Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
In other SPUF news, people are panicking that THQ pre-order games will get bought be EA and yanked off of Steam.

Part of me almost wants to pay the crazy expensive pre-order prices for Company of Heroes 2, Metro Last Light and maybe even South Park in the fear that they might get yanked before they make it in but maybe they'll honor pre-orders?

Yes, I'm being neurotic but I don't want to miss a window to get games on Steam. :p
I hope that doesn't end up being the case. I'm not completely averse to Origin, but I definitely don't load it up often. (After completing Dead Space 2, Origin has been in hibernation on my hard drive.) I'm definitely going to keep my eyes on those titles, and, hopefully, that scenario won't play out.

Sacred 2 doesn't really take itself seriously. They even play parts of that song in the opening cinematics. A cinematic that includes Tit Angels and Cyborg Anubis.
So apparently there was some crazy Arma II bundle multiple discount stacking price glitch that we missed. How did this happen? I don't even want it but price mistake? I'm there! :p

Of course it kind of depended on owning some of those games already to get the 90% off so that would count me out.

Kinda like those 15 people that own prey on steam

GG was selling Steam keys for it a couple of years back.
Hey I own prey on steam
Me too. There are probably a lot of people actually. At some point the ability to register retail copies of prey was added, and they had prey for $2 at one point in the early days of steam sales.

Oh yeah? I've got Steam Mobile Access sitting in my inventory, but I'm not letting it go until someone offers XCOM and Skyrim.
I see your Steam Mobile Access with my own and raise you a Community Beta Access and Super Monday Night Combat.

Wasn't that the sale where they ran out of Prey keys and never got more back in stock?

Ever.

Speed Demo Archive is running their marathon all week. A speed run of Batman: AC just started.
Twitch
They just finished a NES Batman race and had a NES Ninja Gaiden race a bit earlier. THEY ARE CRAZY!

Well I just checked the Steam registry and it looks like CoH2 early beta access is going to hit any minute now so I think it's safe.

No clue about Metro Last Light or South Park though. Those aren't available for Pre-order on Steam, just coming soon. THQ has pre-orders up on their site but I don't see it explicitly mentioned as Steam somewhere so I supposed they could always hand you a shiny new Origin key when those release.

None of those games strike me as fitting with EA that much, at least not Origin exclusive stuff, which has all had a large multiplayer component. If EA is going after anything they're probably going after stuff like Saint's Row. CoH has MP but EA can't even keep the RTS franchise they already own afloat, I can't see them wanting another right now.

I actually don't think THQ even owns the Metro IP or the developer either, which would likely mean if EA bought it, it'd just be the publishing rights and it might be like Amalur and just be a partners release.

I think it will ultimately come down it if a game was built to be a steamworks game. Even if EA or some company did buy the franchise It still might have to come out on steam just for that fact.
Re: The Steambox.

I think the good news from the consumer end is that you have a very lucrative company with a dominant share of the digital download market pushing for Linux viability. Possible benefits:

* Breaking up the near virtual monopoly Microsoft has with Windows and forgoing people's need to pay for an OS (Steam's massive market leverage will force a lot of AAA publishers to start making Linux versions).

* Make 'PC Gaming' more affordable to people who exclusive/majority play on consoles. Of course this all depends on how much it will cost and what exactly is included hardware-wise.

* Drive down the price of PC components, GPU, etc (dependent on the point above).
My only wish is that they allow the Steam Workshop to work on the Steambox as well... and increase the Max mod filesize limit!

As for the OS argument though - as long as Linux is still as unfriendly as it is (I use it on a server, and there's no way an average (ie non-techie) person who's used to using Windows could use it); people won't switch. Just adding an app dock would do wonders for distros...

But having game devs making games for linux can only be a good thing.

If they don't release South Park on steam then I'm definitely cancelling my preorder with amazon - I wouldn't trust EA with a 10 ft pole.

I wonder though - what if Valve bought the license to Saints Row (Maybe Gabe was a fan of that video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4P0Dnlx_Mg) Or Metro?

CD Project RED would be the best folks (GOG.com) to pick up Metro. It feels like a perfect fit for what they actually develop/publish.

I could get down w/ Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light sold DRM-FREE on GOG.com ;)

I think EA Would take South Park in a second. They probably figure they will make tons of cash off the name alone.

You mean DRM Free after you register your Steam key on GOG :D.

Why would they think they'd make a ton of money off the SP brand? There's been multiple games with the franchise attached that have not sold well and have been critical flops. Even a massive show like Family Guy just had a game come out and nobody bought it. Licensed stuff rarely sells games on the license alone, save for stuff aimed at very young children.

