Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I guess I have been on this site too long and become too much of a cheap bastard because I think it's friggin expensive even with the sale for that sort of game.

I'm on their mailing list and they sent a notice out about the Steam sale saying "If you haven't yet grabbed it, this is the cheapest you'll get it!" and I just thought I guess they don't want a lot of sales.

I think eventually they'll cave and go cheaper and/or in a bundle but if not I'll live without out. I'm not paying over $5 for something that looks like an NES game.
So I've decided that I'm going to start my own site which (on the surface) will just look like an advertisement for the Enhanced Steam plugin. On the back end of the site, I'll be doing some PHP magic to pull in data on each game like if it's been in a bundle or not, pricing history, DRM info, etc etc. There are a lot of great sites out there that already have a large chunk of this data, but this will bring it all into a single spot and will make it easy for me to implement all kinds of cool new features in Enhanced Steam.

For now, I just have a bit of homepage set up, but more is coming soon. Check it out and let me know what you guys think:

http://www.enhancedsteam.com/

:)
I like the site. It explains the extension really well and with pictures. :)

The only thing I'd say is maybe put up a forum of blog or support ticket system or something for suggestions and issues, but I imagine that's something coming soon in the help or FAQ etc.

You might want to contact flibitijibibo and see if he can get you his list in some format you can work with.

I know he's got a github site up here: https://github.com/SteamList/SteamDRM

Maintaining the lists sounds like a good idea. The one that no one has done yet outside of forum posts that I think would be extremely useful would be to separate DLC into categories of content/cosmetic/early unlocks. There's a growing number of games with non-content DLC and it's often difficult to discern that just from looking at them on Steam.
You work is great! I have a gaming blog, aiming at Latin people (like me) mainly and I want to mention your work there, with a dedicated link on the side in the "recommended" section if you allow me.
Yeah that'd be awesome. I'm also thinking about doing a Youtube video / screencast so people can see what exactly it does, and putting that on the site as well. The more people that know about this and use it, the happier I'll be. :D

Thanks I'll give those things a shot. What I'm hoping to do is maintain a database / wiki with all of the relevant information for each Steam App ID, and create a PHP page that will spit the elements I need for the plugin out in XML on the back end. Adding new feature sets would be as easy as creating a new XML class and populating the relevant tables. I'll probably have some sort of contact / report form on the site where people can submit new low prices / DLC categorization / DRM / whatever, where it will be moderated, approved, and merged into the main database.

I can't get the site to work at all on two different computers in different locations. It displays a main page but with no working links, no pictures beyond the main page, etc.

Is this still a placeholder site? I was going to link to it elsewhere but don't want to give people an immediately negative impression with a "broken" site.

Yeah I guess I should have mentioned it will probably be a "placeholder" site until tonight or tomorrow. Last night I just got the style, layout, and basic mainpage content put in place. ;)

Ok, cool. I just wanted to make sure the "error" was that it wasn't ready yet as opposed to it being broken. Like I said, I didn't want to immediately make people think the extension must be crap since this guy can't even make a working link ;)

I think that's the most reasonable option because then you don't have to do all the exhaustive work of hunting down info for every single game yourself but you still have control over the data and there's no question about a bunch of random people having editing rights or connecting to 3rd party sites and whatnot.
Did you guys catch this one?

Free coupon: 85% off Serious Sam 3: BFE

na.alienwarearena(dot)com/deal/85-off-serious-sam-3-bfe
Just did that too.
How much is it after coupon?
Currently, $5.99 after coupon. However, the coupon is good until May 1st, so if the price drops between now and then (likely) or it goes on sale (also likely) it could be even cheaper.

I have the same problem with Deus Ex Human Revolution. I stopped playing it because of Borderlands 2....
Ha!

You want to talk half-finished games.

Try Deus Ex.

The first one.

And Baldur's Gate 2.

And Skies of Arcadia.

And King's Quest 3.

And Stationfall.

And a number of others over the years that tended to be interrupted by some trip or event or something, or get backed up during a system update and then, for whatever reason, got shuffled behind other games. I've got backed up saves for most of them, but it's been long enough that I wouldn't remember where I was or what I was doing.

Borderlands 2 is having an event weekend in anticipation of the upcoming 3rd DLC campaign (Jan 15th). Here's the info on today's fun:

""Gear up for the release of Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt -- the third campaign add-on for Borderlands 2, arriving January 15 -- with special in-game events this weekend!
The festivities begin today, January 11, with Vault Hunters reporting that various areas of Pandora have seen an influx of powerful shotguns. To join in the fun, simply boot up Borderlands 2 while connected to the internet before the supply runs dry -- based on current conditions, expect the excess to be exhausted at 10:55AM CST / 4:55PM GMT on Saturday, January 12 (What time is that for me?).
What will tomorrow bring? Check back on GearboxSoftware.com at 11AM CST / 5PM GMT (What time is that for me?) to find out!""
Ha!

You should really finish the first Deus Ex. That game, Clive Barker's Undying, No One Lives Forever, and Redneck Rampage are pretty much responsible for the disappearance of my late teens.

I still haven't finished Duke Nukem 3D. I've realized that after all these years, I really don't like hunting for key cards anymore. I did finish Duke Nukem Forever, though. So there's obviously no accounting for quality in my case.

Unfortunately it won't stack with other discounts. A price drop would be nice though.

Anyone doing this, can you let me know if you need to just log in and you're flagged with a reward or if you need to actively enter the game? I've been doing BL1 first and so never actually played BL2, just log in now and then for my Shift code redemptions.

I added a link in the OP to Enhanced Steam.

(I don't know why but it still isn't working for me. It did work until the update that asked for permissions. I've deleted it a few times and re-added it, reinstalled Chrome, updated ES versions. Is there a way that I can make sure I gave it the right permissions? It bums me out!)

The daily deal is Viking at $5.09. Probably the lowest price outside of a bundle so far. Amazon may price match.

Edit: Huh, lower elsewhere, see above^^ My plug in isn't working, heh.

No One Lives Forever is still on my top ten games ever list, a list which I think only has about six confirmed entries. So there.

On topic, Retro City Rampage feels like ADHD infected top down GTA with nothing in the way of actually fun gameplay. GTA:CW styles all over it.

Quick question...

I've just won Assassins Creed III for cheap on eBay (yay!) and I have played and completed Assassins Creed I & II. Is it okay to play III now, or should I play Brotherhood and Revelations before playing III (dunno if the story will make no sense if I don't play them)

You should at least play Brotherhood. Best in the series in my opinion.

Thanks for adding it to the OP! I was going to do it myself but didn't want to seem presumptuous.

That's a really weird issue you're having. I assume since you removed / reinstalled Chrome that you have the latest version. It requires at least Chrome version 22. If you want to try again, remove Chrome. Then go to

%localappdata%\Google\Chrome\User Data

and make sure that the directory is empty. Now re-install Chrome and re-add the extension. Hopefully it works.

Also, are you signed in to Chrome Sync, or no? It should work either way, but that version also implemented the "cloud settings" for Chrome Sync. It should fall back to just "local settings" if you're not signed in though...

Let me know if that helps, if not I can look a little deeper...
Thanks for adding it to the OP! I was going to do it myself but didn't want to seem presumptuous.
So modest. =P

What you did/are doing is HUGE along the lines of making the store easier to navigate. That's 125,433 less clicks I have to make when I'm checking if I own a game or not.

You've done and are doing a great job, and you should recognize that that yourself. Good job. :applause:
You should at least play Brotherhood. Best in the series in my opinion.
Yes. Spent way more time in Brotherhood than any other. Revelations is mostly concerned with Desmond, plot-wise, so if you really want to play AC3 soon, I would give Brotherhood a chance first and then just read the plot summary for Revelations.

