CAGbag: Get your questions answered on CAGcast

CheapyD and Wombat, just wondering how much you guys have seen about Bionic Commando, looks sweet to me, wondering if you guys were looking forward to it at all, I sure am.

Hey Cheapy,

I was browsing around PlayAsia.com when I noticed that each game page has a 2D barcode on it, similar to the one below. After some research, I find that these codes are called QR Codes, and are quite common in Japan. Users of certain cameraphones can scan these codes and their phone will link them to a webpage.

My question is, how often do you come across QR Codes, and have you ever tried to use one? If you do, do they link to multi-lingual resources?

Hey Cheapy,

I'm curious if you have any plans to make a mobile CAG website and/ or some kind of CAG app or price tracker app for the iPhone. I know you have an iPhone that you seem to love, and it's something I think iPhone and iPod Touch users would be very interested in...

Thanks,
bruce1448

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,

Been listneing for a month or so, love the show. I think I remember you guys mentioning you each have a GameFly account and I know you've been talking about game trade-ins such as with Toys-R-Us and Amazon. What do you think of the new service GameFly is offering with the ability to mail in games for GameFly credits which can used used to purcahse games from them? The only problem I can think of is that the games you could buy from them would be used, but obviously that means they're cheaper in price.

Thanks, Berkbelts.

Wombat,

You mentioned how cool the "Behind the bullet" PSN download was because it let you get a taste of what went into making it and the game. I personally am really interested in all the ins and outs of what goes into creating titles too. I look checking out story boards, concept art, then comparing to them to the final product, and so on. I even got to see it first hand after visiting a local developer working on an upcoming release recently.

I just wonder, to you, (and Cheapy D too, If he is interested in the development side of video games) does that take away the "magic" when you look behind the curtain, or does it just make you appreciate it more?

What's the ratio of people who download the CAGcast from cheapassgamer.com to people who download from itunes/zune/whatever to some other way to get the cagcast if there is one?

Cheapy, I 2nd that.. Great question..Bruce

To the both of you,

Can you recall the titles that pop into mind when asked, "What games did you log the most time on?" If so, what was it [do you think] that gave them their insane replay value?

Thanks, Shrapnellistic (Shrap-null-lis-tik)

Cheapy, what do you see in CAG's future when everything moves to digital distribution and they fuck us all in the ass with no used game sales and no sales no clearances and no coupons?

Hey Cheapy 'n Wombat,

Capcom recently announced that they will be giving Street Fighter IV free "Championship Mode" DLC on April 24th. This can hardly be considered DLC as it is more of a patch and wouldn't be logical to sell in the first place. I'm curious about your opinions of Capcom labeling this as "DLC" and not a patch.

Thanks,

Hey guys just started listening a few months ago and just joined the site a couple weeks ago. I'm really impressed and have already found some great deals so far, your site works great!

For my question, I'm forming a video game club for my university and would appreciate some ideas towards making something successful. I don't know the first thing about community building so some advice would be awesome! There's 26,000 kids at my university so hopefully I'll be able to find a couple dozen kids interested in the club. In a university of this size I'm kind of angry there's a quidditch club but not a video game club. And yes the quidditch club is a bunch of college kids running around in wizard costumes with brooms between their legs throwing balls through hoops. Any advice would be appreciated! Keep up the great work guys you do a fanstastic show!

Cheapy, why does my signature now have a link saying "This was too big" that links to my gif? It was fine, and it's not even that big! I've seen much bigger, so why does mine have to be linked to?

Hey Cheapy,
I was listening to one of the older podcasts where you mentioned having to take a huge shit before going on Attack of the Show. Just want to say thanks, because now whenever someone in the family has to go, they say, "I could have chiseled an adobe."

I missed out back in the day to order a CAG shirt and other swag. Do you have any plans in the near future to Get them back on the site for order? Thanks you guys do a great show

Hey Cheapy and wombat
I saw this article on the possible introduction of xbox live V.I.P members as an upgrade to gold members. You will be able to get online storage for content, new matchmaking options, being able to send silver members invites and better connectivity. You can read more about it here

http://www.hiphopgamershow.com/?p=7360

Anyway was wondering what you thought of this and would you be interested in it?

Regarding the recently implemented game collection system, will the ability to add games for older platforms, e.g. nes, snes, genesis and such, be added to the collection system in the future? Currently, older platforms are not available. If this is intended, then the game collection system will never be the best game collection system everz.

What do you guys think of the state of Sega...it seems that the Sonic games are more miss than hit. Should they just go back and release an updated HD 2D Sonic, much like Capcom did with Street Fighter? What is the status of their big signature games, like Virtua Fighter, Daytona, Sega Rally? I think it has been reported that Virtua-On is coming to XBLA. Seems that even when they release a good game, like the latest House of the Dead, the sales aren't there. What should they do in your opinion to turn this around?