Reason why people have hope for this one is because Obsidian is the dev, and while their games might lack some polish, they always make very good to at worst decent games. Plus I believe Tray and Matt wrote everything for the game and have been active with it.

I know these things, but they have little to do with what was posted. He said EA would buy it simply for the franchise. The average person that makes their purchasing decisions based on things like that are not the type of people that know who Obsidian is or that Matt and Trey had a hand in the game this time.

I'm sure the game will be decent, but that really doesn't mean it'll sell generally speaking.

YES! I'd love that! :D

I think I'm the opposite of people here. I downvote almost everything on Greenlight. Most of this stuff looks pretty poor and I wouldn't even want it for cheap.

I had no idea you were speaking to anyone directly since you didn't quote anyone. It looked like you were just making a general statement.

I use the mindset that if I would buy it at "full price" I Yes it, if not it gets a No. By those standards I suppose I probably downvote more than most.

I give Yes to a lot of things because if stuff like Hidden Object Games are managing to get on here WITHOUT greenlight, then I'd say there's a pretty large chunk of stuff I'd be okay with getting a shot as well even if I'm not personally interested.

To be fair, there are very few people outside of the circus or a construction site that I would trust to do anything safe or useful with a 10 foot pole.

Matt & Trey combined with Obsidian doesn't actually add anything for me.

To me Obsidian is a company that you can count on for good writing. It's the implementation of their gameplay systems that always goes off the deep end. They do some of the best writing out there already (New Vegas, Alpha Protocol, etc.).

It's like Pynchon and Vonnegut collaborating to record a folk album.

At least I know the lyrics will be good, I guess?

Classic Gabe trolling!

yeah same I get no sound in the fucking game except sound effects like rain and such, no voices from the actors... I checked settings and everything then all of a sudden the game becomes windowed and it's no longer fullscreen out of nowhere... meh... what a waste of $5 can't even play the damn thing.

Yeah I was going to say by those standards I don't think most people here would vote for their favorite game ever.

That said, I do wish the Greenlight people would at least put up their guesstimated price they'd like to sell it for (and yes I know it's subject to negotiation with Valve).

I mean there's normal $5-$10-ish Indie pricing and then there's you have to be fucking kidding me Cladun X2 pricing.

Obsidian makes decent games for the most part. I say most part because to me Dungeon Siege 3 was a bore fest for me but still a competent game (as in it wasn't bad, just didn't hold my interest). Now New Vegas on the other hand.... I love that game.

Even if Tray and Matt did write everything after these last few seasons of South Park I don't think I could touch this game. South Park has burned me that bad. It was painful for me .

They should do another flash sale on the old sports game they carry.

I remember buying MLB 2k9, MLB 2k10 and MLB Manager for $1.99 a few years back. Still probably one of the best flash sales I purchased, that wasn't a price glitch at least lol.
Pretty sure this isn't the right place to ask, but this morning (after leaving my computer on all night, first time in awhile) I saw some random java certification check. I clicked 'no' to dismiss it and quickly ran Malwarebytes. Apparently I have spyware.zeus file located on Chivalry Medieval Warfare folder in my main Steam folder (named as testshellex.exe). I'm not sure how I got infected, and this is the first time since I had this computer that I've ever picked up on something through anti-virus/spyware scan. Anyone else run into this problem with Chivalry? Tried google searching for 'testshellex.exe' pointed me to bunch of Russian sites.
I don't know if anyone replied to this, but I googled and it's a false positive according to MWB:

A "This has been in a bundle!" notification would be great but no idea how you'd implement that.

The way I see it, downvoting games on Greenlight just because you don't plan to buy them is a dick move. If it's not something I want, I just don't upvote it and move on. It seems like games have a hard enough time getting greenlit as it is, so there's no reason to go out of your way to take a dump in their punch bowl.

My understanding is that "negative" votes don't count against a game, only positive votes count for it. The question is now phrased "Would you buy this?" so if you say yes it gets a point in its favor, if you say no, it just removes it from your voting list and moves on.

I would verify that you have the latest GPU drivers for your system. Sounds like a driver issue.

If that's the case and there's no harm done, it's not so bad then. I was under the impression that negative votes would push the game even farther away from the possibility of being greenlighted...and that just seems excessively harsh.
A "This has been in a bundle!" notification would be great but no idea how you'd implement that.
The Indie Game Bundle Wiki maybe?

Not sure how easy it is to auto grab info from there though since it's not really tied to a Steam ID for a particular game.

There does seem to be a 'buy this game on Steam' link to the game on Steam with the ID in the url on each particular game's wiki page though.

What about a return on the number of open drawings on Steamgifts with a link to search returns for it? Or would that just be unnecessary bloat for most people? I probably wouldn't use said feature myself, just throwing out ideas.
