The Simpsons Game - Gen. Discussion
Hmm. Good point. I do think the game will sell pretty well though, considering it has the Simpson's name on it..but I could just be retarded.

I enjoyed this demo very much (as I did play in co-op)..but for $60..hmm. I don't even know if I would even try and get this via Freebie site.
The Simpsons name hasn't really helped the multitude of other games that have come out with it plastered on there. The movie might help but really I think its a bit more of a stigma to have Simpsons in a game title.

I think you inadvertantly made a great point there. A lot of people are going to look at this and say "nah, not worth $60."

Anyone play the full game? How is it? I am probably getting this for Christmas from my parents. I really want the Mr. Sparkle poster.

can people post some pics of the posters?

EDIT: Nevermind saw they were posted on the first page.

Is it possible to get the Homerball by itself, i'd like to have one, but rather wait on paying 60 for the game

Ebay wants like 15 bucks for one lol

does anyone have pic of the homerball? i wouldn't mind getting it and perhaps using as a tool of bribery to get a good deal from my tattoo artist.

Went to Target first (on Oct 31st) and they pulled them out of the back - no poster or homerball so I declined purchasing there. Then I went to a close by GS to see if I could switch Battalion Wars 2 to the Simpsons and get a Homerball. No luck on that as they only had Homerballs for the preorders. Then I went to the far away EB where I actually preordered it and at first they told me they were all out of Homerballs, but then they found one. I would have cancelled on the spot if they didn't have my preorder bonus. They said they only got half the number they needed for the preorders. Also, no posters there either. This sure was some half-assed promotion.

So what is the deal with the posters? Did anyone ever actually have any?

Haven't played the game yet ;).

Posters are in the game...check the back of the box, it should say "(Best Buy/Target/Gamestop) Exclusive ________Poster"

Should've went to GameCrazy. Every store got at least 25 homer balls. My store had 3 preorders across all systems and we got 43 homer balls.

 And so it does - "Gamestop Exclusive! Bartman poster". I was wondering, actually, why I didn't hear any disc rattle when I was carrying it. Now I know why - a poster is stuffed in there. I should have checked out which one Target had. I'm guessing that a poster shoved into a video game case is not of the highest quality though ;).

I'm trying to decide if I'm going to keep this or return it (or, possibly, sell it) and just rent the game. The shortness of the game combined with the average scores is making me wince at paying $60, even in credit, for it.

Scorch - Well, go figure. I've given up on Gamecrazy on preorder bonuses because they never seem to get them so I use my very limited EB/GS credit on things where I want preorder stuff and just use GC for the regular purchases. So I never even considered using GC - I figured the ball was an EB/GS exclusive anyway. Pretty pathetic that this big Mall store only got 5 of them.

Yeah, we suck for PO bonuses. We eventually get them in, maybe not on time, but we do. I recently got the Zack and Wiki 3D Puzzle thing, Ace Combat 6 faceplate, a few homerballs and a Castlevania 2D dude. And some Naruto keychain, or something.

If you're a simpsons fan, you will enjoy this game greatly. If not, avoid it. It doesn't really do anything wrong on the game side of things, but it's also not going to blow you away. However, the use of the license is brilliant and better executed than any game I've ever played. $60 may be a bit too much to ask for it, but I don't think you'll feel ripped off.

haha, gamestop always fucks up on the preorder bonuses.

went to best buy and got my homerball with no problem along with the medal of homer poster, which is pretty crappy.
which one has the big superhappyfuntime poster in it?
Target from what others have said. Check the back of the box to make sure, it indicates what poster it has.

I pre-ordered it the day it was available with the Homerball, even to the point that they found out about it from me. :wall: I went in today, instead of yesterday, as I had things to do with work and wouldn't get over there until today. They didn't have the damned thing. :wall: :wall: Said they sold out of them.

Previously, they put aside the pre-order bonus with names on them for the pre-order persons, and this time, nope.

I only pre-ordered it because I thought the Homerball was a pre-order bonus only, and I didn't even luck out there. I guess I'll have to call my EB and remind them to put my pre-order bonus aside for me on the day the game's out if I'm not going to be there on release day. :wall:

Tha sucks, Shrike. Like I said, I went in yesterday around 4pm and got the very last Homerball. There were many preorders after me that wouldn't get them. I had the game preordered months ago, before they even announced the bonus. If they didn't have the ball I would have cancelled on them. But it was really a fluke that I was up there and able to get it. Otherwise I wouldn't have gone until tomorrow at the earliest - and would have been sadly disappointed.

Anyway, I still haven't opened mine. Anyone with more gameplay impressions? My sons played the demo again today ;).

Funny thing is that it also took off 10% on my EDGE card renewal and the Persona 3 guide I picked up at the same time.

I'm hoping that I can chance into one via a trip to BB or CC tomorrow and then return the game back to EB. If not, then I think I might be SOL.

Im thinking of getting this for my brother (who is a big simposn fan) for his Birthday. I'd like to get the Homer Ball, what are the chances of a stores still having it tomorrow? Where should I try my luck?

I am getting this(and Death Proof) for Christmas. I can't wait to get it. I got my copy from Target so I could get the Fish Bulb poster. One of my favorite episodes. I am a big Simpsons fan and can't wait to play this game when I celebrate Jebus' berfday. I enjoyed the demo and can't wait to see the whole thing.

For those who have it, is the camera better than the demo? That alone made me not want to get the game anymore, at least not at the $60 price point.

Well, see, how come I didn't know about that? I should have picked it up with that coupon as well. D'oh!

