BOF III is complete horse shit imho.  LONG, tedious, and slow.  I played for roughly 6-7 hours and only had like 3 party members, none of which I cared about, and none of which had anything cool about them.  And by then I had only just got the 3rd character...  I really really enjoyed BOFIV though.  Maybe if I replayed it now I wouldn't as much, it's been a while.  Dragon Quarter... I think I played an hour and a half before I said fuck it haha.

And Theatrhythm is a fantastic game.  I love music games.  I love FF OST's.  Perfect matchup, and I would kill for a "sequel" using different series.  I actually bought every single DLC song for it, I loved it so much.  Really pissed me off that the iOS version has exclusive songs, though I know I'll eventually cave and just buy those handful (since the core game is free for iOS, though it doesn't have some of the cooler aspects of the 3DS version).

Hexyz Force is incredibly easy. I think I've had one game over the entire time. I'm not even grinding, you can avoid enemy encounters and on my second trip through the room I just run away from everyone.

In other (awesome) FFX news, the X/X-2 HD collection comes with an artbook. As if I needed anymore reason to buy the game!

Wait, so was I supposed to not like FFX? Cuz they did a terrific job at that then.
No, you're supposed to not like Spec Ops. FFX isn't nearly on that level of artistry.

Honestly, FFVI is a fun game but I'm sort of getting the sames vibes I got with IV. A really dense amount of random battle encounters along with hit and miss drama.

January 18th on Persona 3. Cramming in making as many ultimate weapons as I can. Hoping I can finish the Aeon S. Link before wrapping up.

Didn't realize until today that The Answer was a standalone part of FES. I thought it'd take into account levels/equipment and shit. I'm playing Portable, so I'd just planned to catch the highlights on youtube. Looks like I'm picking it up now though!

Alright so what am I doing wrong here: I got Sabin, Edgar, Setzer and Cyan back. Then I went to the Veldt Cave and got Relm and Gau, though Relm won't leave her bed and join my party yet. Then I got Terra. Now I'm lost. Looked at some guides and apparently I let Shadow die (whatever), but more importantly, certain event triggers aren't firing for me because Relm still hasn't joined up. Anyone know how to get her to leave her bed?

I'd like to face Kefka now but I tried it and it seems impossible to advance without 3 decent parties.

try going to Jidoor and then back to Relm's house and see if that triggers something.

I really liked shadow , the way his past was revealed through dream sequences by staying at inns and the subtle hints through out that let you piece it together.

EDIT: Still learning about this game years later. Did you anybody know you can do a 'Limit Break' with any character? You need to be at low HP a la FF8 and do a critical hit.

Also,
with Gogo you can actually assign other characters skills to him by going to his status screen. Under Mimic are 3 empty slots that you can assign any command. If you choose Magic, Gogo will have all the spells of the current party he is with.

If I remember correctly she keeps saying "i'm groggy". You need to leave the town and go do some more events around the WOR. When you go back to the town, the towns people will say she left the town and went to joodor. Thats when you go to joodor and find her looking at a painting, or something like that. My memory might be a bit groggy. I didn't save Shadow on my first play through (which was on the original SNES cartridge).

I suggest you go get mog and umaro (If i remember correctly you need Locke to get Mog). Both can be found in the town the game opens in. Can't rember its name.

Would you games recommend these games from the PSN Atlus sale:

  1. Growlanser Wayfarer of Time
  2. Class of Heroes
  3. Crimson Gem Saga
  4. Hexyz Force
  5. Riviera™: The Promised Land

Only one there I have played was Crimson Gem Saga. I liked it at first, but then it felt kinda fetch questy. I got bored about 10 hours in and put it down. Traditional turn based RPG with either 3 or 4 party members from what I remember. Graphics were nice and the battle system was pretty straight forward. Take my opinion with a grain of salt through, as I generally have not enjoyed handheld gaming as much as console/pc gaming.

There are many places you can go.

In Jidoor you should be able to inspect the paintings at the big house and one of them should trigger a fight, then you should be able to go find Relm, then use Relm to get Strago at the tower. (It's been a long time since I played a non-Shadow playthrough, so I'm not sure if there actually is an event trigger for this.)

You can get Mog and later Umaro in Narshe. (Don't forget to pick up the Moogle Charm.)

You can get Gogo by going to Triangle Island in the Northeast. Let your entire party get sucked up by a Zone Eater.

You can begin Cyan's sidequest by having him in your party and sleeping in Doma Castle.

You can do the underground castle sidequest by going to Figaro and tunneling, it should bump into something and you can leave through the jail door.

You can find Locke by doing the Phoenix Cave, which you should be able to land on from the airship. Then you have access to Narshe where you can get the Cursed Shield and Ragnarok (either the Magicite or the weapon, whichever you prefer). And with Phoenix Magicite, you can learn Life 3, which is the typical solution to beating the boss at the Tower of Magi.

Then you can go kill Kefka.

I didn't like crimson gem saga. The battles were slow and tedious it got old fast.. growlanser is good but hard.
Playing hexyz force now.. its nothing fancy.
Ygdarra union is on sale. I thought that was pretty good.

Ginger is on sale for $7. That's almost the only one I haven't played.

I second getting GoGo, as my main party was Tera, Sabin, Edgar, and GoGo. Depending on your levels through, Triangle Island may be a bit tough.

Just finished watching The Answer. Thankfully someone has it all compiled. I'm way too burnt out to get back into dungeon mode after plowing through the end to P3 last night. Good shit. Ready for SMT4.

