Slick's Wrestling Thread

Smackdown spoilers, including Edge's opponent for Judgement Day and MITB news.

Jeff Hardy defeated Chris Jericho, Kane, and Rey Mysterio in a four-way to determine the number one contender for Judgement Day.

CM Punk defeated Edge in a non-title match with the Go2Sleep. Immediately after the pinfall, Punk announced he was cashing in the MITB contract, hoping to take advantage of the already beaten Edge. Before the match could start, Umaga appeared out of the crowd to attack Punk and Jeff Hardy came to the back to make the save and attack Edge. Punk left with the briefcase after the faces cleaned house - the match never officially started.

I agree - the giant mole kills it. We should start a thread full of pics of people with unfortunate moles.

You guys are out of your mind. Here's a scenario: The girl is talking to you (yeah, that'll happen) and makes it clear that she's looking for more than conversation. Your response would essentially be "Sorry, babe, but that mole is just not doin' it for me. I gotta go."

I like fairy tales, tell me another.

Dang - very surprising. I just read the Q&As on his site on Sunday. They're full of interesting info about his career and theories about wrestling as well. He posted on the Kayfabe Memories board on a fairly regular basis at one point, but was banned, then allowed back within the past year.

Here's the newest Bryan and Vinny show, with a 15 minute-long tribute to Buddy Rose - http://www.f4wonline.com/content/view/9148/

A video showing his "playboy" lifestyle - in five and a half minutes, it got ever just about every possible aspect of his character. Both WWE and TNA should do more of these things.

"As seen on TV!"

"Weighing in at a slim, trim 217 pounds..."

"I WORKED HARD FOR THIS BODY" t-shirt.

Dusty Rhodes' physique twin shall be missed.
Overdose on Blow Away?
aaahhhahaha
That infomercial was amazing.
My cousin, who didn't "watch" wrestling but would periodically catch a show just because there were so many fans in the family, happened to see that back in the day and she thought it was the most hilarious thing she'd ever seen.
Bummer :(
Nice. I'd completely forgotten about that.
My memory shows the brand power of the WWF/WWE. When I think of Buddy Rose I think of the fat fuck slathering powder on this belly on Prime Time Wrestling, and not the dude who was an excellent Tag-Team Wrestler in the AWA.

cool stuff.. check out who runs into cena
Coach does some pretty good work on ESPN. I've caught him a couple of times on ESPNews and SC. The first time I didn't realize it was him at first. Congrats to him for being able to move up from joke backstage interviewer guy to a respectable position on national TV.

See, I was just the opposite in this case. When I read that he died I thought about the guy who teamed with Doug Sommers and insisted he was 217 lbs. I probably still have the Blow Away segment on a VHS tape somewhere though. Man, PTW was the greatest wrestling show (at least through my rose-colored glasses). Monsoon and Heenan were just classic.

Yeah I've been surprised by how good he is there.. not that it's the most challenging job in the world, but still. If you had asked me 5 years ago if I though Coach would ever move on to something bigger and better, or be decent on ESPNews/SC I would've laughed. They should do some more WWE/SC commercials sometime.
Helms's in-ring days look to be over. He debuted as the new backstage interviewer on ECW last night.
Helms's in-ring days look to be over. He debuted as the new backstage interviewer on ECW last night.
It might just be something to keep Helms on tv while he heals from his injuries(like Lita did when recovering from neck surgery and served as commentator for Sunday Night Heat). He'll probably be back wrestling when he is healed.

I'm still amazed that Vince can bring in some of the scary, biggest guys and after squandering them by feeding them to his faces like they are nothing, he turns them face and which always sucks.

Twenty years and he still hasn't learned.

In the few matches he had after coming back he didn't look good at all. It was more than just ring rust, he just didn't seem completely healthy. Hopefully he's just taking more time to heal up. If not, at least he's out of the ring before getting seriously hurt. I always liked Sugar Shane Helms from the last couple years of WCW. Now if someone would just tell him about EliminINK. Who in their right mind gets their own last name tattooed on their back? Just go buy a hockey jersey.

Joe's a GH:WT player? What drives people to that game over Rock Band, man?

That 1986 Year in Review video was amazing, KR. Did I spy Meatloaf in the video for land of a thousand dances?

True story: in high school I tried to trade a kid a porno video that I swiped from a friends' dad for an LP of The Wrestling Album. Still wish he had gone through. Now I have an lp of AC/DC's Back in Black, but that's a rather common record.

Yeah. Lauper is in there too in a black wig.

(edit - god I love this video)

I can never decide whether my favorite part is Orndorff kissing his muscles rhythmically, or "I'M GONNA SQUASH YA WITH MAH AVALANCHE!!"
"I'M GONNA SQUASH YA WITH MAH AVALANCHE!!"
Skimming the thread after my class this morning, I read this as "man avalanche."

Which is probably a phrase that should stay away from pro wrestling and remain at the twink bars.

EDIT: Joe may be a member here, but if he took one look at the bitching that goes on in the wrestling threads, he'd take one peek and then never come back to 'em.
:whistle2:k Now the witch-hunt begins to find if Joe is a member here or not.
Exactly. Maybe he's waaaaay undercover with some sort of gimmick account. My vote goes to JEKKI.

Or that cat what posts the blogs with the Japanese dolls posed in his house.

EDIT: On second thought, I vote slidecage.

EDIT2: *snif*

After Joe's knife-wielding Umaga/Mad Max hybrid character has run its course, he should start wearing Buddy Rose's shirt. Guaranteed laffs.

Good to see the Sheik has gotten his life together:

Jim Cornette is so fuckin' on the money. But that fat fuck's commentary makes me want to eat a cheeseburger.

What's strange, though, is that it's not as if TNA is devoid of many of these problems either - especially the "saddled with a 500-lb shit gimmick" and/or hackneyed/disastrously unsafe stipulation matches complaints Cornette levies.

To be fair, for all of TNA's many faults, they at least revere tag wrestling.

That was a really good read. I remember watching that exact "Jackass" segment too, and being so embarrassed that I actually was a fan.

I mostly identified with his critiques of scripted promos. If there's one thing wrestlers aren't, it's good actors. Roddy Piper remarked as such (citing "They Live") during the round table talk on the Blu-Ray of "The Wrestler."

Promos simply don't get me excited anymore. They last five times as long as they did in days past, and convey about 20% of the emotion and excitement they did in the past. They're cookie cutter, they're vanilla, they're nonthreatening. The last time I remember thinking "oh, SNAP!" during a promo was when Edge made a dead Terry Gordy reference to Michael Hayes' face.

Not that I expect that sort of stuff every week - but modern wrestling promos, on the whole, are just totally, totally, totally useless in terms of selling tickets.

EDIT: Worst of all, they don't let wrestlers succeed or fail on their own. They don't help separate the good from the bad - because they're all so similar.

Brutus Magnus' new gimmick works for me, a classic, snobby British wrestler. Accompanied by tough ugly brawler Brit (Doug Williams) and a big pile of steroids/enforcer type. (I think they said his name was Rob Terry or something similar)

Yeah, they worked very well as a team I thought. Their muscle looks a bit lost out there for what little he had to do. Nice finisher too, Doomsday Device w/ a European Uppercut instead of the clothesline

Superstars is just starting when I'm at.

I read that Jim Cornette commentary and what hypocritical bullshit. Did he forget he works for TNA?
