Previous threads:
Target clearance is YMMV, ya dig! Games may not even be on clearance at your store, or they may be higher or lower than what is on this list.

This thread is for clearance-- not for sale items. Price reductions for clearance seem to happen on Monday, although not every Monday, but could also occur any day of the week depending on your store's price change team. Price adjustments on clearance are typically not allowed, but some have succeeded or have been able to do as return and rebuy.

Target often donates its older clearance titles to Goodwill stores, so keep that in mind when you're trying to find items. BigDirty: "Further reduction is possible when a game's price ends with 8 cents. However, when it ends in 4 cents it will NOT drop anymore. If it ends in 9 cents, it's just on sale or on a non-clearance reduction." Also, note that, typically, games will drop three times-- from 30%, 50%, then to the final drop of 75% off of the original price. Some people, however, have seen further drops up to 85%.

When games are marked down, the price change team typically find the game and scan it with their PDA/LRT to intiate the price change. However, in the case that they cannot find the game, they will either choose to not drop the price further or process the price change anyway, figuring that the game is somewhere in the store.

When posting deals, please include game, system, price, city, state and DCPI #

For example:
Debbie Does Skywalker, Xbox 360, $4.98
Mesa, AZ Power Road at Superstition Springs
123-45-6789

Also, a great help when you're posting deals you've found is to check this post and see if your item's DPCI number is already listed. DPCI stands for Department, Class, Item-- it's Target's version of a SKU. These are a nine digit number that can always be found on your receipt and also on the red clearance tags on the item itself. DPCI numbers are handy to have when you want to check the item's price-- just go over to your scanner and punch in the numbers, if your scanners have keypads. Also, you can give these numbers to team members so they can check the availability of the item easily with their PDA scanners. Please post any DPCI numbers that are not already in the OP-- thanks! This is especially important since some of the DPCI numbers on Target.com start with 241, meaning they cannot be used in-store, and also meaning that I can't get all of the numbers from Target.com.

Here is a fairly easy way to check your local Target's pricing-- often price tags will not be correct. Thanks to BigDirty for this:
1) Go to Half.com or a similar site. Search for the game to locate its UPC code number. It's in the gray box underneath the box art graphic.
2) Go to UPC Database ,Milk.com , or UPC Data and enter the code so you can print out the UPC. Go to Target and use the price scanners to scan your printouts.

Thanks to Mephitical for this tool for locating clearance titles, which is located here. Go to Amazon or Target to find the item's ASIN. When you find it, replace "B000O3IS48" in the URL with your item's ASIN. This will take you to a page asking you for your zip code. Type in your zip code and click enter-- this will display a list of local stores and whether or not they have your item in stock. YMMV on it working properly.

The website for locating clearance titles by their DPCI # is here: Find In Store

Much like the ASIN location website replace the DPCI # at the end of the URL...

(HUGE PROPS TO aj slick FOR GETTING US THIS USEFUL TOOL!!!)

The lowest known price will be posted. The item could be higher or lower at your store. Numbers in purple are DPCI numbers, which can be used to check the prices of items on newer scanners.

The Legend of EL HOARDO as told by Strell:

No cankle too big and no score too small,
The one and only EL HOARDO.

He'll steal your stash - gonna take it all,
That's the one - EL HOARDO.

He's gonna run down all the aisles
and snatch up all the loot,
And he's feeling really confident
in his nipple protection suit!

Awesome sideburns and a dapper mask
He's at your local store,
Gonna clean out everything
And then go back for more!

Who's the guy in the Star Trek shades?
He's the man they call EL HOARDO.

His boots are secretly roller blades,
There he goes! EL HOARDO!

He's got a cape and it's totally sweet,
A flash in red and white,
Calls his fanny pack his utility belt,
He's ready for a discount fight!

You'd never think he could run so fast,
With a gut of giant size,
Asks all the ladies if they'd like a ride
On his Starship Enterprise!

What's that sound comin' down the lane?
It can only be EL HOARDO.

His stubby legs are gonna bring the pain,
Brace yourselves - EL HOARDO!

He packs a sword, it's a replica,
Like Zorro in disguise,
Gonna leave an H scratched on the wall,
Then he'll move those ten ton thighs!

Knows all the price drops all the time,
Has inhalers to survive,
Lives in a basement at his parents house,
At the age of thirty five!

That's the one who got your penny guide,
The stallion called EL HOARDO.

He's got his Rascal parked outside,
That Man-of-Men EL HOARDO.

EL HOOOOOOOARDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

"You just got...EL HOARDO'D!" __________________

There have been some confirmed reports of La Whoreda, the female counterpart to El Hoardo. She is obviously more rare in the Target environment since she usually focuses her energy to her Avon business, but caution should still be exercised.

