Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Looks like State of Decay 2 was the best selling game in May, and that doesn't include game pass downloads. Phil mentioned at E3 that he thinks game pass is a good marketing tool because when you look at your friends list you see more people playing those games in general, and people will look into the game or buy it to play with them.

B...but Xbox doesn't have exclusives D:

Unless either Nintendo or Xbox gets out of the hardware business we're never seeing an exclusive on the other's platform. Minecraft is the one first-party exception because it was so big already when MS bought it.

I could see them working something out for a small game like Battletoads, but really only if Nintendo eventually brings back a dedicated handheld, like when early MS-owned Rare put out a few games on the GBA.

Absolute best case scenario, a Rare character gets representation in Smash, and third-party games keep up the cross-play. I think Achievements are pretty likely to be a one off for Minecraft, unless another first-party MC game is created in the future.

Speaking of Minecraft, has anyone been playing lately? Does the Bedrock version feel better yet, less like the weird mobile port it released as? I just realized this Switch update means I won't be able to get the Console Edition that I preferred anymore.

I like the Nintendo/Xbox stuff. I honestly feel like the Switch and the XB1 are so different at this point that owning both in a mainstream household is very plausible. I personally have both and it didn't feel like when I owned a PS4 and Xbox One at all.

Pretty much how it's been for a while going back to Wii60, since there wasn't a ton of overlap with the games.

Does Xbox normally do a summer sale like Steam is doing right now. Just curious because I have a little credit & I’m wondering if I should save it. I can’t remember if this was something they did in the past. 🤔

you can join the hyper universe beta from the Xbox Insider Hub, it starts in the morning. It's a 2D moba like Awesomenauts was.

They've done Ultimate Game Sales in early July the last 3 years (started June 30th last year).

https://majornelson.com/tag/ultimate-game-sale/

Since they called the E3 sale the "biggest Xbox sale of the year", curious if they'll do another big sale so close to it, or if the discounts would be any better on items that were just on sale.

Hahahaha we are all kids with sugar now! Wall bouncing MLG pros! GET HYPER!

It’s their commanding lead that makes them not give a shit.
Unfortunately that is what often causes a console leader to get over-confident moving into the next generation and not consider the gamer's interests. It got us a cartridge based N64, a $600 PS3 and an XBox One with required Kinect, $500, required always online and an attempt at game check in.

Well I mean Wii had quite a few COD games and even Madden made it up to 13 on the Wii U.
If you want to get techincal I guess, but all of those CoD were practically different games because of the hardware limitations and motion controls. The majority of mulitplatform games Wii had were like that. Wii U had like a year of overlap where it was getting 360/PS3 ports, but that dried up when XB1/PS4 started, if not slightly before due to poor sales.

True story, saw him at GDC 2 years ago and tried to flag him down for a quick pic but he was with some pink-haired chick (GF maybe? IDK) and just ignored me. Rude.
I don't think that's rude. I wouldn't want to take pictures with strangers either. And then you'd be obliged to talk about games, your work, or whatever else fans want to talk about.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Thanks to fellow CAG underhanded505 we have another world II hunting boss up for grabs!

Celebrities (I'd consider him one, especially at GDC) don't owe you shit.
Well of course they don't, only their careers; that's all. He was the only person I recognized/spotted and I already knew he was a douche online so I wasn't really expecting much. Still, just ignoring a person is rude but it was no skin off my nose.

Yeah, because who would want to thank the people that pay his bills, amirite?

Not normally one to call it out, but this is some entitled-ass bullshit.

The fact that you’d demean the woman he was with as “some pink-haired chick” as if he should be focusing on you more because you’re a fan and a man probably tells us all we need to know about you.

Cut the man some slack. Doghuge is on his last leg. I'm not a huge fan of what he posts online (or what it brings out in the people that follow him) but his photos of his best friend makes my heart hurt.

Opinions on the best single player stories this past year? (Can include PS4 and Switch.)

Wanna play something new while my wife and family go on their beach trip. I unfortunately have to work and be a bachelor this next week.

If we count the complete/Royal Edition (complete, anyway, relative to the original product they should have released) I enjoyed FFXV immensely. It's not perfect, but it gets way more right than it gets wrong.

Honorable mention to Titanfall 2, since it is the best FPS campaign I've played in over a decade.

Far Cry 5 isn't super in depth with its narrative, but the setting and premise sure make it fun to blow things up.

Supposedly an MS leaker says Microsoft is finally getting ready to announce Movies Anywhere integration very soon. Granted this was like a week ago and still nothing. But guess this leaker is supposed to be reliable.

Having played FC5, TF2 and God Of War (PS4) I think God of War is the best of those 3. TF2 is a blast online and the single player is very good. FC5 was a bit of a let down story wise IMO.

None had a GREAT story. But I liked God of War most over all. TF2 is very solid too though. Also had a lot of fun with Doom as well as Wolfenstein 2.

All solid single player games really.

Did you complete FFXV with all the extra content? I've been thinking about finally playing through but I'm hesitant to knowing there is yet more content coming out for it. Did you feel it was a complete game or will this new content fill in some pieces you felt were missing?

I played through it earlier this year (March/April timeframe). It felt like a complete game to me, with the character Episodes more add-ons than anything (more of those are what's coming). The story is what it is. I don't think the Episodes are going to help it that much at this point.

I haven't played the Royal edition with all the new content and updates. The original felt like a full game, though, even where you could tell it was rushed. The updated version does allow character swapping in battle, which seems like a huge addition in terms of gameplay and combat, but story wise I cant comment on how much extra there is. I did log 60 hours in the vanilla release, though.

Got a response from support earlier today. Sent me the mixpot as 4 different codes via "messages from xbox live" on the console.

After playing some more of the beta, I'm 90% sure I'm going to cancel my pricing error crew 2 preorder. It's a fun game but not for the price of a full game, plus the season pass doesn't seem worth the price if it's just vehicles and cosmetics.

If you have a switch, I would say breath of the wild. Horizon zero dawn for ps4 and gears of war for Xbox.
Older story games I personally enjoy playing are the Witcher series and the Batman series.

This year God of War PS4. Persona 5 PS4/PS3 last year. While short and sweet I *loved* the whole story of Hellblade as best XBox story experience over the last year.
