So I'm playing Digital Devil Saga and just when I think that the game might be just a tad too dark and moody for me, I get to the Amusement Park part of the game. The timing of it was perfect, it gave the game a funnier lighter feel but not too much and also literally "humanizing" the characters. Very good indeed.

I was listening to Active Time Battle today and they were talking with the guy from Spiderman Software about his game Avernum

http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com/

I have no idea what they were talking about... all I kno is for some reason the game sounds real cool and I wanna play it.
I don't remember there being an amusement park, I just remember the final boss of part 1. Terrible boss.
It's the part with the puzzles about the two princes and the princess.
I don't remember there being an amusement park, I just remember the final boss of part 1. Terrible boss.
That boss wasn't so much "terrible" as "tough as shit".
That boss wasn't so much "terrible" as "tough as shit".
Yeah, it had the potential to have like 12 turns in a row or something. I had to walk away from the game for like a month before I got to beat it. Part 2's boss was so much easier.

And, yeah, I remember the amusement park now. It had the whole paintings thing.

I never had much of a problem with DDS's final boss. As for DDS2... I never finished it. I'm still sitting at the entrance to that dungeon.

I'm about half way through Persona, I think. I just finished the good/bad ending split. I don't think I'm doing well at it. My characters have had very few persona attached to them. I think one or two of them have only had 1 persona beside their starter. Plus the enemies now are like 3-5 levels over me, so I can never get their cards to fuse persona.

I just can't bring myself to play SMT Devil Survivor. It'll be the first SMT game released in the states I haven't completed (beside the Gameboy Color one). I tried playing it earlier today, and quickly shut it off after I remember how mind numbing the dialogue & story are. The gameplay was alright, but just not enough keep me hooked for a few more hours just to complete game.

What pissed me off the most is the fact the 3 main characters have the same inspirational conversation like 50 times in the game. The ones that always end with "We'll do our best" or "Let's never give up."

I think that's it for me and DS RPGs/Strategy games. SMT, Suikoden, Valkyrie Profile (all games I love on the consoles) I can't stand on my DS.

I used to feel the same way about the DS, but since I started TWEWY I've been improving my techniques for playing it comfortably. I still prefer consoles, but the DS isn't too bad.

The first chapter of TWEWY led me to believe the game was going to be great, but since then it's kind of gone downhill. Besides Shiki, the characters range from "neutral" to "really piss me off." Especially Beat. He talks like a $$$, and his shit's all retarded. And the soundtrack is awful, save 1 or 2 songs. And I've heard "bro" (and even 1 "bra") more times in this game than in the rest of my life combined.

At least I'm winning battles easily now - thanks for the tips. The gameplay has really grown on me.
And the soundtrack is awful, save 1 or 2 songs.
Blasphemy!! (But I like J-Pop, which certainly helps.)

TWEWY was one of the last games I beat on the DS. I liked it, but it had it's fair share of dull moments too. I just don't get why they have to fill these games with needless dialogue. BTW I loved the soundtrack too. I liked that you could change the tracks.

yyyyyeeeaaaay boiyeee~!!

Im on chapter 6 now on Devil Summoner 2.

like ~33 hours in but got damn this game is a slow burn... unlike Persona 3/4 which is super addicting and makes time fly like an apollyon

Wrapped up the major sidequests in Chrono Trigger and am now near the end, with +90% of all the techs and at least four characters with their HP maxed out. One thing that occurred to me this morning is how short CT is given the amount of content it has. Although RPGs nowadays tend to be longer, how much of this length is really just padding? In CT, there's not even any enemies on the overworld maps!

Nothing against big dungeons and the like (since I like some of that stuff myself); just a thought.

That reminds I need to play some more CT. I finally started it after owning for about a year but never got past the fair...

I got back into ME again. With the sequel coming out soon I wanted to refresh the story(as well as hit level 60). I'll probably get to CT again...someday.... maybe after ME2.

omg! ocd!

I only need to kill one more monster to advance the story in Devil Summoner...

one more monster!!

but I cant coz I jus opened up a bunch of new sidequests!!

it never ends!!

Finished Enchanted Arms (fucking tough ass ice bitch took way too many tries... argh). Not great, but not nearly as bad as I had heard. Also just got to November in P3, so hopefully will finish that before ME2 comes out end of the month. Still gotta finish DA too (at the Landsmeet. all of a sudden completely lost interest).

I'm gonna put EO2 on hold while I get back to Chrono Trigger.

Can somebody please explain WHY there hasn't been another Chrono game? Its been TEN YEARS since Chrono Cross. WTF is wrong with SE? Don't they want my monies?

