(Part I) The Target clearance thread

This thread is for clearance-- not for sale items. Price reductions for clearance seem to happen on Monday, although not every Monday, but could also occur any day of the week depending on your store's price change team. Target often donates its older clearance titles to Goodwill stores, so keep that in mind when you're trying to find items. BigDirty: "Further reduction is possible when a game's price ends with 8 cents. However, when it ends in 4 cents it will NOT drop anymore. If it ends in 9 cents, it's just on sale or on a non-clearance reduction."

When posting deals, please include game, system, price, city and state. For example:
Debbie Does Skywalker, Xbox 360, $4.98
Mesa, AZ Power Road at Superstition Springs

Here is a fairly easy way to check your local Target's pricing-- often price tags will not be correct. Thanks to BigDirty for this:
1) Go to Half.com or a similar site. Search for the game to locate its UPC code number. It's in the gray box underneath the box art graphic.
2) Go to UPC Data ,Milk.com , or UPC Database and enter the code so you can print out the UPC. Go to Target and use the price scanners to scan your printouts.

Thanks to Mephitical for this tool for locating clearance titles, which is located here. Go to Amazon or Target to find the item's ASIN. When you find it, replace "B000O3IS48" in the URL with your item's ASIN. This will take you to a page asking you for your zip code. Type in your zip code and click enter-- this will display a list of local stores and whether or not they have your item in stock. YMMV on it working properly.

The lowest known price will be posted. The item could be higher or lower at your store.

I've had employees price check known clearance items that are behind glass and marked full price many times, and they always check lower than full price. And everytime, the employee is surprised. So don't let them convince you it's the price that's marked on the product/shelf; always have them price check an item you want if other CAGs have found it on clearance.

According to a Target clearance schedule I had read elsewhere, electronics markdowns are indeed scheduled for Mondays (men's clothes, my other Target clearance addiction, are Wednesdays), although some people on these boards have reported Friday or Saturday. Best to simply ask a friendly employee at the store you plan on shopping at. Don't forget, tho, some items can go weeks without a drop.

I finally hit a worthwhile score after months of disappointment. The nearest Target (nearest anything, really) is at least 40 minutes away in any direction, and with gas prices the way they are, I can only afford to visit a Target when I have some other business in the area. The wife had some shopping to do, so we hit up a Target where I had seen some games a few weeks ago that I was hoping would drop. Lo and behold, they did:

Mario Kart: Double Dash! (GC): $7.48
Paper Mario: TYD (GC): $4.98

And last week, on a trip in the opposite direction to pick up our new bathtub, I stopped at a Target and was surprised to find:

Puzzle Quest (DS): $10.48

I've been waiting forever to pounce on Puzzle Quest at a cheap-ass price. That, plus my new 'Cube games, makes me a happy camper :)
 
the target @ spring valley, ny had 10+ copies of TLoZ:TP (gc) for $12.48, that ATV psp game for $14.98, and naruto 2 (gc) for $4.9x. also, a sole copy of republic commando for about $5. oh, and some ps3 games for $41.xx.
 
Heavenly Sword was still $30 at my TARGET. They did have a PINK 360 battery for $2.98, but I passed as I do not have a play/charge kit.

It is their job to assist customers so if you see a game behind the glass that you think dropped tell them to open the glass and have them scan it. If they wont scan it for you tell them you want to buy it and if it doesn't ring up at a price you want to pay then just don't buy it. I have seen plenty of games listed at full price behind glass that scanned for the lower prices.

I also agree that drops are not guaranteed on Mondays, they seem to be happening later in the week in this area.

don't know if its been posted and if so, i'm sorry, but i was in the super target in raleigh, nc today and they have taken alot of their 360, ps3 and ps2 games off of their clearance endcap and moved them back into the glass cabinets w/ the pink stickers and little clearance signs. just wanted to give a heads up to be on the lookout not only on the endcaps nowadays but also in the cabinets.

This week I found a lone copy of Puzzle Quest at that price, too. Initially passed only because I have it on XBLA, but the addict in me forced me to pick it up for some mobile Questin'.
 
One Target had Heavenly Sword for 29 and one for 41. What kind of luck have people had using that $5 coupon on clearance games at Target. For a new PS3 owner patiently waiting for GoW3 Heavenly Sword is looking temping for $25 dollars.
 
Sorry, Cheapest Gamer. They still had their previously-clearaned PS3 games, as well as those for other systems, but nothing new and no price drops this week. I'm a bit surprised too since the only things that moved were the junk DS games. Otherwise, nothing else sold. Maybe next week!

Oh well, even if it's a wash it's still better than the non-clearances at K-Mart and Sears out here.

Write down (or memorize) the DCPI number on the shelf tag OR right there on the clearance sticker. Then walk to the scanner and type it in. This is what I always do for locked up games. I've heard some Targets don't have the scanners with numeric input on them, but I've never seen one that doesn't.