Cheapy, have you ever considered merging the system-specific discussion forums into one big gaming discussion forum?

It seems like whenever I check the forums(day or night), the Deals forum usually has about 3 times as many people viewing it compared to all of the gaming discussion forums combined. To add to that, some threads that show up on the first page for some of the forums have not had a new post in a week, sometimes longer. As of writing this, the Deals forum has 295 people viewing it, yet none of the gaming discussion forums have more than 30 viewers. I know the Deals forum is the big draw of CAG, but it shouldn't be the only one.

How would merging the forums help this? Simple, look at NeoGAF's community. It thrived under similar circumstances to what I mentioned(one forum for everything gaming) because everybody who wants to talk are in one big place. I believe that with that change and some time, CAG's vocal community would grow in the same way too.

Thank you for all of the improvements being done to CAG, they really help!

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,

Have you ever considered giving Nelson Rodriguez a spot in the podcast? I mean, I love the show and all, but sometimes it can feel a little empty and boring in some parts and I think a third person like Nelson can give us a different view on the video game industry, especially since he was an employee at Microsoft.

Thanks, and your show keeps getting better!

Hey guys another question for you.
I have been waiting a while now and i was wondering When are you going to have a discussion on what you would like in the next generation of consoles. I remember you saying about it in an earlier podcast but to this day it has never been brought up. Thanks.

After some recent talk about Caddyshack I found it on tv and recorded it. Just finished watching it and it was feaking awesome. Thanks for the recommendation! Any others worth watching?

Hey Cheapy D. I've been listening to your podcast (and have subsequently subscribed to it via iTunes) for about 6 shows now and I gotta say, you and Wombat always deliver. I seriously look forward to it every week. You guys manage to do what most other podcasts, video game related or not, can't do which is entertain. Damn entertaining. I'll keep listening if you guys keep talking.

Okay question time if I may. I'm going to Tokyo at the beggining of June for about 10 days with my wife on our honeymoon. We plan on staying at a hotel adjacent to Disney Tokyo. From what I understand, it's not even in Tokyo but on the outskirts. My concern is, I do not speak a lick of Japanese nor read any and my wife falls under that category as well. Will it be hard/impossible to easily traverse the trains or subway to get to our hotel or is there some other method of transportation you would recomend as an alternative. I guess what I'm asking is, should I take a cab or is a gaijin able to ride the rails pretty easily?

My next question is, I want to get a tattoo in JP. My wife has over a dozen and I have none so I thought I would take the opportunity to do so in a memorable fashion. I read online that tattoos are still pretty fringe and frowned upon as they are associated with Yakuza. Can a westerner get a tattoo is Japan? Any suggestions? Know any good artists there locally?

Thanks in advance for all your help and thanks tremendously for putting out a great FREE product like the cagcast week after week.

Mike A.

hay cheapy and wombat, this is a questiin for cheapy:

as a fellow american born gaijin and one of the few minorities brave enough to date outside of their own race, have you any general tips on dating japanese women!? i am currently dating one over here in the states who has come here as an exchange student, and im real confused.i have done some research and i found that japanese dating rituals are prettymuch the exact opposite of american ones.

Is there any advice you would like to give that you wish you knew going into your relationship with Mrs. Cheapy?

What i already know:

i DO have approval of the parents as far as i can see (being black and knowing how to speak japanese has its perks), but the girl herself is extremely shy. in private, like on dates, it's kool like any other relationship i've been in, but in public, especially around friends it's a different story.

i know of the japanese social taboo of PDA(Public Display(s) of Affection). however im wondering is there something else i'm missing?

i have dated a few times before, but this is real different than anything i have experienced before. Is there any surefire way to note when you are making progress? japanese dating seems to be very unspoken, unlike american.

don't let my signature fool you, i know how to keep my japanophile side in check. i just REALLY need your help. i feel as though i'm starting over here!

Hey Cheapy I'm really loving the new prince slider you added with email alerts. This could not be a more welcome feature as I basically have all of those prices in my head and this helps to keep track of them a little more. Here's my question, since CAG carries so much weight I wonder if there's anyway to present our slider information to publishers and retailers. I don't know if it's feasible, but maybe if a publisher noticed a lot of people would pay say 30 for their game as opposed to 50 they'd drop the price. I see retailers experimenting with price points and if it leads to cheaper games I'm in support of anything. If a publisher would just be willing to release their new title at 30 or 40 dollars instead of 50 or 60 they'd see massive sales and might make a larger profit. It seems like a waste of publicity to try and hope their strongest sales are once the price drops and all their advertisement dollars have been spent and forgotten by the consumer. You'd think it would be more effective to combine the two, but this is all speculation and I'm more than willing to admit there's a lot of flaws in my argument. Anyways keep up the great work guys, you're awesome!

