah Montana standees for Halloween.
"Blockbuster is struggling to renegotiate the terms of a $250 million revolving- and term-loan agreement. The company has until May 11 to complete the deal. The company had total debt of $780.9 million under its credit facilities and senior subordinated notes as of Jan. 4, according to the SEC filing."
 Daaaaamn.

I went to go see what new game selection my local BB had in stock after the massive liquidation return. Needless to say, the whole layout of the store changed with most of the games gone, but I did find that they had quite a few used games remaining. Bought Devil May Cry 4 for PS3 used for $14.99 for a trade I've been working on.

If you look deeper in that article, the same analyst that comments on the NPD's for games every month, Michael Pachter, thinks that BB will still remain in business for years to come. There's hope for some more Cheap Ass deals yet to come....

Those players will likely be gone by the end of the month. They are dumping tons of product.

My local BBV had Metroid Corruption used for $20 and Smash Bros Brawl used for $30. Anyone happen to know if the real used price is cheaper? I know BBV is not the greatest at tagging their games with the actual price. Should've had them scan it when I was there.

I asked an employee at one of the BBVs I stopped in at last week, what she thought would happen.

She said there's no chance BBVs is going out, and that she believes Sony may jump in and bail them out.

I always love it when know nothing employees give their two cents on the inner workings of their employer. Why the hell would Sony, of all companies, invest in an antiquated business model? BBV already owes them money. I don't see how anything Blockbuster owns could be of any use or value to Sony. Add to that the rumor that Netflix's streaming service is headed to the PS3. It just doesn't make sense.

I, for one, will be sad to see BBV go. Even without the awesome trading, my current-gen collection practically doubled for pennies on the dollar during each B1G1 between the amazing deals to be had on games to keep, and the games costing $5-7.50 that flipped for 500-700 Goozex points or $15-20 at GameStop. Nothing a third-party liquidator will do can possibly compare to the regular deals at BlockBuster.

Wouldn't it make sense for Sony to bail out BBV? Just because they're owed money, during the acquisition, the loss would be a huge writeoff for Sony. They could create a streaming service like netflix and use it primarily through the PS3 with the Blockbuster name behind it and rival the 360 and netflix. It could shape up to be a HD-DVD and Blu-ray type of war again. Sure they would have to close/downsize their stores, but the name is valuable and there will always be people who are technologically inclined and will rent movies. Maybe 20 copies of Benjamin Button is a bit much Blockbuster????

I guess you own BBV or have some major internal knowledge we don't have?

Wow, are you serious? I guess I should have believed that Circuit City employee that told me Best Buy was going to take them over since clearly he had inside information.