15 years of Kendo means anything that involves swinging a sword gets on my want list :D

Bushido Blade (1) PS1 ranks right up there at the top of my faves list. Hell, I even enjoyed Kengo on the PS2, even if they did ruin it with health bars.
I have to say the Target inventory locater: http://sites.target.com/site/en/spot/mobile_fiats.jsp?asin=&dpci=207-22-0496&desc=

is VERY VERY ACCURATE.

i.e. it showed a Fable 3 LE in "limited availability" at a store near me, I went there, found it, purchased it at $86, then checked Target's inventory locater and it showed out of stock at that store.
It is extremely accurate, but the human part of the equation isn't...theft, misplaced inventory, etc..
I used the DPCI checker, and one store near me just said it had the game "Available" (and it still says that) but they had nothing when I got there.
DAUE is showing up as available at every store near me in both PS3 and 360 versions. Only a couple are showing limited quantities. Strange...

Maybe the stock checker is broke on this game or maybe the game shouldn't have been clearance'd.

It's showing up at every store as available for me. I suspect that any stores that show it as unavailable or limited quantity have it already in the clearance cycle - I would check the DPCI at those stores to confirm, then buy at full price at another store and return/rebuy to the clearance store.

I'd say this is accurate - at the four closest stores to me, it had some availability at the ones with it at 60 and none where it's clearanced.

That's what's strange is every other store near me says Out of Stock except the one that said Available (which ended up having no copies out).

I don't think the game was supposed to be clearanced, since it's pretty new, but that's what was making it such an awesome deal.

Also strange is that when I do the ASIN search, it can't find the game in my zip code. Doing a regular search through target.com also does not find PS3 or 360 versions of the UE.

I will keep what karkyco said in mind, but it is the opposite of how I thought I was supposed to find these games using the DPCI checker lol
That's what's strange is every other store near me says Out of Stock except the one that said Available (which ended up having no copies out).

I agree, but you basically have to be extra sneaky to score some of these deals. Unfortunately not a single store anywhere in or near LA has it on clearance - they all list the game as available (and even funnier, all of the stores I've visited don't have it on the floor - they are in the back stockroom for whatever reason). Hopefully one or more of the stores will show it as out of stock soon...

EDIT:

Oh yeah I forgot to mention, should you attempt the "buy at full price at store 1 then return/rebuy at store 2 for clearance price" method, YMMV but there are various techniques that have been covered on how to increase your success rate. Also, important to note is that at stores where a game may have been clearanced and out of stock for some time, it will eventually be removed from the store inventory system and thus "item not found" so you basically have to do the return/rebuy while it's still in the system at the clearance price, or they will most likely try to charge you the full price.

Well went to Target today and found Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition for PS3 for $29.98,but people say they been finding it for $14.xx so not the best price.

What do you do to get an employee to actually check the back stockroom?

The girl I talked to at the store where it was supposedly available (but not on the floor) was so anxious to get rid of me I didn't even have a chance to bring that up.

Thanks for your tips though, btw. Now there are a few more stores I could check out since I was actually avoiding the Out of Stock locations.

Whats the best method to get a price adjust? i picked up fable 3 LE for 80 and went t 2 other target and the system wouldnt allow the adjustment so i asked for a return rebuy but they said id have to wait for it to hit the shelves again.

Nothing but "available" on DA:O UE here in Nor-Cal too. I'm thinking ahead to the inevitable return/rebuy opportunity, but I have not seen that advice to help it work. There was a mention of a gift card, but no explanation. Any information would be appreciated. It doesn't hurt to try, since the worst that could happen is I have to take the refund.

Do you recall what pages I can read up on these various methods?

I tried to do an price adjustment but system wouldnt let them.
I asked to do a return/rebuy and they said we'd have to put it in the cart and then youd have to wait for it to hit the sales floor.
So I do not know what else to try.
when was this? They haven't had anything over there for a few days but some GH:VH for xbox.
I picked it up the day after christmas wasn't exactly on the rack though found it one asile to the left on top of some music equipment guess somebody was trying to hide it or something had 29.98 on the tag but rang up 14.98 but they did have another copy it was 360 though I got it for ps3 when I left and it was on the rack...
That's awful.

How did you know how many copies they had? Might sound like a dumb question if you just saw them at the store, but I thought maybe you had a better way of finding them than the DPCI or ASIN checkers.

I used the DPCI checker, and one store near me just said it had the game "Available" (and it still says that) but they had nothing when I got there.
Nah, I had to swing by Target on that Sunday to get something for the twins and decided to check out the clearance section. The sad thing I had one copy in hand and was about to pay for it but decided to wait until Monday in case there was a drop...and there was.
Red Steel 2 bundle with wii motion plus at my target scanned at 9.98
I went to my Target today and it scanned for $19.98 . I still might go back and pick it up since the game does look pretty cool and I don't have a wii motion plus yet.

