Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I finished Binary Domain yesterday (which is a fun cover shooter, more satisfying as a game than Spec Ops), and it occurred to me, does anyone else sometimes just focus on finishing a game on their backlog so they can move on to the next, basically only playing that game until it's done, without necessarily enjoying themselves in the process? It wasn't the case with BD, but I noticed that sometimes on other games.

Today's deal is Puddle at 50% off ($4.99)

price hasn't updated yet

Which site is Enhanced Steam pulling price data from? The extension is reporting no price history, but steamprices.com shows it as $8 on sale previously.

edit: Nevermind, found it. I wonder why steamgameprices doesn't have it tracked.

So, I played "don't take it personally, babe, it just ain't your story" (same dev as Analogue: A Hate Story) and I haven't laughed that much from playing a VN (or anything else really) in a long time. The story isn't serious, but the characters and dialogue (especially all the discussions on amieconnect and 12channel) are great. I suggest anyone that loves humor and visual novels to give it a try.

You know what you guys? It was my money that I paid. Without a product being delivered or knowing what was going on for weeks.

If I want to complain about NOT BEING GIVEN A PRODUCT OR A REFUND AND BEING KEPT IN THE DARK and then after giving MORE THAN AMPLE TIME AND TRYING TO COMMUNICATE WITH NO ANSWER FOR OVER A WEEK do a chargeback, I will. And Fox or Provis or Blade or anyone else can just kiss my ass and join the ignore list if they don't like it.

I don't know what bug crawled up all of your asses but it's generally not acceptable to take someone's money, not give a product, not give a refund and be vague and unclear about what is going on or what is intended.

I am sorry some people are so butthurt that Gamersgate got called to task for this but that is to be expected.

I didn't mean to single anyone out. Sorry if we offended you. I understand why many took the actions that they did and Gamersgate is by no means innocent. They handled it very poorly which is what I was trying to make fun of and not any of their consumers. Sorry.

Yeah, I've done this before, and probably will again. I'm enjoying Dishonored at the moment, but there's definitely an underlying feeling of "must get this finished" so that I can move onto something new. But my backlog is so large, I'm not sure I'll ever get rid of that feeling, honestly.

Just as a note, it is free from the developer's website. Not on Steam as far as I know.

Don't worry about it. Motoki has some sort of victim complex and thinks every post about about Gamersgate, Steam, or anything else is about him.

True, I should've mentioned that, but I've seen it mentioned a few times here before so I figured people might already know. Digital - A Love Story is also free on the dev's site, but I personally can't recommend that one.. didn't do much for me (although the design choices were pretty cool/interesting)
Check the level of detail you have selected, the game is *very* vram hungry.

My laptop can run the game on high at a pretty much constant 35+ fps, but I get the crashes even on low settings with pretty much anything fancy turned off.

Checked the steam forum, and there's a thread about the crashing, been going on since august or whatever with no real solution yet.

So whatever, five bucks is five bucks, I'm just glad I didn't pay near full price for this game.

]Youtube in general is a pet peeve of mine. Now everyone and their grandmother can make a video and post it for all the world to see but the amount of people are able to make a
good, informative, concise video seems very low.
It's not just for games either. Every time I watch a video where someone spends half of it going 'umm' 'uhh' or spends 3 minutes wiggling a mouse I want to stab someone.
I don't have the patience for it. I'd rather just read some text.

This! Text you can skim, video you can't. Youtube needs to make the play at 1.5x / 2x standard.

You mention an enjoyable game, and you don't note that it's free. Isn't there some standard punishment for that on CAG?!?

New Indie Gala is pretty solid. Imagine a lot of CAGers probably have the likes of Trine and Magicka but I think I might bite simply for Deponia if the average drops enough, or there's some happy hour shenanigans.
Don't worry about it. Motoki has some sort of victim complex and thinks every post about about Gamersgate, Steam, or anything else is about him.
It's not a victim complex when you guys are making a generalized mockery of everyone in that situation. I don't get it, either. Would you be totally cool if it happened to you? You're that relaxed with your money?
This! Text you can skim, video you can't. Youtube needs to make the play at 1.5x / 2x standard.
But I can put the video on in the background while I do something else. Reading requires my full attention, a video can play in my peripheral while I listen to the Dev's commentary.

