GGT 108... wait, no. THE OFFICIAL FAST AND THE FURIOUS THREAD

As much as I enjoyed Demon's Souls, there are definitely things that the developer did wrong, mostly their constant, purposeful habit of leaving the player in the dark about how things within the game world worked. If someone tells you that they really "got" Demon's Souls without looking it up online, they are lying to you.

Gameplay mechanics were all explained. The Light and Dark mechanics though were not fully explained. If you bought the deluxe version that came with the mini strategy guide, then you would have all the information you needed. The regular game manual actually has a lot of information. People don't read those anymore?

I tried playing demons souls more than once but just couldn't get into it. Also didn't read the manual, but most manuals today are like 2 pages so it didn't really cross my mind to see if it was actually useful

I actually made that abundantly clear in my non-edited review, but because of the short review length on the site I had to cut my 3 page review down to roughly a paragraph.

I put 6 hours into the game (all online), and outside of maybe 2 times, I hated every minute. The game does its absolute best to make you feel powerless, and I didn't like it. I can completely understand how someone would love the game and how it could make you feel like you accomplished something, but at the end of the day, I only had two scores to give it: good or bad, and I had to go with the one that was closest to 2 out of 5.

Edit: Also, some of the people online were fuckin' dicks. I don't know if it's the same now, but when I played some people had written all these fucking messages on the floor and each one would kill you if you did what it said. Bullshit. Most unhelpful online component ever.
Wtf? Teleport=meter build? M.Bison needs that upgrade.
Meter builds in MK9 when (1) you take damage (2) your opponent blocks your attacks (3) you use special moves or (4) you get the first hit.

So since teleport is a special, yeah, you can probably use it to get some meter.

(1) You're not married. Yet.
(2) If gas station chica is hotter than your fiancee and you're still feeling annoyed and aggravated by fiancee, get yourself relaxed and let the good times roll. Could be the worst decision you've ever made. Could also be the best. :p

I understand, Frosty. I'll definitely see how things go tomorrow night. Hopefully it's just really chill and I'll get to dance.

You should dump your fiancee tonight so you can be free tomorrow.

I read most manuals actually, and did read the one for DS and like Jimbo I was still confused on stuff, or felt like I wasn't given a clear understanding of choices before I made them.

For instance picking a character class without having any real idea of how the game plays, so you just pick something, like I picked a bow using ranged class and then discovered that buying arrows ended up being really costly at the start of the game so I couldn't really use it very often.

Also, I was talking to Uraizen about this and found this about the 3-1 boss, which also kind of embodies my complaints with parts of the game:

"Fool's Idol is one of the less stressful boss encounters. She never seems to be in a hurry to kill you, and as long as you have plenty of arrows and/or spices she should go down easily. One caveat, though: Remember that guy sitting above the church near the key and begs you not to kill him? Kill him. It sounds heartless, but if you fight Fool's idol without killing him, she will re-spawn when you re-enter the boss room, and you will need to go through the entire battle again and again until you get over your empathy for crazy dreglings things."

That isn't what I call clear at all.
do it over skype. I'll call her, and we can all enjoy the show.
GameStop used copy without manual. Real Talk, about my review: I'm not saying it's a bad game. I just did not like it.
The truth is out. Then your review system is flawed in the sense of rating it either good or bad. Like I said, we play games for the enjoyment. If you do not enjoy the game, then try to find out why others enjoyed it, but never berated them for enjoying something (not saying you did).

People said they had rage tantrums playing Demon's Souls, I maybe died 10 times my first play through. It never felt hard to me ever until you get into New Game++. Also grinding early on in word 3-1 was a helped to get through world 2. Speed kills in DS. I did get the Old King Sword very early on the game, used the dragon bone smasher to keep the Old King at bay.

I could go on about the game. It was truly a unique game that deserves its praise for quality, atmosphere, music and gameplay. The disc is only a portal to a long journey. Sadly all my awesome characters have disappeared to a freak ylod accident. It torments me to even try to go back to the game.

As for critical writing, it is a subject game. The ones that become successful at it are able to critically compare why they lacked enjoyment or loved every moment. Though I honestly believe game reviews should be compared to their counter part (best game of that genre).

Unlike movies where you just consume, video games requires us to progress based on our skill to overcome. A game should allow you to grow metaphorically and physically (ie character and your abilities to play the game) which will translate into experiences that you cannot recreate (MP socom 1v4 last round type situations or Portal type of puzzles). The experience of accomplishment should always be rewarded.

