Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Hey, quick question. One of the BBV's near me is closing down. Currently the used games are going for 40% off. Do they go any lower before they close shop and ship their inventory away?

Thanks.

40% is pretty high actually, the BBV that closed near me went up to 30% on the last day. I guess it would be YMMV, compare the last day to now and see if theres still a lot of time in between.

That depends on the liquidators running the closing sale. The percentage off of used games here was 30% last week and the store is supposed to close in early January, so something is telling me that the percentage will spike very quickly.

The best time to go to one of these sales is during their final week and the final 1-2 days, since everything is usually dropped to $1-2 each and you can typically get some real deals then.

Alright, thanks for the input. I'll go find out when they're closing and then bust open the piggy bank and clean house.

do you guys know the return policy at blockbuster. I bought an xbox 360 arcade with $190 on gift cards and the rest on my credit card. Tried returning it today, saying I got an xbox for christmas and therefore not needing the one I bought at bb, and they denied me. The store manager said he needed to talk to the district manager and for me to come back monday. He also said that I wasn't allowed to buy the 360 with gift cards in the first place???? Merry christmas I guess.

Bullshit. The store manager just doesn't want to do a refund. As long as the Xbox wasn't opened, I don't see why they care. The store manager should have given you back the $190 on gift cards and then the rest onto your credit card like it said on the receipt. Get the district manager involved if you have to. His number should be near the front registers somewhere along with the store manager's number.

lolz at the guy returning the 360 - better start looking to sell it on craigslist. Wouldn't be surprised if that store is closing soon and they were told not to take big holiday returns. Or maybe they just get penalized for returns in general.

Every store gets penalized for returns and credits. It sucks, but it's something all stores have to deal with. Hell, my manager has taken back a Wii that was opened up (which meant he could no longer sell it as new). I'm not saying the store should take it back if it was opened, but if it's still in brand new condition, then they should take it back.
considering how many easy under the radar flips there are, i'm glad i steered clear of this one.
When, last year?
If you find something you really want for a decent price DO NOT WAIT till the liquidation is almost over.
Thanks, but you don't need to tell me. I've learned that lesson a long, long time ago. Anyways, nothing I really want, just things I would not mind having.

Quick question: are the PS3/360 Damnation's still holding at $17?

I actually have a copy that I own and still getting that would be awesome. Thanks!

Traded a copy of damnation both for PS3/360 to BBV on Wednesday. Value was at $17.00 for both systems.

Just bought a mint complete copy of Tales of Vesperia for $14.99...may go back tomorrow for a disc only wii batman $9.99...also saw DS Pokemon Sky for $14.99

I traded in a 360 Damnation yesterday (dec 26th) for $17.

This might have been mentioned, but I noticed the original Fallout 3 dropped to $19.99 for both ps3 and 360. It might be $14.99 for the next B1G1. You never know.

I also bought Shellshock 2 for 360. It was mistagged at $4.99 so I jumped on it for some easy achievement points. It actually rang up $14.99, but the employee price adjusted no problem.

Yep I've also seen Shellshock 2 tagged at $4.99

Got Shellshock 2 mint for 4.99 about a month ago. Was gonna wait for a B1G1, but it's only $5. First level was decent. Didn't realize it was a survival horror game set in Nam. Points for originality.

LOL yeah the first Shellshock was supposed to be a realistic Call of Duty style Vietnam game. I guess somebody said the word "zombies" at the creative meeting for the sequel as a joke, and the rest is history. I look forward to Shellshock 3 : Dracula meets the Wolfman in Saigon.

Some pre-order bonuses. Should be all corporate locations, nothing amazing but if you need to buy from BBV for some reason..

5$ Gift card upon full payment for -
Darksiders
Bioshock 2
God of War III

So you get the card if you pay it off at once, or after picking the game up and paying your remaining balance.

Mass Effect II - Pre-order bonus of "Inferno Armor Rave Card". Does it literally mean a piece of paper, "card", with the code for the armor? I don't know, they have a picture of the armor suit though, not sure what the card part means.

Dante's Inferno - Pre-order bonus of a 7'' tall figurine of Dante. Looked decent from the picture.

Until, I think january 4th, we still have the buy 50$ in gift cards get 55$. If you wanted to place a pre-order for anything before that deal expires, this would be the way to go obviously. If you do the math, that's 55 + tax out of pocket for the games that come with a gift card, to get 5$ back afterwards. But again, nothing strikes me as must have from BB, unless a friend works there and you can get them to pre-order it on their account for the employee discount(6$) ontop of what the store is offering.