Yeah these are the events that are failing to trigger. I'll just skip those two characters I guess, lol.

You are going to have a harder time getting tio Kefka if you skip them. Each of your three parties has to fight a boss or two in Kefka's tower before reaching Kefka. There are 13 characters you can get in the WOR, and each party can hold up to 4 people. With Shadow dead you almost have to get them to complete your parties.

Here's to hoping SMT4 is good.  Preordered to take advantage of the $30 eshop deal, but I've yet to complete a SMT game...

Persona 1: Just thought it was complete crap on PSP and quickly gave it back to the friend I borrowed it from.
P3: About 80 hours (though much of that was "idle") and
Akihiko got his upgraded Persona IIRC
and I set it aside (school stuff) and am afraid I'd be lost if I came back.

Nocturne:  Got to "the wall" (Matador) and just said fuck it.  Was bored and disappointed in the severe dearth of story.  It gets so heavily recommended I may give it another shot some day.

Digital Devil Saga 1: About 1/2 way through currently, picking away like a dungeon a week...

Also have most of the other SMT games in my backlog... it's a sickness lol.

Don't bother. If you haven't enjoyed it up to that point, then you won't enjoy the rest.

I currently have five MegaTen games in my own backlog, and it'll be six once SMTIV gets here. I really should play through at least a couple of them before the end of the year...

I'm gonna agree with Blueshinra, if the story you were getting wasn't enjoyable and that's what you want to get out of Nocturne you aren't going to like it. Let me say though that I do really enjoy the story of Nocturne, the game is very much about morality and the exploration of being consumed by the purest form of people's inner desires. But the world feels intentionally devoid, because it is given that the world ends at the very start of the game, and you only meet up with the remaining human characters who are important parts of the main story every so often. If I had to liken the story to another game with a similar plot structure I'd say it reminds me a lot of Vagrant Story which I also really adore the plot of (as well as the gameplay). Both games focus on creating this very lonely setting.

Oh man I LOVE Vagrant Story's , well, story.  The gameplay had cool ideas but was kind of ridiculous towards the end.

I think I'll still eventually retry Nocturne because I think I went in with wrong expectations.  DDS and P3 (which I had played before Nocturne) were both pretty story focused, so I was expecting more of the same with Nocturne.

Also I'm more into the dungeon crawl now (loving the SHIT outta Etrian Odyssey IV).

Vagrant story is awesome. I love every game Matsuno has touched, or at least so far. Kind of want a 3DS to try out Crimson Shroud which I know he played a role in.

The news is in. So far Shin Megami Tensei IV has a 87 on Metacritic. That means I got to get a 3DS soon but still wanting for a price drop or decent sale. Also Time and Eternity got a 40 if anyone cares.

Can anyone recommend Etrian Odyssey 1-3? I've got them already and I'm wondering if I should open and play them before I get IV.

Ok, I liked it here before, but I love it now. I always feel alone in my love of Matsuno, but I think it's just because a lot of people still haven't played much associated with him.

Crimson Shroud is actually pretty slick. It's obviously a much lower budget title, but it's reeks of that Matsuno/Yoshida charm that pulls me in every time. The tabletop thing is gimmicky, but still entertaining. The fact that everyone is a tabletop game piece just made me mad that I could buy/display them myself. NewGame+ is necessary to get the full experience, but I was happy to run through it again. I'd say my first playthrough was 10-11 hours, maybe? Might be making shit up. I did do a lot of back and forth/item farming though.

Music's great too, but if you're a fan of Sakimoto, that's not really a surprise.

The stories in each game are stand-alone, so you shouldn't have to worry about that end of things. However, since each game improves on the last, it would probably be difficult to go back to the older ones if you play IV first.

If you already have the first three, I'd say play them in order; even though each new Etrian Odyssey is better than the last, the series overall is great.

I'll pick up SMt 4 when it drops slightly in price or there's some sort of bog1 half off sale somewhere,
There's that soul hackers game too.

I'm tempted because I just finished Project X Zone, but I think I'll just chill with Animal Crossing for a month and then pick up Dream Team.

Club Nintendo have this promotion when you register both Fire Emblem: Awakening and SMT 4, you get $30 eShop credit till August 31st.

Got SMT 4 preordered. The $50 price is too steep, but I fear supply issues for the retail box. I'm now just gonna grab Fire Emblem to get that $30 credit.

What franchise plays kind of like SMT? I've never played a game in the series before but I'm interested in SMT IV because of the LE box and the $30 credit since I already bought Fire Emblem.

This might sound really weird, but to me, gameplay-wise, SMT games are most like Dragon Quest ones. It's mostly in that they're both traditional turn-based JRPG series that sometimes have monster recruitment, and the flow and general feeling of battle is pretty similar, too.

Playing through Shining Force: Sword of Hayja. Man I miss old school SF, mybe with Xcom & Fire Emblem being big hits we can get another one here? I'd settle for a collection that included the parts of III that were never released over here.

Sega seems to hate money as much as Squeenix when it comes to sequels to great rpgs. I'd rather have a new Skies of Arcadia, anyway.

Kinda shelved Persona 2. I'll get back to it some day, I'm sure.

Etrian-O IV has me now. About to the halfway mark and OMG, I haven't party-wiped yet! (I hope I didn't just jinx myself....)

there are about 15 games from spiderweb software. (avenum, geneforge, etc) on sale today. On sale from humble bundle. Sorry.
average is only $5.
tempted, maybe, but i know I'd never play them.