They cant physically put a sticker on it...but the price drop most certainly will happen when they do their clearance each week.

I had a copy of PS3 The Club hidden for 3 weeks from when it went on clearance at $41.98. I scanned the barcode the other day (from my paper of barcodes I bring with me) and what do you know it was $14.98. Went and dug it out of my hiding spot and bought it.

I also had hidden a copy of Heavenly Sword when it went on clearance for $41.98. Scanned that barcode and its down to $29.98 now. Left it there in my spot until it gets to $14.98 and then Ill pick it up.

I also had a copy of Timeshift hidden at another Target when it was clearanced for $29.98 and scanned the barcode the other day and it is now $19.98. Again I left it there to wait for one more drop.

So yes the markdowns DO happen even if they cant physically put the sticker on it.
 
At my store...not much new. Saw timeshift for $19.99 for XB360 and Soldier of Fortune for XB360 for $29.99 and Halo for reg. Xbox marked down to $4.99.

Other than that...hardly anything on clearance. Surprisingly, no PC games either on clearance.
 
Picked up Bleach for 12.48...couldn't believe it was still there.

Saw Madden 08 for DS 20.98 and Turning Point for PC 20.98. Still waiting for MTXvsATV and Heavenly Sword to drop below 29.99.

I used to work in retail, and 9 times outta 10, hiding stuff doesn't work unless you hid it somewhere very clever.

I have never had a problem using the coupon on just a game (over $25). It really depends on the cashier you choose when you pay. Remember a video game is a toy. ;)

Picked up today:

Spyro Wii - $12.48 (before $5 coupon)
Zelda: TP guide Wii - $4.98

Saw a bunch of HS but they're barely at $41.98.
 
Just called my target and they have it for 29! If it's still there on friday, I'm most definetely gonna buy it. I just hope it's still there by then :shock:

true i hid it behind some dvd that i expected them to never sell but i was having second thoughts..i might go back and re-hide it like behind the jigsaw puzzles or like on the bottom of a bin filled with basebals

Picked up Forza 2 for $10. Didn't have it, and they say it's good for both casual and hardcore racers, so I couldn't resist. :D

hah. I recently got the red ring. They didn't even bother to send me an hdmi model 360, and sent me some refurbed 360 instead.
 
Saw that magic DS game, I think its called Master of Illusion?, clearanced at $15 in Fredericksburg, VA. Anybody know what comes in the box, is it just a pack of cards or something? I got the triple pack of games for $15 and the $10 coupon still works.
 
Picked up a Sonic for ps3 for $4.98 - It was marked higher ($13.98?) but when I scanned it showed up at $4.98 - the scan showed up as "2 Day PS3"? don't know what that is? The cashier called the manager over and he let it go through - siad that's what it's in the system, that's what he gets if for :applause:

Did you send in an hdmi model or a standard model? If you sent in a standard model you will get a standard model back. Check out the 360 RRoD FAQ in the 360 section.

The "2 Day PS3" refers to a two day sale last Thanksgiving, when Sonic and a bunch of other titles were discount priced. For whatever reason, all those games still are listed as "2 Day" whatever.

By the way, Sonic is horrible. The good news is that you can take it to GameStop and get almost $12 for it if you trade it with another next-gen game. You don't even have to play it!

I will never forget the time I hid a copy of Feel the magic inside of a 3 ring binder, they didn't find it for MONTHS, and even after that it was still around 10$ even when scanning it.

Yes, and what has that got to do with starting a new thread. Each week usually, on Monday all the new clearance prices are discussed and then as the week progresses individuals discuss their finds and experiences, it's not like every monday we start a new thread for that particular weeks price drops only. This is especially important as most games follow a pattern, and don't suddenly appear at 75% off. Most off us note the first drop 15 or 30%, find those stores with a supply of said game, and then track that game until it reaches the magic clearance price, or until we're afraid that all the copies will dissappear in that week.

You just need to read back to Monday to get a good feel for the weeks activity.

You don't even have to play it![/quote]To expand on the 2 Day thing: the 2 Day games were seperate stock priced at 19.99 (some of those games had already been clearanced out like Fantastic Four and VT3 was being clearanced so if you wanted the clearance price you had to find one that didn't have a UPC sticker covering the original) so 13.98 was 30% off and 4.98 is 75% off. You got the correct price and they just hadn't updated the price sticker.

This was the same problem I had a few months back when I picked up FF for the 360 on clearance. The system had a problem and a manager instead of telling me what's wrong with it just TOOK it away from me. I had to fight it as the same FF 360 game rang up 19.99 and they said they could NOT sell it to me for the cheaper price. Eventually the manager gave up and sold it to me.

Picked up a copy of Crazy Taxi: Fare wars and Parapper the Rapper today at Target, they are on my trade list if anyone is interested.