I guess it's a different strokes type of thing, but I have a strong preference towards the videos.

Edit: Fool attention? Seriously? I don't think much of myself...

It did happen to me and I guess I just didnt find it anything worth being that upset about. I didnt realize people were so sore about it. Either way its not worth dwelling on now and as I said, I'll drop it.

Edit: And also I still dont have my keys or my money or a discount for the record.

To be fair I kinda thought of Motoki when the comment was made, though that is likely because he just yesterday announced he was escalating a Paypal dispute. But I've also consciously avoided places outside of CAG where people might be ranting on this issue.

This thread got awful serious all of a sudden.

Anyways, this week's edition of This Week I Have Mostly Been Playing is "This Week I Have Mostly Been Playing Arkham City". I type this for no other reason than to grumble about the fact that I had to replay around an hour of content
the interference/jammers thing, confrontation with The Penguin, Solomon Grundy
because SOMEBODY lost my save progress.

I won't say whose fault it is, but it probably starts with G and ends with ames For Windows Live.

p.s. Other than that it's excellent, but we already knew that.

p.p.s. I'd heard about save files going missing, but I just put myself in the "It won't happen to me" crowd

Why So Serious?

(Dude, you set it up too perfectly, not taking it would've been a crime.)

Do you know how many videos I've had to watch of baby pandas trying to climb their way out of their cribs?

When I first started dating my girlfriend, I said, "Don't be a sad panda" for some some reason. She, having never seen South Park, thought it was a term of endearment, and I've never had the heart to tell her otherwise. Needless to say, now she's got a thing for pandas.

So... We were arguing about project greenlight needing better videos, correct? I'm right, you're wrong, who is buying the beer? (Note: I don't actually drink beer. Smirnoff Ice, please.)

Wait, what.

The Journey Down: Chapter 1 is now on Steam and 20% off ($5.59) until January 16th.

In a shady corner of Kingsport Bay, at the outskirts of St Armando, Bwana and his trusted sidekick Kito struggle to make ends meet at their run-down gas station. Little do they know that they are about to be thrown into a spine-tingling adventure that will take them far from home and right into a twisting plot of corruption and danger.
Genre: Adventure

It was in a bundle, but I haven't heard any word on them giving Steam keys to buyers.

Also new, Droid Assault at 20% off ($7.99).

Play Droid Assault and experience running blaster battles with hordes of rampaging killer robots! Discover a unique tactical arcade shooter, with the fun addictive gameplay of 8-bit classics. You'll need your wits and the help of your acquired droid squad to stay alive in this fast-paced retro actionfest.
Genre: Action, Indie

It's from Puppy Games (Revenge of the Titans, Titan Attacks) so you know exactly what it looks like.

Nice! Thanks for the info about Droid Assault. I got it free from Puppy Games a while back, and used this page to get a Steam key:

The Journey Down was in IR's summer bundle with Gundemonium Collection.

I can't believe no one has posted the steambox prototype being shown at CES.

Yeah, lousy photo, from the engadget staff -- their photographic incompetence makes me wonder how many photos that take with the camera pointing the wrong way.

Hoping for Steam keys for IR Summer purchase. It looks like a unique setting for an adventure game.

Does anybody know much about Dungeonland? I'm wondering whether anyone here was in the beta. It looks like it might be kind-of a cool update to Dungeon Keeper because a solo player can be the Dungeon Maestro (I guess "Dungeon Master" is either taken or associated with S&M?).

And on another side note, Chaos Chronicles looks pretty cool. As far as German RPGs go, I've only played the first Drakensang game, but I thought it was quite well-done.

