Lost Odyssey - Gen. Discussion & Info
So the loading times aren't bad? Good to hear.

Any issues with gameplay?
Framerate is kinda spotty, and theres fixed camera for exploring, but those are minor annoyances.

I just got to the top of the hill
I'm having one hell of a time trying to beat this damn dragon. I've read that there's a shield spell in the hut if you go turn the candle in between the beds on. I'm going to give that a shot cause I'm really getting annoyed at how easily my whole team gets whiped out so early in the game.

Video I took of the battle load time. Sorry if crappy quality, it was taken on my digital camera =p

Not too bad since someone said the game doesn't require too much grinding, if it did however I could see that getting annoying.

In any case, I'll probably grab this with my $10 CC gift card and use that gamers card for 10% off as well.

wow load time only seem like 5-8 seconds, excellent compared to the Horror stories of the Imports which were said to have load times of 15-30 seconds

Pretty much 9-11 seconds to see the enemy and 10-12 to be able to enter commands. This is the only thing keeping me from unsealing the game. I guess if the battles dont occur too randomly it might not get that annoying.

LoL at the people who complained about load times. It seems just fine to me...the loading style for the battles remind me of FFVIII with the camera pans and all. Very nice.

I just got finish playing for the night, and the load times seem very good for the type of game, low encounter rate certaintly helps the cause, wow awesome game, Great English Voice overs

hey guys gettin this game very soon.. sorry if it's been discussed but I saw this:

I had a hard time too. What you have to do is put Jansen and Seth in the back...leave Kaim up front. Then, nail the dragon with Flare spells from jansen, while Seth and Kaim heal whomever.

One key thing that I didn't find out until I read about myself; items ALWAYS go first, no matter what

Well, I decided to bite the bullet and pick this baby up tonight, and I'm really enjoying it so far. The load times are a non issue, IMO. The load times are no different than any other game. I never found myself sitting there scratching myself waiting for the game to load.

Voice acting is well done. Not on par with Mass Effect, but it's still very quality. Love the story so far, and the opening half hour was so bad ass. If I had any gripes about the game so far, it would be lack of a narrator for the dreams. However, I'm a pretty fast reader so having the ability to turn the page instantly is a plus.

So to anyone who is on the fence, GET IT! I would say the game falls more towards the GT review than GS.

I have $45 in BB credit that's burning a hole in my pocket...so close to pulling the trigger bu bu but I don't know.

Well im about 6 hours in and not very far. Just passed the first boss which gave me my first defeat, a few times actually, and thank GOD you start at the boss again, rather then back at the save point. But so far this game has been VERY AWESOME. Im loving everything about it. Load times are nonexistant for me (plenty of stuff going on to distract) and im seeing no framerate issues or any other shit people keep complaining about.

But maybe its the fact that im a pretty casual gamer for the most part, and dont try to dissect a game for every little flaw. The story so far is awesome, the dream sequences are very very well done (even though every time one pops up, im like, damnit another one? But i read them because they are always worth it). That battle system is i guess standard fare, (not a big RPG player. There arnt too many random encounters.

So from someone who doesnt play alot of RPG's. (Never played any final fantasy games before). this is definitly worthy of my 65 bucks. I'm hooked and loving it.

BTW, at the first boss i was only like lvl 12-13 which from what i hear is a little low. Ohwell. Good times for sure.

4 hours in and really enjoying it so far. I'm having trouble with the ring timing...I've gotten a few perfects, but mostly good. What exactly am I supposed to do? I know I'm supposed to release R trigger once the second ring enters the first ring, but would anyone mind giving me an in-depth explanation?

Oh yeah, and the first boss was tough...since I was mindlessly choosing commands during battle. I didn't even think about changing the formation, and after I did, I beat the boss with ease. Spammed those flare spells!

If you were like me, on the ring timing you're probably a bit early. Delay about a half a second and your perfect ratio should improve.

Did anyone pre-order this from Game Crazy? I think they have another Eternal Sonata situation (promised the same pre-order as Gamestop but didn't have it.) Luckily with both ES and LO, I pre-ordered at Gamestop as well, so Game Crazy lost my money. Any news on this Scorch?

Funny thing is both stores ran out of guides (I only get guides with RPG's.) Game Crazy got 1 copy of it because it was pre-ordered, and Gamestop went through all 10-plus of their guides before I could get there.

I'm pretty sure nothing was promised with Lost Odyssey. What did they say there was?

My store also only got one guide because it was preordered. I don't know why. They usually truckload us on guides.

The game for me has been about so-so thus far, it's still too early to say. I can certainly say it isn't bad though. The writing in the dream sequences is really good for a localized game and do spark a slight bit of emotion but nothing to the amount I was expecting when I keep seeing people say, "Depressed people shouldn't play this." Granted it could get 'worse' as time goes on but if you cut yourself because of a game, you have problems that aren't the games fault.

Anyways, the first boss battle was total bull.
I died three times due to the bosses random attacks being completely not in my favor what so ever. First time he spammed AoE the first three turns and I was wiped out. Second time it was three poisons and then an AoE and he just finished me off. Third time was two AoE's and then a few poisons, and then an AoE. I just couldn't keep up with the healing while damaging. However, the fourth time the boss did all normal single target attacks and I blocked all but the last two, barely taking any damage. Of course I was using fire and the three fire bombs I had found up to that point in the game.

The battle gameplay itself isn't bad. I usually get perfects on my attacks with the ring system. Got a few Bads which were caused by me hitting the use button instead of letting go of the trigger like a retard. It's pretty straight forward outside of that and even lets you change equipment at will during battle without using a turn. Magic on the other hand is similar to Blue Dragon in the sense that you can find magics around in the environment much like items. Two I've found so far require a multi-step process which is kindof cool but they're both pretty easy to find seeing as it's still early in the game. Also like what was mentioned earlier it seems that items get the first priority in battle sequence for that turn. Oh and if an immortal dies, they will automatically resurrect after a couple turns pass by in battle.

Loading isn't as bad as many reviewers make it out to be but the very beginning of the game did load faster than when I was on my first mission. I also noticed that if you accidently enter a new area that has to take a little bit to load, you can go back to the last area you were at with minimal load times thanks to the HDD cache I assume. Though if you wait too long it will be just as long to load the previous area again. Hopefully load times won't worsen as the game continues on.

I had also hit a glitch literally at the beginning of the game once you're past the opening sequences and such. The second crate you run into I had hit it but a battle initiated at the very same time. Well I finished the battle but when I was back out onto the map controlling my character, I was unable to move or open the menu. I could still pause and everything else but I was basically stuck until I reset. Dumb luck on my side but I hope I don't have this happen to me again.

Finally, I haven't really experiences frame slowdown in the sense where it feels like the frame rate is slow and everything moves slow like it's choppy. It's more like frame skipping but isn't really slowing the game down at all. I don't know how you guys are seeing it but that's what it looks like to me. Though it doesn't bother me much and it isn't serious, at least not yet. However when I entered the center courtyard in the high magi's house (I forgot his name), I did run from one door to the other and it was very noticable in that particular area for me.

One last thing that may be of interest to some. I usually put japanese voices on when I have the option but the characters mouths move in accordance to english speaking and the subtitles do not match with what the characters are saying in japanese. Figured I'd throw that out there.

Disc one is pretty short, it took me about 12 hours to reach there and i did some decent grinding for skills with some moderate exploration on last city. There is far more gameplay after the first two hours. So far, I didn't find the loading times that bad. They're noticeable, but it is defiantly tolerable. Mass Effect is far worst offender then this.

Boy.. there is pretty good amount of extra features in this game. I probably going to pick up guide. I don't want to spend my time figuring it all by myself.

Yeah, the lip syncing is a bit annoying...I prefer the Japanese voices, but decided to switch over to English for now 'cause they don't sound too bad. Kaim's English voice is rather annoying, though.

Also, while the dream sequences are very well written, they're a little too long for my tastes. Maybe I'm just too impatient and don't enjoy reading through walls of text. xD If they made cutscenes out of these, I'd probably enjoy them more. I guess that's asking for a little too much since the game is already pretty cutscene heavy.

