did your slaves die under your care....or did they die on their own, after you offered them medical services because you *knew* that you didn't protect them while you were enslaving them

....and they refused the care for whatever purposes???

nice try at the slavery analogy though

The big problem is that these guys get hooked on drugs due to the amount of time they spend on the road and physicality of actually wrestling.

You can't start a ball rolling and than say that you aren't responsible where it goes.

But, is that a condemnation of the industry as a whole, or just WWE?

Let's take Umaga as an example: he was in WWE for a while, was released because he had problems, and then signed on to do the Hulkamania tour of Australia. He died of an overdose shortly after returning home... where does the blame or accountability fall?

What about guys who worked places like WCW or ECW, worked the indies for a while, and died later? How about someone like Mike Awesome, who took his own life after being out of wrestling for a while? Even Chris Benoit, who worked more time in other companies combined than he did in WWE, where does he fall?

I understand that WWE is the figurehead of the industry, but it's really the industry itself that's toxic. The other issue that we're facing now is that a lot of the guys who were dying also came from the older, and tougher, school of wrestling. Lots of drugs, lots of steroids. It's not to say we've eradicated those problems, but I'm curious to see where the stars or today and tomorrow stand in 10-20 years. That hard-living mentality of someone like Guerrero is slowly fading into the past, and that's going to take time to gauge what the effects are. We've eliminated chair shots to the head, but we won't see the long-term effects of that for years.

Having said all that, Cade is certainly an anomaly, having died so young. To me, though, that indicates that he had larger demons that the industry shouldn't be accountable for. Even if he got hooked on some kind of drug as a result of being in wrestling, I guarantee he was given treatment options before the TWO times he was released. How much further does accountability have to go? Again, I'm not defending any WWE policies, and I think the 'independant contractor' thing is arguably the most horrendous mis-use of power going today. Lance Cade's death, however, shouldn't be on WWE's head. Again, too, that's a question that needs to be asked... if he worked places before WWE, are the WWE expectations so much more severe that they're the ones that need questioned?

Again, I ranted here (surprise, right?), but the bottom line is that the industry itself needs a kick in the ass like the Raven lawsuit would have given them. As it stands, blaming and questioning WWE about the death of every wrestler who dies young smacks of outlets simply viewing WWE as 'wrestling' itself. For every WWE wrestler who might be working 5 days a week, there's a guy in the indies who might go out only 2-3 nights, but he has a match where he takes chair shots to the head, or staples things to his flesh. Which is worse? The problem is, if Necro Butcher died tomorrow, I don't think any major media outlet would give a shit. WWE is a buzzword now, and it sells the story... Umaga hadn't worked for WWE for close to a year, yet every obituary or story boldly displayed 'WWE' in it. There were a ton of stories that didn't even mention the Hogan work.

Ultimately, there needs to be a change, but it's not one that's going to come because people are questioning Linda McMahon about Lance Cade. I understand that people think Linda was being callous when she answered the questions, but I think that's a bit naive. If I thought for one second anybody asking Linda about Cade's death were doing it for any reason than political posturing, it would matter. As it stands, it doesn't. No one in these articles gives a shit about Lance Cade, or preventing it from happening to anyone else, which is the biggest fucking shame in all of this.

I'm not sure how the Indy life is now, but there was also the hustle and need to travel long ass distances to get your name out there also. I remember listening to the High times interview with Londrick, and Brian was saying how one time he had to do 3 matches in 40 hours, and this was on the other side of the country or some shit like that. Thats going to be just as bad.
But, is that a condemnation of the industry as a whole, or just WWE?
It depends.

I think steroids and the sort can be blamed on the industry (although you could still blame the WWE since it is their standards and Vince's love for muscleheads that influence the industry) while painkillers and the like fall pretty much solely on the WWE due to their schedule and expectations they demand from the wrestlers.

Like Umaga, I think it's safe to imagine that he picked up his drug habit while with the WWE and was unable to kick it when they let him go. Same with Lance Cade and Test.

I just don't see how WWE is at fault when he allegedly turned down medical assistance or didn't complete his rehab.

I do believe they should offer the wellness program, and I wish they (WWE) fought to insure these performers and just flat out give these people breaks. I wish storyline wise someone like Jericho could go "it's time for my damn vacation and you parasitic fans better be waiting for me when I come back!"....and then actually really takes a vacation for month like us normal people can (or two weeks here...two weeks there)

I just can't blame WWE for this guy's death when he hasn't worked for them in a while. He wasn't touring with them. He wasn't affiliated with them. He just...wasn't there.

I guess another way to look at it would be as if you raised your child...they turn 18 and leave the house....and now they're 21 and found their way into jail. Some people blame the parents because somehow it's their fault. But from 0-18, that child was healthy, they went to school, and while they weren't the best...they gave an effort at life. The parents shouldn't have to take responsibility because their grown ass son/daughter is now in jail (for let's say...theft)

Especially if the parents offered a year or so ago to assist them with finding a job or whatever

Except Lance Cade was all fucked up through out his WWE employment. His seizure on the airplane that got him fired the first time? Him trying to go cold turkey off of morphine. The second time they fired him? Because he asked for help with a sleeping pill addiction.

A better example would be parents who pressured their kid to get straight a's while doing multiple after school activities/cleaning the house/having a job. You could say that it isn't the parents' fault when little Johnny starts taking uppers to try and stay on top of everything or that it isn't their fault when he OD's later in life when he doesn't kick the habit but it was their schedule/pressure that was the catalyst to his addiction.

Regardless of what causes a person to make a choice, the fact is that it was still that person's choice to start doing whatever they're doing and they are responsible for the consequences.

For example, in my younger days, I had problems with painkillers and, to a much greater extent, alcohol. The fact that I have clinical depression and I had a lot of relationship/family issues at the time made me want to drink, but in the end, I chose to do it. Those people and things didn't make me. And I got myself off of all those things all by myself with no help from anyone (cigarettes, too, but those take a long time to kill a man, usually, and I don't think anyone ever needs rehab for smoking).

I feel badly for Lance Cade. I understand his situation and can completely see how a person would need help with those issues. But to blame them on the business or his employers is not fair, in my opinion.

Anyway, SummerSlam/Raw thoughts and pics coming shortly. I got home late Tuesday night and was busy yesterday, so I haven't been able to upload everything yet.

