Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
How long does it take to do that? are there any tricks for leveling quicker?
I don't remember how long it took me to reach 30, but to be on the safe side, I'll say it'll probably take a few hours. The initial grind to level 7 feels the longest, but once you unlock the fireball tower, then the lightning tower, you'll level a lot quicker. Prioritize tower range for leveling until you're comfortable with your lightning tower range, then branch out to tower attack and tower attack rate. Start on the first stage on medium difficulty and grind until you unlock the fireball tower. Once you have that, you can change the difficulty to hard and level until you get the lightning tower, then switch the difficulty to insane. Each insane run should take 8-12 minutes and get you 2-5 levels for several runs. Once leveling slows down, I'd recommend moving to alchemic laboratory (stage 4), playing once through on medium to learn how the waves spawn, then changing to hard. I'm not sure how the experience/time spent compares to the first level on insane, but you'll generally get better gear in higher quantities than from the first level and it'll make things easier for the Christmas level.

For tips, blockades are cheap and expendable, so use them as such. For your weapon, level its physical damage and number of projectiles to increase your personal DPS. On the first level, you should have your towers focus on the lower ramp while you prioritize killing the 2-4 big enemies that spawn on the top ramp in waves 4-5. You might need a tower to assist you until you raise your weapon damage high enough. On the fourth level, the biggest issues are the bomber groups on waves 6-7 and the boss. Carefully placed lightning towers (the raised area on the left and right near the spawn door works, as most enemies will ignore it) can take out the majority of the bombers and blockades can soak the rest. For the boss, spread 4-6 deadly striker towers around the room pointing towards your crystal.

5. After two gifts, more won't appear, so end the round and start up a game again as before. Re-enable the spawn timer command by just pressing the up arrow to make it show. Kill yourself. Get that third gift to collect your coal.
Thanks for the guide - the console commands were handy. I managed to get all three gifts in one game, however. Maybe YMMV.
Damn, 7 coal turned into a 33% SEGA. ;(
7 = 50% of AtomZombie Smasher...I feel your pain. But I did win Hacker Evolution: Untold for putting ten items in my wishlist.

7 coal for me turned out to be 50% off Poker Night at the Inventory, which I got off the Telltale sale for like $1.50.
I really miss the Summer Sale meta game. Being able to choose prizes and plotting out what I wanted to work toward and which games to play toward that end was a lot more fun than filling my inventory with coal and coupons.

Still gameless at 13 coal and 7 coupons.
the coupons aren't very enticing since it seems most of these games will be as expensive or more after the holiday sale...

I enjoyed getting items in the summer sale for games I didn't even had but anticipated getting in the future. I could care less about these coupons and coal, and even the rare game, since it seems mostly indie games are given, and I own most of the good ones already.

Haul so far: 50% Gratuitous Space Battles, 50% Demolition inc, 50% Shadowgrounds, 50% Kings Bounty Platinum. Let me know if you want any of those, all garbage to me =/
Any thoughts on which Dungeon Defenders to get? Either the Amazon version for 3.74 that comes with some sort of exclusive DLC, or the Steam version as part of a 4 pack that I think also comes with some exclusive DLC for 2.81?

I know both versions register on Steam so I guess basically what I want to know is the free Amazon DLC better then the free DLC that comes with the 4 pack on Steam and is it worth a buck more?
Get it from steam. Amazon had it for $2 a few days ago, and I picked it up from there, and I sorta wish I'd have just waited and paid a bit more for the Steam version. The Amazon pet is just a dragon, similar to the other dragons you'll find/buy/get in the game. The Steam DLC is very different, and very unique.
Anyone looking to do the DD Xmas Achievement? I have a level 50 huntress, was close to soloing it last night but got dced from the servers. It was a little hairy though so I doubt I'd get through it completely on my own. Anyone else have a character and still need to get this finished? Add me on steam

Thanks again! You were a life saver pulling my level 12 butt through there. :) Which I was rewarded with a coal.

I have taken many notes, Master. Now to put them to practice.

Seriously though, I put all this into a Word Doc so once I get around to it I'll be ready to go.

Cool. Thanks for all the info. Just starting to get the hang of it. Hopefully, I'll have enough time to finish it before the end of the event! :)

Thanks OP. Got Dawn of War 2 and DoW2: Chaos Rising together for $15. Then I got Street Fighter IV for $5.

^ All are Games for Windows Live (Achievements :D)

Any opinions on the x series? I won the x super box from crafting and it looks really boring to me. I played x2 for about 30 minutes one day and couldn't get into it. Am I missing something?

Really hoping both Hoard and the Gundemonium collection are dailies tomorrow so I can buy them and do the cheevos so I don't need to worry about it anymore. Unless Steam pulls something amazing, next three days, just those games for me.