Not sure how this works. I just booted up to add the Shift code and then just went in game for a few minutes. Nothing popped up showing I unlocked anything so I wonder if I have to go find a loot box to get the special shotgun?
I don't think it's shame on you. I did all of the guild stuff, and barely touched the story. I got to the part where they teach dragontongue or whatever (it's not a spoiler, it's like the second story mission.)

I have the same problem with Deus Ex Human Revolution. I stopped playing it because of Borderlands 2, then Dishonored kept me from going right back to it, and now since the game saved right at this super hard boss, I don't really remember how to play, and I'm stuck on the boss. As a result, I quit playing that, and I think I'm literally half-way through the game. The boss is
the female who charges at you over and over again, drives me crazy
.
If you have the points, throw them into Typhoon.

Two fully leveled Typhoons will take down every boss in that game. It's sort of cheap, but the bosses in Deus Ex: HR are terrible, so it's an easy way to bypass that headache.

OK, working now! I deleted Chrome and the folder off another laptop which may have syncing problems (I don't know what I'm talking about, but I certainly can mess things up!) and it works now.

I tried switching to Chrome since the Enhanced Steam breaks the Steam website for me on Firefox, but Chrome doesn't have a good working Keepass extension. So it seems I am doomed to using dual browsers for now.

I just played about 40 minutes of BL2 right now (chest looting, badass killing) and got a bunch of shotguns, but nothing quite noteworthy. What I took from it was you just get more shotguns, but i could be wrong. Maybe I need to play longer to get it?

Thanks. I won't worry about it then. If it was trivial then I would have gone and done it but if it requires actual playing, I can safely pass over it and get to BL2 in my own sweet time.

I'm pretty sure the event is an increased drop chance on shotguns. Here's the thread from the BL2 forums about todays "event".

Here's a list of unique shotguns & who drops them. Maybe, just maybe, I can finally get a Conference Call to drop.

Thanks for the heads-up on the event and upcoming DLC. My buddy who I ran through most of the game with is ridiculously lucky, and got a CC the first time he helped me beat the main boss, and got a Bee shield after just 10 farming attempts. Then he goes ahead and starts using a trainer, so pfffff.

I've spent the last hour and a half playing Chivalry. I honestly don't know where the time went. It's like the fun part of Mount & Blade mixed up with the teenage angst of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Cracking game.

Awesome. Honestly, when the GMG Rep posted the gameplay vid it put me over the edge for it and then it went on sale on GG - game over :)

Guys, quick question for those that play steam games from external hard drive... Do you use the one that require ac power? Or will a portable version good enough? Planning to getting wd's my passport to finally get more gaming done. Any advice?

Unless it connects via eSATA or USB3, it's going to be horribly slow.

The new my passport is usb 3.0 but it does not have direct power source except through the computer port. Will that be slow?
The new my passport is usb 3.0 but it does not have direct power source except through the computer port. Will that be slow?
Unless that're using an awful drive, it should be faster than any USB2 version.

The 2.5" externals usually use drives similar to those found in low/mid-range laptops, so it should be fine. However, it will be slower than a 3.5" USB3/eSATA external (more so if compared to with the Seagate 3.5" ones which AFAIK don't use slower "green"-type drives like WD does.)
The new my passport is usb 3.0 but it does not have direct power source except through the computer port. Will that be slow?
As long as you have a USB3 port on your computer, it should be fast enough. If you don't, then it will just connect at USB2.0 speeds and will be slow.

Right. Don't assume because your drive is USB 3 that the PC you connect it to will be. At this point 90% of PCs don't have USB3. If you check the USB slots on your PC and they aren't blue then it's probably not 3.0 compliant.
Your site is looking awesome, jshackles. Did you make it from scratch, or did you use some sort of webpage template?
Thanks! I'm working on moving the hosting at the moment so it might be down for a few hours :( It started as a template but I've customized the color scheme / css / buttons / etc to make it not suck. ;)

Also, this:

It's not going to work 100% on everything, but hopefully will be pretty close!