"The last time a WWE champion was born outside of the United States? 16 years ago, Yokozuna. *Edge, Jericho, Hart*"

What makes that even funnier is Yokozuna was born in San Francisco. But Jericho was born in New York so they both lose. Also, Kane was born in Madrid.

Overall, I had a really great time at the WWE events at Staples Center. The double taping of raw kind of dragged due to its length and hearing the Nexus and Cena themes 18 times each, but all the shows were fairly good.

Facebook friends: You can check out my pics on there. Otherwise, I will be posting Photobucket links for each show.

SummerSlam was somewhat like a TNA PPV with good matches that had crappy finishes. I haven't seen the TV broadcast yet, but I know based on the Titantron and where I was sitting that I was on TV a lot. I even made a few brief appearances on Raw. We've still got Superstars tonight and next week, plus next Monday's Raw, to air.

They were slow letting people in, so I missed seeing my hero Zack Ryder job to Evan Bourne in the dark match. :(

Kofi vs. Dolph was a really good match given the time they had to work with. Dolph looked strong and seemed to have the match won. I'm not sure why they couldn't have saved the Nexus run-in for after the bell (why were they attacking Smackdown guys, anyway?) except that I guess they didn't want Kofi to lose to Ziggler again.

The program for the show actually listed a 6 pack challenge for the belt including Christian, Hardy, McIntyre, and Rhodes (all of whom I thought should have been in a 4 way) but I think they scrapped that idea because... well, if I told you here, it'd be a spoiler. Skirt Tiffany & Kelly Kelly vs. LayCool was also in the program, but we all know what happened with my beloved Tiffany.

The Miz/Jericho/Edge promo was funny and included 3 of my favorite WWE Superstars. The Slim Jim bit was great.

Melina vs. Alicia Fox was probably Alicia's best match, but that's not saying much. Melina won, as I expected, and will be a much better champion than Alicia, at least between the ropes. Melina looked to have hurt her knee at one point, but she finished the match and wrestled a couple times the following night, so I guess she's okay, thankfully. I got a nice shot of Melina hitting her finisher. LayCool's involvement afterward was a pleasant surprise.

The handicap match was better than I thought it would be, honestly, but I had a bad feeling as I cheered on Punk & co., wearing my SES shirt, that they were going to lose. Punk got a lot of good offense in, but I fear that, based on the finish, the SES may be falling apart. That makes me sad.

The Miz's promo was awesome. That is all.

The Orton vs. Sheamus match was really good, but the DQ ending was disappointing. I kind of expected it, but the way it was done with the ref being shoved was lame. I'm glad they're keeping the belt on Sheamus for a while longer, though. The post match attack and RKO were pretty cool.

Rey's orange gear looked really cool. This match was actually one of the best matches Kane and Rey have had with each other. The ending was as it should have been, with Kane chokeslamming and tombstoning the shit out of Rey.

Then we got to see The Undertaker return at SS for the second year in a row. We couldn't hear what he was saying to Rey in the corner. Kane actually took Taker down, so I guess Taker hasn't fully recovered from whatever Kane did to him.

The reveal of Daniel Bryan in the main event was something I kind of expected, but the guy sitting next to me showed me the spoiler on WWE.com anyway. Damn him. I still went crazy when he made his return.

the beginning of the match was hot with Daniel Bryan going wild and Team WWE getting 2 quick eliminations. Nexus then regrouped, and Skip Sheffield (unfortunately, but it made sense) came in and started wrecking shit. Bret Hart's elimination kind of sucked, but I guess he can't really take any bumps.

Heath Slater pinned Edge and Chris Jericho both in the main event of SummerSlam. Think about that for a minute. Then he tapped to Daniel Bryan, of course. The Miz's run-in was the best way to book it if they were going to have Bryan lose, but I think it should have been Bryan who was the sole survivor, making Barrett tap, if Team WWE was going to win.

I think Cena was supposed to sell the floor DDT longer, but it was damn near 8 P.M. by the time that spot took place and the PPV had to go off the air. Still, it was really disappointing seeing Cena pin Justin Gabriel and tap Wade Barrett in the span of 1 minute.

Overall, it was a really fun show, but the finishes to almost every match were disappointing. If they were going to have Team WWE win, at least let Bryan get the win. The Nexus needed Bret Hart to get himself DQ'ed and The Miz to interfere to eliminate Bryan. They looked kind of weak, but Raw the next night softended the blow a bit.

SummerSlam Pics: http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/MattYoung/WWE SummerSlam August 15 2010/

Raw 8/16/2010:

Wade Barrett was cutting a quality promo when Cena came out and just ruined everything. It wasn't that he came out... it was the fact that he completely belittled every Nexus member and made them look about as credible as the Spirit Squad. His "jokes" were mostly stupid and unfunny, especially the Wendy's thing. Bleh.

Barrett vs. Jericho was a match I had been wanting to see, and it was the best match of the night as far as the live broadcast was concerned. Barrett actually won cleanly over a multi-time world champion, which was win he needed badly.

The guest hosts (minus Justin Long) seemed to be on some sort of crazy drugs. I still love Jason Sudeikis, though. Their promo wasn't too bad by guest host standards.

Not sure what I think about the new tag belts. I wonder how this will affect the title lineage, since WWE.com had been keeping separate lineages for both sets of belts in the unified titles. Also, I really liked the Smackdown belts' design.

Bryan and Tarver had a good thing going for a couple minutes, although Tarver's punches looked pretty weak, given that his gimmick involves knocking people out. The match did its job, keeping Tarver in The Nexus and furthering the Miz/Bryan storyline.

I thought Alex Riley was supposed to get some solo time to shine on Raw as a result of NXT? I guess they scrapped that idea. He and Miz were awesome on the stick, as usual, though.

Orton vs. Gabriel, like most matches on the show, was short. I'm not sure what the kayfabe explanation would be for not disqualifying Gabriel after Sheamus interfered, but Sheamus didn't come in the ring, nor did he really land any solid shots. The aftermath was awesome, with the chair beatdown and multiple RKOs

Next, we got the 2 worst wrestlers in Nexus teaming up- Sheffield and Otunga. No mention on commentary of Truth being Otunga's mentor on NXT, sadly. Morrison deserved better than this.

The women's match sucked, but it was nice to see Jillian actually get a win for a change.

