CAG Arcade Stick Thread

MM, I'm sure you have heard about the PS3->360 adapter. Do you think I'd be better off waiting for that instead of putting a 360 PCB in my HRAP3?

If I wanted to make a stick for either 360 or PS3 (doesn't really matter which system) and wanted to use Happ Concave Pushbuttons and a IL Competition Joystick, what would be the best existing stick to mod with the least work on my end? If there is nothing, who the hell do I ask to work on such a beast?

Alright.... It's done. I'm getting the TE. No tax + free shipping was all the incentive I needed. Thank you, MarkMan. :D:D:D:D:D

Were there any promo codes I could have used on it?
If you press back on your browser at the checkout, you can get 10% off at Capcom Store. I'm using Firefox.
EDIT: OH SHIT! I'm so sorry! I just checked the other thread. Please forgive me.

EDIT 2: THANK YOU, VERY MUCH!!! tmei, you saved me $15. I'm SOOOOOOO SORRY!!!:oops::oops::oops::oops::oops:

Is it true the PS3 Mad Catz SF 4 sticks will not work with PS2 games (I have the 60GB PS3)? If it is true has Sony given any type of timeframe as to when that will be fixed?

This is my stick. Elecom (2500円) stick. I bought the Sanwa stick, and 6 buttons (3000円 total). I soldiered it and it works like the Japanese arcade stick! 5500円 for an arcade copy of Japanese arcades...it's my baby! Works with PC/PS3!

Maybe we can see that changed in a future firmware update.

WTF?!Ive got street fighter anniversary collection for the PS2.:cry:I wanted to get my 3rd strike on.

Yea it won't. It is a Sony thing.

Remember, the VSHG, FS3, and HRAP3. Neither of them worked with PS2 BC on PS3 when those sticks first came out (I think I'm the only dumbass; or is that hardcore stick guy?; that bought each of those sticks day 1)... It was only later after a firmware update where they ended up working.

So keep your fingers crossed.

I personally don't care. PS2 fighting games on PS3 suck. I can't stand the input lag.

I wrote Sony, asking for them to update the PS3 for BC with the Madcatz TE Stick to work with PS2 games.

http://playstation.custhelp.com/cgi-...nduser/ask.php

If anyone has any interest in playing PS2 games with your TE stick without modding, I'd implore you to do the same. Or hell, even PS1 games. I wouldn't mind booting up Darkstalkers 3 and playing with my TE Stick.

Input lag or no input lag, I still like the option to be there. All my friends got rid of their PS2s for BC PS3s, and I have no PS2 sticks... it'd just be nice to bring the beautiful TE over to someone's place and throwdown on some older titles.
After becoming a Beatmania whore, input lag annoys the piss out of me. Literally, I piss.
Ah yes.

For fighting games + music games.

That shit is no good X_X

Nice mod PoH. I got the Mayflash which is pretty much the same thing, except manufactured in China and with ps2 support. It was good while it lasted with the Sanwa parts, but after a couple weeks, the pcb gave out (mainly capacitors were falling off due to horrible soldering). At least I have the cord still intact which I will most likely use with Toodle's upcoming multi-console version of his pcb.

I posted on the official Playstation forums and would love to do what you did, but your link doesn't work.

Is the regular edition PS3 Fight Stick going to be compatible with PS2 games out of the box? I currently have a 360 TE stick preordered through Capcom's store and a SE Stick preordered through Amazon.
Alpha Anthology is PS2 only. Anniversary Collection plays just fine on the 360.
When playing 3S on 360 the game lags when the screen scrolls vertically. :(

I got my HRAP3 last week and my order from LizardLick came in yesterday...here's my modified HRAP3 with Seimitsu translucent blue buttons and blue bubbletop. I kept the stick the stock Sanwa one.

I think it looks nice, and buttons are more responsive. They do seem less 'mushy' than the stock Hori ones. Also, I just couldn't get into the stock red and yellow buttons.

The upgrade was quite painless, probably took 15 minutes and everything snapped together nicely...now what should I do for my next project?

Very nice/clean choice of colors. HRAP3 mods are easy if you have the right tools. Even easier for HRAP2/3 SAs.

