Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Analogue was pretty fun, though I didn't like how everything ended. At the very least I respect games whose developers had a message to speak towards, even if they are not always delivered in the best method.

I currently have eXceed in my cart as well, along with Freedom Force (please, we really needed some games repeated 3-4 times between daily, flash and community, yet this one only showed up once on a community vote and lost...)

yeah i'm a perfectionist in stealth games and i'm super happy about the pc load times with it installed on my ssd

in all fairness the difference in graphics between console and pc is significantly greater with battlefield 3 and borderlands 2 than dishonored
(i couldn't believe borderlands 2 looked so bad on console - its fucking cell-shaded)
Um, I'm pretty sure the PC version is vastly superior to the console version graphically as well, just like any other PC/console graphical comparison. I'm fairly certain the X360 version doesn't run at 1080p with AA.
Prototype Bundle 8.02 (stupid taxes lol)
Steam
bad words ahead
Painkiller Hell & Damnation 4.99
Death Rally (once the sale is over) using my 90% off coupon 1.00
well shit thought this was gonna be easy but apparently I've bought 84 games since November after going through email receipts

guess this was a good holiday after all :bouncy:

*Sigh*

And I was about to write at the end of that comment "And please don't post a low-res Youtube video comparing the low-res console and higher-res PC versions, as you cannot tell the difference in 1080p (or higher) and 720p (or lower) in a 720p (or lower) compressed video," but I incorrectly assumed I didn't have to.

Whats TWD?

The Walking Dead game?

Anyone have any opinions on whether any of the Sleeping Dogs DLC are worth getting? In particular, I was looking at the Dragon Master Pack since that one includes missions rather than just cosmetic stuff I have no interest in.

I own dishonored and on my four year old GTX 260 the graphics @ 1920x1200 are better than anything the 360/PS3 can do. That said, it has more cartoony graphics, so the difference between PC and console is certainly smaller than say Sleeping Dogs, Batman AC, or Skyrim.

The video I posted was 1080p. Yes it had some compression being on Youtube, but I definitely kept the resolution bit in in mind...

That said, decided to buy it and graphics played the least role in it. Thinking back on my first bit playing on the 360 and how the attempt to stealth play and load frustrated me is what definitely pushed me in the direction. Then I decided the potential for mods (who knows, maybe something good will come out) and usually cheaper DLC helped push it further.
Lastly though, the possibility of using a trainer is, oddly, what pushed me over. I've noticed lately that, as my time has become more restricted (I work over 80hrs/wk), my interest in doing mundane in game tasks to earn things like money, etc has waned. Yet, my OCD nature in a game like this would FORCE me to search out the runes, wishbones, etc. I will sometimes literally keep a guide open on a tablet while playing a game sometimes to ensure I don't miss them, but my desire to not waste my minimal time means that exploring for stuff like that often feels less than satisfying. A trainer is a nice compromise for stuff like that. For example, my enjoyment of Borderlands 2 increased EXPONENTIALLY once I didn't feel the compulsion to search every crate, box, etc for money and guns. I was able to play the game and not have to pause the parts I enjoyed every 2 mins to go on a mind-numbing box click-a-thon... I could just play the part of the game that was fun.
**If there are puzzles, etc to find runes I'm more than willing to hunt them out, but usually games just have them squirreled away in some out of the way corner.
Hoorah for $7.50 TWD on Amazon.
Speculation for now as Tony hasn't confirmed he will price match it if it goes on sale on Steam. He HAS said that he has his own sale for it planned no matter, though has not mentioned a price other than a wink.

Is Botanicula worth a bite at $2.49 (75% off)? Critics loved it, but my backlog is huge, and includes other adventure games (including TWD), so can anyone offer an opinion on it? I know it's been in a HiB last summer, but I missed it.

Do I pull the trigger on Defender's Quest at 66% off at 5.10 or wait? I'm thinking wait... My backlog is ridiculous.