Edge vs. Heath Slater was pretty good. It sucked to see another countout finish, but Slater did pin Edge the night before. Slater got in some good offense on a 9-time world champion and outsmarted him at the end for the win.

The Khali segment was terrible except for the "butt ugly" line making me laugh. Why was he even on the show if he was "too injured to compete" at SummerSlam?

The Cena vs. Young match was actually competitive, which surprised the hell out of me after what happened at SummerSlam. I used to loathe Darren Young, but he's turned out to be better than Otunga, Sheffield, and Tarver. I kind of hope he comes back as a face. Raw needs midcard faces, and I figure they will do something with him after putting him in the main event.

Also, 2 Superstars matches were taped, but I'll avoid mentioning results since they haven't aired yet. Spoilers for those matches are in the photo album, though.

Raw pictures: http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/MattYoung/WWE Raw live Staples Center August 16 2010/

I will refrain from giving my thoughts on the Raw taped for next Monday for now. If anyone wants my opinions, I will share them later if asked, but will otherwise wait till Monday/Tuesday after the show airs. But I will say that it was a much better show, wrestling wise, compared to this past Monday's, and they announce some stuff related to the next PPV.

You can obviously read spoilers at various sites. Pics of that Raw and the post show dark match Raw/SD/Nexus battle royal (Cena won) can be found at the following link:

That is certainly great news. I look forward to his ROH return.

Florida Championship Wrestling, the official developmental territory of World Wrestling Entertainment, held its annual Talent Evaluation Clinic three weeks ago. The FCW Clinic is the only clinic where WWE producers, WWE scouts and WWE Superstars are in attendance to evaluate potential WWE talent. The camp was attended by 63 dreamers and it is believed that only a select few would imminently land contracts with the organization.

The company reaction was that of the 63 people who tried out at the FCW clinic, paying $1,000 to be seen, that approximately 50 of them had no business being there. In particular, AAA Women's Champion Sexy Star received harsh reviews as company officials felt her work was terrible, her English was terrible, and that she was overweight. They also felt she wasn't pretty looking without her mask on. John Laurinaitis told those in FCW that when it comes to hiring female talent, the standard is if they aren't pretty enough to appear in Playboy, then they shouldn't be hired.

The only wrestler known to have been offered a developmental contract is Mattias Wild, who was trained by former WWE performer Lance Storm. Company officials were said to be impressed with his fundamental ability. Others wrestlers notably taking part in the tryout include independent women's grapplers New York Knockout Nikki (also known as Toni the Top in Wrestlelicious) and She Nay Nay. Regarding Nikki, it said that she 'absolutely' doesn't have the look company officials like.

Cripes, man.

Damn you, Johnny Ace!

What is the purpose of Playboy-quality looks when WWE's present marketing strategy is to kids? (And if anyone says, "Well, Chase, in 5-10 years those kids will be teens," I will kick you in the balls for that is a bullshit reason.)

Honestly, though, I'm not a considerable fan of female pro wrestling. However, they definitely should have a place in any pro wrestling promotion. It's a shame that some people in WWE prefer looks over ability. That is one reason why a lot of WWE's audience doesn't give a shit about their "Divas." This said, I do respect people like Lioness Asuka and Chigusa Nagayo (the Crush Gals), Manami Toyota, and other highly-talented female pro wrestlers.

And if WWE has had this Playboy standard, I wonder about a few things. I understand the hiring of Ashley Masaro, as she was essentially the only person in her "season" of the Diva Search that had any personality. But one must wonder about the hiring of Jillian Hall. But hey, this is just one man's opinion.

Edit: And yes, I know that Jillian started off as a pro wrestler in the Indies. If anyone has any links to Jillian putting on good matches, please post them. From what I've seen over the years, she's terrible--at best.

I thought Jillian and a hand-full of others were brought in/up to fill in the severe void of female talent at the time. How she still has a job I'm unsure.
Regardless of what causes a person to make a choice, the fact is that it was still that person's choice to start doing whatever they're doing and they are responsible for the consequences.
Yeah but that doesn't mean the causes should be shrugged off. It was Lance's decision to take the drugs but what made him go "man I need to get bigger, what can help me get ahead" or "fuck, my body is killing me, how can I make it stop"...both lead back to his time with the WWE and the schedule he was on along with the demand to be as big as possible muscle wise.

There is definitely a bigger problem when multiple people are dying young of the same causes (painkillers/heart failure) and even a top guy like Kurt Angle admitted to taking massive amounts of painkillers to try and deal with the WWE schedule/wear-and-tear.

Chris Nowinski summed up how I feel about the whole situation.

Impact thoughts -

The opening brawl was pretty silly, but I liked Tenay actually acting like a person for a change, and showing it from the fans' perspective on TVs in the lines was really unique. Weird-looking since it made it harder to see, but definitely unique. Eric's promo about RVD's many injuries was just absurd. Orlando must have some really shitty doctors if they haven't diagnosed HEAD TRAUMA after a week. Also, why should any TNA fans give a shit if he has a concussion? TNA plays that kind of stuff for laughs. The worst that can happen to him is he winds up like EY, which may actually be a fate worse than death.

Jeff Hardy-Rob Terry was pretty terrible. Taz going on about Jeff not wrestling in his wrestling gear, but instead in street clothes was just stupid since he always wrestles in a wifebeater and baggy pants anyway. He was just in a white wifebeater and jeans - not much of a difference. For some reason, TNA didn't edit out the first missed spin kick, that looked pretty bad. Also, they sure are giving guys plenty of time between matches in this thing - Jeff won and they announced that the next round will take place at No Surrender. Also, somehow, Rob Terry is viewed by Dixie, Hogan, and Bischoff as being in the top 8 - but AJ Styles, the TV Champ who beat him for the title, isn't.

Then Hulk Hogan cut a promo in the back, on the phone, talking about needing to quit because Abyss beat up RVD, and they had to do a tourney which according to Tenay, HOGAN HAD A PART IN, and that he can't imagine staying because RVD was like the whole company and LIKE THE PRESIDENT AND IT'S LIKE ABYSS TRIED TO KILL THE PRESIDENT. Beyond the complete goofiness of all this - TNA HAS A PRESIDENT. Her name is Dixie Carter, it's her on-air title, and she was in the video they were cutting to during this Hogan deal. Weird weird weird stuff.

