Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Civ V for $7.50 is definitely worth it.

Not sure about 2013, since I don't have it. 2012 allows you to remove cards in the base deck as you unlocked cards. I loved this feature, as I also hated that it couldn't be done in the original.
That's good to know. I haven't played with the deckbuilding in 2012 yet, but I was dreading playing with more than 60 cards (I remember when I thought more cards was always better, and I cringe from the memory). That's definitely a motivator to continue playing.
Is the learning curve for Magic 12 really difficult for someone who has absolutely no experience in these kind of card games?
From what I played of 2012, it is not particularly difficult as a means to learn how to play Magic: The Gathering. The UI lights up cards when you can play them, lands are tapped automatically to pay for spells, there's a prompt for when you don't place a land each turn, etc., so it helps you along with the basics. Each card has all of the descriptions for abilities written out on the cards, so you aren't left with a bunch of keywords and forced to consult a rulebook like you would if you played with real cards. Every time a new interaction happens, a tip box pops up to walk you through the steps of the interaction.

For minor complaints, the combat phase moves a bit quickly but you might be able to turn that off. If not, it lets you halt each phase indefinitely to give you time to think, so that isn't a real problem. Another minor complaint is that when the opponent(s) reveal cards, they tend to just flash the card and not give you a chance to read it. However, there is either a button or a location you can click on to actually read the card (I don't remember which, but the option is there).

As long as you're familiar with card games (games with a 52 card deck count) and have a desire to learn how to play Magic, I'd consider it a good way to learn how to play.
That is a reading comprehension failure on your part. You quoted me saying I did not purchase it, but had it in my cart on the place your order screen. That's as far as I went because I decided not to purchase it.

In case you were wondering why I didn't reply in affirmation to sunghost's post, I felt that his reply was a sufficient conclusion to the matter that my l did not disagree with and felt that no further input was needed. I write my posts in a blunt, matter-of-fact, nonchalant, etc. manner, so it made sense to me when I read it. If it read differently to you or anyone else, I apologize.
Anyway, that's enough negativity on the subject. Back to discussing the steam deals (or non-deals, whichever way each individual leans toward).
You said you put it in your cart you never said if you did or didn't buy it. You make 4 posts in a short period of time (and directly taunting people hoping on the Giana vote) making ridiculous and unproven claims of a mythical lowest price ever. You finally confirm that you didn't even buy it.

In failure you try and switch focus to "Steam Sales" which there is large consensus in the thead that the're really nothing to discuss.
Regarding Civ V, the experience is much better now. Actually feels like a properly built game. Singleplayer is where it's at, despite being billed as "amazing multiplayer experience". You'll enjoy V.

You have set decks that are in the game, with different colors/themes. You play matches and unlock cards with each victory. You can then modify your decks. You unlock say 20 or so cards, and you can have minimum 60 cards in the deck, just like the real thing.

I used to play MtG all the time and LOVE playing it on xbox (same as this pc version). What I like about it is that I can play online with others and not lose instantly to some guy who spent $1,000 on cards I'll never have.
Recall that the Civ IV improved greatly with the expansions. Civ IV today is much better regarded than Civ IV near release (though it did benefit from following after Civ III).
I'm glad I didn't ask for nor receive Steam gift certificates.
This is the last year I do that. I'm putting my gaming funds in Paypal from now on. I'm not putting my whole gaming funds in one basket. While I don't think the Steam sale sucks this year it's not wise to commit to just one store. EVERYONE has delivered so far this winter sale. But the big winner is gamersgate. No one will beat that deal.
The engineer class lets you run around with a flamethrower. Just sayin' :D
Wow. You're making it hard for me to resist GW2. If only I didn't have such a huge backlog...

I cry myself to sleep while the 3 big receipts on my desk filled with gift codes laugh at me.

I really appreciate the detailed response. I've always wanted to give it a try- it's just that I don't know if I have the patience to learn a new trick. I did branch out to give Civ 5 a chance and ended up really enjoying it. I spent a lot of time with it despite never playing a strategy game. So, I'll probably buy Magic 12.
This is what has me curious. Been thinking of trying it with all the PC GOTY awards I've seen it get, but I wasn't the biggest fan of the 1st and I have a ton of other games to play. Thoughts? I assu,me it doesn't really drop in price often since that's how NCSoft gets paid to run it?
If you weren't a fan of the first I can't see how it would be that much different. I only tried a bit of GW1 and I liked it, but my roommate is a big fan of the games, got the Collector's Edition and all that. Seems to be just doing what a good sequel should do, building on what GW1 did right and making it better then before. The price is pretty damn good too, lowest it goes will be $20 and that'll be a while.