Viva Pinata PA enter the Konami code for 10 AP is better
This may have had one of the worst demos I've ever played. I just could not get into it at all.
That may be a stretch, but it wasn't as impressive as I was hoping. I'm about the biggest Simpsons fan there is, but I'm not dumb...so I'm not spending $60 on this.

I just think they picked an awfully annoying/aggravating boss fight type level to choose. I didn't get any enjoyment out of the level at all.

Anyone know if there will be any more of the homer ball coming to stores? I asked a BB employee and they only got 3 that sold out. (11/4-11/10) circuit city ad states that the Wii version would come with one.

has anyone open their copy yet? I wanna open it based on that SUPER HAPPY FUN FUN level, but I'm still kinda wary seeing how I spent $60 on this....in store credit, but it's $60 none the less.
Maybe a Simpsons arcade game is coming? THAT would be sweet!!!
They had one a long time ago, it was awesome.

it's fun, but I be damned if that camera doesn't ruin it a bit. I was trying to go up a building as bartman and the camera stayed static while the controls didn't
Same here I have played the first level and it wasnt horrible, it deems a rent more than a purchase
Glad it turned out decent I didn't hate the demo I thought it was good but had problems. I was going to buy it with $.50 on the dollar store credit but even at $30 IGNs review turned me off. I'll save it for a rental early next year when a new release drought comes. Way to many other games more deserving right now.
Sounds like a perfect rental to me:
Lasting Appeal
An under eight-hour game is supplemented by shoddy co-op gameplay and ultimately useless item collection.

I've been playing through this as a rental and it is pretty good (but I am definitely returning my $60 EB copy). I will have the main game finished on my 3rd day playing, most likely. I've been going slow, too, trying to collect all the stuff though I haven't done too well with that. I guess that will have to wait until I buy it cheap later.

The Time Attacks add replay. At first I thought they'd just be running through the levels as quickly as possible since they give you "target" times for the normal levels. But it turns out there are different challenges depending on the level. Some are fun, some aren't, but each one has a 5 point achievement so there's some incentive to play through them all ;).

The Super Happy Fun Fun Game level is awesome though. Not so much for the gameplay, but it is funny as hell. I haven't tried the Medal of Homer, Grand Theft Scratchy, or Neverquest ones yet. Some of the ones leading up to that are pretty funny too. There's one where you rescue the 8-bit Simpsons - hilarious. Will Wright fans and haters alike will enjoy that one.

Oh, and the camera sucks big time. You have full control over it at most times, and I don't have a problem with that or the fact that it gets stuck on things occasionally (which seems to be one of the main review gripes). What I didn't get from the reviews is that the camera TRIES to be dynamic and whips all over the place, thus often disorienting you or screwing you up. I'll have to see if there's an option to disable that - I'd prefer full control on my own.

I managed to get 2 Homerballs, one at Gamestop and one at Best Buy. I just asked for one at GS and I bought a CD at Best Buy and the Homerball showed up at 0 cents on the receipt. So for everyone who wants a Homerball, go to Best Buy and look for a display for the Simpsons Game and there should be a bunch of them. You more than likely have to buy something with it though.

After a bunch of thinking and reading opinions from here and reviews, I don't think this is worth buying now. This game is gonna be a clearance purchase for me many months from now. But, if anyone bought this game at Target and wants to sell me their poster let me know.

The one thing people did not mention enough is how funny the game really is. The jokes are great, and most of the simpson regular appears. At times it feels like a real simpson episode. Just finished the 4th mission and i would say the camera is not a problem so far.

I think I said the Super Happy Fun game section was funny. It is definitely a funny game - probably the most humorous I've ever played. I'm not sure if any other game has made me laugh out loud like this one has on occasion.

As for the camera, try doing the building-to-building wall jumping bit with Bart in Springfield and tell me you don't detest the camera after that ;). And also the Time Attack for the Happy Fun game level. It is particularly horrible there, and for no reason (as it is out in the open).

I'm only about six or seven levels into this, but so far it's really funny. It's definitely the funniest game I've ever played.

Up until that very point in the game, I had no real problem with the camera. After about 15 minutes or so, I finally reached that damn lunchbox!!

You'll love it if you a big simpsons fan,and thats coming from anothe big simpson fan

Just beat it tonight... This game has one wacky and random ending.
After the last level where you fight Matt Groening himself, Lisa builds a stairway to Heaven out of the buildings of Springfield with her Buddha power. At the gates of Heaven, Homer and Bart have to fight Shakespeare, then, after a bunch of old enemies from the game, Benjamin Franklin who spilts into several mini-Franklins. Then, finally, you have a DDR style match with God himself. Unfortunately the 360 d-pad makes this part nearly unplayable (you have to push the d-pad in the different directions to match the DDR-style arrows and it is nearly impossible not to push an extra direction or two which drains your health) but I muddled through it on my son's game. Now I have to do it again on my save .

Then I went back and found the rest of the cliches which is pretty fun - most are no trouble to get but some are easily missable during normal play.

Overall, it was definitely a fun game and well worth a rental for sure. I'm glad I returned my $60 copy though (just did that today). For the hardcore completists (I'm usually one but I'll have to wait till I pick it up cheap later) there are two additional things you can do beyond completing the story and the cliches, the first being mundane and the second challenging. First, you can collect all the character-specific icons (in all the levels and the Springfield hub where there's 75 for each character). Second, you can complete all the Time Challenges. Some of the time challenges are very easy, and some aren't, but overall it would take some work to get them all completed.
