The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya's Anime/Manga Topic
Even though the translated version isn't out yet, I've seen some cam pics of Bleach 240 and hot damn it looks awesome.
Man I might need to start watching Bleach soon. Any help would be appreciated. ;)
I can help you out.
PM me if you want.

I'm sorry I'm stuck on my .hack issues, but considering I know nothing of anime bootlegging and I really want my .hack//SIGN collection, I'm bringing this to you guys.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FJH4YQ/sr=8-1/qid=1156532622/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-3977452-1796904?ie=UTF8

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002VEVR0/sr=8-2/qid=1156532622/ref=pd_bbs_2/102-3977452-1796904?ie=UTF8

The first one is the Anime Legends collection. The second is the original limited edition collection.

Knowing very little about the difference, I do know the AL package is supposed to be a cheap, barebones package with the episodes and not much else. The limited edition's retail is quite a bit more expensive, though I don't know if it has anything more to it.

However, there are people selling used and new limited edition packages for roughly the same price as the AL package.

All that being said, are these limited editions likely bootlegs, indicated by their price? Or are they legit? And which of the two is a better buy?

Sorry for sort of derailing this thread, but I'm getting desperate.

Z, here're the easiest ways to find bootlegs:

A) Many episodes on small amounts of discs. (Most commonly 26 ep series' on 3 discs).
B) Chinese subs included.
C) "FX" logo on spine.
D) Shitty engrish subs due to being subbed in HK.
E) Different cover art than the legit versions.
F) Region 0/No region

The problem with the limited edition stuff is it isn't from Amazon. It's from other users, which I'm thinking could be a bootleg if some random dude is selling it.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0002VEVR0/ref=dp_olp_2/002-3143522-4950446?ie=UTF8

On that page, I'm looking at the first four, all comparably priced and the same retail price as the Anime Legends collection. Of those four, I don't know which is the best, or even if the limited edition is worth owning over the AL collection.

Dang it, I'm sorry for cluttering this thread with my garbage... but I'm doing it anyway!

EDIT: Heck, if you look farther down that list, you see one dude's description implicity stating "NOT AN IMPORT SET!" Two of the four cheap ones say they are imported. So does "import set" translate to "bootleg" or "inferior product?"

From the second listing:

That's exactly what to look for when determining.
That's a bootleg.

And also, don't worry about the posts, would rather see 20 posts than see someone unknowingly get ripped off with a boot.

Okay, that's what I was afraid of. But what about the third listing? It also says it is an import, but doesn't mention the amount of discs. It also says it is factory sealed, though I'm pretty sure you can reseal just about anything these days. Is that a boot?

Boots come factory sealed. And yes, that's a boot.
The thing is, in HK where these bootlegs are produced, they're made just like legit dvds. Cases, disc art, shrinkwrapped, hell, they even put copyrights on them. The only difference is the video quality is shit, the subs are shit, and, well, they're just shit in general.

So I should automatically rule out the other two cheap ones (due to lack of any description) and just stick with a legit Anime Legends collection?
Yeah. Just look for anything that clearly states region 1/6 discs.
Got it. Overstock has it for $31.04 shipped, so I'm going with that.

Surprise surprise, two new characters were revealed for One Piece: Grand Adventure (The America only game).

Kuina and Ohm.

Oh God, they really are going to go through with Skypiea >_>

So, I've been kind of bored lately, and checked out some anime through Showtime / Anime on Demand. I'll list what I saw, what I enjoyed, hopefully someone can clue me into the fact if these series keep on being ok and get shitty.

Chrono Crusade - I saw the first three or four episodes of this one, I highly enjoyed it and liked the subject matter... I'll probably get the box set.

Mezzo - Saw one episode, ok premise but boring boring execution.

Angelic Layer - Saw the first few episodes, I really liked it... I can't put my finger on why I liked it, but it entertained me.

Slayers Try - The dub is horrible... one dude sounds overly gay. Series seems ok, though.

Full Metal Panic - Saw episode 16 or something, not the best ep to jump in on a series but it's all AoN had... I liked it, it was a flashback ep talking about how the characters met, so I wasn't too lost.