Anyone ever buy one of the Batman games from Amazon where they were region locked from buying it on Steam? Friend of mine is curious if he'd be able to activate the code.
Well... there's still... ten more days to go in the Steam sale... you never know... okay, probably not.
I'm sad that Steam dropped the achievement/prize minigame that they had going for Summer 2011/Winter 2011 (possibly other dates as well, I don't recall exactly). It gave me something to look forward to on Steam even when the Steam sales for the day were lackluster, and I found a few gems that I otherwise would not have played had the game not been featured.

This straight-up sale is bland, considering that there are several other major sales going on alongside the Steam sale. I still appreciate the Steam sale (I got a few games that I've been wanting), but now it's just another sale.
That's weird, I always thought you were I mean your friend was in the states.
I am. Funny enough it is actually a non US friend that wants to know and not some shameful proxy for myself. Personally I'm not a huge fan of the Batman stuff (heresy I know).

I thought GFWL blocks certain countries? Or do they just Amazon block it which means they just tell you you can't use it but don't check at all and let you lie and say you are in Canada if you're really in Zimbabwe or whatever?

That's a lot of lying, fraudulent info giving and getting one's friend to get it for you etc etc for one Batman game. :p
In before new flash deals are bad. :D
If it's your first Steam sale, the flash deals aren't all that bad. Also, was thinking, Steam's subscriber base has probably been expanding with all of these places offering up Steam keys this year and for those people who aren't CAGs (like your average Amazon shopper whose idea of a deal is a little different from ours) and they probably get all kinds of excited at 50% off.

They just do not allow selling the games in certain countries. You just have to select one of the available countries when registering a GFWL. They do not even check ips.

About lying.... well, fuck them. Everybody in the world deserves to play the beautiful game that is Batman. GFWL is one of the most retarded things ever, and it prevents a lot of people to buy awesome games.

I was more poking fun at all the nay saying about the sale thus far. In fact I am pleased by one new flash deal. Gonna grab the awesomenauts dlc.

New deals:

Awesomenautes 4.99
TF2 Holiday Pack 19.99
Eve Retribution 9.99

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

also, deals apparently end in 10 days, 19hours and 55 minutes. Probably not final pricing, hopefully it broke.

That Awesomenauts price was before the deal rolled over. It's $3.39 now or $6.79 for a 3 pack.

The 3 pack is actually a decent deal if you split costs.

I want to take your avatar out behind a middle school and get it pregnant.

Meh I think I'll just wait for Awesomenauts to be in an indie bundle as that developer's previous game has been in two. The other flash deals... what a joke.

Ten years ago, maybe. Then WoW was released. Then MMOs became uncool.

WTF is with this winter sale? Shit man most of the regular daily deals and weekend sales are better than this thing has been. Who shit in the punchbowl at the Valve/Steam HQ comapny party to warrant this type of treatment?
Third party DRM: Steam

I'm a fool! ain't see that ... thanks!

Being a Capcom game, is the best price one could get... ever
True dat.
I'm looking at Devil May Cry 4... http://store.steampowered.com/app/45700/

According to videos, is an awesome game. Is better than Darksiders 2? (can get it around 8 for the full franchise with amazon coupon, but still didn't finished DS1). I know on GMG is around $5, but I don't know about the DRM and... is not steam
They are not exactly the same genre, imo. I wouldn't compare Blades of Time to Darksiders either. That said DMC4 is a great game and its PC port is good. DMC and BoT are strictly about the straight up action.

If you like God of War or Blades of Time DMC4 is an easy recommend. If you like Darksiders there's a fair chance you'll like DMC4.
LOL @ Hats being a flash deal.
I agree, says the poster who also got excited about having a hat made for his avatar. ;)
Does anyone see Dead light and/or Hotline Miami in a future humble bundle?
Hotline is going to be on Amazon's best of 2012 sale next month. It will be at least $5 then and quite possibly less at some point. Note that you will need to have bought at least one game from Amazon digital in the last few weeks to get the $5 discount. But even if you haven't lots of people around here have a bajillion extras so you can probably get someone to get you a copy of it on the cheap.

It has tits.

DMC4 > DS2

I mean, they're both great! AKA I've only played a little bit of DMC4. ;)

I believe Amazon has price matched the normal steam sale until now, so, in the first 5 days of January, one can buy it for 2.5$ with the coupon.

Because it's impossible to enjoy the game as it was released.
