Golgo 13's No Pantsu Anime & Manga Thread

So I have decided I'm down with Gurren Lagann.....

Even at ep 10-12 I don't feel this series really has any future.

I've moved on to Code Geass.

Waiting for the last dvd for Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid. So far the series is pretty darn good but I'm sad that I will finished it so soon.

I still haven't read the last Ranma 1/2 manga volume because I'm going to be sad when it ends. Sounds crazy, I know.

Holy SHIT Claymore just jumped the shark like nothing I've ever seen in ch. 79.

I don't know if I even want to continue any more.

It's enjoyable up to that point, although it's nothing too deep or anything.

But god damn, I honestly can't believe what just happened in terms of the plot. You know how level1online has his conspiracy theories? It's kinda like that, except it's completely non sequitur from the rest of the story and is a massive stretch, and it's going to be the basis of the rest of the story.

How does the Claymore anime compare to the manga?
Meaning..
How far does the anime go into the manga in number of chapters and are there any major differences?

That is my only problem with the latest development, some of what was said in this theory have never been even hinted at or mentioned before, you would think something like
The land they are on being the only one they know of
would have been said more then once before now. I'll still continue it but I have no idea where the story is going anymore.

Pretty close till episode.. 22ish. Then its really different to give the anime a "better" feeling ending but it just sucked. Too much bawwwwwwwing.
I am waiting the next Welcome to the NHK dvd to come out.
thats a great series definetly worth watching. if you like that check out the Genshiken series too.

Do you know the manga chapter correspondence?
I'm debating whether I should continue watching Code Geass on [as] or just watch subs....another way ;) Cause this whole week between episodes is a bit much. And I kinda wanna watch R2 while it's airing in Japan.
I almost want to tell you to support it on AS at this point but, I know what you're feeling. This week wait for R2 is, basically killing me.

I ended up going with the alternate means, but I'm still gonna watch it on [as]. It's not quite up to the level that Gurren Lagann was, but it's still pretty enjoyable for a mecha anime. I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying it. I've gotten through 14 or 15 episodes so far. Looking forward to watching more now that my tough final is done.
So I'm watching Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann and WOW this shit so far is fucking awesome!
i love the opening sequence, especially the parts where kamina, yoko, simon are yawning and watching the sunrise. that show has a unique style that i really enjoyed, over the top action and crazy sunglasses

Finally broke down from the hype and started watching Gurren Laggan. I just finished episode 4 and so far its just reminded me of how generic most mecha shows are (and the series insisting upon itself that its cool because its made by Gainax doesnt help). So of course I gotta ask, is there a good storyline to this series, or is it just a 'beastman of the week' up until they fight the main badguy?

Don't worry, it'll ramp up soon enough.
Too bad they made the ending super lame.
Seriously.

I just saw the ending yesterday and was very disappointed.

I watched the first 12-15 eps of Gurren Lagann and it's pretty typical for about the first 7.

Then things change a bit and I got interested.

Then things started to go back to being the same and I dropped the series.

I'm now on to Code Geass (only 2 eps in) and I'm already much more excited.

Latest Naruto manga finally confirms a lot of theories that have been running around for years. I see where this is going
Sasuke becoming the main villian
but i'm a little curious how the anime will handle this part of the story, the entire issue is really only about 5 minutes of story, a lot will have to be added to drag this out to 20 some minutes.

if hat hes telling sauske is true and considering how it seems like madara
isnt in the best of shape even though hes supposed to be immortal i bet he will give sauske his eyes so he can get revenge for their clan.
. im definelty loving the manga now this is a pretty good back story on the history of konoha and its beliveble that a that would happen that way. keep your friends close and your enemies closer. also jealousy and envy play a big part of the majority of the series stories.

Man, I'm so fcuking annoyed. :bomb: I 'went' to ACEN this year at the last minute because my friend had never been to one and didn't want to go alone. So I figured it wouldn't be so bad (despite my previous experience going to any type of convention w/o registering at the last minute). I was dead wrong. My friend & I essentially waited 5 hrs in line to register... despite the fact that I could only go on Friday and thus missed all the events of the day. We got there at 3pm (because we both could only take half a day off both our respective jobs) only to leave at 8pm unregistered and missing all the events. Admittedly, part of it was our fault for doing so at the last moment kind of thing but fault could also be laid on the heads of the ACEN registration staff for failing to coordinate both their staff as well as their human entity logistics (i.e. how to streamline the registering process). You can be sure if this happens again in the future (which I'm sure it will ), I will insist we register a minimum of 2 weeks before the event... like the San Diego ComicCon. The only consolation is we got to take some pics of the cosplayers (including my friend imitating Zack from DOA4):

Assassin's Creed

Cammy from Street Fighter

Rei from NGE

Cloud & Angeal from FF:CC

Cloud & Angeal 2

Hellsing

Zack from DOA4

Zack 2

Cool, but thats not Rei from NGE.
Its Eureka from Eureka Seven I think.