Orphen - It's ok, nothing amazing but nothing shitty either.

I'm just wondering if Angelic Layer and Full Metal Panic are good shows all the way through, since Anime is too expensive to start blind buying :(

I've watched most of Chrono Crusade and all of Full Metal Panic. They're both definitely worth watching. I'd say FMP is a little better than Chrono Crusade, though, so if you only get one, get FMP. Especially considering the other two series of FMP so far (FMP Fumoffu and FMP The Second Raid) have been beyond outstanding. Probably one of my favorite franchises of animes.

I think Chrono Crusade will come first since it's on sale for $34.99 at Best Buy (thanks to that other thread) and that I've seen more episodes, so I know what to expect.

I think the Anime on Demand switches shows tonight, but they seem to be doing only one ep of Full Metal Panic at a time, which is unfortunate. I used to be a big fan of Gundam, but lately when I watch the series it's beyond boring, unless it's 08th MS Team, so I just want to make sure FMP dosen't ring that vibe with me.

I had kind of given up on anime, since imo most of the stuff they show on CN is kind of boring and not really my thing, or drags on far too long... most of the shows I've found on my own so far seem to be interesting, though. To be fair, alot of CN's anime might feel like it drags only because it's one episode every week, whereas right now I'm watching two or three at a time.

90 is the going price for the original box. Honestly i dont really care about 3 pins and Bandai's crappy as designed boxes. $30 is a pretty good deal for the discs only. I remember paying $70 for the original LTD ed box which had only volume 1 + goodies (pictured below)

In case anyone hasn't seen it yet, [as] has made a commerical for Bleach and it has Ichigo's, Rukia's and the hollow form of Orihime's brother's voices in it.

I personally like all the voices so far. Seems like it'll be a pretty good dub.

Good Bleach chapter this week. Even though nothing continues to actually get done, it feels more like there is than previous weeks.

yeah, it was interesting seeing both Dads talking.
I am just curious who will go to help them first, Vaizards, Kurosaki, the rest of the Scooby gang with their powers unleashed, or a shingami or two. It seems highly unlikely they will find any support there like in SS and its pretty obvious they are going to need help.
Seems like the whole thing was just a ploy to get them there anyway. I'd guess
they'll just hand Orihime over after some kind of "I'm not really a villain" speech. Aizen doesn't need her, really.

isnt she supposed to help them get to the king or the key to get to the king. Also I believe after the device to make arrancar is used you have to wait, couldnt she refresh that with her powers instantly
Damn. I'll have to see if I can find it at Borders while I'm here or I'll just wait until I get back home.
I stopped by during my break and found Death Note vol. 7, which I read on the plane ride back and I cannot wait for November.

I thought one L was weird enough, but having two disciples come into the picture after his death was just a little bizarre. I didn't exactly expect the whole Rem taking everyone out with him scenario to happen just yet, but it was quick and exciting.

I was looking for Zombie Powder, as well, since the Borders website said the title was indeed in stock, though under the name "Zombie Power."

Interesting news:

Synch-Point will release FLCL: The Ultimate Edition on November 21. The $69.95 set will include the full series, director's commentary, a sticker sheet, postcards, a book, and a coupon for a free t-shirt. Source: Anime on DVD
Finally, but that price is not that great for six episodes and some extra crap.

Turner Classic Movies will show Grave of the Fireflies November 12 at 10 p.m. Eastern.
I'll have to check that out, as I love this movie.

That is the only reason I haven't bought the FLCL series yet. $80 is way to much for a 6 episode long series. I'm glad to see a collection of all the episodes finally being released. This means eventually it will drop in price or go on sale and I can pick it up for cheap. That's a better chance then the 3 DVDs individually dropping in price at least.

BTW did anyone else read last week's Newsweek? There was a mention of Haruhi Suzumiya. I wouldn't be surprised if someone brings it over here eventually. link

Bleach and One Piece Scripts

Ishida and Chad get some action and *gasp* Sogeking's "secret" identity is revealed.