Then Taz, a half hour into this show, wonders why Flair and Abyss haven't been at least suspended for the former brutalizing a half dozen guys and latter the trying to kill someone. Lethal-Anderson was better than most Anderson matches thanks to Lethal, who was rewarded with jobbing. THE MEGAPUSH CONTINUES!

Angelina cut a promo about Madison being a coward and talking about how great a champion she is and how hard she worked to become a five time champ. Didn't she win the thing once because a BOX WAS OPENED!? And it wasn't even a cereal box where you could at least argue she risked getting a paper cut. After this, they had an awesome bit showing clips of the Guns on Reaction putting over the tag titles and showing clips of the match which worked at both hyping up that match, but also making Reaction seem important by showing clips of it during the main show.

Angelina-Madison was the usual bad TNA women's match. Dug Velvet coming out - it fit nicely into what they built up with the two on Reaction last week. Why that wasn't brought up on TV after Reaction clips were JUST SHOWN on Impact, I have no idea. WHO'S UNDER THE HELMET!? I'm gonna go with Anakin Streetwalker.

Flair came out and cut a really awesome promo knocking mindless hardcore wrestling and saying that he's more hardcore than EV2 because he crashed in a plane and until they do that, they can all kiss his ass. THAT ruled. Then Dreamer and company came out and were...kind... until Mick ranted, then more guys yelled and screamed, then Dreamer said that they'd have come down and kicked Fortune's ass, but Dixie said not to. What a bunch of extreme pussies. Somehow, Dreamer vs. AJ was made in all this, and Dreamer didn't even demand a title shot with Dixie RIGHT THERE. What a dipshit.

Angle-Douglas Williams was awesome. Angel's pre-match promo basically touting him as unbeatable in tournaments was a decent way to hype it up, and their styles meshed really well. They did a really good job showing Douglas as being nearly on par with Kurt, and a result, them telegraphing EVERY MATCH RESULT OF HIS with this retirement stip hurt this match more than most.

Nash and Sting, not in Wolfpac paint, which was somehow really important weeks ago despite him wearing a Wolfpac singlet for a year came out. Nash's promo was good, Jarrett's was nothing special and neither was Hogan's. Tenay expecting us to get hyped for Nash, main eventer and Sting, main eventer against Hogan, icon, and Jeff Jarrett, mid-carder for life, was hilarious. Not as funny as Hogan talking about the company being ALL ABOUT THE YOUNG GUYS when it's been a senior's tour throughout this episode, but up there. Oh, and Fortune came down to beat them all up after a black out so they could lightly fall down without actually taking a bump.

Pope-Morgan was a nothing match, but at least led to a graphic showing the brackets to the tourney and Taz asking what dinero was. The brackets set up a guaranteed great main event as it'll either be Angle-Pope or Angle-Anderson, but unfortunately, they also telegraphed the result of the main event of their so-called biggest show of the year because of the stupid retirement stip. Or he can lose and come back with a giant helmet. He might need a bigger one than Tara due to all the HGH and livestock steroids though.

AJ-Dreamer was the usual bad Dreamer match since it lacked gimmicks. Taz was hilarious on commentary though, bringing up that Tommy doesn't make mistakes - I suppose he tore his MCL on purpose, and citing his big-match experience. Sure, most of that involves LOSING the big matches, including one to ZACK RYDER earlier this year, but don't let the facts get in the way of a good story or more bad booking. Then five thousand guys came out and Abyss helped AJ win. TOMMY DREAMER CAN'T JOB CLEAN TO AJ STYLES! fuck this company.