I'm sure I'm not the only one flipping from BBV to GS and back...have we come up with any titles that are good for the $20 deal @ GS? The list I have currently for $10 games @ BBV are Wii Ski & Snowboard, Uncharted 1, and any POG's that you might find on the list, but those are very YMMV. I suspect there could be a few others.

Also, got thinking today about how Damnation's TIV is pretty high, and then I remembered they sell it for $39.99 used or something like that. Given that GS sells it for $17.99 used, this might be a good indicator to find some decent flips to BBV -- as in find games that are sold at a much higher price @ BBV than GS. If I recall correctly Race Pro was a similar situation where it was about $17.99 used @ GS and $39.99 used @ BBV.

Damnation was trading in at $17 to BBV for a while. I don't know if it's changed in the last few weeks.

I traded in two copies of Damnation on Tuesday (2 days ago) for 17 each
Sounds to me like the computer had it wrong. I've seen it tagged at 4.99 in at least 4 different stores.
The cashier must have scanned the original barcode for $14.99 (new) on accident. Dayum, I thought I got a deal. Oh well 950 easy achievement points for $5 credit is still decent.

You may be the only one given that I haven't seen any of those games for several months at any BBVs. It seems they all disappeared before the last B1G1 sale. And no POGs here this time at all.

None of the regular rental conversion stuff is any good?

That was just a couple of games I knew fit the bill, not that I had seen them. I went to the closest 4 BBV's to me last night and no one had anything cheaply that would qualify.

On Tuesday night I was able to trade 2x Damnation X360 for $17 each. I was hoping to find some $10 to cash out my small balance, but it looks like I'm going to have to either find a game for my new PS3 or see if the gift cards work on the Blockbuster Online accounts.

Crap. I remember seeing a R&C:TOD at one of the BBV stores around by me, but I can't remember which one and I don't wanna trek to all of them only to find out that it's been sold.:bomb:

Oh well. Not like I haven't already made a good buck on the GS $20 TIV promo with the few games I've traded from the HWV sale.

just go to one store and have them do an inventory check and it will tell you which store has it. you could also call them so you dont have to do any driving until they tell you which store has it.

I should definitely try that, as I'm trying to get my credit amount I have at Blockbuster back down close to $0 in the event they end up joining Circuit City. Not that I really need to worry about the credit I'd lose anyway, since that was made wholly from copies of a certain game recently.

I've been knocking the credit down via small purchases(soda, chips), but I want something I'll actually have for longer than a night. Well, that is until I trade the game(s) into Gamestop for the $20 promo.

Wow, I have to check my BBV to flip games to GameStop. I would like to get a PS3 slim to go along with my fat one. I currently have $55 at GameStop and $144 at BBV. If I could find a couple of $10 to turn into $20, that would be GREAT.

Went in and the only game they had to flip to GS was Eternal Sonata. Thing is, its $15. not worth it for $5 bucks if that.

As I looked, there was about 6 copies of Rock Revo that I had traded in 5 months ago still there. I felt a little sleazy. haha
Ratchet and Clank TOD is $10 at bbv and on the gamestop list.
For $10 in BBV Credit I'd rather play that then flip it to Gamestop..

Apparently tomorrow is the last day for all the stores that are closing here in Tampa. I don't remember the exact date that they first started the liquidation, but you guys may want to check with your local stores in case yours are closing soon.

What is up with 2 B1G1's months apart earlier this year and none since? local stores have stacks of games!!

I was there yesterday in AZ and they are @ 50% for games and still had newer stuff like Brutal Legend and Uncharted 2 for $54.99 x 50% so approximately $27.50. Do they ship all of that stuff out before it drops to 80% off? I suspect they do, because $12 for those games is rediculous.

Shit! I'm willing to bet that knowing my luck my local BBV that was closing shut down for good yesterday. Dammit. I wanted to grab a spare Red Faction for PS3 from them for like $20 or under. I'll check today when I take one of my parents to a doctor's appointment in the same area for 2pm or so, but I'm sure they probably closed.

I , as with many, probably have the same thoughts. Id like to think they would do one of these eventually.

Honestly it would be perfect to do one right after Xmas when kids are looking for games for their systems. Or even right before Xmas (like last year) to soak up the Xmas profit. Maybe they are saving the B1G1 for slower business times of the year.