Edit: Naruto Script

Apparently, something "incredible" happens during Naruto's training on page 6, but we have no clue as to what it is since to raw is out. :whistle2:(

I believe ADV has put their unofficial dibs on Haruhi Suzumiya. I say as long as it isnt Funimation ill be fine. After watching the funimation channel for a few hours, im kinda losing any hope for the Trinity Blood, Basilisk, Rumbling Hearts, Beck, etc dubs. They only show 11 diff animes (none that great) and im able to notice the same VA's in 8 of em...

Gotta say its about time for that FLCL set. Hopefully that $69.99 MSRP will equal somewhere around $49.99 in stores. Im still amazed that the regular dvds have held up as well as they have.
Damn, not only is Zoro's sword broken, but Sogeking's gone :(
I was under the impression that it was only on fire, have you found a raw that shows otherwise?

Speculation on who has Haruhi, if anyone even has it at all, is anybody's guess. There's been absolutely no word on it, nor are there any "unofficial dibs."

I'm puzzled why people piss and moan about Funimation in this day and age. Sure, the company got famous off of Dragonball Z, but most of the shows they've handled since then were treated impeccably. Not to mention ADV and Funimation draw from a similar voice actor pool, as they're both operating out of the Houston/Dallas area. Personally, I find Funimation's newer dubs to sound a bit more fluid than ADV's work, which is mostly the work of a show's dub director.

Oh, and as for Beck, I can almost guarantee a top-notch localization. The thing took so long to announce because of all the licensing hurdles, which shows real dedication to the project. Not to mention I've gotten early word from a few of the voice actors in the dub (which I'm unable to share, sorry), all of whom I have the utmost confidence in. They haven't let me down yet.

I am really curious as to how a dubbed version of Haruhi will sound. I prefer dubs, but damn if the subbed version didn't suck me in.

Too lazy to link to them, but I've seen/heard three fandubs, two on youtube and one not. One was in German, one was in English, and the other was just a parody, but the parody was definitely the best of the three. I'd google Haruhi and Redbull to see if you can find it.

Look at the later pages. He's apparently picked up a stray sword, as it has a different hilt.

Cartoonist Takeshi Obata, author of the famous "Death Note" manga series, has been arrested for illegal possession of a knife, police said.

An officer questioned Obata, 37, in Tokyo's Nerima-ku after he was driving his car with the headlights off shortly before 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

Obata, from Musashino, was arrested on the spot for possessing a knife.

Obata made his debut as a cartoonist in 1989. He won a prize for his work, "Hikaru no Go," in 2003.

Not really interested in an anime about vampires, though I guess I'll be giving it a shot anyway. It better have more action than that crappy snoozefest Witch Hunter Robin.

I'm kind of suprised there hasn't been an anime based on Castlevania and the Belmonts.

The only shows I have dealing with vampires is Night Warriors (which I love) and Night Walker: Midnight Detective (which I haven't seen yet).

*edit*

Geez, Holland is such a bastard.

Especially since the stars of the past few DS/GBA games have been effeminent anime-style characters. I guess the Igarashi has been against an anime if the idea's been brought to him before.

Good news for Evangelion fans, I guess:

According to the October issue of Newtype (Japan) (On sale September 10), four new Evangelion movies are in the works. The four movies will include a prequel, a mid-series movie, a sequel and a "final" movie. The prequel movie is due out early summer 2007.

While the new story will be set during the same time frame as the original TV series,
Newtype states that it will be an entirely new project, not be a remake or improvement of any sort. Newtype also mentions that viewers will not need to have already seen previous Evangelion material in order to understand and enjoy the new movies.

Hideaki Anno will write the scenario for the first movie and will be the general director and manager for the entire project. Kazuya Tsurumaki will direct the movies while Yoshiyuki Sadamoto will provide character designs and Ikuto Yamashita will provide mechanical designs. Shinji Higuchi will provide storyboards for the first movie.

Khara, a new studio that shares office space with Gainax, was recently set up and is seeking production staff to work on Anno's new project.
I didn't like the series, so I don't really care about these new movies.