I'm a fairly recent new listener and I've just wanted to thank you for making my workday less shitty. Two quick questions for you:

Cheapy+Wombat: You've both mentioned in the past that you rarely buy the limited collector's editions of games, but what about the Ghostbusters ($129) and Batman ($99) CE? Sure, they are both hella expensive, but some of the stuff included gave me an instant geek-boner the first time I saw them. Just wanted to see if you've considered purchasing either one.

Batman and Ghostbusters Collector's Editions

Cheapy: You've recently gave high praise to Dark Sector and within the week, I saw more and more people in the forums have that title in their gamertag signature. How does it make you feel to see that several people on CAG are so easily swayed by your magic voice that they automatically purchased it during the NewEgg sale (myself included)?

Cheapy and Wombat, the blogs have been on the site for close to a year now. What's your opinion of them? Do you read them at all? What direction would you like to see them take?

Hey Cheapsta and Wombatsta, with the recent accouncement for Marvel VS Capcom 2 for XBLA/PSN, will you guys be buying it? Day 1? Which system? I will probably buy both versions so i can play online for both systems. :)

Cheapy
Have you ever thought about getting Super Programmer John to make you an iphone app?
Maybe a video game price tracker or a notifaction system of a certain deal!?!

Hey guys,

Have you ever noticed that more often than not, game reviewers will deduct more points for a broken feature in a game than they would if the feature was never there at all? Do you think that games like Bioshock with no multiplayer would have earned lower scores if it had a lack-luster multiplayer mode rather than none at all? What would you guys prefer?

Thanks.

yeah where needs to be a CAG iphone app

is there a way to view the games you've entered for email alerts on the price tracker?

a pricetracker iphone app and optimized forum like secondapps/neogaf would be nice. edge is sloooow while standing around inside target.

Greetings, gentlemen

After listening to CAGplay ForeCast #3, I was quite shocked to hear Shipwreck talk about having kids with Wombat! I've been listening to the CAGCast since around the 70th episode and I don't think I recall Shipwreck ever having talked about that kind of stuff. I always found it amusing and interesting whenever you (CheapyD and Wombat) talk about your sex lives (like how Mrs. Cheapy asks for sex and how Wombat pulled his groin that one time).

But Shipwreck has never been a part of those conversations! What gives? I'm *very* certain that Mrs. Shipwreck is indeed "hot" and wish that Shipwreck would be a little more open with the subject of sex.

We're all men, right? (No offense to any women listeners)

Thanks guys

Hey Cheapy! I was just wondering, since you're living in Japan, I just wanted to ask you about their TV shows. I've seen videos of Japanese game shows and man they're WAY better than what we have here. If you do watch Japanese shows, what do you think of them? and what is your most favorite one?

Hey cheapy i plan to move to japan when i get my proper education to be an english teacher do you recommend any places to live for the three categories anime, technology, video games please be speicific for each city or cities and the hotness of the girls there also

I definitely want an CAG iPhone app, I know Cheapy doesn't need the extra money like he's mentioned before (on having premium CAG user accounts etc). But throw an app on the store for $1/£1 and you'd make a killing and wouldn't be ripping on people.

Also I was wondering have you or Wombat ever meet John in person? Been to any events, shows with him?

So guys since you were talking about wedding rings last time, I have a quick question:
How much did your entire wedding cost you? Did you pay for it? Or did your parents or her parents cover it?

Keep up the good work

CheapyD:

You mentioned that you were interested in SingStar Queen but the prospect of attempting to match Freddie Mercury's vocal range daunting. What if you didn't have to reach those eunuch-like high levels? In SingStar you can score even if you're an octave lower than the singer. Would that change your mind and make SSQ a more palatable purchase?

Wombat:

Two super heroes, a 1980's child star, and a video game character come together for a Rock Band 3 cameo appearance. Who is in the band, and what is the band's name?

Don't you find it odd that pornography is strictly forbidden on CAG, but yet the Admin of the site watches it on a daily basis. Not to say I want Pornography on CAG though.

Cheapy, what are your thoughts on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen?

It seems like it is going to be a huge step up from the first movie thanks to improved animation and a better cast of bots this time around like Soundwave(who is voiced by his original 1980s TV show VA, Frank Welker), Devastator & Sideswipe. Will you be giving the sequel a shot before writing off the movie series all together?

Hey Cheapy and Wombat, I'm just curious if there are plans to provide CAGS with some kind of comprehensive list of all the new features the site will have available when Super programmer John is done. Each week Cheapy mentions new things that are in the works but with each new feature added, I grow more and more certain that I will end up overlooking a lot of fantastic features that I didn't realize were available. Thanks.

Hey Cheapy, just wondering if you had noticed that you can now pre-order Modern Warfare 2 from GS. I did it, and now I have to wait 'till November lol... but it will be worth it once it is out.
