ZUNE and your X360 - ZUNE HD Now in 64GB - Latest Update Now Supports AVI/XviD

Yeah I have a Palm Pre, which does most of what I would probably use a Zune HD for. So it's hard to justify - just need to see it play divx and do cool stuff with xbox.

Dang, where are the reviews? Technoblogs are crickets. Engadget did mention that apparently the first batch of Zune HD's ship unfunctional. You need the Zune software to load the OS on it. I guess that means they were working till the last minute on this one.

Stopped by BB today to take a look at one of these. Unfortunately, they had not updated the software, or synced to a PC, so the only functions that worked were music and videos.
Even the radio didn't work. Kept asking to Sync to a PC first.
Oh well.

I'm sure MS is REAL pleased that their demo units don't really uhh..work.

I wonder who gets fired over that one, people at BB or people at MS?

How do you download the update? I'm checking my Zune under Device Update and it says it's up to date, but it's only at 3.1.

My 8gb Zune only updated from 3.1 to 3.2.
Unfortunately it got stuck at step 3 of 4.
So now it does work, but the wireless marketplace shows nothing but "error".
Oh well.

I can't even sign in. It says ToS have been updated and I have to accept them to be able to sign in. I click the tab it presents, and it sends me to page to create a Zune account. I can't get to the ToS.

I haven't tried it myself but I got an email from Zune this morning with the following instructions:

Upgrading to Zune 4.0
is as easy as 1-2-3.

1. Disconnect your
Zune.

2. In the software,
click Settings,
Software, General.

3. Click Check for updates.

Follow these steps
to manually update
your Zune whenever you'd like.

Give that a shot.

Really want one, don't exactly need one, though. My 30GB is working just fine just like many other people here. I'll jump on board in a couple of months, but I can't justify spending the money at this moment.

I updated the Zune software to 4.0. It still sucks major dick. Loading up the software takes forever and everything is still laggy and slow. Signing in still takes ages as well. It's updating and resyncing all my songs for some reason too.

I guess I got lucky this morning installing the 32-bit version on my laptop. However, loading the 64-bit client tonight, different story. Having to downloaded/install the full client, because their current version doesn't cache the downloaded update properly or something. Good times. Oh well, glad to be updated on both machines now.

What in the fuck is up with the Zune Software? I can't sync any new music. When I try to, it starts a sync that goes through every song in my collection and says "Updating Song X". When it finishes, it stops and says where the sync was happening "Updating Authorities Called In To Examine Suspicious Ham...". After that I can't read anymore. I stop the sync and when I redo it, it happens again. So now I can't add new music to my Zune. How do I fix this and who/what the hell are the Updating Authorities?

?

WTF? Did you update it through regular channels? ie through the Zune website or the actual Zune software and not from a 3rd party?

That's really weird. I'm about to update mine to 4.0, hope that doesn't happen to me.

I would unzoone it (google it) to completely remove Zune from your comp and reinstall the actual 4.0 setup.exe (I'm assuming they have the download on the site that is straight-up 4.0)

I updated both the Zune device and Zune software through the Zune software on my PC.

Has anyone heard of the "Updating Authorities"?

I updated to zune 4.0...AND MY SHIT WORKS

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....

I did download it directly from microsoft (like 400mb total, but that was because it contained the 32 and 64 bit versions) and updated my zune in the settings section under device

everything works flawlessly. no problems here!

Sounds like its a personal PC problem/user error rather than the Zune software. I installed the 64bit version earlier today and it runs flawlessly. Opens in about three seconds and loads up playlists, the DJ stuff, etc... immediately. Nothing is laggy or slow at all. Nothing on my Zune had to re-sync either.

So no one else had to re sync all their music after the software and/or hardware update?

It re-synced all my music, but I just got this new laptop so it took like...a breeze to synce about 4k songs

Did you guys have to reboot after the update? Just wondering because I did the update and it won't recognize my Zune. I'd reboot but I'm in the middle of something so I'll try that in a few.

Yea I had to reboot

The only thing I don't like about the zune software is how they tag my music...or lack of tagging

itunes tags my music the way I like it - artist is the artist. song contains the song name ft ______

with the zune....it tags all my music as artist plus all the other artists (or if you try to find the song names yourself through their database, you sometimes won't even get all the artists names!) and the song is just the song

too many of my songs that it automatically fixed are now ruined tag wise because of the zune software. when I learned how to stop the auto taggin', I was excited

if you had "items i choose" checked for music, you had to resync, it reloade the drivers for the devices, so it essentially forgot what device it was.
Those of you that get the Zune HD today, try out .avi and .divx on it, let us know if it works.

Thanks!
no go, i tried to add an xvid avi, and nuthin.

Figures. Oh well, I'm going to wait for the inevitable 64GB model. Apple has the 64GB iPod touch, so Microsoft wont wait too long to release theirs. Three months I would say we will see it.

I would love to pick up one of the new Zune HD's but I can't get over going from my 120GB down to a 32GB. Hell even if they come out with a 64GB model I would be losing half my space.

Since I already have about 90 taken up on my current model, I would have to do some serious reductions on my Zune.

Wow...the new software is wicked sexy.

Anyone know what the song is in the "First Launch" video that plays after updating the software?

Same thing happened to me. When I updated to the 4.0 software it let me accept the T&C and sign in.

I still can't get it to finish the damn sync. I keep getting that Updating Authorities Called In..message. I have no idea why that pops up or what it even means. It's essentially updating all my songs. How do I get around so I can add new music? I can't add new music until it finishes updating every single song in my collection.

The way I updated was that I did the software first to 4.0, then I did the device. I didn't restart until after the device. Restarting didn't fix the problem.

I'm liking the Smart DJ Feature, makes a quick easy playlist out of an album or artist that is literally effortless.

I dont know how the nit picks work, but the quick links to artist info, rating and playlist feature is a nice touch.

The Mixviews still take forever to load if they ever finish loading but overall i'm happy with what they've done with the software.

and they finally fixed that picks feature in the marketplace, They used to pick some of the most awful music and songs, mostly mainstream billboard garbage, now it's truly reccomending me artists that I would actually listen to.

That's good news. I've loathed their picks, and it always seemed like they'd suggest bands that I had already "brokenhearted". Hope the new system digs a little deeper than the old one.

Ok this makes no sense. I've had my Zune plugged in to my PC all night and I just checked it. It synced by itself and finally added the new CD I bought today. The player says it's up to date as well. Before it was saying "Last sync 9/14". Really weird. This makes no sense at all.

Yeah, the new software is great. It looks good and is considerably faster. I updated my Zune 30, but didn't notice any changes at all. Anything noteworthy?

Yeah, I saw that...pretty cool.

---------------

So before the update, the middle column of the software used to show me all my albums, now it only shows stuff I've bought from the Zune Marketplace...all my songs are there, I can look them up by artist on the left column, but the album pics don't show up on the middle column...anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Near the top left-hand corner, below "quickplay" and "music", does it say "show protected content"? If so, click on that and select "show all content".

Hmmm...seems I'm missing the option.

Well, install was exactly smooth. Had to re-do the install because it failed the first time randomly, then had to reboot the comp because when I plugged my Zune80 in it wanted to update the device driver but couldn't.

But other than that, I got 4.0 with no real problems. Looks nice, I've noticed its way quicker and doesn't lag. Overall, happy with it.

I'm liking the update. The pc software isn't cumbersome and slow to move for me now and my biggest pet peeve has been addressed ... it now minimizes to the taskbar! :whee:

Are you in "quickplay"? If so, you've got be in "collection" for the options to pop up.

Just noticed the taskbar player. Wicked nice!

No I was under collection, nothing shows up. I restarted the Zune software again this morning...nothing. I'll do another reboot tonight and if it doesn't work, I may need to re-install this sucker.

So just to be sure I have read correctly - you CAN disable any sort of auto-tagging fuctions of the Zune software, right? I recently went OCD on my entire collection so that everything was tagged precisely to my liking, and I would hate for that to be undone in a few moments by some overzealous software!

I had the same issue last night where only my protected stuff was showing up. I went into the settings menu to the library page where it asked what folders to monitor. Clicked OK on that page to re-establish the monitored folders and when I went back to collections it started adding in the other albums.

I'll try that when I get home, thanks for the tip.

Has anyone dinked around with the HD Radio? I'm curious as to how that sounds, as I lack any kind of HD Radio at the moment...

Anyone else having this problem?

My bro downloaded the Zune software yesterday and when it added the songs he had in his iTunes folder, it messed up the artists' name, lyrics, etc in both programs. Spent the entire morning fixing all the songs.

Rock, did he have them all correctly tagged via ID3?

Zune gets weird sometimes when it comes to song info. Have him change the settings so Zune doesn't get any missing information for songs if he has them tagged the way he likes.\

I just use http://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html whenever I download something.