GOD KNOWS, LEARN TO LOVE IT CUZ IT AIN’T GOING ANYWHERE SOON. Now, EV2. EV2! Lemme see, the flying Melendez, a circus act, I DARE YOU TO CALL YOURSELVES WRESTLERS. YOU MAKE ME SICK. YOU DON’T BELONG IN THE BUSINESS, THIS ISN’T PERSONAL - IT’S A BUSINESS. THE MARQUEE SAYS WRESTLING, NOT GARBAGE CANS, KENDO STICKS, OR TABLES. WE CAN ALL DO THAT, AS A MATTER OF FACT, I CAN CRASH IN AN AIRPLANE AND WALK AROUND AND TALK ABOUT IT! UNTIL YOU CRASH IN AN AIRPLANE, DON’T TALK TO ME, KISS MY ASS! KISS THEIR ASSES, TOO! Smile and be proud of the fact that we’re part of TNA.
AJ - EV2 couldn’t leave well enough alone - you had to come into TNA and get that last glory shot didn’t ya? HAD TO BE ON TV THAT ONE LAST TIME!? YOU WANTED A HARDCORE FINALE?! ASK AND YE SHALL RECEIVE. NOBODY HAS WRESTLED IN THIS RING MORE THAN AJ STYLES - I AM TNA. TNA IS AJ STYLES. So lemme clear it up for ya - THIS IS THE HOUSE THAT AJ STYLES BUILT!
Dixie - AJ, AJ, AJ! YOU MAY HAVE HELPED BUILD THE HOUSE, BUT I OWN IT. IT’S MY HOUSE, and if it’s my house, then it’s their house! Ric, LISTEN UP, HULK AND ERIC TRIED TOT ELL ME ABOUT YOU, BUT I WOULDN’T LISTEN. THOSE DAYS ARE OVER BECAUSE AT HARDCORE JUSTICE, YOU THOUGHT YOU SAW THEM FOR THE LAST TIME, BUT AS OF LAST THURSDAY, THEY DIDN’T HAVE CONTRACTS, BUT AS OF TONIGHT… THEY ALL DO!
Flair - HEY I’M TALKING TO YOU GOOD-LOOKING. WHAT ON MY RESUME SAYS THAT I TAKE CRAP FROM WOMEN!?
Dreamer - Nature Boy, you are the living legend…
Flair - I KNOW IT!
Dreamer - IF SHE DIDN’T TELL US TO SIT BACK, WE’D BE UP THERE AND KICK YOUR ASSES. LET THE PAST GO! YOU SHUT UP! WOO! YOU SHUT UP! WOOO! THIS ISN’T THE PAST, WE’RE MOVING FORWARD!
Foley - I GET A PHONE CALL FROM YOU, I mouth the words RIC FLAIR, and that night, you say, AND THAT NIGHT, YOU WERE A MAN DOWN ON YOUR LUCK, AND YOU SAID YOU DIDN’T KNOW WHAT TO DO. AND I TOLD YOU… CUT HIS MIC!
Morgan - HE’S A DIRTY BUM - YOU’RE RIC FLAIR!
Foley - I told you how great it was to be in TNA. I told you that you needed to make the move that was right for you. Shortly thereafter you joined TNA. I’ve got a lifetime of regrets, but if I had one thing to not do, it would be that.
Flair - LET’S ROLL INTO THUMBTACKS AGAIN!
Foley - I WORK FOR DIXIE CARTER.
Flair - BAD FOR YOU, I WORK FOR FLAIR AND FORTUNE! GET SOFT AND TALK TO YOUR KIDS, WE’RE GONNA KICK ASS AND TAKE NAMES!
Dreamer - ABYSS, FOR WHAT YOU DID TO RVD, HE’S OUR FRIEND AND WE’LL GET BACK AT YOU THE WAY WE KNOW HOW. AJ, 100%, this is the house that you built and we had nothing but respect for you until last week. You jump on us, and we may be beat up, but tonight, it’s gonna be me and you in your house - AND WE’RE GONNA MAKE IT EXTREME!
Tenay - DREMER’S FIRST MATCH UNDER HIS NEW TNA CONTRACT IS TONIGHT!
Angle - Now it’s a single-elimination tournament - I’ve won those ever since high school!
Taz - He’s been kicking ass in tournaments since he was a kid - including winning a little thing called THE OLYMPICS!
Tenay - TONIGHT, THE X DIVISION CHAMPION COULD END KURT ANGLE’S CAREER.
Anderson - I hope RVD gets well - I’ve been in that position before. My heart goes out to him, but the show must go on.
Taz - STING AND NASH SIDE-BY-SIDE - THE HISTORY OF THESE TWO MEN!
Nash - Ya know, I’ve known this man for 20 years. And though we’ve had our disagreements, there’s no one in the business I respect more than Sting. Ya know, I’ve been called a cancer before in this business. Actually, I’ve been called a lot of things, but after 20 years and 28 operations, I’ll tell ya - I’M NOT OUT HERE FOR MONEY! I’M OUT HERE BECAUSE I LOVE TO DO WHAT I DO! And I’M BE DAMNED IF SOMEONE TELLS ME IT’S MY TIME TO STEP ASIDE! YOU DON’T TELL ME NOTHING - YOU ASK ME, AND IF YOU WANT MY SPOT, COME TAKE IT! WE’RE THIS CLOSE AS A COMPANY TO TURNING THE EDGE AND MAKING THIS REALLY HAPPEN. THE CANCER ISN’T IN THIS RING, IT’S IN THE BACK. THIS LITTLE MAGIC ACT, THIS BULLSHIT! He says I’m wasting my time, and maybe I am, but if you want to know the truth…
Jarrett - THE TRUTH!? KEVIN? REALLY!? I’LL TELL YA THE TRUTH. If anyone’s full of B.S., it’s you! Kevin, I’ve known you since day one and a leopard doesn’t change its spots - it’s always been about Nash! You never gave a damn about anybody and that’s never gonna change! And Sting, as far as you go, I can stand up here tonight, open up the closet door, and we can talk about all your skeletons AND YOU KNOW WHAT I’MT ALKING ABOUT. We can tell the world what kinda man you are - but we’re not gonna do that, WE GOT A LOCKER ROOM FULL OF GUYS SICK AND TIRED OF THE SILLY GAMES YOU BEEN PLAYING. As far as Hogan and Bischoff go, and as far as what they’ve done IN THE COMPANY THAT I FOUNDED, YOU KNOW IT’S BETTER OFF SINCE THE DAY THEY GOT HERE. So Kev and Sting, tonight, I’m gonna do it honor of 20 year TV executive Eric Bischoff and the single greatest box office attraction Hulk Hogan - I’M GONNA GRAB THE CLOSEST CHAIR I CAN FIND AND BEAT BOTH YOUR ASSES!
Hogan - LEMME TELL YA SOMETHING BROTHER, IF YOU’RE GOING DOWN THERE, DUDE, YOU’RE NOT GOING DOWN BY YOURSELF! Big Kev, STING MAN, THIS GUY BUILT THIS COMPANY FROM THE GROUND UP AND ERIC AND I CAME HERE TO HELP HIM FINISH THE JOB. Everyone here knows what you’re all about - YOU’RE JEALOUS THAT THE SPOTLIGHT’S ON THE YOUNG GUYS AND NOT YOU TWO! GUYS, TONIGHT, WE’RE GONNA BOTH COME DOWN THERE AND END THIS, AND FIRST-TIME EVER, STING-MAN, PUT THE BAT DOWN!
Tenay - IMAGINE THIS - STING AND NASH AND HOGAN AND JARRETT FACE TO FACE!
Dreamer - Dixie was nice enough to give us contracts, don’t be a rebel - just see the bigger picture.
Raven - THERE’S ALWAYS A BIGGER PICTURE!
Dreamer - STEVIE!
Stevie - Raven, we only have to wait a small amount of time before we can GO AFTER THEM UNTIL THEY’RE DONE!
Taz - Neighborhood Curtsgey.
Tenay - Curtsgey?
Taz - Curtsey?
Taz - There’s one of the Dinero Dollars. Isn’t that what dinero is?
Tenay - Dinero is money.
Taz - I’m not big into Hispanic speaking.
Tenay - Didn’t you hear what I said?
Taz - Morgan should really go for a pin - this is a shot at the TNA World title.
Foley - I SAW WHAT HAPPENED. To EV2.0. AND I HAD TO WATCH IT ON REPLAY BECAUSE I WAS TAKEN OUT BY ONE SHOT. I AM PART OF EV2.0 AND THERE WILL BE VENGEANCE. My doctors have told me that I’m a few weeks away from taking that charge. Courageous or Stupid, I’m gonna defend EV2.0 AND FOLLOW TOMMY DREAMER EVERY STEP OF THE WAY!
Taz - I’m gonna use a cliché here - if you look up battle-tested, you’ll see Dreamer’s face. It’s my dictionary.
Tenay - THE DICTIONARY ACCORDING TO TAZ!
Taz - Tommy’s not gonna make a lot of mistakes and he has a ton of big match experience.
Taz - Pumphandle suplex, nice page out of my book, Dreamer.
AJ - I’M GONNA KILL HIM! I’M GONNA KILL HIM!
AJ - GET A GOOD LUCK, CAMERA MAN! (Camera man zooms in on his tattoo)
Taz - Just cuz it’s AJ’s house doesn’t mean he gets to poop on everyone who comes into it.
AJ - I’M GONNA KILL YOU, TOMMY DREAMER!

I read that yesterday...and then googled that Sexy Lady wrestler

Her without her mask = me talking to her and trying to fuck
Her with her mask = .....disgusting

She's not "WWE" hot...but she's certainly not one of those women that you act like you're invisible when you see her at the bar and you're drunk but still sober enough that no matter how good the pussy might be...you still ain't touching it!

She looked geniune and slightly above average. Nothing wrong with that!

I give her a 6/10

Do any of the "good" American indies or Japanese promotions have full-length, free online video shows? All I can find are 8 minute podcasts with a clipped match or two.

Reaction thoughts -

Why is the show starting off JUST LIKE IMPACT, with a terrible Jeff Hardy-Abyss brawl. Jeff swearing revenge before thwacking Abyss with a chair was some poetic justice for Jeff. Then he climbed a ladder, took off his shirt, and did his little yell and taunt as if he was in in a match as opposed to a brawl with a guy who tried to gut his friend. Also, why is everything yellow? I guess Xplosion is the blue show, this is the yellow show, and Impact's the show that's lit in such a way that human beings can see it easily.

Then they put over the importance of the world title and did a WWE-esque video of close-ups on the TNA World title. It's a shame the belt doesn't really have the depth to it to really look awesome in those shots like the World Heavyweight Title does when WWE does the exact same thing.

The Magnus video ruled. Hopefully they show it on Impact so he has a chance to get over on the A show. They ran down his acting career, and his run as an IWGP and TNA Tag champ that I'd forgotten. They also covered his present team with Desmond, which I love watching on Xplosion. Foley's promo about Ric was great - he did a fine job explaining just why he's so involved with this deal with Flair and talked about getting a tryout in WCW due to him, which I didn't know before.

The deal with the Knockouts title was silly. Hearing Rayne talk about coming to TNA was sadly funny. Washing out the Impact footage just looks weird. TNA seems obsessed with making things look different as opposed to GOOD. Blue lighting for Xplosion, unique, but terrible-looking. Ditto with the wacky yellow lighting for the Jeff-Abyss deal at the beginning of Reaction, and the shots of their Impact brawl on monitors.

Devon's promo was good, but I'm pretty sure it was mostly like his last one - YOU SHOULDA KILLED US, BUT YA DIDN'T AND NOW WE'RE GONNA COME AFTER YA. Angle and Anderson's deal was good. One thing I noticed about the end credits was the song containing - NOTHING MAKES SENSE TO ME ANYMORE, which sure sums up TNA's booking nicely.

I forgot he was still with them. He hasn't been on TV in months except as part of a group in a pull-apart awhile back.

New Japan puts most of their matches up on YouTube. If you can't find something, like the recently concluded G1 CLIMAX, just search YouTube.

To simplify the process, here are a few of my favorite YouTube users that constantly upload new (and old) puro.

Well, I looked up the August 20th card, and the main event is Aries-Delirious in a Steel Cage. That should be good. :)

If ROH came to Colorado, I'd definitely go just to see their roster perform or Cornette speak. Personally, I'm a fan of Aries, Omega, Generico, Kings of Wrestling (Castagnoli-Hero), and Cabana, and would love to see them in-person.

Perhaps the most poignant picture yet. It's really hard to have a sense of humor about BP fucking over people like they have the past 4 months, and this idea of waiving a right to sue is downright maniacal.

By the same token, TNA is really that bad that the picture is hilarious.

Nice find guyver.

As if the Nexus angle needed more help imploding, reports are surfacing that the injury that Skip Sheffield suffered at a house show was a broken ankle. Obviously, that'll lead to missing some time.

You know, at this point, can we just get rid of everyone not named Wade Barrett and forget this ever happened? Or at least start over with Husky, Hennig, Kaval, and Riley? Barrett leading those guys? I'd watch that.

Anyway, this sucks. I realize I was one of the few that liked Sheffield, and they finally got him into that 'guy who destroys people' role that he excelled in. Any time off is going to kill all of his momentum for both him and the Nexus angle, since he was easily positioned as the number 2 guy behind Barrett.

I hope they work the Sheffield injury into a Daniel Bryan angle. Bring back the heel hook for DB and give hi submissions even more credibility.

I like Skip as well. I didn't like the guy on NXT with that stupid Cornfed redneck gimmick he had. He plays that monster heel that just destroys everyone in his path very well. I see Skip sticking around injury or not. Skip and Barret are really the only two Nexus members I see sticking around after this angle is over.

Given that he probably can't walk very well on it, it would have to be a phantom injury via heel hook, which I'd be fine with. I don't know if they'd let him get that move over that well though - it IS one of Michelle McCool's finishers after all.

I remember this and a nearby UHF station that had NWA on every evening (they showed the same episode every day). Those were back in the days when you had to wait a week for the PPV results and I would go to the newstand weekly to pick up the latest Apter mag. Man, things sure have changed a lot.

If anyone deserves a tribute thread it is Skandor.

That is true. I don't want to upset Cody Rhodes.

Curious to see how Del Rio's finisher looks on someone besides Rey, because the slam to set up the arm breaker looked/sounded awesome.

Alberto and Rey's promo exchange was pretty good, largely due to Del Rio, who has this character down pat on the mic. Dolph and Kofi was every match they've ever had. Striker was less annoying than usual with his Vickie praise, and then he renamed the Thesz press to the Kingston press. So yeah, fuck him for that. Dolph destroying Kofi after the match with the sleeper and then a delayed stomp that they played up very well helped make him look strong. It's not perfect booking since Kofi looked kinda weak, but at least it's better than last week, where the two guys feuding over the IC title jobbed to other, bigger-named stars.

The wacky Hornswoggle skit was okay - he looked funny as a plant. A green plant, not like a wrestling plant ala the stunt granny. Kelly and Show vs. Luke and Serena was okay. Loved Serena doing a gutbuster as an homage to Punk's GTS, and their post-match hug was just the right amount of creepy.

