Riley basically created all the Van Gundys. Stan and Jeff should be greatful for Riley's teachings and the opportunities he gave them.
I disagree that Stan could have taken this team to the finals. First off, the players like Shaq and Zo were bitching about STAN and nobody listened to his wacky plays. Stan wouldnt have the balls to hack a Ben Wallace or take out Shaq cause he sucks at fts. Stan coaches to blow leads and lose close games. Riley coaches to win.
Riley is a complete piece of shit and to think they are winning because of him is laughable. How many times has the man gotten knocked out of the first round while in Miami? How many playoff disappointments has he had since he left New York? And who always beat him in the first round, oh you mean the Jeff Van Gundy, the man he created? Gimme a break, Van Gundy has a totally different play style and won with a far different cast of players after Riley left. To think that Riley deserves credit for either Van Gundy's success is a joke.
Hell if he was such a winner there was no reason to quit after another horrible season a week before the next one started. Stan Van Gundy got a first round victory in his first season as coach and was a healthy shaq and wade away from going to the finals. To think that Riley would have been able to do nearly as well has no truth in it because if it did, he wouldn't have quit right before Stan's first season.
