We won't get a proper sequel until after RPG Thread VIII-2!
What do you RPG folks think of Dark Cloud & Dark Cloud 2?
I never played Dark Cloud, but Dark Cloud 2 was okay. The gameplay was kind of fun but the story was terrible and the characters unlikeable. At least that's how I felt about the game.
Kimarhi in FFX was the worst case of an under-leveled char I've ever experienced. I never used him.
For me he still got more play than Quina from FFIX, the only time Quina was in combat was during the part where you are forced to have Quina in your party.

Sophia from Star Ocean: Till the End of Time also literally never got used, my friend asked me if I used her as a healer when I played through that game and I was like, I don't even remember using her and so I booted up my save file and she was still at the level that she is when she joins you.

I liked Dark Cloud 1 and 2 back in the day. Both were really long games. Even without the 100 level bonus dungeon. (That i never attempted). I thiink the second one was harder. Really remember getting stuk on some of the city building puzzles and doing alot of farming for crystals to level up weapons. I think it fored you to use secondary characters at some parts.

Rogue Galaxy was a big, epic and long action RPG. And pretty un-remarkable. 3/4th of the game i just kept going. Is this over yet?
I think it fored you to use secondary characters at some parts.
Yes, it did, for dungeons they would have locks where it would pick a character and that was the only one you could use, and that was kind of broken too because Max's robot was way better as a secondary ability than Monica's monster transformation (although I think the only transformation I had, all the way up to beating the game, was the very first one you got because it wasn't all that clear how to get more).
And upcoming,
Radiant Historia
I heard Radiant Historia is the greatest JRPG ever made.

it's like the Citizen Kane of jrpgs.

hype!!
I heard Chrono Cross is the greatest JRPG ever made.

I'd have to agree.

Chrono Cross was a great game. They tried something very different with the gameplay, which is what hurt the game's place in history... but story wise? The game was really interesting and fun to play.

Then again, I took Amblix's post to be a commentary on the conceptual similarities between the titles, rather than saying Chrono Cross was the best Jrpg ever - I suppose Amblix is the only one who knows for sure!
Actually I never played Trigger. ;)
It's on the DS, go get it and play it. You're banned from the thread until you do. =P

No worries, I never played FFIV.

Didn't care for Two Worlds II. Good thing I Gameflyed it.

A buddy and I are thinking of ordering Two Worlds 2 to play on our system link. :bouncy:

Chrono Cross is a steaming pile of shit compared to Trigger. Honestly, Trigger is really really short by today's standards (I was surprised when I replayed it, as I remember it being significantly longer), so just do it! :D

Don't let my comments discourage you. It wasn't bad, just not my cup-o-tea.
I've actually completed like 6 or 7 DS games in 4 years.

It'd probably be 2 months or so before I beat it. :p
Chop chop!

I tried so hard to defend Amblix... But now I need to get my torch and pitchfork too.

If you enjoy RPGs and you HAVEN'T played Chrono Trigger, you are seriously missing out. Get to it, lady!
Doesn't look to great, it'd also probably be lost in backlog oblivion for awhile.
Eh...

CT wasn't my favorite RPG on the SNES, but it's definitely worth a play. A lot better than it looks, and the story is top tier.

And it has some of the best music, especially Frog's theme.
Doesn't look to great,
What is this I don't even

Seriously, this is a game that you just need to go with the hype on. It doesn't disappoint.

You were banned from the thread. That means no more posting. rawr
My friend has the Emulator for it.

But he also has the one for Chrono Cross, I'll probably replay that first.
I'd be curious to see your take on Cross now. When did you first play it? I played it when it first came out and really liked it, but tried playing this past summer... and didn't even get past disc 1. Blech!

I haven't touched it since I've had a PS1, I don't even remember that much of it except it was ym favorite game from back then.

I'm due for a reply, I've been playing nothing but PvZ for the past month on my computer.
That was awesome. Who would have thought the NES was capable of such things?
You could imagine my shock when it happened in the game. I had to share. It's no wonder why this game never came to the states.

protoss vs. zerg?

Anybody remember Enix's 7th Saga on SNES? That game was pretty hard because some of the other bosses leveled when you did, so you couldn't grind and beat them.

Never beat that game. Probably one of the toughest RPGs I've ever played.

Oh yeah.. I remember playing as the blue knight, and getting my butt kicked repeatedly by some elf lady wizard.

That game was difficult.
I've never even touched Chrono Trigger. What's the best version to play SNES or DS?
Doesn't really matter, the content is basically the same in both versions, the DS has a couple of extra dungeons and one extra boss and ending but the extra dungeons aren't great (but aren't required) and the extra boss and ending aren't really all that important. I'd say go for whichever version you can get easier, although the DS version has the plus of being portable.
I've never even touched Chrono Trigger. What's the best version to play SNES or DS?
The DS version has additional content the original doesn't.

It'm fairly certain it has all of the anime-style videos from the PS1 version of the game, in addition to an additional dungeon.

I would say the best version of the game is the DS version, and a CT SNES cart would cost more than the DS version.

Oh ya CT for the DS also has monster raising, really didn't seem to serve any purpose, was fairly boring, and took forever, so I didn't even bother with it.

While the SNES version is good, the DS version is superior. A more accurate translation, anime cutscenes taken from the PSX release. 2 extra dungeons, Lost Sanctum which is boring & repetitive and Dimensional Vortex which is better and even has a surprise boss fight thrown in. There's a nifty extra ending exclusive to the DS which helps tie into Chrono Cross, from a huge CT fan this was an extremely nice touch. And like others mentioned the Monster Arena which I dabbled in for a bit but it wasn't very fun, it's at least in there. There's also a monster compendium, ending viewer and music box all taken from the PSX version.

So they have me playing the Spoof version of Chrono Trigger.

"Good Morning Crono! You masturbated so much last night you passed out!"

That reminds me I still need to play Chrono Trigger DS. I've had it sitting in my backlog for ages now... Maybe I'll get to it after Valkyria Chronicles II.

Speaking of Valkyria Chronicles II, How do you use the characters you unlock. I had a save file for the first game and unlocked Isara but haven't seen her in my squad list.

I will eventually, I got burned out trying to get some doll at the carnival.

My says it's key to the end of the story, but it's so damn boring.

I'm not sure you can even get the doll until a story event triggers that allows you to obtain it from the Millennium Fair. You really don't have to do very much at the Fair, I'd suggest doing a couple things for fun (like fight Gato once since his song is awesome), and then moving on.
