Super Mario Galaxy - Gen. Discussion & Info.
I find that as Im wandering around the little worlds, I tend to turn, and twist my neck and head around to try and follow Mario as he begins to run sideways or upside down. I keep on doing this until my neck head is cocked to the side soo much i can feel it, and then I snap back upright and imagine what a tool I must have just looked like.

Of course Im the same guy that totally leans waaay over to the side when turning in racing games, lol.
Sounds like you need the wii fit board. :lol:
Honestly, it's not that bad. First thing you should do is go straight to the mail toad and get you five extra lives. Then on the more challenging levels you tend to get green mushrooms near the very beginning.

It's not quite like Mario 64 where you needed 100 coins to get an extra life outside of green mushrooms. This you only need 50 star bits and those are extremely easy to get.
Agreed. Also, don't forget the green mushroom in the crate by the Toads' spaceship.

What Strell is trying to say is this was him before he got Mario:

8=D

This was him when he picked it up at the store:

8==D

This was him when he put it in the Wii:

8===D

This was him when he first controlled Sir Mario:

8==============================================D

:rofl:

I haven't had much time to play this since the only HDTV available to me here at home is the one in the kitchen. Our big old HDTV has some issues running anything from the Wii that's not true 16:9- meaning without the black bars (the picture suffers from over scan). Really irritates me that it's not full 16x9- I get a black bar on the right side of the screen (and only the right side).:bomb:

But this is easily the best game I've played this generation. Absolutely fantastic!

i've been loving the heck out of this game. i'm surprised how much talking you have to do in the observatory. finding speed run levels, 1 hp levels, luigi levels, and more require you to talk with others and even pay stars sometimes. it seems very unmario like.

i'd have to say that this is the most hardcore mario out yet.

Yeah so I can't stop playing this mother fucker, it is so damn good. 50 Stars in and I am loving every moment. The only thing I don't like about the game (well I think it is a awesome idea but well (40 or so stars in)
When the game starts to send your Wii messages and then when you shut the wii down it starts glowing blue. It just annoys me after I power the Wii down because then I have to play it to save luigi, lol :lol:, but either way awesome idea

I'm at 111 stars. Only 9 more to go!

I have to say, this game is amazing. I didn't care much for Mario Sunshine and I even felt Mario 64 was overrated. To be honest, I was never a fan of the way Mario controlled in the 3D games with all the trick jumps that are easy to pull off accidentally resulting in falling off a platform, but Mario Galaxy is less about using the trick jumps and more about gravity, exploration, and discovery. And the set pieces are easily among the best I've ever seen in a 3D platformer. The only thing I don't really like is
the purple coin collecting missions that unlock when you beat the game. Some of them are okay, but the lack of checkpointing makes them brutal. They're still pretty fun, but the weak link as far as I'm concerned.)
Qualms aside, this is easily my favorite game this year, which is really saying a lot since Phantom Hourglass and Orange Box came out this year. I can't wait to see what I unlock after getting all the stars.

This game is awesome. I am slowly getting through the levels and collecting stars, but I love it. Super MarWiio GalaxWii is awesome, to the maxxx!
I think...I might be a little motion sick. Could be something I ate, not sure.

Edit: Ho ho. It was something I ate.
:rofl: I'm sure it wasn't amusing for you, DMK, but that hit a funny bone.

Daroga, MC, thanks! They both were very helpful :)

I played a bit more, I beat the entire first dome and I see how things are going. On your star list, when you see a crown next to the name of the level that means you've gotten all the stars for that specific level, right?

Basically I need to stop asking questions and just keep on playing! :lol:

I love this game and all, but there is one thing that really pisses me off. That fucking mailtoad sends a message to my wii every time either 1. Luigi is lost or 2. I save luigi. It gets really annoying to have to go to the wii message place everytime I play the game.

That's awesome.

I beat the game today, getting with 61 stars (including final). Working on getting the 120 stars, have 80 right now. Didn't attempt any galaxies in the Engine Room before I beat the game.

I had an easy time with the final level. Compared to my roommates, I breezed through it. Apparently, I'm really good at controlling Mario when his ass is on fire.

Amazing game. My GOTY.

Nick: [opening the door] Hi, everybody!

BurnsStrell : Ho, mer-Simp son! MAR-I-O, GAL-AXY!
Nick: OK, that was a little strange. Um, tell me: how are you feeling today?

Burns Strell: Homer Mario. Simpson Galaxy, Homer Mario. D'oh Woohoo!...Simpson Galaxy.

I'm about 15 stars in, and wow, what a great game. Got in on the TRU deal as well, still haven't decided what to use the gift card on, though. I'm thinking Zack and Wiki? We'll see. Oh yeah, and SMG looks fucking amazing on my HDTV. Everything is so.... vibrant.

Got up to 53 stars today, and my batteries died. So it looks like I'll be grabbing the last 8 stars tomorrow (I think I'm on pace for 61, anyway).
GENIUS. Anyone here have that magazine?
I got it in the mail yesterday. I'll take a look at it in the morning to see what it says.

I just got all the available stars in the first four galaxies. Huzzah. Loving the game.

All I can say is I love this game. Not really benn a huge fan of Mario games in the past, but this one is phenomenal.

i want to get as many stars as i can before i beat the game. i find it a little lame to beat the game and then still have 60 more stars to get. i've been loving taking my time with each galaxy and getting every star before moving on.
im still debating whether I should beat it as soon as I get to 60 or get 120 and beat it...
Impossible.

You unlock around 15 more stars once you beat the final boss. Then you go back, get those 15 and beat the boss again.

Someone pointed out that the canceled Sonic Saturn game "Sonic X-treme" has a similar concept to Mario Galaxy.

So if you want to see what a Sonic Galaxy might look like, this is probably the closest thing out there.

That game would give me a headache with that fish-eye view. The music was cool though, wonder if it's from the game.

Something I was wondering about stars:
Do the Luigi levels replace the alternate path levels or are they additional?
why was this cancelled? it looks awesome
There was a good article all about it in Edge Magazine a couple of months ago. From what I remember there was an issue with both Sega of Japan and Sega of America working on seperate Sonic games and a load of internal company politics meant that one was the game that ended up getting cancelled.

Back on topic, just started playing Galaxy and it's amazing. I like it a lot better than Sunshine which is the last 3D Mario game I played. The game looks amazing and plays even better.

One minor criticism I would have is on the Save confirmations, why did they put Yes on the right, I've hit No on them by accident a couple of times.

Amazing game though, might actually use my Wii a bit now. :)

They're additional

Well, I'd say I've gotten into the meat of the game by now, and I'm absolutely loving it. I have 17 or 18 stars and have just recently unlocked
comets
.

I can't get enough!
Does anyone else tilt their head when you're running around a planet? Jeez, I'm embarrassed of myself.
Yes! lol I posted about that a few pages back and I still find myself doing it. :D

OK whenever I turn my game off (after saving of course) and come back later - all of my extra lives are gone?

I just want to see if it's something that happens to everyone or am I just losing my mind.

I'll leave with like 20 lives and turn it back on and only have like 5

Just checking

Yes, it's a feature of the game. ;) You can check the manual for the official word from Nintendo.