Yep, but it's interesting in contrast to the speculation pic (based on partner) that showed some custom enclosure smaller than a roll of toilet paper.

According to Engadget, there are multiple different versions with different form factors to better fit your individual living room.

What I still don't get is why I need this, you could probably just buy a really big monitor for what this is going to cost you. I don't see why PC gaming needs to be in the living room, hell, most of the people I know don't do their console gaming in the living room anymore (gaming rooms represent).

I still find it hard to believe that Steam will actually produce the hardware. I think they will partner with several vendors to develop the hardware or partner with someone in particular to build it for them.

You probably don't. I expect it is aimed at people who own consoles and buy their PCs from Dell or Apple.

First world problems. Live in a single room, and you don't need to worry about the silly living room/gaming room, will it match the curtains? decisions.

Different form factors makes sense. Part of PC Gaming culture is to DiY. I wonder how well this will translate. My guess it will appeal to a completely different set of users and not existing steam users.

I have my main gaming pc hooked up only to my TV and its how I prefer to game. Some games dont translate well but most work just as good or better. I've yet to find anything recent that I just couldnt play at all. Some older games the UI is way too small to read from 8 feet away on a 60 inch TV @ 1080P. For those I've had to lower resolution or sit closer. I just find it more enjoyable to sit back on a couch next to my wife and game vs sitting at a desk.

No they won't. They'll partner with someone and slap Gabe's face with on it, err Steam branding.

It's actually a kind of interesting time to do this since the PS3 & 360 are so old.

For playing DVDs/Blurays/etc? I mean, I'm sure most of us have a billion devices to play that sorta stuff on, but for mainstream competition with XBox and PS3, you'll need some sort of optical media playback to make it more than just a console.

Yes, things with an apple logo.

Yup love the HIB.

The amount of Magicka DLC is huge. Almost like they threw one into this bundle be here you go so you know the DLC is there.

The amount of Magika DLC is alot but still pales in comparison to train simulator though lol.

That's what actually pushed me over the top, that they included the Vietnam DLC as I had vaguely heard about it before and I remember at the time that it sounded bonkers, a Vietnam addon for a wizardry game.

Probably for those few dozen steamworks games that come with a cd when you buy them retail. I prefer to pop in a cd rather than wait for download (assuming the prices are close).
All information so far on Steam boxes has been both unsurprising and not impressive at all. To me at least.
Yeah, it's in a weird place. "Real" PC gamers aren't going to be impressed by a gimpy little computer but I don't know how much name-power Steam has outside that class. No one who is a dedicated console player seems likely to say "Wow, a Steam box!". 12 year old kids won't be asking for a Steam box for Christmas. The idea that it's more computer-y than a straight console seems like it would worry/deter the "Just want it to work" set versus the proven console alternatives (God forbid they know just enough to get scared at the word "Linux"). I'm sure there's some number of Steam users who think this would be the bee's knees but it feels like a real niche product, not a "take the world by storm and revolutionize gaming" sort of thing.

But then I thought the iPad looked like a big silly iPhone so no one should listen to me about any tech predictions.

The steambox runs on Linux. Normal retail releases are windows. I would also expect that Steam wants you to buy/gift through Steam in order to maximize their profits. People are already somewhat used to these online only models (e.g. iOS Appstore, Netflix). Also keeping it all in their ecosystem reduces problems. It's not hard to imagine someone QQing on twitter that they came home from the Store with AssCred 4 and steam won't install from DVD.

That's what I find most confusing about it, they're building this device for an outside audience that is probably going to be largely loyal to their Xboxes and Playstations. The loyal Steam audience is likely already set with custom built gaming rigs.

I'm not saying it's wrong to play it in your living room, just that most people I know don't. Either they have dedicated desks to game on cause they're MMO addicts, or they have all of their consoles & PC hooked up in the same area where they do their designated gaming. I, for example, have my gaming PC, my 360, and my PS3 within a foot of each other. My brother-in-law and most of my friends have similar set ups. I think it's like the geek version of having a suped up car.
