Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V7! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

Since the V6 thread, we've decided to leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Summer sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 5/20

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Double Fine games are on sale at GMG.

Still not low enough for me to double dip on brutal legend. I played it on 360 and its well worth that price but not for a game I already played through.

First half of that game is brilliant, last half of it not so much but I imagine the second part plays better on pc.
I stand corrected. Sort of an FU to GMG though, lol.

Still too high for me since I have the other DF games. Wait for that average to drop.
Ditto. Only one I don't have is Brutal Legend. If anyone wants to sell a BTA key for reasonable prices I'm all in though.
Any of the NFS games worth grabbing?
I highly recommend NFS: Hot Pursuit. I love Criterion's racers (Burnout and NFS: Most Wanted 2012 being the other big ones), and Hot Pursuit just has a ton of content that I still go back to years later. It's on the more arcade-y side of the fence (as opposed to the Shift series that plays a bit more like Forza or Gran Turismo), which makes it easy to jump into races. The open world is pretty big (bigger than Burout Paradise, not quite as big as Test Drive Unlimited) and both the cop and racer sides have their own progression system. This was also one of the first games to use Autolog; if you have friends playing the game, their best times will show up for each race that they've done and they'll get a message in their game when you beat their time.

I gave up on the BTA and just cheaped out with a buck. On the other hand, between that and the GG Clancy bundle, I have seven new games today for 86¢ each so it's a good day for cheap-assedness.
Would have BTA on the Double Fine bundle if it had included Iron Brigade :(
Microsoft published it and owns the IP. I don't see it happening. A few months ago Amazon did a Microsoft Steam bundle with Toy Soldiers, Iron Brigade, Mark of the Ninja, Deadlight, and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet for $10. Maybe something like that will come around again.
Actually technically Magicka IS on sale, but it a freebie with the Showdown Effect deluxe version. So there you go Drabelincoln.
Ha! I thought you were kidding but sure enough it is right there on the digital deluxe items list.

Hey Past Me. You're pretty awesome.

Dare I even ask this...
Why would the 2nd part actually play better on the PC?

Brutal Legend is a brawler/open-world/RTS hybrid, and the heavy RTS elements are loaded on the back half of the game.
I'm kind of wondering how bad 'Undercover' is for $2.49
I played part of Undercover. Never finished it.
From what I played, Undercover was nowhere as awesome as Most Wanted 2005, Carbon, or Hot Pursuit 2010.
Undercover felt more like a stand-alone expansion for Most Wanted 2005.
My goodness! Serious Sam again?! SS is turning into the next Magicka.
Waiting for the Serious Sam X Magicka crossover game now... ;)

It looks like Skyrim droped another $10 to $29.99 today on all major digital platforms. You people made me search for both Skyrim and Skyram to see if it'd been mentioned...

That puts it under $20 at 75% off for all content.

Supposedly the GOTY edition is coming in June for ~$40.

(Aside from the fact it goes on sale all the time) not surprised to see the Sam games as a deal -- apparently the fan made Serious Sam Revolution will be coming to Steam soon. It's essentially a repackaged Serious Sam First + Second Encounter (using the non HD engine) with various community tweaks, new multiplayer maps, etc. I'm assuming it'll be free.
If this thread turns into something like the front page of r/gaming, so help me God....
I apologize. I won't continue, it was such a good find for me I was super jazzed.
lol
Love it!
DF bundle

https://www.humblebundle.com/
The average will most likely only go up, and higher than any previous HB. With the $35 and $70 tiers people have more incentive than ever to pay. I got it for $10, superstoked (third copy of Psychonauts).
Moments like these give validity to steam haters
It happens pretty rarely and even when it does it lasts like an hour or less most of the time.

When the Steam community is down you still have access to your games. Might have issue with some of their multiplayer titles but -- surprise -- that happens with any multiplayer service on occasion.
Today's deal is The Showdown Effect at 50% off ($4.99 or $14.99 4-pack)
The Digital Deluxe is also on sale. $9.99 or $29.99 4-pack

Midweek Madness
Serious Sam games including the complete pack at 80% off
Need for Speed Franchise is 75% off
Hot Pursuit - $4.99
SHIFT - $4.99
Shift 2 Unleashed - $4.99
Undercover - $2.49

I'm assuming that 75% is as low as the NFS games go and that there isn't/won't be some pack of all 3 of them for cheaper etc?