Kane's promo was pretty awesome. They found a way to have it make some semblance of sense even by using WWE's wacky canon for the two. The unmasking deal they referenced was nice because even though the 2000 unmasking didn't lead to him being unmasked forever (which was '03), it was still the first time his face was shown unmasked, and it made sense because 'Taker was the man who did it, which was the key to his story.

Drew vs. Christian in match 35 of their best of 4,000 series was about as good as I expected. I loved the use of the coverless ringside barricade and then later a Codebreaker with the arm instead of the head to destroy Christian's arm, and yet Drew still won because Christian was simply too tenacious. This being yet another rematch on the show didn't do much to help the SMACKDOWN ALWAYS FEELS LIKE A RERUN issues that have plagued the show for a while. Thankfully, this match was set apart because Cody was fantastic on commentary and formed a new alliance with Drew after the match by destroying Christian. I demand that Cody come out with a YES, I AM DASHING button on his new, swank-looking suit. Or better yet, rather than ruin his suit, put it on Grisham's, or put the DASHING one on his suit and one that says NOT DASHING on Todd's.

Alberto Del Rio vs. Rey made Alberto into a star, which is seemingly impossible since the match didn't last eight years. His elaborate intro is incredible - it might wear thin after a while, but for a first week deal, it was pretty awesome. The personal ring announcer was a great little touch that added an extra layer of smarminess, and the Rolls Royce looked incredible. Somewhat surprised that Del Rio actually drove himself out there, but I suppose that sets this intro further apart from JBL's, so it might not be too bad a thing.

Alberto's gold and silver/white gear looks swank. His offense looked pretty good, and I loved the enziguri to the back of the arm instead of the head. Rey hitting a running buzzsaw kick was pretty sweet too. The flying cross armbreaker looked good, and allowed him to win clean and genuinely look better than Rey as opposed to getting a tainted win ala Carlito over Cena when he beat Cena in his SD debut. I also got a bit of a kick out of Rey vs. Dos Caras Jr. closing out Friday Night SmackDown right before Lucha Libre USA.