My haul thus far:

This is one of the few things that I've really been waiting for. I've already beaten it before, and with my backlog, I can easily wait. But this and an awesome price for FO3:GOTY are the only games that I would absolutely have to buy for a great price. Anything else could just wait.

Lmfao Motoki, you've gifted me Doom Rails twice now. It doesn't show up in my games library because I still have it in my inventory.

I am going through my list and trying to find some more vict...err, 'friends' to share it with.
Why has UBIsoft ignored The Settlers 7 for patching out the always online requirement?
Because they suck? Because that big announcement about easing up on the DRM was either PR bullshit to improve their image, does not apply retroactively and/or simply means they are moving to F2P with microtransactions in the future like everyone else and their grandmother is doing?

They haven't removed it from HAWX 2 either which I would be more pissed off about if I didn't buy it for a dollar.

They also haven't removed the outrages Tages with 3 activation limit on Anno 2070 even though that game also required UPlay as DRM anyway.

Is the Daedalic bundle worth getting? I want all of the games within the bundle, but after spending $20 on the Strategy First bundle, it's hard to justify dropping $18 on a bundle with far less games, even if they are likely to be far better.
Oh and I guess I was wrong about Sanctum. I'm probably the only guy here who would welcome a flash deal on Sanctum. But it'll be on sale again sometime over the next 2 months.
I always have nothing but praise for Sanctum. When it was a coal objective a year ago, I played it for the first time, and it was the game I went back to continue when the sale concluded. I later rebought it in a complete pack for the (then) full DLC, and then another time for my wife's Steam account to give co-op a go. The soundtrack is excellent.

That said, I don't need to see it as a flash deal. I bought the latest DLC when it was (surprisingly) fully discounted during the last sale.

Ah, Pyst. Rare is the lampoon that becomes great in its own right.
I wonder if all the other games that are not encores will remain discounted until the 7th as well.
I know this has been addressed a million times already, but I'm not going to chance waiting out the clock on something that wasn't otherwise discounted. Things that were up for a vote and failed, there you can make an argument, but it seems clear that they're going to limit the extension to bestsellers.

By the way Tsel I realize some people here have this obsessive need to keep everything they aren't playing right this second in their inventory or as an unredeemed key until the exact second they are ready to play it, but it's a 74 cent game that someone gifted you for free, twice over now apparently. I'm at a loss for why someone would feel such a need to hold onto such thing as an inventory item.

If you don't want it just re-gift it like fruitcake. :p

Lol I actually bought myself a copy right when the sale happened, but then you gifted me one, so I was just planning on gifting away my copy and keeping yours. Now I have three copies of Doom Rails in my inventory. I don't usually keep things in my inventory. I'm only doing this until the sale is over.

Oh geeze.

Too much Doom rails. Just like fruitcake.

I need to find 2 more people myself...

And yeah if you guys don't redeem your, err, 'hidden gems' then you risk me gifting them to you again. ;)
Did it hit 75% off at some point? I recall seeing it at 66% off as a flash sale but that's it. It's an instant buy for me if it hits 75% off ($2.50).
I was hoping for 75% off [Symphony.] It was the only deal that I was specifically hoping for. It's hard for me to justify 66% off though, given that it's an indie game and my past experiences buying indie games during Steam sales. (For anyone who didn't guess, they were in indie bundles within a few weeks.)

That's not quite the same as giving copies away.

I'd feel like I'm insulting the person who gifted me the game if I were to put it into my inventory (unless I had a key for the game floating around or something similar.)

Message received. I just added Coconut Queen to my library. I didn't realize that it bothered you having it there in my inventory. I just forgot it was there after a while. I apologize for that.

Thank you for the gift.

I apologize as well, Motoki, but I had every intention of redeeming it once the sale ended. I was just hoarding everything in my inventory as a way to see everything that I've bought in one handy dandy place.

The best is gifting someone Final Fantasy XI and having them go through the atrocious patching/setup/Square-Enix account stuff. It happened to me. I would've rather had a kick to the groin.