Also, Ashes I'm sure you talked about them before but how are the NFS games? Minus Most Wanted which I might actually buy if EA got over themselves and let Steam sell the damned DLC so the game could be sold there.
Yeah these are the bottom prices that I recall off the top of my head. Undercover, Shift 1 &2 have been in a Tony bundle that came out to the same or a little less, iirc.

NFS: Hot Pursuit (2010) is the clear buy here. It's a great game by Criterion (of Burnout, and it shows a bit) with a large map and a good bit of variety. Totally worth $5 (I paid $15-25 for it a couple weeks after release). It's one of the NFS titles I've gone back to a few times. Best NFS since Most Wanted (2005) imo. The drift mechanics are a very refined arcade-fun. There's also a fun run-from cops mode as well as a be the cops mode. The weapons bit is somewhat reminiscent of Spy Hunter (2001) (yes, MysterD, another fun car game, have you played it?).

NFS: Undercover is competent, worth the $2.50. My complaint with it was that it didn't challenge me, however I suspect many CAGs would be satisfied with the difficulty level. (I don't like to rank #1 on a track I'm driving the first time... too often.)

NFS: Shift 1 & 2 are odd. Shift 2 is reportedly a straight rehash of 1; my comments are mostly based on Shift 1. If you're asking me about it, you probably should skip these two. These are about racing on tracks and trying to ackwardly straddle the Sim/Arcade racer divide. (Something I feel TDU2, GRID, and Dirt 1 & 2 acheive on higher difficulty settings.) The physics out of the box is pretty whacked, cars feel/act exceedingly light, the AI is smash-you-aggressive (appropriate for a Burnout title not a Sim/cade racer). Supposedly if you tweak it enough there's a good game somewhere down there. Apparently I didn't spend enough time tweaking it -- I had better car games to play.

None of these have performance issues and ran just fine on my GTX 260. All of them support a 360 controller.
I'm kind of wondering how bad 'Undercover' is for $2.49
It's not bad. It didn't challenge me enough. I'd say give it a shot.
What did I tell you Ashes?! WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT BRUTAL LEGEND?! Tell me I am right.
FOUR CENTS CHEAPER WHOO!!! ...if I can scrounge up another penny, wanna go 50/50 with me on a stick of gum?
THAT'S A WHOLE 0.5% LESS ...dropping like a feather in a vacuum ...in zero gravity.

...at this rate it'll be $5 by August.

Yes, it felt like a forgotten (and unremarkable) middle child from NFS U2/MW2005/Carbon family. I'm really curious why you didn't finish.

No great sales for a bit to self medicate with I guess...

@Ashes

I didn't finish Undercover b/c one of the missions I just couldn't get through for some reason, if I recall correctly.

Never played Spy Hunter 2001.

Yet you finished RRU... that doesn't make sense...

Keep an eye out for Spy Hunter 2001. I'm not sure how well it's held up though, decently I'd imagine.
I have Spy Hunter on the NES. Does that count?
So do I. And Apple ][. And Palm Pilot. And MAME ROM.

The 2001 remake is a spiritual sucessor, 3D game with different gameplay. The PC (and Mac release -- yes, I own and played the Mac release) are missing a motorcycle segment that the PS2 release had iirc.

I've had Stacking in my inventory, rather than added to my account, in the event that it appears in a bundle. May go in at a dollar to get the soundtracks for Psychonauts. But then, already owning the other games, I may as well just activate the inventory copy of Stacking and pass on the Humble key.

Agreed that it would be a nice bonus to see The Cave added.

I don't know, but I loved it back when it came out

Trials Evolution Gold Edition, a PC version combining both XBLA releases, apparently now has a demo and will be 25% off May 9 - 13 bringing it to $14.99 from $19.99.

The game is less than 2 months old, but if they're trying to attract attention on Steam I don't think 25% off is going to do it. Hopefully this Thursday to Monday sale doesn't take a Weekend spot.
