Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
It seems that quite a few of us preferred the tickets.

(That said, I actually got better prizes - AB2 & Defense Grid DLC - from the summer camp than I did last winter - loads of coal and that basketball manager game.)
I did get more into the wheeling and dealing during the coal mining event though. It was fun to make lots of trades all over the place.
You almost had me buying it, until I realized that they're still releasing it... I thought the comic was already done. I'll get it eventually.

Decisions, decisions.... might pickup the second compedium to which I'm assuming will start pretty much where we're at now in the TV show.
There is (supposedly) no planned conclusion for TWD: the comic. It's meant to carry on as long as they can, and with the show and game riding high, they've got a lot of issues left in them.

As a reader of the series though, I kind of like how the first season of the show was playing with our expectations, even with things as small as the first few minutes, with the circumstances of Rick getting wounded. I guess they can't help but follow the very broad strokes of the book, but the first season had characters pulled in from what was going on at that moment in the book, didn't end in the same place, etc. I just think it's nice when they can make a new version its own take on a topic. Like Hitchhiker's Guide in its many incarnations.
Lone Survivor looks good for $4. I picked it up. Anybody play it here? Asking for opinions after I bought it might be strange, but whatever.
I always look at that one and then can't quite tell what the hell it is, and end up passing.
Well, crap. I owned Lone Survivor from Humble Bundle V, but it was in the bonus content that I never redeemed for some reason. So now I own it twice. Oh well.
I just had a great idea for what you could do with your second, burdensome copy!
TWD: Buy it now, but from Gamefly. Using the HOLIDAY20 code it is $10. It activates on Steam so there is no difference other than price.
Thanks man, missed this deal and feel alot better about $10.00, in case of a bigger discount later on.
Someone talk me out of SFII:AE please...
Capcom is evil now, all the DLC are skin packs, and the game is free on PS+ right now. Don't do it!! (Aw hell, who are we kidding, you already bought it didn't you?)
Anyone know what happens if you now try to finish up a 2nd pending order of the Bethusda bundle from GG if you already have one?

Will it still go through at the price ordered? Since they don't have serials, what do you get? How does it show up?
They'll take your money. You get it added to your account, and an apology as screenshotted earlier in this thread. Presumably, sometime next month, you get some games.
steam has to step it up if they want to get my money, the daily deals have been very underwhelming so far. I mean look at the prices of today's featured indie games, most if not all of those have already been in some bundle at some point
This seems like a very CAG-world problem. There are loads of gamers who didn't get every bundle over the past few years for whichever reason. No reason they should have to go and pay list price for something. Just because Portal was free once doesn't mean I'm not glad it's on sale now, when I want to give it as a gift.
Lost's excuse for the ending sucking.
And while I'm being argumentative, and haven't even seen Lost, does a bad last episode really invalidate a whole series that you liked? I'm sure there's some scale to balance somewhere, but even poor seasons of a show (almost nothing has a good season 7) don't wipe out the good years, IMO. The beginning of Homicide, or BSG, remain fine viewing.

Also, is there any kind of over-arcing mystery type of TV show that has ever concluded in a satisfying way? I don't think I've ever seen it, if there is. It's practically part of the genre.

Binary Domain is tempting, but I've been holding out for $5. Waiting for Sonic Generations to hit that price as well.

Was there ever a STALKER game in a bundle? For the longest time, I kept thinking I owned one of them, but they're not in my library. Probably just confused it with something else.

I'm always left scratching my head whenever people talk about a flash/daily selection "taking up the spot" for a supposedly more worthy title. Does anyone actually think that another game would get an additional discount were it not for the photo editing application being there? Before the sale starts, Valve works out the discounts with publishers. Either the game is on sale at its best price for the full duration or it's given a worse price initially and then showcased at the approved sale price once or twice (or more) during the sale. Anyone who thinks one of their wishlisted games could have appeared cheaper had Valve decided to put it into a flash sale isn't grasping things right.

Although I will concede that being showcased as a flash/daily gives a greater possibility of an ephemeral pricing error getting through as when Terraria was $2.49 right after release.
Ha ha, reminds me of those Mario choose your own adventure books, which had some rather dark, horrific endings for the age audiences they were targeting.
YES! Those books presented a far more perilous Mario world than the games or cartoons ever did. If I recall, they were based off of the Mario comics, including the characters of the king and his adviser. Wooster, was it?
And while I'm being argumentative, and haven't even seen Lost, does a bad last episode really invalidate a whole series that you liked?
Unfortunately, yes. It made the entire story arc completely useless and nonsensical. Normally I'd agree with you completely, but Lost is the exception.

In all seriousness, I was one of a bunch of people who nerdraged over the ending in the Sci-Fi SyFy forums and made Ron Moore's wife drag his ass to the PC to explain himself. ;)
Was there ever a STALKER game in a bundle? For the longest time, I kept thinking I owned one of them, but they're not in my library. Probably just confused it with something else.
I own Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl and I have no idea how, so it must've been in some bundle.

Also, by the buy, I'm picking up a portal pack as a present.

I might go grab that gamefly walking dead, to see if I can put together the telltale pack I need for less than they were charging for a new one, but I'm not feeling all that excited about the sheer collection of more things I'm not going to get to for ages.

So ditto on Dragon Age. I've heard it's nice, but it seems like a bad deal if I'm not going to drop a million hours into it this year.

I guess I don't know anything about Binary Domain. I think I thought it was Hard Reset.

Amazon's THQ bundle included SoC.

I picked up mine in Amazon's THQ Medley pack

I have to agree with asheskitty - If you haven't played SR3 and have the bloodsucker pack - you are much better off disabling it. You'll have more money than you know what to do with anyway (without the mod) and the Rep unlocks make the game waaayy too easy. The blood-drink health restore gets old very quick and removes any and all challenge from the game.
is saints row the third controller enabled?
yep
Edit: It's so controller-enabled that you never even have to touch your mouse after launching the game. :)
I'm back! Did I miss some zany deal of the century?!?!
metro 2033 was 4.99 on gmg for a couple hours , but now you're outta luck pal
are the stalker games any good?
I think the first and the third (the two in the pack) are pretty damn impressive, both from a gameplay and from a story/ambiance/setting aspect. The second one is still fun for me, but that is because I just really enjoy the series, and it does help expand on the story.

That said, the first one (SoC) has a high learning curve and is very difficult. It is the anti-thesis of MW/COD/TF2 run and gun style. You're going to have to use iron sights much of the game, guns handle realistically, you can't carry everything you can find, you can die in a split second to some things if you charge in, and on more than one occasion you may very well crap your pants in fear, especially if you play at night in the dark.

If you buy them, strongly consider using the STALKER Complete mods for each one. Lots of bug/gameplay fixes/enhancements.
I guess I don't know anything about Binary Domain. I think I thought it was Hard Reset.
Binary Domain was EXCELLENT. I picked it up at $9.99 for 360 during Microsoft's sale, and honestly hate sega for not advertising it stronger. Excellent third person shooter, swarms of robots and really intense boss fights, its basically Mass Effect gaming meets Terminator 2/I Robot cinema meets JRPG dialogue and story. Amazing game, can't talk it up enough, way way under-rated.

Lol, posted a code for The Binding of Isaac yesterday, and looks unused....

They stopped that nonsense. They don't run holiday sales anymore.

Damn. I was hoping to finally get Magicka for cheap. Like 50% off cheap. That'd be a steal!
Would anyone recommend Anno 2070? I've been eyeing it for quite some time...
DRM aside, the game is excellent and very fun if you dig those types of games. It is also very pretty much. I bought the Deep Sea expansion and look forward to playing that later on, spent a lot of time playing Ace of Spades today lol

Ever played an Anno game? They are like a 4x game without the combat really. You just build your society and gain access to better technology while having to balance things. I really like it for when I want to play a 4x type of game but I don't want to fight/war against others.

I didn't like the ending either, but at least I did finally find the closure that I wanted.
Been wanting to pick that one up too.... but the low critic reviews are scaring me away!! :(
The game itself, by all accounts, is decent. Where the backlash is coming into play is that it has 2-3 layers of DRM depending on where you buy it and one of the layers has limited activations.

It has Tages with a limited number of activations, which apparently regenerate after a month or some nonsense but WHY? There is no need when you have...

UPlay. The game also requires Uplay no matter where you get it from. UPlay already verifies that you own the game so there is absolutely no need for Tages other than it was made by Germans who along with the French (Cyanide anyone?) seem to have a fixation for holding onto the archaic old disc based DRM for dear life even though pirates have it cracked in 5 minutes.

Note that UPlay's servers have had issues and down times but I believe you can run this game with UPlay in offline mode. You do have to have activated it and run it at least once via UPlay though. If you never played it and then pick a time to start when UPlay's servers happen to be down you will be SOL so if you buy it make sure you activate it right away and set UPlay to offline mode. I think there may be some features you don't get in UPlay offline mode though. At very least Ubi achievements but maybe some other stuff too. Not sure on this.

If you buy it on Steam it also has Steam as DRM to verify you own it. Now I'm sure most of us here are fine with Steam as DRM with this being the Steam thread and all. What's not so fine is if Steam already acts as DRM verifying you own the game then why does it need more DRM?

If you are fine with all that DRM and you enjoy this sort of genre then go for it. I can't vouch personally because I absolutely refuse to spend money something with such a ridiculous amount of DRM but everything I've read about it is that if you get past all that nonsense the game itself is supposed to be good.

I think you will find most of the negative reviews are because of the outrageous, draconian DRM, and rightly so in my opinion.

Ubisoft made a huge PR grandstand about how they were supposedly easing up on the DRM etc etc not too long ago but I have yet to see them put this in action. It apparently does not apply retroactively to their existing games.
The bad thing is I can't stop playing Legend of Grimrock. That game is a masterpiece, a work of art... a work of love. Memories of Lands of Lore, Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder... all these games are inside Grimrock... and I dare to say it improves the genre. Really LOVE it!!
Eye of the Beholder 2 was one of my first loves CRPG loves... I need to get to this.
Compare those prices to the ones we have now. While yes, most of those same packs have one or two more games in them now, it doesn't make the current publisher packs any less meh; and that also sums up quite a lot of the current sales done so far, in my opinion.
I really don't understand the decision not to include a percentage off designation on the Publisher packs. I thought the marketing psychology behind that was solid.
It's definitely not the game for everyone. It really rides that line between game and choose-your-own-adventure as tight as possible. I feel it is more of the latter, with so called traditional gameplay mechanics thrown in. If you're going in for a more modern style zombie genre game, you might be disappointed, but if you're entering for a heartfelt zombie adventure...you're in for a treat. IMO

It's definitely overrated, same for the show (although the game and show are pretty different). I may also be the minority, but I think it's kinda crazy when I see people say it was GOTY.

That's not to say I didn't enjoy it, because I did, but I think people give TWD WAY too much credit.
I went into playing TWD knowing the gameplay and not expecting something like an FPS. But I have been really put off by the poor writing. It completely pales in comparison to the comic's and even the show's. Even understanding the limitations of what's basically a point-and-click adventure I found myself smacking my forehead once too often at some of the dialogue, the narrative, and ham-handed plot devices. It looks great, though.
Try as I might, I just have never been able to get into comics / graphic novels, I've always found them an awkward half-measure between fully animated TV / films and novels/short stories.
I may have felt that way at some point, especially growing up with superhero spandex comics, but there are some true gems out there outside of that sphere. Also, too much of the literature that covers the same kind of fictional settings/scenarios is really cringeworthy.
Is Killing Floor worth it?
IMO: Definitely.
I did get more into the wheeling and dealing during the coal mining event though. It was fun to make lots of trades all over the place.
Although I've done a fair bit, I hate trading. The majority of the people seem to think their games are worth base price, while mine are only worth sale price.
Binary Domain is tempting, but I've been holding out for $5.
This. Especially with how many of the GMG sales are repeats lately, it wouldn't surprise me if we saw $6.24 before coupon there in the not to distant.
Damn, I was tying to come up with a way regs would get it.
What is the best way to do that these days? I put up a list with pm request for keys and only got one response. PMing is kind of a pain I know compared to just being able to grab a key from a post but I had no takers on games that I have since seen posted (and claimed) here with keys.

FYI Cheapy just said in the other thread that the HOLIDAY20 code at gamefly is dead, though they still have HOLIDAY10 (10%) active at this point.

I hope everyone got the games they wanted there already.

Posting it to the Steam feed seemed to work pretty well for me. Of course you need to actually have a bajillion Steam friends for that to really work. And you need to put the actual keys in a reply because you can't edit the original post. You can't edit the reply either but you can delete it once everyone (presumably your friends won't ninja you) replies that they took a particular code.

Actually, now that I think about it, Steam's feed and group posting systems are rather archaic, limited and a pain in the ass. Hmm...

Think Killing Floor would still be fun solo? My girlfriend won't go for the gory gruesome games, and I don't really have PC gaming friends, they're all Xbox.

I was able to get the Bethesda Pack from a fellow CAG. I already have a huge backlog, and I know I want to keep Skyrim and Dishonored. Are the other games worth keeping? Or should I just sell them to for $15-20 or so. Also, would it be fine if I sold SR3 for the Humble Bundle for $3 or so, because I would rather get it off of Steam with all the DLC. I remember it being frowned upon previously when people were reselling the bundle.

It wouldn't be very fun solo, but there are plenty of public servers to play in. People are generally friendly, at least in my experience.