I'll second that that is Eureka not Rei.

That aside , "Rei" , Hellsing and Zack were the best I'd say.

Was a 6 hour wait for me to register at Anime Boston this year. I didn't mind though since we went early in the morning, and I was there for the whole weekend.

That's not Rei. How dare you...

Well, I hadn't bought any manga in a long time, so I took advantage of the Tokyopop sale on Rightstuf last night. I only got about $50 of stuff though. I got the rest of Yubisaki Milk Tea, pre-ordered the second volume of Your and My Secret and I got volumes 3 and 4 of NHK. I think that is right, I was considering some other titles.

The news i'm sure everyone wanted to hear:

BANDAI VISUAL IS DEAD!!!

Bandai Namco Holdings has announced on Friday that it will combine its two video/audio content subsidiaries in America — Bandai Entertainment and Bandai Visual USA — on July 1 and liquidate Bandai Visual USA. The company's announcement still lists Tatsunori Konno as the head of Bandai Visual USA, even though he moved back to Japan this month. As of the end of April, there were officially only two employees of Bandai Visual USA. The liquidation of Bandai Visual USA is expect to be completed by the end of September.

Bandai Visual USA was established on January 5, 2005 with an emphasis on collectors' editions of Bandai Visual titles from Japan. It met with heavy resistance to its prices which were similar to those in Japan, but far above those in the rest of the North American anime market. It has US$4 million in capital and, as of last December 31 (the end of its last accounting period), US$2.983 million in total assets. During the accounting period that ended last December, it sold US$1.151 million worth of goods, but lost US$595,000 before taxes.
I hope this means that Bandai Entertainment gets all the licenses and dvds will be released at BE's pricing. I'd much rather pay $60 for a season brick than $40 for a half hour of subbed only.

I know I am engaging in some schadenfreude, but this needs to be said...

While I feel for the supporters of BV, lord knows Geneon's death affecting Black Lagoon hit me hard, this story is not surprsing. That's what happens when you have high priced, sub-only stuff.
I am beginning to read Monster, this stuff is pretty cool.
I remember someone on CAG said it was really good, but I can't remember who.

I'm reading Those Who Hunt Elves right now. Pretty funny stuff.

If you read the actual press release you'll see that Bandai still plans to handle releases the same way that Bandai Visual did. BV was just absorbed into BE. So all their licenses aren't going anywhere.
The company will continue to pursue simultanous releases between Japan and America for relevant titles in the form of packaging production being handled in Japan and so forth.
Which means sub-only releases if you want it to be simultaneous. My guess is they're probably going to adopt the format that BE is using for Gurren Lagann with the sub-only release coming first followed by the dub release later.

I could care less about subs (i prefer subs over dub). It was the whole paying $240 for a 2.5 hour OVA that is sub only (which in common sense, should be cheaper than dubbed anime).

There are a lot of people on this board that love Monster. It's my #2 favorite series. I'd recommend the anime over the manga just because adding voice, music, and the animation makes the story flow so much better. It transferred really well from manga to anime, I remember there were times where the scenes and words would match eachother word for word. You have to resort to fansubs for now, but from what I understand, Viz bought the rights to the anime. I wouldn't expect to see anything from them about a release for another year or so though.

They're making an americanized movie based on the Monster manga. I'm hoping once that comes out, something will get announced. Maybe we'll get lucky and "Another Monster" will get a local release.
I am beginning to read Monster, this stuff is pretty cool.
indeed. the first several episodes of the anime were edge of your seat intense.

i just finished a ton of Ah my Goddess. i usually don't enjoy these "guy gets slave/robot/magical girl" shows.. but this one was really entertaining.

If you want it the same day as the Japanese release, and video quality as good as region 2 releases, then no it's not going to be cheaper.
I remember someone on CAG said it was really good, but I can't remember who.
ME. Man, I must've pushed that show/manga for at least a year, but at least it drove people to actually check it out.

Nope, nobody has the license for the anime yet. Viz was merely showing it off to other potential licensors, but they themselves don't have it.

As cheesy as the premise of the new Golgo 13 anime is, I still find it highly enjoyable action schlock. Also, anyone seen Garden of Sinners? I haven't checked it out yet but it looks promising.

So I just finished Shakugan no Shana II, and I feel like I wasted a good amount of my life. Basically I'm rather disappointed in it.

Something i whipped up in paint real quick:
