I feel bad for the guys who had to model/program in stuff for Samus and Link.

They probably spend a few weeks or so getting all of that set up, and then it just gets trashed the next day. Worse, they can't really include it on their resume/portfolio if they ever looked for a job elsewhere.

Just a little side observation there about the industry at large.

 I linked the wrong thing Strell.

EDIT: Here's what I posted. This is Samus in what-was-supposed-to-be her in Marvel Ultimate Alliance for Wii

Link was supposed to be in it, too.
This looked so awesome. :(

After watching the video, I could get into the Super Mario RPG battle system.

I'm a little surprised Nintendo didn't go for it - they let EA and Namco use their characters, so why not Activision?

That said, having Nintendo's franchise characters appearing in every game on the system would get old fast, and I wouldn't want them to be in games that might end up being crap. Still, the nerdy kid in me would love to have Link and Spider-Man team up to beat the crap out of Dr. Doom. :)

I want to play the game, and that would've guaranteed I bought the Wii version.

As it stands now, the controls are supposedly hit-or-miss and the 360 one has exclusive characters, and good ones at that. I figure I'll wait for that and get it whenever I get around to buying a 360.

I think it may be a thing of quality here. I mean look at Soul Caliber II, arguably one of the best fighting games out there. Also NBA Street Vol. 3 was probably one of the best Basketball games on the market at it's time and Nintendo already has a DS version of Mario Basketball. I think Nintendo said no because the game is good but not great by Nintendo's standards.

Another reason could be story interactions. Maybe Nintendo might have not wanted interaction with comic book characters.

Either way I think Nintendo characters should stay Nintendo characters unless it is as good of a game as SC II was.

I think Activision did it without consulting Nintendo first, which pissed them off. Also, the build that video is running on is the PS2 version (look underneath Samus and you can see the Playstation button shapes - triangle, circle, etc), so it's possible they wanted to have those characters across all versions (though I really doubt anyone would be that stupid).

EA might have approached Nintendo about the whole Mario thing first, or Nintendo went to them. This situation doesn't have that same feeling to it.

Toki Tori makes me happy. Not because I want it (which I do), but because it reminds me of Toki: Going Ape Spit. It's on the 2008 TBA Virtual Console list, but who knows when it will actually come out. The VC needs more games where you can protect yourself with a giant helmet and then spit big white globs at crabs and lizards.

I know I've never played it, but that game sounds really familiar. I doubt anyone else would remember, but wasn't that one of the games they used on Nick Arcade? :whistle2:k

Yeah, but what about SSX4? That game was only meh.

SSX4 was awesome.. just nobody played it. Probably just behind SSX3 as best snowboarding game evar.

What are the VC releases this week? i can't find it in the thread.
The game is coming out in Japan in June.
There's no reason why this game won't be coming here at all.

Now, the Final Fantasy games, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, etc, are totally different stories..
Which means I'll continue to yard sale hoping to run in to these other games.

I already have mario rpg and will also buy it for the VC. It's too good of a game to pass up.

I won't be here when the press release comes out, but I really do hope I come home to see another 2 VC/2 WW update.. with it being Super Mario RPG, ???, and Tori Tori and Pokeman Ranch ^_^

...at least I know we'll be getting Toki Tori.

Looks like it is, here's the supposed press release for the 2 WiiWare.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. This week’s new games are:

Protöthea (UbiSoft, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone - Fantasy Violence, 1,000 Wii Points): Protöthea is a top-down scrolling shooter game with free movement that puts players in complete control of a last-generation spaceship. The mission is to destroy the asteroid called Maqno 01 and finish with the plans of The Core. UbiSoft’s Protöthea introduces new concepts to a beloved, classic game style while mixing genres and utilizing the full capabilities of the Wii console, from graphics to controls. Players of all ages and experience levels will enjoy taking command of their ship, blasting through four different worlds in 10 challenging missions. Use your weapons arsenal and the special bonus items to help you accomplish your mission, and don’t forget to slow down time and take an edge over the enemy.

Toki Tori (Two Tribes, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 1,000 Wii Points): Toki Tori is his name, and collecting eggs is his game. In this puzzle/platform game, players use a variety of items such as the Telewarp, InstantRock and Slug Sucker. Clever use and combination of these items are needed to solve all the game’s levels, of which there are more than 70. Levels range from easy to brain-teasingly hard, resulting in dozens of hours of puzzle play time. Toki Tori makes the most of what Wii has to offer. It uses the Wii Remote for a unique control scheme, which offers players a new and more relaxing play style. A second player can help you out by drawing hints while you are playing. The game even uses the Wii Message Board in a unique way.

Guess I'll keep holding my remaining points for World of Goo and Eternity's Child.