It's borderline psychotic that SE continues to sit on the Chrono franchise, but they'll pop out 5-6 titles a year with the Final Fantasy logo. Square/Enix needs to take some Capcom pills and reinvent themselves.

It makes perfect sense. SE could sell blank discs for $60 a pop as long as they come in a box that has "Final Fantasy" somewhere in the title. All because FF7 is the greatest RPG, no, the greatest game, ever made.

I'm pretty sure that whole post was sarcasm.

Honestly, what's the point of a new Chrono game? The only thing that's going to drawback to the older games is the use of the name and a time travel mechanic.

Well, Masato Kato (the head brain behind the Chrono series) hasn't really done anything exceptional since Chrono Cross. He's mainly been working the the Mana series, some FFXI expansions, and most recently the Sands of Destruction DS game. I don't think its known what he's working on now.

I do remember Square filing a patent for "Chrono Break" a few years ago, but they never did anything with it.

I think one of the concerns of doing a sequel is probably just getting the band back together to do it. Many of the guys that worked on CT and CC have since left the company.

I just really hope that whenever they do get off their ass and start working on a true sequel, that it won't be on a handheld. I'm getting tired of hearing sequels of old favorites like Lufia and Lunar going that route.

Maybe not even time travel. I mean, Chrono Cross didn't have time travel, it had parallel dimension travel or something like that, right?

In other news, 2 more dungeons and I'm done with Persona. While I've been enjoying the game, some of those dungeons have been murder with all the move-in-that-direction floor panels.

Lunar looks kind of nice. But I'm afraid I won't have the time for it right now. I've got a few RPGs in my handheld backlog(CT,DQ4&5 and Devil Survivor). After ME2 I'll hold off on getting any new RPGs(with the expection of FF13) until I at least knock a few off my list. I'm thinking DQ4 or CT with a little Super Robot Wars Endless Frontier here and there for my DS and Wild Arms 5 for the PS2.
It wont be the same unless they can get the Dream Team back, and Sakaguchi doesnt work for SE anymore
I wasn't even aware that the same team did both games, which was one of my main points. Granted, if they could get that team back again, I actually would want a sequel from them, but if it's just going to be made by someone else not even related to the original project, I really don't see the point.

I agree with you guys, I can't really fathom where a sequel to CT and CC would go because those games were already very loosely linked. And also I too would be scared to see a totally new development team make a Chrono game, but at the same time I'd be interested to see what a new team would try to do.

Chrono Cross was great, but I totally did not get much connection to Trigger when I played it until near the very end. Granted, I played Trigger when I was like 12 and Cross when I was 19. I'll be picking up CT DS soon though, so when I finish that I'll replay CC and see if there were more obvious connections than I remember.

Maybe I should read some sort of transcript of Radical Dreamers or something before starting CC?

God damn, I would love it if Squeenix became more like Capcom in certain ways.

Not gonna happen, though.
hahahahaha Square like Capcom?
Square is the text book example of a Japanese Company being Japanese.
Yeah, SE is almost as Japanese as Nintendo. Their company mindset is just so set-in-their-ways. I really think SE just needs new leadership. But now at least with taking over Eidos, it looks like they're starting to branch out a little more. I'm still optimistic in Dues Ex 3. (It really can't be as bad as DE2).

Alright, I was wondering if I could get some feeback about which game to preorder. I am debating between the new Lunar for the PSP and Sakura Wars for the PS2. I am leaning more towards the Sakura Wars because for some reason I think this game will dry up and if I wait it might be overpriced OOP kind of thing. (75% I'm wrong though). What do you guys think? Or should there be another game I'm preordering?

You should find some way to get both.

The new features in Chrono Trigger DS ties up some loose ends a little better, but it's still doesn't feel like a true sequel. If another Chrono game is ever made they need to totally scrap the entire Cross storyline.

Square Enix did say to expect a big announcement soon regarding a highly requested game. Most everyone says it's a FFVII remake, but I know better. It's a SaGa game.

I didn't play the PS1 port of CT, so this was my first time seeing the anime cutscenes. After getting the regular ending, I really didn't get the bit where
Lucca finds a baby with the blue pendant in the woods. Is this supposed to be Chrono and Marle's kid, or someone else? If this ties into Cross in any way, don't let me know, because I'm finally going to play that soon(ish) and would rather not have any spoilers :p

Seeing as how it was the SaGa series' 20th anniversary just recently, this makes perfect sense. Squeenix does love its anniversaries.

The FFVII remake rumor needs to die a bloody, violent death.

Death via remake... Honestly I'd love to see all the PS1 Final Fantasies with a graphical makeover.