I really can't complain about this sale though, I got new indie games I would of never played otherwise, psychonauts, and avadon. Some really great games there and the best part is everything was $5 or under (Dejobaan complete pack was $5).

Although I discovered a problem in my life now. I have both Dungeon Defenders and The Old Republic, and well both are addicting, lol.

Did the Atom Zombie Smasher one with relative ease once I stopped running out of time on the first level. Got coal, of course. 14 objectives have yielded 12 coal, one worthless, one so-so, and one decent coupon. Not sure how I've got 15 things for 14 objectives, but I'm getting ready to punch someone over this.

EDIT: Also knocked off the "Everyone Played Braid" achievement from BIT.TRIP RUNNER, but don't know what that gets me until it comes up as a daily achievement.

I'm hoping the Gundemonium Collection is part of tomorrow's sale, too. $5 is still a great price so if it's not in for a second discount I'll probably still buy it tomorrow anyway. I have a lot of stuff going on this weekend and I want to get the achievements before Saturday.

C'mon, Gundemonium Collection! One bundle and three achievements!
Any recommendations on which of the Dungeon Defenders DLC is worth it since they are all on sale?
The Halloween Mission Pack and Warping Core Challenge Pack are both definitely worth it. They are challenging and net some really nice rewards. Additionally, the Halloween Mission Pack unlocks some new costumes for completing them.

The Turkey Hunt includes costumes as well, but it's a very gimmicky level. Once you get the costumes you want, it's unlikely you'll ever have any reason to do it again. It's pretty much a matter of how important the costumes are for you. Same goes for the Halloween Costume Pack.

As far as the New Heroes DLC goes, it's mostly a matter of opinion. For the most part, the New Heroes function relatively the same as their other gender counterparts. Where they differ is slightly in their starting stats (Ranger is slower and has more hp, vice versa for Huntress, for example) and their usable abilities. They have different strengths and weaknesses, so people differ on whether or not they're worth it. For my two cents, the price on the DLC is so low, I'd say just go for it so you can try all the classes and see which ones you prefer.

Hope that helps!

So I after trying out SPAZ's demo, I found it quite similar to another game I like: Space Rangers 2. One major difference, though, is that SPAZ is real-time combat while SR2 has a turn-based system. And you control more of a squadron in SPAZ while you're pretty much a lone wolf in SR2 (though you can have a companion or two if I remember correctly).

If you liked SPAZ, you will most likely like SR2. I notice that they uploaded some more screenshots for SR2 to represent it better (prior to this, they only had the screenshots of the RTS mini-game, which was an optional, albeit fun, part of SR2). I don't foresee SR2 being a daily deal, but who knows? And, personally, I would say just get SR2; only because SR1 plays exactly like SR2 but feels dated in comparison.

On a side note, this whole "present or coal" cheevos system has been interesting so far. 10 coals and 5 "meh" coupons later, SPAZ's cheevo gave me a nice "Homefront" (which makes me feel obligated to love the game now, lol). Kinda feels like I've won the lottery almost, when I'm seeing the "Great Gift Pile" haven't been as generous to others in this thread. Here's hoping that you guys will get something good out of this shenanigan!

TL;DR: Like/love SPAZ? Buy Space Rangers 2! :booty:

Question. Does anyone know of a site that lists the download sizes of Steam games, like before you buy them? This way I could plan out the end of my Steam sale because my connection is very shitty.

On the Steam games' store page under System Requirements it lists required HD space.

Just look the games up on thepiratebay, should be about the same size more or less.

Looks like the DLC on sale for Section 8 only works if you bought the vanilla game on Steam right? The Steam forum seems to suggest as much...that will show me for buying a PC game somewhere else! Even though I can buy the game+all DLC for cheaper than i paid at launch -_-

Some of the trading on the Steam forums is getting downright ridiculous. Either some people are incredibly desperate or just stupid ... offering things like the Ship for Two Worlds. Evidently some Steam users haven't figured out how to read the original price vs what they're offering in exchange.

I just tried getting the Aaaaaaah! achievement on my laptop with a trackpad at 4AM. Well...I got 4 stars on two levels, at least. =\

Steamcheeves has a registry file you can download for the achievement. I merged it before I started playing the game, but I didn't get the achievement. I've played every level in the DLC once, but no 4 star score updates appear. What do I have to do to get that to work?

27 (by my count, could be a couple more or less) games left on the steamcheeves list, with 18 to go for the gift pile, and probably only 16 will make it in if the easy-then-F2P free achievement style continues. Wonder what's going to be left out.

The toughest part of the Atom Zombie Smasher achievement for me was dealing with my framerate dropping to 6 on the first map while time ran the same. I found the game to be quite fun, and I'll be moving it from the backlog once the sale is over.

I created a category in my library called Holiday 2011 which currently has 17 titles in it, and about 3 of which come outta the BL sooner rather than later. I like that these events get people to not only buy new games but also play the ones they;ve had gathering virtual dust.

Right now, I don't loathe the coupons because I'm excited for the potential dailies stacking with them. But by the end of February if I haven't been able to stack, I'm sure my tune will have changed.
Come on RE5 for $5 ... it's been way too long in coming, hope it drops before the end of the sale.
I wish. Been hoping for Dead Rising 2 myself, but I don't think Capcom has had a daily the whole sale.

Thanks!

Can you "mix and match" the DDefenders DLC? Mainly I want to know if I don't have the new character pack, does that mean I can't play with my friend who does?

I hope that the achievement for Champions Online doesn't become "official". I have no idea what to do in the tutorial to pass it and the controls are horrible.

Do you think Bad Company 2 will be a daily? Would be great if they would put the summer sale price.(I know it's 5.99 on Amazon, does it activate on Steam?) Thanks.

I'm waiting for this too. Most likely it's not gonna happen. If Capcom decides to participate in the sales (the haven't discounted their games in some prior sales), 50% off seems to be the max, even if it's several years old. I would love to be proven wrong.

You're offered three different control configurations in the tutorial, did you try all three?

Took me over an hour to get the achievement - it's not a quick-grab affair at all. Much better if you actually play the game with the possibility of continuing to play in the back of your mind - trying out some powers, inventory items, having some fun.

Actually, now that I think about it, I must have spent at least twenty minutes in the character creator before I even started. :bouncy:

Won left 4 dead 2 and Dino d day. Which I have..,,.sent then to my friend who spends no time doing any achievements. Why can't I win something I don't have!!!

All I'm getting are 50% coupons...that don't work until after the sell is over (effectively making the coupon prices the same as the current sale prices). That kind of sucks...

I don't think you've thought it through. Say you've got a 50% off coupon for a game, and then in (say) February it's 50% off in a sale, that means you can then use your coupon to buy it for... 100% OFF!!!!!!!!
JOKING. ;)

Granted I've played the game in the past, but the achievement can be done in less than 15 minutes depending on how many people are gathering boxes as well. Whenever I have gone in, there hasnt been anyone else going after them yet so they are all just sitting there.

Choose the Unleashed Archtype.

Skip the tutorial. You are given this option when playing your character for the first time.

When you get to the game choose Flight as your travel power. Exit to the city and head west to the slums area.

Just fly around and pick up boxes that are away from enemy groups. Once you get enough presents just go back to the center of the city and use them on whoever happens to be there or walking by.

Also if anyone is really having a hard time I have quite a few boxes just sitting in my inventory if someone wants 10 of them to use to get the cheevo quick.

You cannot skip the tutorial unless you have a character on the account that already has done the achievement. It takes about ~2 hours to do it through.

Haha, I like this thought process, flawed as it may be! Steam needs to make this happen, lol!

Ah nm then... it had been so long since I loaded it up I had forgotten that part. Anyways I still have a bunch of presents left then if anyone makes it that far and needs some.
Pick up dead space 2.

They have not been on sale yet - I recall them going on sale a winter sale or two ago - but honestly can't remember them going on a deep discount in the past 12 months since EA and Steam decided to stop playing nice.

At $15 for the maximum edition - you really can't go wrong, it's one of the most critically acclaimed PC shooters to come around in years. And yes - it will allow your new rig to stretch its legs quite nicely.

Metro 2033 is supposed to be quite the rig killer.

Metro 2033 as someone mentioned. Also, The Witcher 2 on ultra settings (already on sale, though) and Batman: Arkham City on DX11 (also already already on sale) in case those come around again. Crysis: Maximum Edition will be on sale at some point for $10, and it's still a good system tester.

The Batman games.

Crysis 1
Battlefield 3
Metro 2033
STALKER
GTA4
Witcher 2
Shogun 2
Alot of these are quite enticing. I still haven't finished Dead Space so I will pass on 2 for now, though Amazon has it for 4.99. Metro 2033 was one I was really interested in, but I think both Amazon and Steam already had them on their daily sale.

I actually have STALKER, but it came out like 4 years ago so I thought it would be outdated by now?

The Crysis Max Edition is 7.49 on Amazon, great deal but not Steam right?

It doesn't quite work that way. It would be 50% off the sale price so in the scenario you gave 75%. However, I am all for feel good math and if it makes people happy with their coupons, awesome.

I would also like to speak with you about an unique business opportunity in finance. My friend is the Nigerean Prince and needs help cashing checks in the US. :p