A land owner, and an honest man -

Quotes -

Rey - I wanna thank the WWE Universe - MUCHOS GRACIAS! Thank you for helping me get through one of the most grueling matches of my life, and although things didn’t turn out like I wanted, at least I didn’t wind up in a casket.
Alberto - HELLO, MY NAME IS ALBERTO DEL RIO. BUT YOU ALREADY KNOW THAT. Rey? Rey Mysterio!? Oh my God, what an honor! The Mexican idol. The great luchador! Two national icons! Rey, and Alberto Del Rio. I’m a national hero. I’m a man admired by the country. And you know, Rey, you know my bloodline comes from kings. You also know that your blood is from the street - the horrible street of Tijuana. You know, you’re like these people - the little worm in my bottle of tequila. You are little… Come on, Rey. You’re a joke of a man. While me, JUST LOOK AT ME! I’m handsome, rich, and powerful! I’M A MAN WHO WEARS COUTURE!
Rey - You’re dressed nice. I got a friend who wears those cufflinks - I was with him when he bought them at the swap meet! I’ve seen your type a million times - you think that cuz you have houses and come out in tailored suits that I have to respect you? That they have to respect you? Respect is earned around here. You haven’t gained any of our respect.
Alberto - I DON’T NEED TO EARN ANYTHING FROM THEM, OR YOU, YOU PESSANT!
Rey - WHO ARE YOU CALLING A PESANT!?
Alberto - YOU! Show me respect, or I’ll make you!
Rey - You want my respect? Their respect? COME AND GET IT, ALBERTO! ON YOUR BIG DEBUT - YOU AND ME, ONE ON ONE, TONIGHT!
Alberto - I will do it, because I can’t wait to squeeze you. To destroy you like the cockroach you are.
Cody - When you use a manly mouturizing lotion, you can have healthy, glowing skin.
Striker - People wondered why we were cheering for John Cena and Daniel Bryan, and it was because they were fighting for WWE. WWE PUTS FOOD ON OUR TABLES! TO ALL THE MESSAGE BOARD PUNDITS, I HAVE TWO WORDS FOR YOU - GO AWAY AND LEAVE IT TO THE PROS!
Grisham - That was more than two words.
Striker - GO AWAY!
Striker - Vickie puts Megan Fox to shame!
Striker - The IC Title is usually a precursor to a world title. Dolph Ziggler could be on that path!
(after a Thesz press)Striker - KINGSTON PRESS!
(to Kofi, who is going after Dolph)Vickie - YOU CAN’T HIT ME! I’M THE OFFICIAL CONSULTANT TO SMACKDOWN! Hahahahahahaha!
Striker - When Vickie smiles, it’s like when the sun comes up.
Striker - At Summerslam, Kane tombstoned the Undertaker INTO THE NETHERWORLD!
Striker - Serena has been training for MONTHS! (Kelly Kelly comes out)
Grisham - WWE’s Facebook group has surpassed 1 million members - more than both the MLB and ESPN.
Striker - Do you have Facebook?
Grisham - Yes.
Striker - I DON’T LIKE IT.
Grisham - Be my friend.
Grisham - Serena has been training in Punk’s Dojo.
Striker - The Straight Edge Sanctuary - in Chicago. She has played soccer and has a strong lower base!
Striker - Serena has no tattoos - she wants to keep her body pure, although she may get one on her shoulder of CM Punk’s face if she wins.
Kane - HAHAHAHA AHHAHAHAHAHA BWAHAHAHA When the devil removed himself from heaven and Earth, he left behind seven deadly sins. Of these seven, my favorite is and always will be - pride. You see, big brother, it was your pride that weakened your powers over your decades of destruction. It allowed me to put you in a vegetative state. Because of your pride, I knew you would come back before you were ready, and because of your pride, I WAS ABLE TO DROP YOU ON YOUR HEAD AT SUMMERSLAM! Do you remember when it all began? How your journey from immortality to that mangled wreck I left in the ring on Sunday, how it started, brother? For years, I was nothing more than some vague memory in back of your mind, but when you saw me again for the first time, the look in your eyes told the story. ONE OF AN OLDER, SELF-SERVING BROTHER WHO WANTED TO KEEP THE SPOTLIGHT TO HIMSELF AND KEEP ME IN HIS SHADOW FOREVER! Everything that I did in those early years, you were able to overcome. Instead of destroying your legend, I MADE IT STRONGER. IT TOOK YOUR LITTLE BROTHER TO SEPARATE YOU FROM YOUR LAST VESTAGES OF HUMANITY! IT WAS YOUR MOST MAGNIFICENT MOMENT! That’s when my master plan was set in motion. With every victory, your collection of souls grew, so too did your weakness. So I watched, and I waited, and even in victory, it was clear that you were losing your grip. BUT THE DAY YOU FORCED ME TO REMOVE MY MASK WAS THE DAY THAT YOU UNLEASHED THE MONSTER CAPABLE OF ENDING YOUR REIGN OF DARKNESS! When we met for the second time at the grandest stage of them all, the timing wasn’t right, but the plan continued to evolve. I know you better than anyone, brother, I positioned myself at your right hand so I COULD GAIN YOUR CONFIDENCE AND EVEN THEN, I WATCHED AND I WAITED. Our reunion, it was nothing more than a vehicle for my vengeance! I KNEW NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU WERE SENT CRASHING DOWN, YOU’D ALWAYS GET BACK UP! YOUR PRIDE FORCED YOU TO GET BACK UP! But your pride would be your undoing. You see, while you were disgracing yourself, allowing yourself to be disgraced by those beneath you, I was biding my time. I knew that my time had finally come the moment you showed Shawn Michaels an instant of mercy! YOU HAD A CHOICE! YOU COULD DESTROY SHAWN MICHAELS OR BECOME ONE WITH YOUR WEAKNESS! YOUR DECISION SEALED YOUR FATE, BECAUSE I KNEW THAT MY PLAN I’D HATCHED OVER A DECADE AGO HAD FINALLY COME TO FRUITION! I knew, last Sunday, when I saw that shadow of your former self rise up out of that coffin. When I felt your weak grip on my throat, I KNEW IT WAS OVER! All the years of plotting, all the years of planning, all the years of waiting and watching in the shadows were finally at an end! I HAD MY VENGEANCE! The vengeance that had alluded me for so long. Hehe And now brother, the shadows in which I once labored, they’re cast upon you. AND WHAT WAS ONCE YOUR HOLY GRAIL IS NOW MY WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP! Undertaker, we were the brothers of destruction. But now, you are nothing but the brother that I destroyed. For 15 years, I dreamed of the day when the phenom would be no more. For 15 years, I relished the thought of being the dominant brother. For 15 years, I knew that this day would come. I have dedicated my life to making this moment reality. The moment when my brother would be cast down with grave vengeance and furious anger! And I would replace him as the devil’s favorite demon. HAHAHAHA
Striker - CHRISTIAN IS WOVEN INTO THE FABRIC OF THE WWE!
Striker - You smell good, buddy.
Cody - I smell Dashing.
Cody - Todd, I’m disappointed. I saw you walking around with ONE long black nose hair.
Striker - EWW!
Cody - Christian would tell you that he’s in his prime, I say he’s two years past it.
Striker - WOW!
Striker - I loved your grooming tips on earwax, can you get it sitting next to someone?
Cody - No, but I did bring you a little gift…Cotton swabs and a carrying case. Because you’re disgusting.
Grisham - Did you bring me some cucumber lotion?
Cody - No. It’s out of your price range.
Grisham - What does your father think of your grooming tips?
Striker - HERE COMES MATT HARDY! HE AND CHRISTIAN ARE LIFELONG MEMBERS OF THE WWE UNIVERSE!
Striker - Look at the boot on Matt Hardy’s left foot - HOW MANY INJURIES CAN HIS BODY WITHSTAND!?
Grisham - This seems like part of a grandmaster plan between Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes!
Swagger - I’VE HAD THE WORST SUMMER! I STARTED IT AS WORLD CHAMPION, AND I WASN’T EVEN ON SUMMERSLAM! I LOST TO MVP. I KNOW I’M BETTER THAN HIM! KNOW WHAT I MEAN!? HELLO! (Rosa takes out earbuds)
MVP - You’re better at me at some things - you are a two-time NCAA champion, but lately, the only thing you’ve been better at me than is whining and crying!
Swagger - I’m challenging you to an old-school shootout! In honor of my father, we’ll call it the Jack Swagger Sr. Cup! IF I WIN, I HOST YOUR VIP LOUNGE!
MVP - And if I win, I’m throwing a big party - and you’re paying!
Teddy - Kane, I have It on good authority that next week, your brother is returning to SmackDown!
Kane - Then next week, SmackDown will be Hell on Earth!
Chimel - Alberto Del Rio’s personal ring announcer - Roberto Rodriguez.
Grisham - He’s got his own ring announcer and a Roll’s Royce.
Striker - Alberto Del Rio is a millionaire and a land owner!
Grisham - Alberto Del Rio won the Gold Medal in Greco Roman wrestling at the 1999 Pan Am Games.
Grisham - Del Rio claims to be an honest man.
Striker - He appears to be a man with two faces.
Striker - A STAR IS BORN ON FRIDAY NIGHT SMACKDOWN!

I just want to point out, if you've never seen that set in person, it's really freakin' cool. You can see in that picture of Punk that the wavy-entrance part is actually some kind of metal grating that magically plays video. The giant pillar thing to the left is really just some kind of cloth with what look like tiny little Christmas lights every few centimeters. Every time I see those things play video but I know what they're really made of it kind of blows my mind a little.

Also, the sheer intensity of the pyro is downright stupid. This was one of my favorite moments of my life; I was sitting through the pyro all night and it still kicked my ass so hard I nearly dropped my camera.

Scored some free tickets to ROH, so I went tonight. I haven't followed ROH in ages, so I didn't know some folks, but was familiar with some (Dark City Fight Club), and not others.

Delirious/Aries in the cage was pretty enjoyable match.
Steve Corino w/ Kevin Steen are excellent. I could do without thumbs up the ass as a modified abdominal stretch, but his facial expressions are outstanding, his ability to work the crowd incredible. Corino would never work well in WWE, but he is on fire in ROH.

The other matches were ok. Nothing really stands out as incredible, but it was a fun show overall. And it was my first sojourn to the ECW Arena, which is a good bit nicer than I had imagined.