Every victory in Demon's Souls is a rewarding accomplishment. Best example for me was beating the game the first time and the being invaded by black souls one after another, while I still had over 1 million souls. It was amazing I came out alive against three black souls (player invader). That made the game for me from awesome to fuckING AWESOME.

While I don't want to dismiss j-cart's actually quite reasonable post, I think we've strayed from the point that

JOEL. YOU NEED TO DUMP THIS BITCH TONIGHT.

Though once you do that, you should go back and read j-cart's post, as I agree with his sentiment on just about everything.

Imagine the skype fireworks if he could drop the knowledge that he was getting some strange in the middle of the breakup?

"Yeah, well, you're so batshit insane, I decided you'd probably be okay with me fucking another girl. So guess what I did Saturday night?" :)
I have no comment on Demon's Souls since I never beat it, but jcart is now my hero for posting that husky picture
Speaking of Demon Souls, anyone wanna play that with me when PSN actually works? I never enjoyed it single player.
Didn't I tell you that Demon's Soul doesn't work like that?
/edit: Linkpwns, lets do it. I got low level characters now that I can help with. We can cheat and use skye chat. That is when the PSN comes back online.
Awesome, I'm down.

Why is he dumping his fiancee?
Philly cheesesteaks >>>> Bostom clam chowder.
You'll be jelly to know that a few friends and I are making a trip out from NY to Philly for a concert, and we are leaving extra early to grab some legit Philly cheesesteaks.
Dunno what bribri is gonna do, considering he's a veggie.

But you can't hate on good Clam Chowder, man. Shit's so good.

She is in a different state than him.
I still love you Joel :)

Pat's is the bomb. Geno's sucks. There is always a line at either one. When ordering from Pat's just say "Steak, Wit, Cheese. Cheese Fries."

Bribri gonna smoke weed and stare off into space while you stuff your face.

Also I'm not hating, I'm just stating.

Well that explains it.

I've been to either Pat's or Geno's before. Can't remember which. But based on how you're telling me to order, i think it was Pat's. And I remember it being significantly delicious.

Probably not, but he may be shit faced. I'm Designated driver :/
Even then, he can't eat that meat. Well, he can, but he's a pussy, and decides not to.
Pat's the the yellow one in the middle of the street.
Yeah, i've been there then. We'll probably go back there. Is that more-or-less the best?

Aren't the two across the street from each other?

They actually both are only okay (although they are great compared to other places not in Philly). I would recommend Steve's Prince of Steaks in the Northeast, Tony Luke's on Front and Oregon or Jim's on South Street, or about 10 other places above those. Is the concert at the Electric Factory? Cause I can recommend a few places near there. If it's at the TLA, go to Jim's on South.

Also, just for the record, you order fries / drinks / whatever at a separate window and they are quite serious about this rule at both places. I've seen many tourists get rude looks and pointed in the proper direction before. Oh and you don't say steak or cheese or "wit" for that matter (totally a tourist thing), you just say Whiz / Provolone / American and then with or without (sauteed onions). For example, my typical order is "whiz without".

FWIW, I like Geno's over Pat's.

Best of the original PhillyCheese Steak. There is this place in Orange County that I think is way better :D

Shit, I knew cheese was whiz. Because they use cheese "whiz" duh. You can't see it, but I just face palmed myself.

Yeah, I'm familiar with the system. Roll'n Roaster is similar like that. One line for roast beef sandwiches, and another for fries and drinks. The concert is at The Barbary, which is apparently right by the 95. It's on Frankford.

There's a place in NYC that does a really good Cheesesteak too. It's called Carl's. But it's not nearly as greasy as I remember pat's being. It's still delicious.

Pat's is a white building actually. It's pretty plain looking.

Geno's is an orange / white building with LOTS of neon lights and other "flair" decorating the building. They are literally across the street from each other.

I can understand why others enjoyed it, I did not however and think that the difficulty (and as Icebeezy said, the murkiness of some of the game) is horseshit. The game is hard just to be hard.

I completely understand critical writing and what it takes to be good at it. As I said in my last post, my initial review is fucking massive but I had to cut it down, not just because of the length but because my editor said that I got into a lot of things that just did not belong in this short type of review (the comparisons and in-depth analysis of what I thought it did wrong).

As it says in the last sentence of my original review, I can completely understand why someone would like it, but that someone is not me and I can see what the game does wrong from a design standpoint. I talked about what the game did wrong in my eyes. It was my call on what to give the game and I gave the game my honest score. It was a bad way to spend my time.

I don't understand why any of this is such a big deal.