I think what really would have helped if they would've had Kaim narrarate those dream sequences rather than the player having to read those parts. The background could have shown a slide show or something close to a cutscene that portrayed the current part of the dream. I love how well the dreams are written, but to read the whole thing it does seem a bit long.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Kaim's voice. When I think Seth, I think of my fat friend from high school, not a girl..

I think I may have to go out and get that guide, cause the sidequests in this game aren't as organized as say Mass Effect, where you can find the status, etc. There may be times where you don't realize you completed a side quest in this game.

Well, 3 hours in, finished the first boss. The loading inst that bad, kind of annoying at first (as I was nitpicking it), but ultimately forgettable.

I think this will be a good one.
2nd boss is REALLLY pissing me off
He killed me too. I can beat the first one no problem, but then the second one pops in with a full MP bar...

You get a Yellow Band before you get to this fight that gives Paralysis immunity, you should get that skill on Kaim and Seth before the fight, though its possible without it (I did it without). Pretty much start out by using All-Shield and then have Kaim attack and heal, and Seth/Jansen use Prism to kill all the little bugs. Aqua on the big boss.
I hear this game is average
So are you going to let that stop you from trying the game? At least give it a rental/netflix it/borrow it from a friend, whatever...I hardly let peoples' opinions get in my way when it comes to games. Then again, a lot of the games that I enjoy would be considered very niche to the average gamer, which is why opinions and reviews hardly ever matter to me. Games like DOAX2 are easy targets, but I enjoy them, so who the hell cares? :D

Yup, did that right before I read this post. Killed him pretty easily. Thing is I completely forgot about prism.

What I did, and seemed to be the best strategy considering saving MP...was have Jansen use Aqua EVERY round on big guy...then have either Jansen or Seth use Prism once...then have them at attack the little guys with physical attacks each round. This keeps the big guy from stealing MP from the little guys all at once (at which point it shocks you) and also lets you control when he does his uber fire spell.

Plus, Prism takes two rounds to cast and doesn't kill ALL of them. Those two rounds could have been spent casting Aqua...and one more Aqua kills the big guy anyways...

Let me know if that helps, if you try it.

This game reminds me of a Japanese take on Planescape Torment. Just without all the AD&D refrences. And less crazy with the plot and charecters. I still love that floating skull.

Anway a good game that I really like. Definetly at least an 8 from what I've played. Although I dont like to speak until I beat a game and do 100% of the side quests too.

EDIT:
Eternal Sonata was average. This game is above average. Definetly a must buy for JRPG fans who own a 360.

I'm impressed on how well Prima covered Lost Odyssey for all aspects- displaying all maps, treasures, drop list, weapon synthesis, secret treasures and maps. I can't validate their boss strategies, but they seem good just by flipping through pages. Prima guides always get a bad rap for guides being "big instruction manual", but when it comes to rpg guides, they do pretty good job of it.

Is this really dark for everyone else too? The thing is waaaaaaaay too dark. Unfortunately there's no brightness/gamma setting :bomb:

The trailer for it last year looked normal, and the same stuff in the game is hard to make out. Add to that my ears are bleeding from the blender, and I'm not super happy.

Crappy thing is the intro looks really cool. Reminds me of how Final Fantasy 10 threw you into the middle of these battles-really impressive except that it's like pitch black :D

Theres a brightness control as soon as you start the game. It's in the initial settings before it goes into the intro sequence and fight on the battlefield.

It's one of the last controls. On my TV it's actually kind of bright and I had to tune it down. It's running in 1080P on mine.

To answer your question, no, its just fine for me. Probably your settings on your TV/monitor.

I'll have to pick it up when my copy of the game gets here.

I'm with you, the darks are REALLY dark...everything else is alright. I don't like that I cant change the brightness in the game, have to do it on my TV. Oh well, I'm surviving and so far I haven't had any really dark areas except that beginning sequence and battlefield aftermath area.

Brightness is fine for me.

Man, the dream sequences and some parts of this game are getting really dark. I've shed some tears...