As for next project? Try a stick mod + art :)

I got a quick noob question about the TE stick and replacing the ball top with a bat.

This is the piece I would need? Sanwa LB-30-N Joystick Bat Top

Also is it a simple matter of screwing off the ball top and replacing it?

Does that make it the same as a Sanwa JLW-UM-8 Bat Handle Joystick? Or is the actual stick in the TE different? (sorry I dunno these things! heh)
MarkMan, can you confirm the length of the warranty for the TE stick? Or are you not at liberty to say?
I believe I read something about it being two years. Seems unusually long for a controller but I'll take it nonetheless.;););)

Basically, don't buy a Samsung LCD.
Samsung has a Game mode on many of their TVs and has had such a thing for awhile. Sony also has a Game mode for the same reason. Basically it tells the TV to not do some of the image processing it does. I am by no means an expert on the situation but for the majority of people, just about any newer TV will be fine.

If you want to get really into this stuff, check out AVSforum. They are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable.

P.S. Samsung's game mode does not allow additional picture adjustment whereas Sony's does. Again, if you are not going to get super in depth of your TV and complain about small-ish discrepancies, this stuff shouldn't matter to you.

Curses, I waited to long to grab a cthulu. I'm not really in a rush though.

I'm thinking that the TE will allow me to add a cthulu with only a screwdriver but I am not sure how to connect the wires to the buttons at the moment.

Maybe someone will make me a nice youtube video by the time I get one.
Nylon is right about the game mode. In fact, Samsung LCDs are some of the best on the market, if not the very best.
No way. I had a Samsung LCD (it was a 7 series) for all of two days before I took it back. I tried playing Beatmania on the thing, and the lag was awful. It was not playable. Even with game mode, it still had severe input lag, and you get the added bonus of not being able to tweak any settings, so everything has mad edge enhancement and looks kinda washed out. The weirdest issue that I only noticed with 2D games with lots of fast motion, though, was that the TV couldn't fucking keep up. It would occasionally hitch up, and then blur everything moving onscreen for a few seconds, and then go back to normal. I couldn't believe that shit.

So I took it back, got a Panny plasma, and it's perfect. I have had absolutely no input lag issues with it (using Beatmania as a reference, again), and it looks a hell of a lot better, which is especially noticeable when upscaling SD stuff.

So back on topic: I kept considering whether I was gonna cancel that TE stick.

I was thinkin' "y'know, it's just gonna make things more complicated", but I'm sorta committed now, too, and it's what I want. So I'm keeping it.

....this also sounds like the musings of a pregnant 14-year-old.

Bad set or user error? Again, for people reading this thread and concerned about input lag, go to AVSforum. Don't listen to shmucks on CAG. Members of the AVSforum do cool stuff like this:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=13897467&postcount=9179

That's for the 6 series which is the same as the 7 series, just fewer bells and whistles.

If you want to know more about input lag on TV sets, go to AVSforum. Do not just listen to people on this board.
Love the mod! I hate the stock red and yellow too.

What choices do you have when it comes to american style sticks?
Thanks - I think you can use any of the bat-tops (american style) on the stock Sanwa stick using the screw adapter and the Sanwa stick top.

http://www.lizardlickamusements.com/pages/joysticks.shtml

Look for this: Sanwa LB-30-N Joystick Bat Top

And I think you need one of these: Sanwa Joystick Adapter

Then open it up, hold the joy stick part in place with a flat screw driver and unscrew the ball...then reverse and screw on the new top.

Should be just as easy as my bubble top replacement.

Strange... I don't have any noticeable input lag with my Samsung, but I also don't play Beatmania. No problems with other rhythm based games (Rock Band, Guitar Hero, DDR etc.) No sudden screen blur or whatever either.

My Samsung LCD has been OK too, no noticeable lag with Rock Band or Guitar Hero

yeay but when u play those games are u going for all perfects??

I remember when we useta play competitive DDR at the arcades, and when one of the mixes came out they switched the game to 60FPS.

it threw off so many perfect attackers.

that's jus DDR tho... Rock Band and Guitar Man are for scrubs anyways lol

I meant like complete american style, for MVC2. I was wondering if they sold non customs sticks with P360's and such.
