review of Uncharted 2 that absolutely mirrors my thoughts about the game. It may contain spoilers of how many locales exist in the game (so if that bothers you, don't read it), but it confirmed my fears of exactly what I was seeing. I'm not in love with the urban environments at all and looks like you play through them quite a bit. They feel tired and old; nothing like the creativity from the first game.
I hate to sound like a broken record, but I had such passion for the first game that this one has been a major letdown and in my spare time I don't find myself leaping at every chance to play again like I did with the first. To quote the review, ". . .its biggest sin is not living up to the promise of
Uncharted 1."[/QUOTE]
I didn't agree with that review at all. It seems like they're intentionally going against the grain to try to drum up hits.
But the problem is that if you want a game that tells a great story and does interesting new things with gameplay, Uncharted 2 can't hold a candle to Brutal Legend or Batman: Arkham Asylum...
Uncharted 2 isn't about inventing new ways of playing games, and I don't necessarily agree that Brutal Legend or Batman:AA did either. Uncharted 2 was all about taking what made the first game so great, and refining and building upon that, which it did incredibly well. That is what the developers were telling us all along.
Think of any element from the first game and compare it to the same thing in the second. In all cases, it got better.
Also, I think the story was great, and the storytelling was done better than any previous game.