All I have ever found at my Target is a Asus 15.6" monitor for $33.xx.... I wish I would be able to find all of these deals....

There are no "methods". There is nothing else to try. Return it before closing...hope that no one else buys it... try to find the next morning.

I did this for Dragon Age Origins: Ultimate Edition for PS3. I left the higher price clearance sticker ($29.98) on the game when returning it and picked it up the next morning for $14.98 when it was put out. I got lucky because a sales rep was probably lazy and didn't resticker it before putting it on the clearance rack and people passed on the "high" price.
if anyone can pick me up a copy of the Ultimate Edition for PS3 I'd be most grateful.
Same here! I am also looking for a PS3 copy.

Untrue. "I want to change my method of payment" seems to be effective in at least some cases. People have also reported that returning it then coming back to the return counter and saying you couldn't find anything you want more, can I buy that back also works.

picked up a ps3- AC/DC track pack marked as "online Item" for $5

anyone know where these comes from?

i seriously doubt my store gets so many of these "online" items returned to there store

it seems like a clearancing strategy

The CSR can overide the new lower price and adjust it back up to what you paid for it thereby satisfying your need to "change payment" and eliminating you getting the lower price. A CSR can also cancel a return like it never happened if you pay by credit or giftcard so you can get your item back and still not get the lower price. And how many times do you think you can play stupid and lie to the CSR before they catch on to your "method"?

That's about the price that track pack goes for normally, as I've seen stacks of it at Kmart with the $4.99 pricetag on it.

What's your problem? Some of us who once were able to rely on other stores coughcoughSearscoughcoughKmartcoughcough and can no longer get GOOD clearance deals there have had to either rely on Toys R' Us or Target for our clearance deals anymore.

Unfortunately, TRU seems to change some prices back to MSRP when it suits them to try and make some extra money and I've never had much luck getting deals from Target.

So I'll take ANY method possible to get in on a clearance deal at Target if need be, since I want some more recent games but I don't wanna pay MSRP for them.:booty:

And for the record, I've never tried the change payment type tactic, but I have used the return/rebuy trick a couple of times to get a lower price. Although the time or two I did I had to go up to the return desk and practically beg them to buy the item back.

But it worked and for me that's all that mattered.

Well, you're the customer, so they should be more than willing to go to the backroom and pull it out for you. Just tell the employee that the scanner says it's "in stock" in the backroom, and if they don't feel like doing their job you'd be happy to have the manager/corporate assist you in your endeavor (and their firing).

As for the "methods" to return at higher price/rebuy at lower price, the method that has always worked for me is to change payment types/credit cards. Return it on one, then they will re-ring it up. You honestly think a CSR is going to manually adjust the new price higher, back to the "original" clearance price? That shit won't fly in Cali - you pay what the register says. I've never even had to bother with the browsing and "I couldn't find anything can I buy it back" method.
which console
I'm sure it was the 360, thats the only console I've ever seen it clearanced on recently. Also remember if your a completist or want to have the best possible edition, this is NOT the 'Plus' edition (which now that I think of it may be a GS exclusive..) I don't know whether to hold out for that (but its still super expensive) or grab this for $10... nah, I'll get i for $10

Saw this morning:
:360: Green Day RB $9.98
:360: GH:VH $12.48 (I think)
:wii: Red Steel 2 $9.98 (picked this up)
:360: Aliens vs. Predator $7.48 (picked this up, too)

Or it can be in the back. My target has 5 DAOU in the back and no shelf room, so theyre rotting. Theyre also still 59.99

There are people in the backroom that salesfloor people can walkie to pull items for them since target has a closed backroom policy where you need to be certified to go in there, let alone get on a ladder to pull something. Also, scanners wont say in stock in the backroom, it says X amount available, that can be wrong since it updates once a day and doesnt account for that days sales. Lastly the employee wouldn't get fired for not going into the backroom, especially if theyre hardlines or softlines, best they can do IF they have a walkie is get ahold of backroom.

Same, I found one for $19.98 and grabbed it. I figured it was a good deal since it came with the Wii MP. Not as good as $10 but still good nevertheless.

Thank you for clearing that up so people don't talk our of their asses when talking to a target employee following bad advice.

Picked up Green Day Rockband for $9.98 and Resident Evil Gold Edition for $9.98.

Also my Target in Gastonia, NC had tons of external hard drives $30 off, don't if that was advertised or not.

thought he was talking about the scanners the employees have, but still those can be wrong. Just find an employee with a walkie and theycan call the backroom, they usually need the dpci for the location.

Scored a copy of Dragon Age : Ultimate for both PS3 and 360 for 14.98 each!! Store locator didn't show any 360 copies in stock before I went.

Both games were inside the glass cases behind a different game.

Only games I saw in clearance section were Band Hero and Fallout 3 GOTY for 34.98.