I just finished Lost Winds last night after not playing it for a couple of weeks. I really liked it. I think $10 for just over 3 hours of gamplay was pretty good, although I wish there was a little more content to extend the game. From what I have read in the Lost Winds thread, collecting all of the vases (or whatever they are) doesn't do anything.

Protöthea looks like it could be interesting, but I'd like to see some reviews first. Given how many shooters we've already had, this one's going to have to be amazing to stand out.

Toki Tori is a game that I almost definitely will buy...just not today. I'll pick it up when I have extra money, just like I will Lost Winds and most of the SNES VC games I've never played (like Super Metroid).

ANOTHER SHUMP. God damn, why don't they just rename the shop channel to we love Shumps . Seriously though, I would be in for Toki Tori but well I am not getting rid of 290 blocks of space.

EDIT: I just checked the Shop channel. Also Ninja Combat for the Neo Geo CD is on there for 900 pts (I think that was the name of it).

Yeah when Nintendo was going on and on about how awesome the Virtual Console is going to be at E3 before the Wii came out, I never in my wildest dreams thought we would see such a plethora of Shmups... it's such a niche market, I imagined we would of been seeing a ton of RPGs.

I bet there is a method to their madness though, I think they would rather you spend cash on a Shmup that you can complete/get bored of in a week and be ready to plunk down more cash on a new game next week instead of buying an RPG that will entertain you for a whole lot longer.

1000 points for Protöthea, or any shmup for that matter, is too much. With Ubi going the greedy route with the Wii, I have a feeling they're overcharging just because they can.

I'll pick up Toki Tori next week. I only have 500 points left.
Why does IGN say super mario rpg was recently released?
It doesn't?
Release Date:
US: TBA
Japan: June 2008
Europe: TBA

Why does IGN say super mario rpg was recently released?
It was recently announced for Japanese VC release for this month. Nintendo puts out a list of everything coming out for the VC over there, and Mario RPG was included, meaning it is definitely supposed to come out this month.

I'm still not convinced it will, but I'll happily eat my words if it does.
It doesn't?
It sure does. Go to the Wii page and scroll all the way down to the bottom. It's on the recently released list.

Absolutely nothing shows up under "recently released" for me, or the "coming soon. Odd.

Either way, they have at least 2 other places that say otherwise, one being the game's IGN page.

And this one: http://wii.ign.com/articles/877/877906p1.html

Which makes me wonder why no one mentioned that Phantasy Star IV is also coming to the Japanese VC.

Edit: after reloading a couple times, it finally showed up. It looks like every game on that list hasn't actually been released.
Toki Tori is pretty good.

But one save file? :bomb:
C'mon.
Worth the 1000 pts?

I know I said I'd pick it up w/o a second look but after seeing a vid of Strong bad's game, I am wanting stuff that will have at least some replay value (and don't want to keep spending 1000 pts here and there for these ww titles)

I only played a few levels.. had a few things I had to to do (PLUS I HAD TO Wii FIT!!1)
So far, yeah. I'm beyond pissed about the save files.. ESPECIALLY since it's a 290 block game.

The music is cute and yet awesome.
The control is very simple. (plus you can use a classic or gamecube of you wish not to use the pointer)
The daily log he sends to your Wii message board is cute ^_^
The puzzles so far are really simple, but I'm still in the first world. It's basically a tutorial on what to do, how to use items, etc. I can see this getting REALLY hard...which is good.

So far, yeah I can say it's worth the 1000 points. It's def not worth the 290 blocks, though

BTW, I checked the Nintendo Channel and we have NEW demos! I forget them all, but I know:
Worms 2, Pirates of the Carribean _______, Cake Mania 2 and The Mummy (?) are on there.

How dare you forget High School Musical. Who needs Mario when you can have teen idols singing on your DS?
A sega-made sci-fi RPG series. Very good, especially 4.
Sci-fi RPG huh? I've heard of the game(s), but never played them and don't know much about Phantasy Star. Is Phantasy Star 4 the best of the series?

I like Sci-fi, I sorta like RPGs. It might be a sexy combination.

This will get argued pretty heavily, but I think the original Phantasy Star is the best of the series. The pacing is spectacular, the 3-D dungeons are well-executed and the story is simple but driving (later games got too grandiose for my taste). I have gone back every few years and played through the original Phantasy Star and always been satisfied. I've never had the urge to go back to the others. I did try III again a few years ago and couldn't get into it at all after a couple of hours.

Well, Phantasy Star II, III and IV is on the Sega Genesis Collection for the PS2 (if you own a ps2) which is $9.99 at Gamestop if you can find a copy. So it isn't too much to try them if you are interested.

ei guys, you think this is possible? we've heard rumors time and again regarding a black wii system but nothing is imminent. I think there will be an updated wii in black fashion bundled with wii sports2. I can't wait for E3!:bouncy:
