I don't remember exactly, it was a long time ago (on 360). I think there was two of some enemy that was a bitch to fight and normally there was only one and I just couldn't get past it. Not a boss or anything. Maybe something that changed forms? I dunno. I never tried again, but I picked it up on ps3 to start fresh someday.
Grace and Glory?

Its a pretty solid list. Personally more than a little annoyed that once again IGN only put the list out in long ass video format instead of having an article to go with it or something, but not too surprised.

Shovel Knight

Hearthstone

DA: I

Shadow of Mordor

WiiU Smash Bros

Transistor

Stick of Truth

Sunset Overdrive

Bayonetta 2

Kinda surprised sunset overdrive made it over far cry? But I haven't played either just going off of word of mouth there.
Jesus what an awful year for video games.

And seriously. A fucking 27 minute video to announce GOTY nominees? fuck you IGN!

Yes thank you!

On a separate note, just finished my phone interview. I was on the phone with her for a little over half an hour.

She told me the pay, training, and the next steps. Apparently, from her I then have to do role-play with the supervisor, then come in for a face to face after that with two supervisors. Then once those are all clear its background check and take a sample of my hair for drug test.

Seems like an awful lot to do before their start date of 1.6.14.
Is there a casting couch involved in this? Because I think I've seen videos of that before.

Yup, good ol waukesha, wi. I haven't seen the special on it though. Also there's a creepy slender man mural under a bridge in Milwaukee where I go to drop off train crews at work. I get the chills everytime I go down there at night. Bums sleep down there too.
I didn't realize he wasn't doing well. Maybe we should all pitch in to a "Buy Bums a house" fund. It's christmas time (in hollis queens) and he's one of us!

When I said it mirrors I was talking about local videos, not Netflix/Hulu/etc.. I was listing issues with it; first I talked about the need to have a second device to cast from, then I talked about lag when casting downloaded videos. With the wording and sequence I can see how you'd have gotten confused about what I meant there, though the later posts I made were more explicit about what I meant.

AFAIK when you play a video in Chrome (not stream, but play) it still mirrors because there's no way to cast it except with the Mirror Tab option.
Downloaded videos as in mkv and stuff? Use plex.

Casting from a tab is going to be laggy as it IS casting from your pc to the chromecast, but you are muddying up the conversation about the chromecast in talking about that use case.

Most people are interested in it for netflix, hulu, etc and that works completely different than casting a video in a tab locally.

Plex has actual app in chromecast and works great of local streaming. Casting a downloaded video via a tab is doing it wrong.

"sticks"? You have more than one and both are not working right? If so that's crazy. We haven't had any issues with ours. Bad luck, I guess.
I bought a 2nd one for my mom for Christmas. But I'm not going to give her something that I can't even get working consistently myself.

Additionally my brother bought one and is having severe freezing issues as well. fuck those Fire Sticks.

edit: oh, shit. wait. Therm's info seems to be conflicting with this. All I want to know is if it's draining my phone's battery.
Casting works fine from a limited number of sites. Netflix and Youtube work well. If you have locally downloaded files, on your hard drive or NAS or whatever, that can be more problematic and is what I was talking about issues with. Plex is a nice media server application that you can use to cast to the Chromecast, but Plex requires that you have a server running. If your NAS has enough CPU power it can do it, or you have to have a PC running Plex (which means the PC has to always be on.) Alternatively you can use a phone app like Avia to access your NAS and then cast the video direcly from the phone; the phone screen will just show your pause/play buttons and all the streaming is direct from the NAS to the Chromecast at that point. Last time I used Avia it crashed a lot, but since it's not involved in the streaming itself the battery usage is pretty low.

Even programs/sites that don't have Chromecast support can be cast to the Chromecast. If you go into Chrome you'll have a "Mirror Tab" button. You can use this to cast any web content to the Chromecast, but it's laggy because the content is playing both on the PC and on the Chromecast at the same time.

It obviously must have a Mormon detector.

I remember as a kid, after all the TGIF shows were finished for the night, 20/20 would come on and I'd be like "Who watches this shit?", Twenty-plus years later, I still say that sometimes.
The only episode worth remembering is the one when Dr. D David Schultz slapped the shit out of John Stossel.

Pulled from LifeHacker:

We already knew that the Google was bundling in $20 in Google Play credit with the Chromecast for the holidays, but Best Buy is currently adding in an additional $20 in credit on top of that. This means that you're literally paying $30 to get $40 on Google Play, and a Chromecast thrown in for good measure.

Best Buy's $20 credit will be emailed to you after purchase. To claim the other $20, register your device with Google by December 21, and claim the special offer. [Google Chromecast + $40 in Google Play Credit, $30]
Damn I thought you meant Best Buy was giving $20 worth of BB credit. I would have been all over it to replace my Amazon Fire Shits.

But Google Play credit is fucking useless. What do you guys spend it on?

Yes, I'm aware of Plex. I used it for a couple of years before eventually getting a jailbroken ATV2, which is what I use for most things nowadays.

Plex is great, but as I mentioned before does have the downside of requiring a server to run it constantly. Not a big deal, but it's an annoyance and an extra requirement that needs to be taken into account.

I'm wondering now if they ever fixed the subtitle problem in Plex. I recall it having an issue where if you added a video and no subtitle was available for that video, Refresh Metadata would never check again. It was pretty annoying when adding a TV show that had just finished airing, for example, or a new movie.

Weird you had so much freezing, mine seems to be working fine as well. Maybe there was a bad batch (it happens). Did your stick do the update on arrival? Mine forced the update right away but it's been working well, no freezing.

I'd wait for a sale and then blow it on some Squeenix RPGs. https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=SQUARE%20ENIX%20Co.%2CLtd.&hl=en

I agree it's pretty useless. I had gotten a $25 GC free when I bought my first gen Nexus 7. I think I just spent the last of it not that long ago. I bought some games when they were 99 cents and a few apps over time but most of them were free programs that I wanted the ads removed from since I use them a lot. I guess you could buy movies and tv shows but it would probably be hard for me to spend it all. I agree $20 to BB would be better :)

I think I still have credit from my nexus 7 i bought back in 2012 I think.

So I should probably get Hotline Miami, huh (didn't have Plus when it was free)? I'd likely play it on Vita.

This Google Play movies stuff would be 100x better if you could play them on your PS4, etc, via a GooglePlay app or whatever. I wonder if they'll ever make that happen?

Being that Google Play is a service more than anything it would make sense for it to be in as many places as possible. It took Amazon forever to release a damn Instant Video app for (true) Android. These companies have been slow to catch on but it seems like they are getting it now. We are getting apps faster now on more and more platforms, hopefully a google one will branch out too.

Games, apps, movies, same shit you can buy with apple credit.
Yeah that's all worthless garbage. I'd take $5 in BB credit over $40 in Google Play/iTunes credit.

And yeah, I have like $13 in Google Play credit that has been sitting on my account for well over a year.

Yeah, that looks like it might be right. Do they come back later?
Yeah, once they're introduced they show up through the rest of the game. Not frequently mind you but enough. Then once you get almost to the end of the game, they introduce a "super" version of them know as Gracious and Glorious. Who are faster, even harder than Grace and Glory, and are immune to witch time. Meaning there is no slow down for dodging their attacks. They're a real blast lol.

I wonder if dumb tyler opted out of the Fire Stick software update? Maybe that's the source of the issues he's having.
I already fucking posted everything about this. Obviously I updated it. It doesn't work the way it should. Period. I mean it fucking froze for almost a full minute on that retarded intro cartoon! It's going back. I would duplicate the errors and record them for you since you guys don't seem to believe that I know how to operate a fucking streaming stick, but that thing infuriates me too much already. It's literally a USB stick that can run apps and it doesn't work. And I've seen two separate ones, in different houses, on different networks, repeatedly disconnect, crash, freeze, or simply not load Netflix. I don't even know how Amazon could have possibly fucked it up.

Those are apps, not sites, and a lot of those don't have their own content to stream.

From the perspective of using the phone as a remote it's great to have choices, but obviously you'd need to have every one of those apps installed for casting the app-specific content. It's also missing a lot of the TV networks, so you can't for example cast the stuff CBS, NBC, USA, Showtime, etc. has on their website if you find yourself behind on any of those shows, even though at least some of those networks have Android/iOS apps. Maybe that support will come in the future.

The winners in the list you linked appear to be Netflix, Hulu Plus (though the content on mobile Hulu Plus is restricted compared to PC), HBO, Starz, and ABC. Maybe Crackle or Crunchyroll.

Mailed it, that's the stuff. I'll get em next time though!

On that list I only played South Park Stick of Truth. Didn't grab me. I have Shadows of Mordor but haven't played it yet.
A lot of those games on that list are good games. But none of them scream great or GOTY. Maybe the Nintendo games, I mean it was an off-year for games anyway, might as well let Nintendo shine.

Question: my wife and I have adopted a family for the christmas, single parent with 3 kids. One of the kids is an 8 year old boy that asks for action figures, but does not specify which ones. What would you guys suggest?
My kid was into the Justice League and Marvel characters at that age. Essentially anything super hero related.

Talk about BORING! Tyler probably hates that game more than Dead Nation and BOI combined. Flower is soooo fuck ing boring. I played it because I think we got it for free back in the beginning of Plus. And I wasnt buying a shit ton of games at the time so I actually played it for much longer than I should have.
Yeah I would kill 100,000 zombies in Dead Nation before I ever wanted to go back to Flower.

I did get a stuttery intro movie, but that was it. It worked fine since that. I haven't used the Netflix app much yet, so maybe that's the source of problems. I don't know. If the Netflix app is buggy let's hope they get an update out soon.
